Surprise Visitors

April 10th, 2012 - 2:17pm by Stuart Zaas

Tuesday morning Katie Walsh received a pair of surprise visitors to her hospital room at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.

Broncos defensive linemen Robert Ayers and Kevin Vickerson spent time with the 17-year old high school senior, who is recovering from a procedure that she underwent the day before.

Katie’s mom, Lynda, described the visit as the best medicine they’ve received in the 14 months since Katie began battling illness.

“It was great,” Vickerson said. “Whenever you can put a smile on a kid’s face that’s going through something -– whatever I can do, whatever I can say that can help lift their spirits up, I’m happy to do.”

  7. Broncos LAX says:

I like the idea of Ayers at DT but I want to se one more year of him at DE he will be in the same system and position for the second year in a row and it is his natural position plus with Von and Doom taking doubleteams Ayers may thrive how Charles Johnson did a couple years ago both have similar bodies but Ayers is more athletic.. I want to see how that works

  8. Broncos LAX says:

  15. SWBronco says:

AB, that would be ridiculous if that happened, but I like most of the players we’re getting so I guess I like this guy’s draft haha.

  16. SWBronco says:

When did they fix the blog clock?

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

SW I agree it would be ridiculous. However I like ever pick.

I think my buddy who made it was trying to screw Denver up for years which is why all the trades with them. After i read it all i had to call him and give him crap about it LOL.

I also think my buddy was influenced some by me because almost every pick are players that I want minus Brock but the other guys can get me to live with it LOL

  18. daddybronc says:

LAX – just know that when you post something like that – there are many on here who worship that Jesus who is being mocked. Most are mature enough to take it is stride and to be able to see the humor, but it is pretty lame in my book because it doesn’t come close to grasping the majesty, and the sovereignty of the real Jesus.

  19. SWBronco says:

Haha I noticed that too, when is Nick Foles’ QB Camp? Did I miss it, because that segment really boosted my opinion of Osweiler.

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

Has anyone read tweets between DJ Miller and Royal? LMAO they are great!

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

I wouldn’t be opposed to Haynesworth if he’d accept a minimum contract with performance incentives. With Manning, Bailey, Kuper, Doom, I think we have a locker room that could keep him in check. And obviously we need a DT so he’d address a need.

We all saw the dominating way he played in his contract year with the Titans, maybe a incentive based contract could help refuel that motivation. With that said, I still wouldn’t hold my breath on us bringing him in.

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

Atwater not to mention Fox Elway and JDR who dont accept locker room drama

  23. Atwater4HOF says:

Well we had quite the locker room drama last year with Tebow. Drafting him was begging for drama lol

Fox has had his share of locker room drama with Steve Smith in Carolina.

I wouldn’t go after Haynesworth personally but under the right circumstances I wouldn’t fault Denver for doing so

  24. SWBronco says:

Those same points could be why Burfict might be a good pick in the 5th or 6th, but then again you never can tell

  25. Atwater4HOF says:

Exactly, SW. You can have guys with a little prima donna attitude that still help you win. Just need to have the right leaders in the locker room to keep him in check.

Burfict has the talent of a 1st-2nd rounder. 5th-6th round usually goes to role players and depth. At that spot he’d be low risk high reward

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

Tebow wasnt locker room drama. He wasnt a negative locker room presence. There never was anything about Tebow causing problems in the locker room. So i dont see how you can say he caused drama.

If anyone caused drama it was the fans and the media. Which fueled the fire that is Tebowmania. Even then i wouldnt say it was drama.

Drama is negativity in the locker room. The locker room seemed real happy last year especially after Orton left.

  27. Atwater4HOF says:

AB the mock for us would turn out great. I just would have a tough time believing all the wheelin and dealing going on. A flurry of trades like that in a pressed for time atmosphere like the draft is probably unlikely.

I do like dropping into extra picks in the 2nd and 3rd if Cox, Brockers, and Poe are gone before 25. Like I said before they are the Tier 1 guys and we can draft one of the 5-6 Tier 2 guys in the 2nd-3rd rounds

  28. SWBronco says:

Once again AB, you’re on top of things. I got a similar feeling from the locker room with Tebow vs. Orton.

  29. Atwater4HOF says:

Are you serious AB ? The fans calling for Tebow early on was a HUGE distraction. Once he got the job it wasn’t as big of a distraction.

I don’t have the direct quotes but the Tebowmania brought a bit of bitterness from the defensive side of the ball. Some felt all of the credit for the wins down the stretch was given to Tebow and not the D.

I didn’t say Tebow himself caused the drama but it was inevitable because of who he is and how the media circus clang to his every pass, game, etc.

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

Atwater that was the first thing i told my buddy who made it. That all those trades are unlikely. I can see some happen but not that many. We get a lot of good young players now to help Denver win next year and then they would have experience for an even more serious run at the SB next season. We lost a lot of picks next year but we got good players for them.

If Denver ends up pulling trades like that to get those players or players of the same caliber then theres more proof that God is a Denver fan! LOL

  31. Atwater4HOF says:

I think you are confusing my original point.

My point was that when the Broncos drafted Tebow (which grant it had a lot to do with McD) they knew immediately the circus that would come along with him.

