The Broncos picked up the pace in Saturday’s walkthrough practice.
The team worked on its hurry-up offense, forcing the players to jog to the line of scrimmage during the the early portion of the session.
Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy was giving constant instruction to his offense, repeating the amount of timeouts left and a particular down-and-distance he wanted his unit to work through.
Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen emphasized communication as he sent various packages onto the field. The energetic coordinator was the only one on the field who got some actual running in as he sprinted to the huddle to give instructions.
The team later settled back into its normal routine as they walked through the playbook and finished the practice with some special teams work, as players participated in a punt-block drill and worked on blocking assignments during kick returns.
Here are some other notes and observations from the session:
Eddie Royal participated in the walkthrough with the first-team offense after sitting out the morning practice.
Brodrick Bunkley — who also missed the morning practice — watched the walkthrough from the sidelines.
Head Coach John Fox stopped by for a brief chat with media and revealed that team captains will be voted on a game-by-game basis as opposed to naming season-long captains.
Matt Willis brought down a nice one-handed catch on a sharply thrown ball.
Brandon Lloyd spent some time working on his batting stance when he was off to the sideline, and Knowshon Moreno had some fun showing fellow running back LenDale White dance moves during a break in the action.
A candidate for best throw of the session came from none other than left tackle Ryan Clady, who took part in a contest with quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn to hit the crossbar from 25 yards out. Orton and Quinn failed to hit the target, but Clady stepped up, drilled the crossbar and made sure to celebrate. Afterwards, he got some congratulatory high-fives from both Orton and Quinn.
The players have the day off tomorrow, and Coach Fox apparently told the players they have the rest of the evening off as well, as there was an audible cheer as they broke the huddle.
The Broncos are back on the practice fields at Dove Valley in a session open to the public Monday afternoon from 2:20 to 5 p.m.

Hey TRB- I’m watching this Chi-Buf game and Okoye & Paea are solid…ugh.
Buffalo has like 7 sacks as well. A pretty good wildcat package. Dareus was less than spectacular and their special teams are nothing special at all.
I am noticing that Brandon Lloyds head is starting to swell, now that being said it is not as larg as large as some others in the league. I would hate to see all of his production go to his head and him lose production because of distractions. But some of the things he is doing sounds similar to one big distraction that was formerly on a Cincy team.
Am I the only one worried about that?

Now that’s a huge change up! Interesting, like no one is really worthy of the honor full time on the 31st team in the league, needing to keep looking for our captains just like our team…
Lloyd has always been like that, ultra confident about himself, all coaches know that about him, heard it before, so no, not really, more concerned about his flip flop this year first backing up Tebow then throwing him under the bus for Orton. Anyhow real happy instead for my boy Willis who keeps shining, stay healthy buddy!
nate jones just let another score happen..
on the nate jones release day.
Howdy Ladies & Gents
Long time no see! Been on a rather long sabbatical of sorts, what with all of the health problems I’ve been dealing with and then having moved to the Phoenix area.
So what’s been going on lately? Bay, help me catch up. BTW, for anyone who doesn’t remember me, I’ve been on here for years but don’t necessarily blog. However, in general, in case you want to know my stand on things, I generally tend to agree with Bay, BFE, sndvl, TRB, rbf and most of the others regulars (Bay more than most). I suppose that’s why I don’t comment all that often; it seems rather redundant.
…brb…dinner bell is a ringin’…LOL!
GO BRONCOS!
T-Bird out
Mikey, bays right lloyd has always been like that. Thats why he bounced from team to team. Wat we as fans of this organization need to woory about is him and kyle tryin to pad their numbers for a big contract, as they are both in the last year of their deal. That is why, bay he decided to throw tebow under the bus. He is a special player, but I witnessed him give up on routes and us at the end of last year. That is my biggest argument for starting tebow, not that hes better than orton, but that he will be here next year, and is a team player.
We could also see alot more audibles to the fade route to lloyd from 1rst and goal at the 1 too. wtf was that!
So Bay are you willing to tip your hand on how well you feel we will do this season?
Sndvl, I see okoye had 2 sacks … sigh, it was sooooooooo clear we should take him, i am mad. a 5 year vet at 24. U don’t get that kinda chance often. Paea also, knew he would be a stud. I don’t think he recorded any stats but the kid plays strong and has a great first step. Also very humble and hard working. We dropped the Ball on Paea but I cannot argue with Rahim and Franklin either, both good picks, but I sure was a Paea faithful. Okoye on the other hand, we coulda gotten for nothing … oh well.
