2010 Pro Bowl: Day Four

January 30th, 2010 - 12:15pm by Gray Caldwell

There were plenty of new touches to the final day of practice for Sunday’s Pro Bowl. For one, the venue changed — both teams practiced at Lockhart Stadium in North Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in front of a healthy crowd. Adding to the excitement were cheerleaders from across the NFL, including the Broncos’ Pro Bowl representative, Lindsey Dudley.

Even with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in attendance signing autographs and snapping pictures with fans, it was easily the most relaxed practice of the week — at one point, the Jacksonville Jaguars mascot tapped Champ Bailey on the shoulder and subbed into coverage on Chad Ochocinco. But mascots entered the practice at their own risk, as several ended up getting tackled by fun-loving players.

It was a walk-through practice, but that didn’t stop the PA announcer from hyping up the crowd throughout the session, assuring them that these were plays they would see again come Sunday. And fans were certainly excited to see the stars up close, as plenty brought helmets, jerseys and photos for autographs, constantly shouting players’ names throughout the session.

Tomorrow the teams take the field at Sun Life Stadium in Miami for the 2010 Pro Bowl. For now, check out more pictures from practice below.

In addition, Chris Hall of Broncos TV put together a mic’d up piece with Brian Dawkins, which you can watch here. Later this afternoon, we will post a story and video on Ryan Clady’s experience at the first Pro Bowl of his career.

  3. marshisboss says:

can anyone give me an update on the senior bowl

  4. baylinorcrush says:

marshisboss, I’m watching it right now I’ll write my thoughts about it later on.

So, I don’t mean to bring the Marshall subject back up, but when Marshall was asked at the pro bowl why he is not talking, he said he is done talking, he has had enough publicity as is.

My take is is he not talking as a Denver Bronco any longer. The other 4 are talking, my take is they will all be Broncos

    What’s your take?

  5. Peytonoverthehillis22 says:

My take is I HOPE that Marshall will continue to dawn the ORANGE and BLUE!!!!!!!!!

  6. MarshMelo15 says:

My take is, I HOPE for all that is good in this world that the BEAST BRANDON MARSHALL will continue to dawn Orange and Blue!!!!!!!!

  10. Invesco_Love says:

    sorry for posting that twice…

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Thanks for the collector item, LOL.

  12. Invesco_Love says:

    hahahaha, ya no problem lol
it make me sad that he will most likely leave

  13. TheRoyalBeast says:

Ya, makes me sad to Invesco. But it is what it is.

    Baylin,

I think you may be reaching…but this wouldnt be the first we have disagreed expecially on Brandon. I thought they were asking him about his whole contract issue when he said that (which i would consider a smart move) but i might be mistaking. u may be right, cuz we have heard basically everyone else talk.

But in all fairness, Dawk has talked cuz he is a great man period and he is playing in AFC for first Pro Bowl…Champ and Doom talked because well, the DC update affected them so they are the ones being talked to. Clady and Marshall aint talked cuz they on offense. Maybe the Media isnt interested in Marshall since he is not talking about contract issues period or since he doesnt give them the tools for the flame they are trying to fan…who knows? I sure dont…but whatever will happen will happen.

As far as Tebow, not watching the senior bowl but the more they criticize him and the more he possibly slides in the draft the more I want him. We need to address more important things with firt pick(s) but if he is around in 2nd round, im cool with taking him. his intangibles are similar to Dawkins…and his Mechanics can be improved with a enough time and a strong work ethic he has. Just my thoughts…

  14. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Invesco love

Just saw vid. nice vid. good quality as usual. music was nice and fitting (for THE BEAST all you gotta do is throw it up lol)…I think his speed is underated…The man moves when he is in that bubble screen lol

gonna miss him since just about everyone is saying he is gone. But McD has thrown curveballs before so who knows. and at the end of the day he wants to win. If Marshall got on board or faked getting on board all year (depending on who u talk to)…Pay him and he will comepletely be on board i beleive.

