Around the NFL today, teams are commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The NFL and NFLPA have pledged a $1 million donation to various 9/11 charities and memorials. Additionally, the league has given players permission to wear special gloves and shoes that pay tribute to those who passed in the tragic events of that day and all sideline personnel will wear special patriotic-themed ribbons.
The Broncos will honor the victims of 9/11 with a pregame entertainment lineup that includes the singing of America the Beautiful and the Parade of Colors with Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Police & Fire participation. All fans in attendance will receive American flags, and are being asked to participate in a group singing of the National Anthem.
“I was actually in New York during 9/11,” Head Coach John Fox recalled. “We actually just got done playing the Broncos and we flew back. It’s pretty amazing that that’s been 10 years and it’s kind of something that’s sort of etched in your mind forever if you were in New York during those times—I think that’s probably true for everybody.”
“Everything stopped from what I remember,” safety Brian Dawkins said. “To me it just seemed like everything stopped, and everybody was focused on the television sets and what was going on. If you’d gone and looked outside, you probably wouldn’t have seen too many cars on the road. To do what we’re doing for those families that have lost, the way that America changed because of that, obviously is a huge thing that I’m happy to be a part of.”

Today Coach Cowher said we were a team to watch out for with our new defense. I like to hear that. so my future brother-in-law is coming over to watch the game tommorow. and i’ll i heard this weekend was remember last year’s game (especially here in socal). cant wait till tommorow, then i will be telling them “Remember last Monday Night.” lol. LETS GO BRONCOS.
Haven;t gone through the blogs yet, so sorry if I repeat a few things, but:
Chiefs look like they will be pretty bad this year, just like I expected.
Colts are hopeless without manning.
Detroit will be a challenge.
Bears defense is scary.
Chargers will be scary too, if they start out fast this year.
Either the Bengals are better than I expected, or the Browns are worse.
Was fun to watch the Steelers getting ROFL stomped.
I hope the eagles don’t live up to their dream team expectations, but they kinda did today.
34-13 broncos win
Steelers D screwed me. Negative points. I knew I should have played Broncos D but steelers and ravens is usually a low scoring game on both sides.
3rd Gen play Branch IMO … the NE pass more. And we are yet to know if Eddie will be back in rookie season form this season. In NE … anyone can score a TD and anyone can catch a pass. They are like the Packers … and the saints … passers. Hence why i have Jordy Nelson in my main league. So I would go Branch. But then again I went pitts DST … TRB
THANK GOD IT’S MONDAY
Good Morning Fellow Bronco Maniacs!!
First off, I just wanted to say that my heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones during 9/11. What you might not be aware of is here in Newfoundland, Canada, we had hundreds of flights destined to the US diverted to our airports on that day and I’m so proud to say that the local communities rallied and took all these passengers into their homes, fed them, gave them a bed to sleep on and just made them feel at home in such a terrible time.
So Wow, for what seemed like forever is finally here! GAME DAY!!!
It was so tough to watch all those games yesterday knowing I had to wait another day to see our boys…….but now it’s here!!
Some great games yesterday! The Ravens D was sick………but their O actually put it together too, which is scary.
Not sure if it was just a bad game for the Chiefs, or if they just stink. I hope they just stink! lol
Chargers will be tough……….but we all knew that already so it’s just something we have to deal with and make sure we don’t waste our opportunities when we play them.
Cowboys blew that game bigtime. Romo…..what were you thinking dude? lol and a blocked punt at that point in the game is TOTALLY unacceptable.
And all I can say is Rex Grossman?!?!?!? LOL Good on ya buddy!
So, now let’s bring on the Faders!! I have a really good feeling about this game. We really need to stuff the run, and once we do that, it’s going to be a LONG night for Campbell. He’s not a good QB under pressure………..so let’s force him to make bad throws and make sure he pays in every snap. I sense a big sack night for VONDOOM!!!
And for gods sake, LIMIT THE PENALTIES!! Seems as though stupid penalties have always cost us games and put us in bad spots. Play smart and limit the times you shoot yourselves in the foot.
It would be great to see Tebow untilized in situational play too…….and keep the D off balance. You never know what Fox has schemed without any of us knowing!!
GO BRONCOS!!
The first week of score predictions is finally over, all picks are in, good luck to everyone, 76 entries, unbelievable, it’s going to be real tough earning some points with this kind of participation this year. It’s gonna be brutal!
The results will be posted first thing tomorrow am.
And that’s when the score prediction for the Cinci game will start being taken. DO NOT make them tonight on the game blog as I usually don’t even read that, entries for any game always start the day AFTER the current game and end the day BEFORE the game you’re predicting, no exception.
Dilfer will be the TV analyst on the game tonight:
So it will be interesting to hear his comments tonight during the Raiders- Broncos clash on “Monday Night Football.”
Dilfer, who joined ESPN in 2008 after a 14-year NFL career, speaks his football mind even if his comments anger coaches and players.
“I don’t try to be controversial,” Dilfer said from his San Francisco-area home. “I do a lot of preparation — including watching game tapes — to get the facts before I offer an opinion. Sometimes my opinions bother people.”
He believes too many analysts and observers make “throwaway” comments out of ignorance.
While not predicting the final score of tonight’s game, Dilfer feels — after looking at tape — that Denver will be improved over last season.
“The defense is much better,” he said. “I expect Elvis Dumervil and rookie Von Miller to have exceptional years. Still, Denver is not a playoff contender.”