Welcome back T-Bird. sorry to hear health issues. Hope everything is fine. TRB out…
For those wondering (pay attention offensive lineman) the Bills finished with 9 count em 9 QB sacks.
I hope that’s a testament to how bad the Bears O-line is (run for your life Cutler) and not how potent Buffalos pass rush is. Guess we will find out next Saturday!
bay…..totally agree with your 8:55 post man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess my boy is Decker, since I like that kid!!!!!!!
sndvl….the way you slow down a pass rush like that is run the freaking ball like we done the 1st drive Thursday night!
The Bears ain’t got enough sense to know that Cutler needs time to throw the ball,or he will throw lots of ints, they need to draft Olinemen, they suck!
Hey strand you around bro?
THE ABYSS!!!!!
Dogs on leads!!!!!!!!!!
Balls to the Wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, just for the record…and for those who don’t know, my stance on the following players and situations is as follows:
On the QB situation – I think Kyle Orton is the best option we have right now, unfortunately, but I don’t think he’s all that bad either. To state the obvious, if he were more mobile he’d be a much better QB. Sometimes I wonder if only he could be taught how to be mobile, a la Rocky Balboa and a bunch of chickens.(LOL) On the other hand I’m a realist, and we all know that’s not possible (or at least not probable). You simply have to have a certain amount of talent and God-given talent to play in this league. As far as intelligence, that too has to factor in and that’s where he has the advantage over the other two QBs (that and quality experience). Maybe he lost all of those games for us last year because of a lackluster effort, but wins and losses aren’t just one person’s fault. The OL sucked, in part because of the inexperience of Walton and Beadles, injuries, and inconsistencies amongst other reasons.
Tebow doesn’t seem quite as far along as I thought he’d be by this time. I thought John Elway was going to take him under his wing and tutor him off the field…at least that’s what ought to happen. So far I’m rather disappointed in him, but he does have a great upside.
I’m not sure what to think of Brady Quinn. I think he needs either much more exposure (and a legitimate chance at the starting job) or let go to a team where he might actually be of help.
(I’ll continue this novel later)
T-Bird
ILMSDB!!!!!!!!
BFE, What’s up bro? Long time no see!!
Without being negative T-bird it wasn’t possible for Elway to take Tebow under his wing this off season due to the lockout.
Hey 57……glad to see you back..I agree with your post bro..I can’t add much to it right now tho!!!!
Glad to see the great ones coming back………..HAHA!!!!!!!!!!
Elway so far has let me down as far as Tebow goes,Elway is the best QB the NFL has ever seen,no doubt,I have lots of love for the man,but to lead us fans on like Tebow is going to be the next best thing, and then all this B.S. about getting rid of Tebow……WTF?????????????????
Yeah, I know. But I thought someone said last spring that Elway was going to make himself available on the field during training camp or something. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. I do think Tebow has great potential, but who better to learn from than the master?
57….Tebow is the franchise……..but we need to get rid of Orton to pave the way,Orton has the best mechanics right now in practice and preseason, but we all know when it comes down to real game time Orton will choke, just like he did all last year, and in the 1st drive Thursday night!
Good Point
Elway did say he would mentor the QBs…….IDK….WTF…HAPPENED!!!!
Disagreed BFE. 3 points on the board is NOT choking. No points or a turnover is choking.
12 men in the huddle was the key factor in that drive stalling. Yes it would have been nice to punch it in, but then what would you have been able to harp on Orton for afterwards?
Besides? Remind me how Tebow did his 1st drive. And Quinn? How did his 1st drive fare.
I’ll argue the point that we scored on the 1st drive with Orton at the helm. Big 3rd down conversion by your boy Decker BFE! Lol
I’m sure he’s got his hands full right now with his own job, so maybe the mentoring thing will come during the regular season.
Elway is definitely the Master of Puppets……he should come down on the field and mentor Tebow, like he said he would, then Tebow would be the best QB in the NFL….IMO!!!!!!!!
I know Tebow has a lot to learn, and his mechanics need a lot of improvement, but who else better to show him than JE?????????