BUT GREAT VID MAN. DOOM 1 – 17…let the bodies hit the floor (cliche song for football vid) but fitting. Not unless u can find a doomsday song or somehting…Hope u enjoy creating them as much as we enjoy watching them.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

As promissed, this is what I got out of the senior bowl:

I was really disappointed with Iupati’s performance after all the hype some bloggers gave him here, right dude? LOL. His blocking technique is real bad, he doesn’t push with his arms, he just grabs with his hands, got penalized for holding, someone put a spin move on him on his way to a sack and he actually got pushed around by smaller guys, I was not impressed at all, no way I would want to spend a first pick on him.

Brandon Graham was an absolute motoring machine hustling all over the field as a DE all game long, by far the best defensive performance out there, he would be a perfect compliment to Doom on the other side in the 3-4. He is supposed to go late first or early second, I would definitely take him in the second, and if we make a trade to get another first, get him, the guy is amazing.

Dan Williams, DT from Tennessee, played extremely well and if we don’t get a NT in FA, I would say is the guy we should take with our first pick. Big enough to occupy the middle yet can hustle to the ball on every play, I buy.

Lamarr Houston also played well as a DT, he is very quick for a large man and is from Colorado Springs, wouldn’t mind getting him in the third maybe if he is there, probably won’t.

Jared Odrick, DT also is worthy of consideration, meaning I see plenty of help in this draft for us in the D line which is good news.

J.D. Walton at center held his own real well and is the 300 pounder we could use to beef up our line, but only worth a fourth or fifth round pick.

For the guys who keep telling us to draft Tebow, I hope you watched the game because even so you say he can do it all, today he could almost do none. Top that off with the fact he is a lefty, PLEASE, don’t draft him. I don’t think we need to draft a QB anyway as I think Brandstater is the guy in the future for us, but is you want to draft one, go with Dan LeFevour, he can throw it long and accurately, can run with real speed and is elusive, the man put on a display today with 42 yd pass, 32 yd TD pass and a few others, he was electric.

Terence Cody had good moments and bad, you can definitely tell that stamina will be a real issue for him, I don’t see us taking him in the first, too much liability for such high pick.

LeGarrete Blount from Oregon is a 245 lbs power runner who had a good game with a TD and a couple powerful runs up the middle, unfortunately he has temper issues as I understand it, but would definitely fit our new power running game, I would consider him mid rounds if we can’t get Toby Gerhart.

Marty Gilyard was by far the best receiver with over 100 yards, but is pretty small and seems very full of himself, just like other WR’s I guess.

    Btw, the North won 31-13.

  16. TheRoyalBeast says:

thx for the info baylin. answer my question about tebow…but if McD and staff seroiusly think they can mold him to be better than JUST a moral player. Then I say go for it in 2nd. Def not first like i stated many times

Thing about Brandstater is…I wanted us to get him ready last year give him more shots. Always thought he showed promise and woulda put him in over Orton ( especially in hindsight since we ended 8-8 anyway0 but Orton did well and would love to have him back. But I digress, the thing about state ris…he came in the league at like 24, probably 25 now…by the time he gets a shot he will be like 27…Just not the ideal situation…but i hear ya

  17. baylinorcrush says:

I wish you would of seen the game, you wouldn’t even want to pick him, wait to read all the articles about how he is going to drop in the draft, I’m sure of it, it was just plain ugly.

  18. MarshMelo15 says:

TRB…… Kurt Warner didnt get a shot til he was 28, and he is a HOF…..So there is still hope for Brandstater…

  19. baylinorcrush says:

He has an awful slow, long arc dropping his arm all the way to his hip type of delivery that makes it easy for the D to either strip him of the ball or recover quickly on coverage to break the pass or intercept. And his strength in college, running, will be non existent as it showed today because he doesn’t have great speed or quickness so the D’s will be all over it like today, the LB’s in the NFL will eat that up. The guy is a great guy and works hard, but I just don’t see him have enough talent for this league. I was leaning that way of thinking before seeing him in a pro type of game situation like the senior bowl, now that I have seen it, I’m that much more convinced of it. Ok, I’m done talking about Tebow.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Well said, and Brandstater is only 25.

