Prior to Wednesday afternoon’s practice session, Head Coach Josh McDaniels announced the team’s 2009 captains.
The club’s seven captains are: cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Brian Dawkins, tight end Daniel Graham, inside linebacker Mario Haggan, quarterback Kyle Orton, center Casey Wiegmann and inside linebacker Wesley Woodyard.
This season marks Bailey’s third as a team captain, while it is the second time Graham has taken on the leadership role.
All seven team captains were voted on by their teammates.
Stay tuned to DenverBroncos.com for more information on Wednesday morning’s press conferences.

My team Captains would have been:
1.) Dynamicdave (What can I say, ha, ha).
2.) 07elway (Women of the world, take note of this young lady).
3.) baylinorcrush (We “almost” think alike).
4.) LBWilson56 (Defense. Ive met him, he’s a BIG guy). (Not fat)/
5.) dlmyers (I’ve met him. Very analytical when it comes to stats. Smart man).
6.) TheRoyalBeast (Loyal and firm/stubborn, like me).
7.) Dr. Chris (Young, but wise for his age).
Seeing as Orton was named a captain, it will shut up all the critics of the Broncos who were picking on Orton’s leadership ability. I’d say that, generally, if you’re voted team captain, you’re a capable leader. You know, just the whole definition of “captain” and everything…
I’m very annoyed right now because I can’t find the Broncos game aired on TV this Sunday. The Broncos are a popular NFL team here in Kalispell, Montana, but there are only 2-3 channels that broadcast football. I’ve got Dish Network, in case anyone can help.
what happen to D.J. as one of the captains
DDave, high praise to be your third pick, I’m humbled, very high praise indeed.
We may not “always” think alike, however when we don’t I think that’s when some of the more interesting exchanges take place. To the point, maintaining our integrity and always civil is the way we go and the way to go. Best of luck with your “job” at fanhuddle. I’ll check up on you there probably weekly, just so I can argue about how we need to go at it to win more games. Go Broncos… forever!
If Marshall is ready to start playing serious football again, why not let him back in the huddle? He’s a dangerous offensive weapon just being out ON the field. While they’re expecting “dink, dunk”, we’ll drop the bomb and they’ll be “sank, sunk”! If nothing else, it will make the opponents account for him downfield and it will open up our running game. And we’ve GOT game!
Go Broncos!
haha, that’s awesome Dave!! Me… a team captain, eh? I’d be honored! But seriously, I’m #2 behind you? You got to be kidding me… yeah, I’m feelin the love. Sure think highly of yourself don’t ya! LOL JK JK Can I be ornery or what? haha
What up what uppppppppppppppppppppppppp?!! Yeah it’s getting closer and closer till da Broncos go bucking all through Cinci! O yeah…. What up my Broncos Fam!!
Hey, if I could go all the way up to 50 Captains, easily. A lot of great people on this site. I have seen no other site that welcomes 1st time posters. I have never seen a site where the 1st time poster begins by saying how awesome the bloggers are, here, at this site. It speaks volumes for the Bronco Nation. Raider Nation bloggers can’t be like this. Heck, they dislike their team almost as much as we do. They fight and argue amongst each other more then two wolves fighting over the carcass of a dead pigeon. You guys make the Bronco fan base, proud!
Oh, at the end of the season, I’ll have a drawing for 1 Broncos jersey of your choice/color and size (if the company I buy from has it available). This will be held only at the Fan Huddle site. The contest will consist of who is closest to the total points scored by the O in the year. In case of a tie, it will be determined by total points allowed by the D. I don’t know when our site will be ready, but it will still be for the TOTAL season, so everyone might have a head start. The choices must be in before the Dallas Cowboys game, Oct. 4, 2009. Only one entry per person. I’ll keep you posted and mention the contest with each of my articles. (I’m sure most of you will wait till the last moment so you can get an idea of how Denver is playing). This gives everybody a fair chance at guessing how the Broncos will end up. Good luck!
whadup all. i can’t wait for the season to start either. i hope/look forward to our boys shocking the world!!!
ken in vegas, where in Vegas do you go to, to watch the games?
DDave, when is the fanhuddle accessible??? I must be going to the wrong site.
