I’ve noticed on the message boards and in the comments that many of you are wondering if the Broncos will don their “throwback” jerseys any time this season — the 50th anniversary of the team and the AFL.
Well, it has just been formally announced from the NFL Annual Meeting in Dana Point, Calif., that the original eight AFL teams — the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs (then the Dallas Texans), New England Patriots (then the Boston Patriots), New York Jets (then the Titans of New York), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans (then the Houston Oilers) — will play head-to-head in one home and one away “Legacy Games” to honor the anniversary.
As a part of those games, the teams will each wear their original jerseys. That means the Broncos will don their 1960 jersey — a brown and yellow uniform with a brown helmet — twice. You can see Head Coach Josh McDaniels holding up an example of the jersey at the top of this blog.
As far as the other AFC West teams go, the Chiefs will don their 1962 duds: a red and white uniform with a red helmet featuring an outline of the state of Texas. The Chargers will sport their 1963 jersey: white pants with a yellow bolt down the legs. The Raiders will wear their 1963 threads as well: a white (away) jersey that features silver numbers outlined in black, and a silver helmet with the original Raiders logo.
COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS ASSIGNED
The league announced yesterday that 32 compensatory draft picks would be handed out to 16 teams for the 2009 NFL Draft.
Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.
The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four.
Essentially that means if a team lost more free agents than it signed, or it lost free agents that had more value then the ones they brought in, they will receive compensatory draft picks.
The Broncos did not receive any this season. The two teams with the most picks are Cincinnatti and Tennessee. The Bengals only signed one free agent and lost five — the Titans signed one and lost six.

i would rather have them go with the original orange and blue uni’s but i think this will still be interesting to watch. i can’t wait to see the vertical striped socks and the mustard yellow jerseys. i hope i’ll be able to see cutler in those jerseys though because i want to get a cutler one. if not hopefully they will have a peyton hillis or eddie royal one

To be honest with you, I have probably been Coach McD’s harshest critic… up to this point.
I know I’ve been venting like an overheated engine, but for those of you who haven’t figured me out yet (some have), it is always meant to stir up conversation, it’s always with passion for this team (The team, our team, what we’re all constantly on this blog for), and usually with a sense of ironic humor. SHARP-IDIER84, you even accused me of not being a “real Bronco fan” a couple days ago. This, to be honest with you, stung a little bit. I don’t honestly ever want to watch Cutler play for Gary Kubiak… unless at some point Kub is coaching in Denver, that is.
So, anyway, while I’m not completely sold (yet), I do believe Coach went a long way today in making good by throwing some respect Jay’s way, and doing it publicly. At the same time, it seems like he was commanding respect for himself. This has got to be a fine line to walk for a young coach. I am not without understanding of his situation. This was a very good job today, fielding questions from the media, in my opionion.
I very happy to hear that the two have spoken in the past couple of days. Did you all pick up on that? This could be very, very good news.

Remember McDenver said he did not talk to Belichek about the trade or about Cassell, now if he was trying to get Cassell or trade Cutler wouldn’t that have gotten to Belichek, let alone their GM? Which both said they received no calls from Denver FIRST! Also remember that he said a 3rd party was trying to broker the deal SECOND! Finally remember that he doesn’t think its an ego, THIRD!
Back to what I said, I think bus the little scum wants more money, and all this is a way for him to get more, by getting Cutler more!
I like Cutler a lot, Coach has impressed me a lot, especially with how he has rallied other players on out team! I’m looking forward to next year, as for watching the videos and reading stuff, it is hard not to. But I too think I won’t much anymore, I see this getting resolved soon, just got to get a chance for the facts to be laid down to Cutler and Cutler to say whats really on his mind. We know he still wants to throw to Stoke, Sheff, and the tandom “ROYALMARSHALLS!”

well they are not the best looking for sure but interesting in an old school way. One good thing is its still our broncos in those uni’s and I’ll cheer them just the same.

The uniforms are better then the other wons they had for throw backs in the late ninty’s. The orange and white, with the hidious bronco on the helmet. These will be o.k. for a couple of games.
Love the throwbacks! They already did the Orange & Blue from the mid-60s, so I’m glad they’re going back to the original uni this time. They better include the vertically striped socks, or it won’t be complete. Speaking of unis, how about the alternate orange jersey they wore for a couple of games last year becoming the regular jersey, and make the blue jersey the alternate… just a thought.
Not sure if we’re ready for the orange jersey as our regular (yea… idk what that means)… but I would like to see it for a lot more games than usual… like 4 times a year, wear the orange…
whitebronco#1 While the mustard yellow and brown is not too pleasing to the eye, it is part of our football heritage. We must embrace it as fans….good, bad or……ugly. Saw a guy wearing the whole ’60s uniform, including the vertically striped socks, at one of the games last year and he was a big hit. I think it’s kinda funny how McD is holding a Cutler jersey in the photo too.

Personally, I think that the Broncos are gonna play just as good with the throw back jerseys as they will in their regular jerseys. I like what I’m seeing with the new acquisitions and the new coaching staff.
And if the brown and mustard uniforms are a part of the Broncos past then bring it on and show why the Broncos are the best organization in Pro football.