“I’m excited that John Elway is a key part of the Broncos’ organization. He’s a competitor — on and off the field. And John Fox is an excellent coach. They can set the team’s thermometer during a game.”
I couldn’t agree more with Dilfer about all of that, interview was courtesy of Dusty Sanders.
Are you ready for some football?
GAME DAY!
And we will be the very last game of the entire opening week, they really are testing our patience this year, haha.
I’d think I’d rather listen to Dilfer than Jaws and Gruden.
Should be a great game. Tough to make season long judgements after last night but I can’t get over how badly the Chiefs were manhandled, especially in the run game. Counter that with their inability to sustain a run game and they looked down right bad.
I saw them being a team that runs 35-40 times a game with that 3 headed monster of Charles, Jones, and McClain. I was certainly wrong.
You have to remember they had a sluff schedule too. That’s not saying that they are a bad team but when you only play like 3 teams with a winning record of course you will “look” good.
As long as I don’t have to listen to Phil Simms, any commentator is good enough to me.
I agree @brian Jaws is too over the top for my likings
Yeah, it’s gonna be more low key, no non sense sort of approach, but Gruden is fun. Either way I probably won’t listen to anything anyone says because I’ll be so engrossed in the game.
Completely agree, but the Bills hanging 41 points on them… easily the biggest shock of week 1 in my eyes
Well you have Jaws, a former QB, and you have Gruden, a former coach. Its like listening to kids bickering sometimes with those two.
I’m so pumped I can hardly contain myself! They say “patience is a virtue” I think they lie. LOL
All the media told us how much worse KC would be this year, we just didn’t know how bad. Yet, they think we’ll be worse, LOL.
Haley probably gave the Bills coach the imfamous finger waggle. LOL!
I think it’s just that the AFC West is losing a lot of respect amongst the media. Not nearly as bad as the NFC West thankfully
The shock was on the KC fans, did you guys hear all the booing, and they were leaving after halftime, LOL. The stadium was nearly empty in the 4th.
Well, yeah, our division has one clear leader and three wanna be, and the NFC West has no leader, all wanna be, LOL.
What’s with the West anyway?
I guess all the gold is gone…
The most boring football played is in those division matchups. Straight snoozers. At least Kolb can make the Cards relevant.
We need to bring back the competition to the AFC West. I remember when I was younger the AFC West was always a 4 headed competition for the division. The rivalries were much stronger and meaner. Seems like its mellowed out some. That’s why I miss Romanowski..he was such an instigator. LOL
The gold is most certainly gone
Exactly, I suppose it’s just a cyclical thing. 3 of our teams began rebuilding around the same time, minus the Raiders since they are always rebuilding.
Some teams with new coaches struggled (Cleveland, Tennessee), but some teams with established coaches and programs were even worse (Atlanta, Kansas City, Pittsburgh). LOL!!!
Yeah, to me Atlanta’s lopsided loss to Cutler was the biggest surprise of this first week so far. Some are picking Atlanta to win the SB.
Anyway, I think my Bronco loss prediction to the Bears gained a little credibility, LOL.
My win prediction against the Bills probably lost some credibility.
Like Elway said the organization let go of Cutler too easily, he seems to be maturing.
Yeah, mine to but now my loss at KC prediction lost credibility too, so that even things out, LOL.
Possibly, or he’ll go out and throw 3 picks next week. I was a huge fan of Cutler but his Jekyll and Hyde play is something he hasn’t been able to shake. Who knows, this might be the year he figures it out
I heard Matrz saying Cutler has been making some huge commitment to improving this off season and that his foot work has improved greatly, and bad foot work is where most your INTs come from, I believe he will be fine just like Elway does.
So Bill Polian attended the Stanford-Duke game on Saturday to scout Andrew Luck.
I would be too as things are not looking good for the Colts.
I wonder if Peter King will change his mind as he picked Falcons/Chargers…
Still early and long way to go.
And the worse part of that they just signed Manning to the biggest contract in the NFL, much of it being guaranteed, that’s gotta blow.
Didn’t I read that they can bow out of that contract somehow?
I wonder if King still thinks we only win 5 games after watching KC play, that’s why I went with 6, LMAO!
I think the colts have bigger issues than just Manning……..the Texans pretty much walked all over their D as well.
The Colts really haven’t ever had a “strong” D. Teams that play the Colts seem to be able to get in a shoot out with them which usally ends with Manning throwing like 4 TDs and 2 INTs. Not always the case but it seems like it most of the time.
Cutler would’ve had a couple picked off if they would not have been dropped by Falcons. I surfed between that game and Ravens/Steelers. Falcons definitely out of sync. Urlacher and Bears were stuffing Sneed and Turner.
You’re right, wasn’t aware of that, I guess I don’t care about the Colts so I don’t keep up:
The Colts can get out of Peyton Manning’s contract in 2012 without any further guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.Manning has a $28 million option bonus due on the fifth day of the league year in 2012. Schefter points out that the Colts “could be staring straight at one of the most significant financial decisions they will ever have to make.” While that’s true, it’s hard to believe the Colts won’t swallow that pill considering Manning’s history and the lack of alternatives.
I don’t care for Colts either, but curious to see where Luck plays next season.
I watched part of that Bear game too, they looked a lot better than had been reported, so much so I was shocked.
Well if we go 0-16 I can definitely tell you where Luck plays next season….
Where Brian? Starting with Tebow still number 2? LOL
You know what burns me too……….not having Schef as a tight end. Man, he’s awesome at his position and a threat all over the field……….and we just let him go. Thanks again McD! UGH!
