2011 Training Camp – Day 13: P.M. Blog

August 9th, 2011 - 7:44pm by Kenny Legan

ATTENTION: Please note that tomorrow’s (Wednesday’s) practice has been changed from 8:50-11:30 am to 9:30-11:00 am. It will be a non-padded walkthrough session but it remains free and open to the public.

The Broncos came out Tuesday late afternoon for an hour-long walkthrough session as they prepare for their first preseason game Thursday at Dallas.

There wasn’t a whole lot to report on, but there are a couple brief notes.

  • Receiver Eddie Royal, who sat out the morning’s padded practice, was in the lineup working with the first team. On the other hand Brandon Lloyd, who also sat out the morning practice (knee swelling), did not participate. Matt Willis started in his place.
  • The special team unit of long snapper Lonie Paxton, kickers Steven Hauschka and Matt Prater, punter Britton Colquitt, Special Teams Coordinator Jeff Rodgers and Assistant Special Teams Coach Keith Burns had some fun on the other practice field while the first and second teams walked through different sets. The six players and coaches had a contest to see who could hit the crossbar of the goalpost with a throw from varying distances. Hauschka and Rodgers were among the winners.
  • Daniel Fells, Dante Rosario and Dan Gronkowski got all of the action with the first team at tight end.
  • After a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brady Quinn to receiver Eric Decker, running back Knowshon Moreno gave Quinn an excited and elaborate high-five, handshake combo.
  • Even though it was close to 90 degrees, safety Brian Dawkins sported his trademark sweatpants with shorts over the top, long-sleeve shirt under his jersey and fishing hat.

Not liking all these injuries in training camp. Hopefully this is us getting “the bug” out of the way, and hopefully they are minor.

Tebow supporters: his time will come when it comes, and one day he will be making speeches and doing interviews very similar to those seen in this video.

Injuries will be the story of this season all over the league, inevitable, have said that many times.

BTW, happy B-day marshisboss, only way I know, your is one day before mine.

Have been taking a sabbatical of some sort as just talked about in the Coop blog, but will make sure to get fully back into the flow after the Thursday pm game, which will be televised here live in Austin since Dallas is playing, oh yeah…

Then I will definitely know what I’m talking about, no disrespect to all the faithful bloggers who have been given us practice info.

    4. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Good to see ya, Bay. Completely understand your leave of absence. Been thinking about taking one myself. Not that I’ve been blogging with too much intensity. Happy birthday marshisboss since we have been informed by our Federal Bronco of Investigation. Can’t wait for it to be two days from now.

Happy early birthday baylin! Hope you have a good one. Yea I’m talking about the malted beverage!
Anyway, that was a good post on Coops blog. Only thing is, why is everybody ready to watch him start if he himself isn’t ready? All indications point to that fact. So then the conversation moves to trade him so he gets a fair shot elsewhere? I don’t see the logic in that!
On one hand you have a self proclaimed QB guru(more like in way over his head, head coach) and on the other hand you have THE QB GURU of Denver. Who in your opinion is better suited to teach Tebow? I know my answer. So that’s why I have no problem waiting till next year to see if he can do it. (Cause if anybody can get him there…its he who will be named- John Elway).
Like the old adage goes- Good things come to those who wait!

    10. 3rdGeneration says:

Bay, just went on Coops blog to see what you wrote. If you read my post, you said what I was attempting to say in much more detail and articulation. I obviously agree with your stance.

Happy Bday bay and marshiboss.have a drink on me Bronco bros!!!!!!

    13. samurai713 says:

Pat Bowlen, John Elway, and John Fox are gunning for Andrew Luck, they do not care about Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, or Brady Quinn. The Denver Broncos want Andrew Luck as their QB of the future, Elway made that clear by trying to get Luck to come out in last year’s draft. That’s my opinion on all this QB mess anyway, hopefully we won’t lose enough games to have a shot at Luck and Tebow will actually get a legit chance.