Ofcourse the locker room was happy, they won like every single game in dramatic (which doesnt have to be negative) fashion each week. And Tebow is a great guy and teammate.

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

I still didnt see it being a big issue. Thats also why i said even more so after Orton left. I remember seeing a lot of locker room interviews were they said its a team sport but i didnt get a sense of being upset that Tebow was given so much credit.

Champ Bailey said that winning is winning no matter how ugly.

So no i dont think there was locker room drama last year. Especially after Orton left. Lloyd also he wouldnt have been happy in a run based O.

  33. Atwater4HOF says:

You could also tell the sense of relief from a lot of players when Denver went with Manning over Tebow. Tebow brought a microscope on every single Bronco game from guys like Skip Bayless who would critique every facet of the team that was “holding Tebow back”.

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

I agree drafting him they knew they were getting a circus following him. But your saying there was locker room drama from it which i dont agree with.

If thats what you were trying to say your wording is very confusing IMO and easily taken the wrong way.

  35. SWBronco says:

HOF, I definitely agree with that. I always liked that Bayless would support Tebow, but I times he’d just shred the rest of the team which wasn’t fair at all. Especially at one point calling Decker “the worst number one receiver in the league,” maybe he was maybe he wasn’t, but Skip said it with such disdain.

  36. alaskanbronco06 says:

Atwater i agree with that. Bayless thought Tebow did it all. Every aspect of the team won the game. As i feel with every game for every team. There were a lot of people that said so many players and the coaches were holding him back.

IMO I do feel that the WR drops made Tebow look a lot worse then he actually was.

  37. Atwater4HOF says:

I’d have to look up the quotes from post game interviews to elaborate my point. The only one of the top of my head was from Brady Quinn who said how Tebow gets all the credit when Denver wins and the defense gets all of the blame when Denver loses.

I’m not trying to start a Tebow debate just saying that players can bring drama whehter positive or negative, directly or indirectly.

  38. Atwater4HOF says:

Exactly SW, Tebow got the credit for the wins and a lot of the media blamed the D for the losses.

Yea AB I’m not saying it was an unhappy locker room. It just brought non stop drama (both negative and positive)

  39. alaskanbronco06 says:

Well I wouldnt take Quinns opinion for a million dollars. Hes just mad cause Tebow got the starts instead of him. Also I wouldnt say that caused drama because the media was causing it not Tebow. I mean every interview i saw with Tebow he thanked God and then said the team won it as a whole and the D deserves a lot of credit for keeping it so close.

Denvers losses were a big part of the Ds fault. Allowing 40+ points cant be Tebows. But he does deserve blame also for turning the ball over.

Denvers wins the D kept it close for Tebow to lead the offense to win the games. Or the D getting a turnover.

Like i said. Its a team sport. Win or Lose credit or blame goes to the team.

  40. Atwater4HOF says:

Deck had quite a few drops at the end of the year. Which from his career at Minnesota, is completely out of character. I have a lot of respect for our wideouts who were asked to run block 65-70% of every game and did so without complaints.

  41. alaskanbronco06 says:

Again I wouldnt say “drama” more of a circus. Drama cause unhappy locker rooms and a lot of problems between players and coaches. Which there wasnt any last year. Even Quinns comment was directed at the media.

Tebow causes a circus where To Moss Haynesworth D Jackson Briggs theu cause drama.

  42. Atwater4HOF says:

I never said Tebow caused it personally. But that’s what you get with a guy like him. It’s the indirect effect he has on the team because of his faith, character, etc.

  43. SWBronco says:

I’m just a bit biased towards Decker. Reminds me of McCaffrey (my favorite bronco ever haha). And after hearing that he burned Champ three times last training camp, I was sold.

  44. Atwater4HOF says:

Well would you call our come from behind wins dramatic? They were drama in a good form lol I’m not trying to argue over word definitions.

I agree those guys have the potential to bring negative drama to a locker room. You never saw that come out of Indy during Manning’s tenure there. I think we have the locker room to accomodate guys that may have unpredictable character

  45. alaskanbronco06 says:

I know you didnt Atwater. Sorry if it came off that way. Wasnt my intentions.

Im shocked that the best Denvers WR catch % was Willis with 50%.

Our WR did a good job. And its great they didnt complain. But there were some drops that wouldve been huge gains or TDs. But then again some of them were way off by Tebow.

Its a team sport. Everyone deserves credit everyone deserves blame.

Unless your the Niners KR who fumbled what twice in the NFC championship game? LOL He deserves the blame. Niners lost directly because of him. The rest of the team played GREAT! LOL

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

Atwater I agree with Manning stuff like that wont happen. Manning wont let it! LOL

Man i wish i could go!!!

  48. Atwater4HOF says:

It’s all good I probably could’ve worded it better

I agree it should always be team blame and credit. Unfortunately that doesn’t write stories lol

Decker dropped a lot of passes towards the end of the year. I dont know if it was lack of focus or not getting into a good rhythm but it was completely out of character from what he did at Minnesota.

That was a tough day for the Williams kid in SF. Career defining in a very negative way lol

  49. broncos20 says:

@ab: wow! talk about going all defensive.with the exception of Brock.

we may need some depth on the OL….key!! PROTECT PM!!!!!!