  21. stevecan2 says:

I guess we have not learned from the past in regards for replacing the starting quarterback in middle of the season. Very few can accomplish that with any amount of success. I don’t think Tebow will be in Denver anytime soon. I am pretty confident that we have our quarterback and future qb in Orton and Brandstater. Orton was not the reason we were 8-8 on the year. It would be a different tone if that were the case. One thing I do have to renege on and that is my animosity towards BMarsh. It is nothing he has said, because honestly when he opens his mouth, I just want to ignore everything that comes out. As a person I can’t stand him, but on the field is another story. So I must not allow personal conflicts with someones character and the fact he is well known for beating on women over shadow the fact that he is an asset to this team.

  22. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Stevecan

First of all I wasnt sayign 8-8 was ortons fault…I said IN HINDSIGHT if i knew it was gonna be an 8-8 season (an average season) Brandstater would definitely have been the choice. That is to say the only reason Orton was in there was to give us the best shot at playoffs but since we fell apart as a team. might as well have given Brandstater reps…I am blaming no one individual

Second of all, Alleged woman beater…and only one woman. All his “domestic abuse” stems from her. I don’t know if its true but he was found innocent, and the girl had tried to blackmail him many times (this is fact, i am not condoning his alleged behavior)…Just like with things behind closed doors in the NFL u will never know what truly happened. He is with a new woman now…his fiance and he has calmed down. Holds nothing against McD and credits alot of his growing up to him. I will not say he is the picture of morality but as long as he is making strides (he is yet to backslide) I will applaud him for that. Becoming legal guardian to his nephew i believe…I applaud him. When his nephews grades started to slip, he sent him back to his rough neighborhood to rethink things over, the kid straightened up and has been doing well in school since. If no one believes in rehabilitation might as well forgo jails and just execute every criminal….

Once again i will apologize for rehashing about Marshall….I really try not to talk about it and just see what happens and go on with my life…cuz at the end of the day whether he is a bronco or not, the sun will rise and set the next day…..

    GO BRONCOS TWENTY-TEN

  23. baylinorcrush says:

The thing that probably gets me about Marshall is how many times he is referred to as the beast. I mean if there is one position on the field where you don’t need a beast would be the WR position, right? It’s a skill position for gosh sake. Have you ever heard of anyone calling Jerry Rice a beast, or Marvin Harrison or Fitzgerald or Holmes or Boldin or Andre Johnson? I mean the beast attribute seems completely at odd with the position. On the other hand we need a beast at the NT position, Dawkins is kind of a beast, Doom is also one. Point is the beast is something to me that describes the anger of the D, not the bravado of the O, no matter how powerful one might be, it sounds out of whack. Just thought I’d get it off my chest. I wonder if Marshall picked the moniker for himself. Anyone know?

  24. Cali_BroncosFan says:

if we cant get McClain what do you guys think about getting Brandon Spikes with our 1st round pick?

  25. MarshMelo15 says:

Baylin…..I however think the BEAST is a perfect nickname for Marshall. I mean come on the guy is all over the field, he won’t go down easy (you have to really hit him hard) and he is great after the catch. Just think back to the 51 yard TD reception against the Cowgirls earlier this year, weaving in and out of the D. And he plays with such a high emotion and intensity each and every week……He is most defineatly a BEAST…..IMO

  26. MarshMelo15 says:

Brandon Spikes????? The Eye Gouger??????……sounds good to me cuz we can then blind all of our opponents and go undefeated..lol

  27. sndvl says:

Invesco- Good video. Liked the ending too. I say we trade McD.