I say play him or cut him and set him free, like Hillis, and let him be a Superstar somewhere else…….OH YEAH IT’S REAL..IT’S DAMN REAL!!!!!
BFE
SNDVL…….1st and goal………3 points!!!
sndvl……….sorry I’m a Tebow man…….can’t help it,Orton is just mediocre to me,jomho!
As far as the game went, I wasn’t impressed with any of the QBs, but it’s only ONE game…the first preseason game at that. Both Orton and Tebow have done well last year…can’t speak for Quinn…I think he’s getting the raw end of the deal. What I don’t get is why he (or his agent) isn’t looking for other opportunities?
Hey at least we do agree on my boy Decker…he’s the BOMBDIGITY!!!HA!
Personally, I’m leaning towards Orton, but am hoping for Tebow to be the man.
Decker reminds me of Eddy Mac. Great hands and a possession receiver in the clutch.
57…I agree Quinn deserves to be starting somewhere in the NFL,we are just holding him back here in Denver, trade him and let him be a freaking superstar somewhere else…..I don’t think we are very good at evaluating talent, and we haven’t been for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Xanders gotta go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just to hear Decker and Eddie Mac in the same sentence pumps me up!!!
Hey 57…..do you really have a 57 T-Bird…was just wondering, because my dad had one when I was like 7 or 8 years old!!!!!!!!
It was the Bombdigity…my daughters word(bombdigity)..haha!
As far as the RBs go, I like what I see out of McGahee…very explosive and a tough runner when it counts. I’m still waiting to see what KM has to show, and with McGahee in the lineup, I think we just might see his potential come out (KM that is). Lance Ball seems to be showing up this pre-season, so far, but I don’t know if he’ll beat the numbers game. Same goes with LenDale White (although I hope he does make it). We all know Spencer Larsen will be the FB (I’d rather see him at ILB), and that Sylvester won’t make the squad. Jeremiah Johnson looks to be a force, and the other two I don’t see making the team either.
No, wish I did, though.
Yellow is my favorite color, and T-Bird is a nicname I’ve had since I was 10 years old. (I’ll be 50 next month)
I think Tebow should get more game time during the pre-season, let Orton play enough to gel seeing as he will be the starter, then let Tebow get as much as possible of the time left. Quinn had good stats but was playing against and with a lot of players that won’t even be around and the start of regular season. If these guys are serious about trying to develop Tebow, they will allocate him as much play time as possible for experience and evaluation. And God forbid, but IF our season goes like last season, I hope Fox doesn’t have his head too far up his butt to put Tebow in for experience and evaluation when our season is clearly over as far as playoffs, that’s all I ask. Succeed or fail, Tebow needs at least a chance before (if it comes to it) we go after Luck. I believe Elway wanted Luck to come out so we could draft him, yes I know Carolina was before us, but remember we could have traded up with picks, although pricey, I believe Elway would have at least tried his hardest to make it happen. Now it would be sad if it all played out that we end up at the end of the season picking first, get Luck, and he busts, and then Tebow blossoms under someone else.
Moreno and McGahee with Lendale White in there, and JJ….that’s 4 RBs..I think we will carry 5 or 6 RBs…..Moreno is still the RB that I’m lookin for to break out this year,if he don’t break 1000 yds,I will be utterly surprised,I mean totally freaked out, this is his year to prove he is worth a 1st round pick, and me and TRB have the most confidence that he will!!!!!!!!!
Samurai………agree bro!!!!!!sad but I do agree 100%!
Couldn’t have said it better, Beast!
I hope to God we aren’t in the Luck sweepstakes, sure to God we will have more than 4 wins this year,if we only manage to win 4 games this year,IDK if I can stand it or not,Elway in the front office,Fox as HC,and Allen as DC,Doom back,if we can’t win at least 6 or 7 games,I’ll be one disappointed sob!!!!!!!!!
I think we’re wasting Quinn’s talents. I think with more time on the field, he’ll be OK…just wrong place at the wrong time
Quinn seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time ever since he moved into the NFL!!!
Honestly I think in the right system, and with the right coach, that believes in him,I still think he can succeed in the NFL,but just not in Denver, jomho!
Sorry…redundancy at its finest LMAO!!!
Alright it’s past 2:00 AM here, and I’m getting very low on beer,so I guess I’ll sign off, hope you’ll be back on regularly now,I do like blogging with you….us late nighters have to stick together.lol.