    14. 3rdGeneration says:

Or maybe it’s worth it to get Luck…Only time will tell.

    15. lonewolf7 says:

Happy Birthday Bay. Hope your year brings you much success, and happiness. Happy belated Birthday Marshisboss, best wishes for much success and happliness as well. I’m sure if our Broncos have a good year than both of you will atleast experience the happiness part. Go Broncos, can’t wait to see some action Thursday.

    17. Broncos Born & Raised says:

That was a good post Bay. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! There is only one comment I take issue with. I don’t expect you to answer and that’s fine. This is just a little something I want to get out because you are not the only one who feels this way. What I am talking about is the belief that because we are starting Orton this year, it means that the staff doesn’t believe that Tebow is the quarterback of the future.

My rebuttal for all of the professional writers and amateur bloggers who’ve echoed these or similar sentiments:
I’m not going to pretend to know what exactly the organization thinks about Tim’s future. I know they had enough faith in him to put Kyle on the trade block. I know in Fox’s first press conference as Broncos head coach he said something to the extent of it’s funny how things turn out and that there was a good chance they would have drafted him if he was available in the third round (they’re second and third picks were in the third round). But take those couple things out of the equation and it still sounds ludicrous to assume they don’t believe in Tim because they don’t want to start him in his second year in the league.

A lot of sports writers are saying “Tebow might not get his chance in Denver. He needs a coach that really believes in him.” I just haven’t seen anything to suggest they don’t believe in him – as in for the future. As Klis pointed out in one of his mailbags, no one believed in Tim more than McDaniels, and even he looked as if he planned on Tim developing another year when he gave Kyle his 1 year 8.9 million dollar contract extension. So is it really an indictment on Tim’s future as a Bronco because they’re sitting him another year in favor of a veteran who is practicing better than him and has continued to get better every year?

You guys who follow this blog regularly know that I have been in the start Tebow camp since last season. I still find the logic for starting him to be sound. I am also well aware of the numerous situations where Orton has choked when it was time to step up. But as many of you were saying at the end of the season: we can’t pin all of it on Orton. Our defense finished dead last in the league. Our run game was close to last. Red Zone efficiency was atrocious. Fox was hired to have an immediate impact in those areas because that is his bread and butter (at least the first two). On paper it looks a lot like we’re gonna make the jump into the top 16 defenses this year. We can expect that as a team that WANTS to run the ball, we will have more success there as well.

So by starting Orton in a situation where he figures to play from behind a little less often and by a lesser point differential, we win more games and build our team’s confidence. And who knows – if Fox could take an 11-year-old franchise to the Superbowl two years after they finished 1-15, are the playoffs really that far out of the question? Not to mention that if he plays as good or better than last year he will be a hot commodity as a free agent and get that long contract he’s been waiting for. And I don’t think it will be with us.

In Tebow’s first start he broke the franchise record for longest run by a quarterback. In his second start he had his first 4th quarter comeback. With Quinn set to be a free agent as well (correct me if I’m wrong) I don’t see them giving Orton a big contract and extending the controversy, when they could be seeing what how much of that magic Tebow has in him while clocking record ticket sales at invesco. It would be foolish and I would turn on the decision makers the same way everyone turned on McDaniels regime.

But what if we finish last in the league? We’ll get Andrew Luck right? And that’s assuming that Luck remains the number one overall pick they project him to be. As we’ve seen with Locker a lot can change in a year. But to be honest I don’t see us finishing last in the league – no matter who starts. For anyone to wish for that to happen when our last winning season was in 2006 would be severely misguided at best. I for one do not one two consecutive years of finishing at the bottom of the league. Especially after that last one set a franchise record for losses.

Lastly everyone is talking about how much Fox likes veterans at the QB position. To be honest I think he likes good quarterbacks. When he picked up Delhomme, he had been a third stringer for the New Orleans for two seasons. He was a guy that shined in preseason and with every one of his few opportunities to start in the NFL. He may have been a veteran but more importantly he was a “gamer” as Fox likes to say and he was a guy who was never given a real opportunity to start in the NFL. He’ll give Tim his chance just like he did with Delhomme.