Senior Bowl thoughts- Iatupi definitely disappointing. Blount looks tough. Though, he should have been suspended the entire year for “sucker punching” that kid from Boise State. Glad he was able to turn it around for himself. Tebow looked-eh, horrible. But one performance shouldnt negate his entire body of work. Graham from Michigan certainly helped his cause. But he was pretty quiet for most of the year. Not all his fault, since he was constantly facing double and triple teams! Which makes him even that much more interesting! And the more I see from the Alabama TE, Peek, the more I like. He looks like he could excel in our system. just my thoughts…

So, It sounds like Dumervil and Dawkins are content with the Martindale hire. I dont know if it was just PR bull, but they talked as if they will be here next season and in that regard, I am happy! Dawkins especially.
Jarvis Moss. What potential. I read the previous posts and I really wish he could find the “IT” factor. I wonder if the right veteran came along, he would realize his full potential. And be a defensive playmaker for us!
    GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Orange_Crusher says:

    bay,

I agree with everything you said about Tebone. He stunk it up and looked bad and slow. He is a two year project for any NFL coach that takes him. If he slides down to the fourth round then maybe we could get him to replace Simms at the third QB position while Brandstater and Rtn fight it out for first. I did like Lefevour today a lot.

I think you are right that we are set with the QB’s we got and it would shock me if McD went after one in the draft at all. My vote is for Brandstater to get his shot this year.

  29. MarshMelo15 says:

And one more thought…..I say HECK NO TEBOW!!!!!!
I have never liked the guy, he is not a good QB, never was. The only thing that I like about him is intensity and his desire to win. As far as his skill level is concerend it is mediocere at best. And lets face it desire to win may have been enough to get the job done in the collegete level but not in the pros…

    HECK NO TEBOW!!!!!!!!!

  30. TheRoyalBeast says:

Think we are over thinking the beast a bit. it has become synonymous with an unstopable force of strength, speed and intensity….which Brandon Marshall is. many people are called beast at their position but he is known as THE Beast…emphasis on the “The”…a generic name but very fitting…proof…here u go

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said,

“Brandon Marshall is a defensive lineman playing wide receiver. He wants to inflict punishment on you. He wants you to try to tackle him so he can shove you off of him and get more yards.”

Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said,

Marshall is “the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one.”

ergo…the beast…plus it makes sense when u scream “FEED THE BEAST” (feed him the ball) :-D lol

  31. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Baylin,

one of the quotes is from this article…”Things that NFL players fear”

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?page=hotread7/seifert

    some more accolades…

“If you can’t hit him in stride, something’s wrong with you,” Peyton Manning said. “He’s a big ol’ target. He’s special.”

“You always hear about Anquan (Boldin) being a tough guy to bring down,” said Asomugha, who was widely considered to have supplanted the Broncos’ injured Champ Bailey as the NFL’s top cornerback this season. “But in my mind, I think Brandon’s the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one.”

“The thing I noticed about him is he tries to make the big play, every play,” Asomugha said. “It has to be a big play. And that’s a competitor. It makes sense. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Just re-inforcing why he is a beast Baylin lol

    ill stop now :-(

  32. TheRoyalBeast says:

ps: Darn u all, some of yall got me excited about tebow then took it away from me. I watch NFL religiously but not college so i rely on u all lol

  33. Invesco_Love says:

    i say no tebow!!!
and if we cant get mcclain, haden, or dan williams trade up or trade out of the 1st round completly

  34. sndvl says:

TRB, I am in total agreement with you about THE Beast. Emphasis on “THE”!!! lmfao
For the life of me, I cant think of any legitimate reason why McD would ever consider trading him. No one can sit here and tell me Reeves would have traded Elway. He was the one run out of town after he drafted Maddox. There is no scenario where getting rid of spidermarsh will make our offense any better. Not Boldin, Not Moss, Not AJ. Maybe Fitz. Maybe Megatron. But you can bet your bottom dollar neither the Cards or Lions will let them go. It is really funny that McD’s supporters are OK with the prospect of letting THE Beast go!?!
my cousin told me a joke and I had to share- “Here in Denver, 50% of the fans wants McD fired. The other 50% are fans of other teams!”

  35. sndvl says:

Love the link TRB. Gonna send it out to some family! Though, I would have called it Marshall Law, instead of getting Marshalled!!!!!

