Our department has been writing all summer long about the wonderful opportunities we have been lucky enough to partner on for youth football in our community. It is only fair, though, to really acknowledge the efforts of some of our great volunteers who run the programs and serve as ambassadors for us on the Broncos Youth Football Task Force.
Our department looks forward to thanking this group of hard working youth football coaches at Maggiano’s this Wednesday over pasta and laughs . . .
John Ayers of the Broomfield Youth Football Association led the charge for NFL Junior Player Development three years ago and has run successful programs for junior high school players since then. This year, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, including our own Broncos Boys and Girls Club, sent players up to John’s camp in Broomfield and they had a ball.
Darrel Hird, who is the USA Football coordinator in Colorado, started his JPD program in Highlands Ranch several years ago and moved it over to Aurora this summer along side Coach Billy Richardson of the Aurora Youth League . . . we expect great things from these hardworking Aurora kids in Broncos Bowl in a couple of weeks.
The great guys over at Denver PAL, Jeff McDonald and Kenny Galasso, ran a two-site operation this summer in Denver at both East and Lincoln High Schools. Many young players from inner city Denver had this wonderful opportunity to learn football fundamentals as a result.
Finally, Coach Wayne Voorhees of Legacy High School, our resident expert on the high school football scene, has tirelessly worked to advance high school football in our community. He has run NFL High School Player Development for three years up at Legacy–he has brought kids in from all over the metro area to grow and learn. This summer was extra speacial as he led a team of 12 young men from his HSPD camp to compete in an NFL 7-on-7 tournament in Houston in July . . . . . .the kids had an absolute ball and will be recognized at halftime during our August 25 game against Cleveland along side our Broncos Bowl teams.
It has been quite a summer for youth on the football field to say the least, but truly not possible without the energy, perseverance and dedication of the aforementioned coaches.
Thanks, guys!!! See you Wednesday at Maggiano’s!!!!!