In conclusion there is absolutely nothing to suggest the Broncos have given up on Tim’s future in this league where “developing” quarterbacks on the bench is far from uncommon. But there is plenty of factors suggesting Tebow gets his chance – probably next year or sooner. So apprehensive Tebow fans take a deep breath and relax. Dirt bag sports writers/personalities who making a living off of causing trouble, take a hike. Haters, keep doing your thing.

    18. Broncos Born & Raised says:

And for anyone gracious enough to have taken the time to read the book I just posted – I’m still strongly behind starting Tebow (though I’ve come to grips with it’s unlikelihood). Here’s why in case anyone’s forgotten.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQP28rPdhd8

I’m signing off until after Thursday’s game. Go Broncos!

    19. oldsouthstander says:

Samuri: You logic on the Elway wanting to get Luck is totally flawed. If, as you contend, Elway tried to get him to declare for the draft just completed so the Broncos could draft him, he would have been drafted as the #1 selection. Last time I checked, we drafted #2.
The Broncos are sending totally conflicting messages. Many bloggers, and at times the Broncos say that winning this year is important. Starting Orton is the logical way to do that as he obviously is, today, a better QB than Tebow. But they tried to trade Orton. This says that they were willing to sacrifice thios season and let Tebow be the starter. Some say that you should ALWAYS start your best QB. But, only rarely is a 1st round QB the best QB on the team when the season starts. Look at history. DeBerg was better than Elway, but John started several games before he was benched. Obviously, the Broncos have been willing to start a less prepared QB in the past to get him game experience.

I think B. Dawkins is going to play well this season and will feel reborn with a head coach like Fox and DC D. Allen and the style of defense we will be playing. I regret my previous post suggesting we put him out to pasture. His leadership and knowledge has our new young safties totally enamored with him. Probably no one better to learn the position from than B. Dawk. Go Broncos!

    25. royalbroncofan1 says:

Happy Birthday bay and marshisboss !! Hope you both make it a great one!

    26. brian_schneider says:

The DP reported that Dawkins took a significant pay cut to stay with the Broncos. The reconstructed it and he was “scheduled to make $6 million this season with the Broncos, Dawkins instead will play for $2 million — $1.6 million in salary with a $400,000 signing bonus.” Also instead of his contract going through 2013 it will end after this season. He goes on to say he’s “taking it year by year.” Not sure if he’s getting ready to retire or what. Just the other day I was saying how Dawkins himself said he’ll play until he can no longer play at a high level. Can you put a price on leadership….

    27. killerkod says:

imready…………it seemed last season that BDawk lost more than a step and looked horrible a lot of the time. But I agree…I think the fire has been relit and his experience and leadership will be invaluable to our new younger safties. He’s still a definite asset to have on our team.

    28. baylinorcrush says:

First, thanks to all you guys for your best wishes, means a lot and is truly appreciated, 57 big ones! And yeah I will have a good one, multiple good ones in fact since my wife has offered to chauffeur me around to some of the best brew pubs in Austin later on to indulge in my favorite micro brews and she will even fill out my growler with my nektar of choice!!! This one is a keeper, going 16 years, the wife, not the growler, haha.

BB&R, at this point there is no way to really tell which way the organization is going to go with Tebow and I therefore appreciate your point about that he may very well be in the plans, some facts do seem to support that opinion, namely the one that they did just try to trade Orton. But then again, had that happened it could be argued that then a cheaper Delhomme could of come in and started instead of turning the reigns over to Tebow since Fox is seemingly so in tune with veteran QBs.

Those are all endless speculations at this time however and only the Triumvirate would truly know what’s the plan, but that’s the big thing in my mind and football brain; I don’t believe they know.