Soo stoked BMarsh has his head on for now… KO is gonna be ready to KO Cincy with a sweet black glove… Woodyard is a Captain with a CAPITAL C… Humble Eddie will be there soon… Darius Dubya is still here… Got some old men on the D that are gonna lead the way for our young guns… JMac has some goodness up his sleeve… Can’t wait to see our Broncs kick some ace and take some names Sunday A.M….
The pass from Palmer is I N C O M P L E T E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m disappointed, Dynamic Dave, you often say I have good comments but I’m not good enough to be a captain. Still, I agree with the Broncos’ choices. Orton is the best and he’ll prove to be a leader both on and off the field. More success awaits us than failure. GO BRONCOS!!!
well put Dynamicdave, but I think it’s that way with all broncos fans a family of trust and dignity.Anyways about the captains I think woodyard was a good choice he works really hard.can’t wait to see dawkins on the field.does anyone know the knowshan situation why hasn’t he been playing is mcdaniels pulling a shanahan and trying to suprise everyone
DDave…Thanks bro..very honored to make your captains list!!Lol..Its gonna be a good year….
Fan Huddle has some tech problems, so the opening date has been pushed ahead. Not sure when, but I will let you all know.
DD I am going to make a negative coment, I guess since it is Thursday, most football teams make the QB a captain (the starter) it is almost a given. It is not a direct reflection of leadership ability. Anyway, here is my new slogan, we have to KO the competition with the “jab” (the short quick punch), kinda rope a dope em. If Kyle is the QB then that’s who I got to ride with. (DD, if I like it or not) So I am in need of a craft store in Denver so I can make my sign for the Home Opener. Watch out Bungles, or you gonna get KO’d. It’s all I got.
Yeah, unless the QB is named Ryan Leaf, ha, ha.
Sorry for those who were not named in my mock Captains pick. Only allowed 7, so if you guys were gorgeous blonde’s who adored me, you might have had a shot, ha, ha. (jk)
for footballmaniac- i learned long ago living out of the broncos broadcast area that the only way to go was with directv because you can buy the nfl package. dump the dish and go with directv.
I want EVERYBODY to please watch this video of how stupid and ignorant Ocho Cinco sounds. ESPN videos with him for eight minutes and even laugh like theyre making fun of him!! Watch the WHOLE movie and I GUARANTEE you will get a great laugh!!!!

How dd Haggan and Woodyard get named captains and not D.J. Williams?
sess44, the players and only the players vote for team captains. Obviously they’re the only ones who know what’s really going on in the locker room and vote on strength of character and leadership abilities. The only captain position that’s a given is QB, for obvious reason (the team leader regardless of his leading abilities). All the other guys, up for grabs. Guess DJ does a lot on the field but not enough in the players mind to lead them, at least not as much as Haggan and Woodyard do, in their eyes.
I understand that the team votes on it. It just threw me off since Williams was a captain last year.
They say that Haggan is an inside linebacker but I thought he played at outside linebacker and it says that in the depth chart. Can somebody advise me which is correct please?
AS for the captains I find it all superfluous since they are really just honorary titles. The coaches make all the decisions. If the coach wants working captains he should pick them before each game and they should be players who lead by example. You only have three teams so you should only have three captains, one of which should be club captain. Dawkins will fire them up whether he is a captain or not, but he would be my club captain and my defence captain. Orton has to be captain of the the offence, and as for special teams, who is their leader, any suggestions?
sess44, you’re surprised DJ isn’t a captain this year because he was last year, but considering captains are voted by today’s players, it doesn’t surprise me at all that the captains are different, BECAUSE THE TEAM GOT RID OF NEARLY 5O % OF ITS PLAYERS FROM LAST YEAR! It’s just that simple.
GBush, as far as I know , Haggan is an outside LB. As far as the captain choices are, when McD was asked if Woodyard was the STcaptain, he took offense to that and said that they were all captains and at no particular position. If there were only three captains, I would pick the starting QB on offense (Orton), Bailey on defense and Woodyard on ST.
Let me correct that percentage of returning players. From last year 53 we have only 21 left on this year’s roster, that’s 40 % returning players, 60% brand new players.
After this research, I have to say that I am even floored by that figure. I predicted in January that McD would get rid of up to twenty two players and everyone thought I was exagerating, man, he got rid of 32!!!!