  36. stevecan2 says:

I second the idea of not calling a wide out a beast. Well put though in rebuttal. When first of all and second of all and so on are put into a comment, you know someone may have taken something a little too personally. Wasn’t my intention but seeing as how almost everyone including myself seems to get overworked on these boards, I am just going to step away for the off season. Being polite about emotionally driven comments is a task I do not want to endure with other fans any longer. So I will do the easy thing and let the clique that has developed continue in a happy little blog world and continue on elsewhere. Lastly Theroyalbeast, charges almost never get dropped by the accuser when someone is innocent. And most blackmail occurs after a payoff. Food for thought.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Sorry to hear that stevecan2, you’re uncanny maturity for a young man will be missed here, at least for me, seeing forward to hearing your comments when you come back.

  38. curtisblow420 says:

I think u all su-k go bronco’s afc ! If brandon marshall don;t want to say anything then so be it I hope he is a bronco next year but if nt we will just get some one better ! He could be part of the reason we didnt make playoffs anyway!

  39. qmcsdugan says:

Good Move! I think the Probowl being played before the Super Bowl is a very good idea, (dispite the missing players from the two NFL Champions) I hope it will work well for the NFL.

  40. mikew007 says:

Marshall is gone. I liked him but honestly, the commissioner is going to suspend him for a season one of these days. He’s a me first guy and for that….I’m cool with him being gone as long as we get a first round pick for him.

  41. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

    baylin,

When i was watching the Senior Bowl, I get seeing this guy from Michigan all over the field. I finally figured out that it was Brandon Graham. The only thing about him is his arm length but the announcers were comparing him to Elvis Dumervil. I say lets get him. Too bad Gerhart wasnt there to see (thats because he isnt a Senior) and Lafell wasnt either.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, #55, agreed, he was a one man wrecking crew, has more intensity and drive than anyone I have seen in a while at the collegiate level, more than makes up for his short arms and it would even things out with Doom who has the longest arms of them all, LOL. Doom does it with his arms, that Graham guy did it with speed, he got around guys so fast on his way to the QB, it was quite a show, I’m not sure of his final stats but he had them all and it gave him the MVP for the game. His worth is going to take a serious shot in the arm as far as the draft is concerned, I think he now will probably go in the second half of the first round, in order to get him we need to trade someone for a first, guess you know who, to get like Seattle’s 14th or anything up to mid twenties would give us a shot at him, because I don’t think we can take him with the 10th or 11th, it would be too high for him and depending on who we get in FA, McClain or Dan Williams would be better picks there. Those three are the first three players I would concentrate on, McClain for ILB to stop the run, Dan Williams for a NT and Graham to use on the other side of Doom giving us the double whammo at pressuring the QB, the fourth I’d go after is Gerhart. After seeing what’s out there on the O line for us in college, specially since I was so disappointed in Iaputi yesterday, I think our strategy would be to address the O line in FA, as there is so much good prospects in the draft at D line.

    To resume my thoughts:
Rebuild O line, guards and center mainly in FA.
Rebuild D line mainly in the draft with mid and late picks.
If you can’t get the NT in FA, get Williams for nose in the draft, Graham as DE/OLB and Gerhart for the power running game with the first three or four picks.
If you can get a NT in FA, then get Mc Clain for ILB and Graham and Gerhart.

Of course I am just wishing, one can always dream…..

  43. TheRoyalBeast says:

I flipped in long enough to see #55 and a DT called houston I believe. They did well in the few minutes i watched

    Stevecan2,

I apologize if i am the sole reason for your departure. Was not my intention. And wasnt taking what u said personally. As far as the whole wife-beater…I will reitterate in saying “I don’t know, and never will”. All i know, is all that is put forth. And the blackmail was an email saying (and they showed the email), “I will not accuse u of assault if u pay me half a mil”. He is not a saint and I am by no means saying that. Hope u reconsider blogging here because a blog is only as good as the many different opinions being poured into it

  44. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, Lamarr Houston, he played pretty well, very quick, he is from Colorado Springs.