They don’t have a QB plan of the future in place, they are as confused about it as we all are and I believe that is always the main element of any of my posts about staring Orton over Tebow or Tebow over Orton arguments, I would like to know, know the plan, know what QB we are after long term, which one we are looking to the future with, Tebow, Quinn, Orton, or do we still need to draft one next year? I am looking at the stability that has eluded us at the position since Elway retired and gotten worse since Cutler got traded. At least I would like to have an idea as to what way the organization is leaning to resolve this QQ.

And I don’t believe that’s too much to ask, specially since they have campaigned with us on the transparency thing, which leads me to the simple realisation that they don’t know what to do about it anymore than you and I or anybody does, it’s just let’s play it out as we go and maybe the answer will pop up out of thin air.

I mean two 8 million dollar QBs, one who you just tried trading, one who may never be ready to be a NFL QB, and Quinn, who are we kidding, this about now looks likle the biggest amount of misfits ever assemble on a team for starting QB the way this QQ has been handled. So management simply says let’s take the option that is the least likely to be the worse one, the least risky if you will, and of course it’s Orton, that’s a no brainer, but you just tried to trade the guy!!! so then what, give him a long term contract next year if Tebow doesn’t develop any further behind the twos and threes in practice this season? But will Orton even want to play here long term? So, maybe bring in another vet QB and let Tebow develop yet another year? Or simply draft a QB of the future, not necessarily Luck but this upcoming draft is supposedly QB prospects loaded and trade Tebow and put an end to that part of the QQ?

I mean right now as far as QB I don’t feel I know my Broncos at all, which pains me to say, and since it is what it is, this is what I will be doing this year; concentrate my energy on seeing the D improve, on that I see eye to eye with Elway, without a great D you’ll always be average, and on O I will be looking at the running game to develop into the monster that we used to be so proud of here years ago. QB? Whatever, whoever, I won’t really care until I can see a plan there that makes any sense. Hope whoever it is does well though, good luck on that.

Well, don’t ask me anymore questions because I’m on B-Day mission now, LOL.

    29. royalbroncofan1 says:

Here’s the latest from Woody over at DP.

TRB – looks like Woodys predicting Broncos to carry 4 TE’s.

“Paige: It’s time to do the math on the Denver Broncos’ roster”.

      Now, only 13 remain.

Heading into Thursday’s night first exhibition at Dallas, the number of Shanahan-span veterans has dwindled to one-seventh of the 90 players at Dove Valley — and could decline again when cuts are made Aug. 20 (to 75) and Sept. 3 (53).

Mike Shanahan’s legacy is Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil, Ryan Clady, Eddie Royal, D.J. Williams, Chris Kuper and Spencer Larsen — all starters on the Broncos’ first depth chart released this week — kicker Matt Prater and backups Mario Haggan, Wesley Woodyard, Marcus Thomas, Ryan McBean and Matthew Willis.

      Surprise slices happen every year.

John Fox will prefer to keep all nine of his draft choices — and likely will start three (the team’s triumvirate promised to draft three immediate starters) — Von Miller at outside linebacker, Rahim Moore at free safety and offensive lineman Orlando Franklin at right tackle. Based on training camp performances so far, three others — linebacker Nate Irving and tight ends Julius Thomas and Virgil Green — will play often, though not start. Safety Quinton Carter and linebacker Mike Mohamed look like special-teamers. Defensive end Jeremy Beal is a maybe.

Everybody talks about one of the No. 1s from last year, but not the actual first one. Demaryius Thomas, recovering from still another injury (torn Achilles), will open the season on the physically unable to perform list and won’t be allowed to play for six weeks.

From Josh McDaniels’ two-year era/error, there may be as many as 13 draft selections, as few as 10, retained. Perrish Cox, a starter at times last year, has dropped to third string, along with safety David Bruton. Offensive lineman Eric Olsen is third at right guard, and Richard Quinn must improve and prove himself in the third season. (The Broncos have five true tight end candidates.)

Four of McD’s handpicked players — offensive linemen Zane Beadles and J.D. Walton, running back Knowshon Moreno and defensive end Robert Ayers — will start.

Then there’s Thomas and, of course, The Tebow Thing.

Cassius Vaughn — a rookie undrafted cornerback last year — has looked sharp, is second on the depth chart behind Bailey and might challenge Andre Goodman on the other side.

Quarterback aside (at least for a moment), the most intriguing areas to watch Thursday night are, on offense, running back, tight end and right tackle; and, on defense, safeties, cornerback and — oh, yes — defensive tackle, although the Broncos can be expected to alternate all four positions on the line.

The Broncos will be evaluating tightly the backups at linebacker, in the secondary, on the offensive line and among the running backs, tight ends and wide receivers.

Because of the Broncos’ second slot when players are waived, six new players could be picked up before the season opener. This year the 53-man roster will include 46 (up one) active actives on game days, and there no longer is an “emergency” quarterback rule.

In the opinion of a Broncos camp follower since 1974, these ultimately will be the starters and reserves*:

Quarterback: Kyle Orton starter, Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn.

Running back: Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee alternating starters, Lance Ball, (player to be acquired).

      Fullback: Spencer Larsen.

Wide receiver: Eddie Royal and Brandon Lloyd starting, Eric Decker, David Anderson, Matthew Willis, (Thomas later).

Tight end: Daniel Fells starting, Dan Gronkowski, Julius Thomas, Virgil Green.

Offensive tackle: Ryan Clady and Orlando Franklin starters, Chris Clark.

Guard: Chris Kuper and Zane Beadles starting, Stanley Daniels.

Center: J.D. Walton, (veteran to be acquired for multiple line positions).

Defensive end: Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers starting, Derrick Harvey, Jeremy Beal.

Defensive tackle: Kevin Vickerson and Brodrick Bunkley starting, Ty Warren, Marcus Thomas.

Outside linebacker: D.J. Williams and Von Miller starting, Wesley Woodyard, Mike Mohamed.

Inside linebacker: Joe Mays starting, Mario Haggan, Nate Irving.

Cornerback: Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman starting, Nate Jones, Cassius Vaughn, Perrish Cox, Syd’Quan Thompson.

Safety: Brian Dawkins and Rahim Moore starting, Darcel McBath, Quinton Carter.

      Kicker: Matt Prater.

      Punter: Britton Colquitt.

      Long snapper: Lonie Paxton.

      “subject to change”

    30. killerkod says:

I wanna put Moreno up for discussion……….will he ever be an elite back in this league? He’s done nothing but disappoint me since his arrival. With the fumbles in key spots and the inability to gain that crucial 1-2 yards for a third down conversion or TD was a major reason our O couldn’t score more points. Maybe with the tandum of McGahee used in those short yardage situations, Moreno will be mostly utilized in 1st and 2nd down situations. He has great speed to the outside but can’t run between the tackles worth crap.

    31. sndvl says:

Legwold must have “anticipated” this article

Trust is a big part of the passing game. Quarterbacks and receivers must trust each other.

Kyle Orton is the Broncos’ starting quarterback not just because of his consistent delivery and release point and not just because he has the strongest arm.

In the NFL passing game, accuracy is paramount. But pro quarterbacks also need anticipation, the ability to see plays develop.

College quarterbacks, especially those in the powerhouse programs, play in offenses that have superior athletes from sideline to sideline. So they can stand in the pocket and wait for receivers to get open before delivering the ball.

But that doesn’t work in the NFL, where speed is better on defense and the coverages are more complex. A quarterback has to see the play before it develops. He has to see the coverage and know where the hole will be, usually before the ball is snapped. That’s where the quarterback-receiver trust comes into play.

Orton has the best anticipation among the Denver quarterbacks, especially when he’s working the ball to Brandon Lloyd. Orton and Lloyd were teammates with the Bears too.

“He makes all those great catches,” Orton said. “He’s a great route runner. I’ve worked with Brandon longer than anybody we’ve had and my comfort level with him is great. You don’t have to try to be perfect with any pass with him. You can anticipate all the throws. You can put it in the general area and he can go up and get the ball. It’s just great for a quarterback to throw the ball so early.”

A quarterback is good enough to play in the NFL when he sees more before the snap, anticipates better after it and consistently delivers the ball to the right spot.

That is Orton’s biggest advantage over Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn and the biggest reason he’s where he is on the depth chart as the Broncos approach their preseason opener Thursday night at Dallas.

    32. brian_schneider says:

Everyone is saying how Moreno will benefit from Fox’s system…I guess time will tell. People consider Adrian Peterson an elite RB and he fumbles alot, which is obviously one of his pit falls. It all starts up front and if our offensive line can’t get it together then Moreno is going to look poorly. I think the biggest question is would McGahee get the nod if Moreno is struggling. My initial thought was to use McGahee and pound pound pound, and then Moreno would break off a big gainer. In my opinion Moreno has to show vast improvments this season. He’s been injury prone now the past two seasons so he’s got to produce this season otherwise Fox may be looking for a RB.

    33. sndvl says:

This is Legwolds response to the question if we will be seeing some wild horses this season!

Fox wants the Broncos to have a power running game, with two tailbacks splitting the carries. So don’t look for the Broncos to run a lot of exotic offense.

Tebow, a first-round pick in the 2010 draft, is a long way from being Denver’s starting quarterback. To get him on the field and have him do what he does best, the Broncos need to find a place for him in their short-yardage and red-zone packages.

    34. sndvl says:

Klis informing Moreno (indirectly) of what’s at stake!

Have the Broncos ever had a running back like Willis McGahee? Terrell Davis was 210 pounds. Clinton Portis was 220. Mike Anderson was 230 with fullback speed.

McGahee is a powerfully built 235 who moves like a tailback.

He had two of the most impressive runs in camp during the full-pad practice this morning. Not bad for a guy who is getting $3 million this year ($2 million signing bonus; $1 million salary) on a year-to-year, $9.5 million contract.

    35. brian_schneider says:

I think McGahee could potentially beat Moreno out for the starting job. I’m not entirely sure if Fox thinks like that. Moreno goes down after first contact and dances around too much in the backfield. MaGahee is a downhill runner with power. I think McGahee could be more productive this season than Moreno.

    36. shaztah says:

Hey guys, the one thing that is really bothering me is Orton’s comments about how pleasing the fans is at the bottom of his list. Isn’t it the fans that pay his 8 million dollar salary? I think that the fans need to be a big priority. Yes, you need to win over your team mates and coaches but if you never win over the fans then they wont come see you play and then there will be blacked out games etc. So wake up Orton the fans are your bread and butter.

    37. sndvl says:

This could throw Vegas in a tizzy…

NEW YORK — The NFL is adding game-day testing for performance-enhancing substances — but not recreational drugs — this season under the new collective bargaining agreement.

The league’s senior vice president of law and labor policy, Adolpho Birch, said Tuesday on a conference call with reporters that tests weren’t conducted in the past on days there were games “because of logistical issues involved, much more so than any philosophical issues.”

Birch, who oversees the NFL’s drug program, added that the league had developed a way to test that “is not overly disruptive to the clubs and that respects the game-day process.”

Birch would not say where talks between the NFL and the players’ union stand — or even if they’ve started — about details that need to be worked out before the league can introduce random, year-round blood testing for human growth hormone.

The NFL and union agreed last week that HGH testing can become part of the sport’s drug program under the new, 10-year collective bargaining agreement that was ratified by players Thursday. But first issues such as the appeals process and how tests are taken have to be negotiated.

“The key to this testing is the randomness of it, and that every player is subject to and eligible for testing on a year-round basis, with no notice,” Birch said.

The only limitation on the number of tests is that a player may be tested a maximum of six times each offseason, from February until the start of training camp.

“I would certainly expect players will be tested in an amount that will be meaningful. But more important, the idea is not so much the number of tests performed, but it is the constant threat of testing that provides the key to deterrence under this particular program,” Birch said.

My question is (besides Ricky Williams), who in their right mind would be using “recreational drugs” on gameday? LOL

@shaztah: I got pulled in way too fast on that one as well. I wouldn’t take those comments too seriously, which I know is hard not to. I think Orton was mainly making the point where he wants to win games, and as others on here have said “winning games wins everbody over.”

Orton is the future of the Denver Broncos. After this season we will offer him a decent long term deal and trade Tebow and Quinn will be #2.

@sndvl: You’d be surprised the things you can accomplish jack up on speed or something like that.

    40. sndvl says:

Haha Brian. Bill Romanowski can’t attest to that!!!

I’ll finish baylins usual segment with this quote from John Fox-

“I like to look at games with a little higher evaluation [than practice performances], we all evaluated by what we do in games,” said Fox.
While it doesn’t count for anything on paper, pride is still on the line — even in the preseason.
“I know this is a preseason game but you know, all these guys are competitors — including myself — and we’re there to win.  It’s a lot more fun winning than losing.”

killerkod – The jury is still out on Moreno. Some have already passed down their verdict.
Obviously he has not earned the status of being drafted as the 12th overall selection in 2009. Some say Moreno was not able to succeed in the system McD ran. Others say his work ethic and condiitioning put him behind the eight ball as the beginning of the last two seasons.
Moreno seemed to be most effective catching swing passess out of the backfield. He has not proven himself as a reliable runner.

This year Moreno showed up in the best condition and has now slimmed down to 200 lbs from 215 lbs. Will he be more effective in Coach Fox’s new system. Time will tell.
It’s obviously going to come down to the O-line and how they transition with O-line Coach Megazu. Orlando Franklin is a rook, and it will take him some time to get adusted. Overall a young O-line that can only get better. Kuper the veteran in his 6th year.
Once they’re hitting on all eight cylinders, this should transition to success for Moreno and McGahee.
I’m one fan that’ holding out for Moreno to make an offensive impact for the Broncos. If he can stay healthy – this will be a key.

Great articles from Woody and Legwold. Man you’re old Bay, 57, no wonder you’re so cantankerous. Wonder if you can even remember when you were young like me (54). Enjoy the day, good heath to you. Happy birthday!

Orton may anticipate primary reads fast, but when the primary read is covered, his adjustment to the second and even third is lacking. I like Orton, not sure if people remember that. There was a high demand for a veteran QB this year around the league and he still remains in Denver after being put on the block. I like Orton but I am absolutely a fan boy of Tebow (my friends call it a man crush). It will not demolish Tebow’s career to stay at QB2 for another season. His future with the Broncos seems to definitely be tied up in the possibility of drafting Luck next year. Keep in mind, absolutely anything can happen between now and then. Orton can shine and make it believable that he is our future QB under the new regime. He can stink it up and Tebow can step in and shine, etc. Or they can both fail. Where we go from here (today) is prepare for Thursday. Friday we move on and prepare for the next game. Too soon to say how anything will go down right now.

Thanks for the vid BBR, I am quick to forget the story of Steve Young and how fun it was to watch him play, even though I despise the 49ers.

stevecan2. That’s why pre-snap reads are so important. Orton is not a good check down QB but he makes good…not great but good presnap reads. Cutler was even worse at it imo. I’m more concerned about the O-line personally. Especially if we want to run the ball. Those guys were way less impressive in the run game last year.

I love this quote by Ron Rivera.

“We want to see how each guy looks with each offensive line,” Rivera said.”It would be unfair to have one guy with the ones, one guy with the twos, one guy play against a one defense and the other guy play against a two defense and say one looks better. So we’re most certainly going to mix and match, and we have to so it’s a fair competition.”
