Saturday, August 1st, 2009, marked an historic day for youth football in Colorado when the Broncos welcomed a first-ever international youth team — the Panama Marlins – to Broncos Bowl. The Marlins kicked off the day with a hard fought win against the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club.
The day advanced under bright Colorado sunshine with five more games: Wheat Ridge Crushers vs. Broomfield Youth Football Spartans; Legacy Lightning vs. Green Valley Giants; Colorado Springs Boys & Girls Club Vikings vs. City of Fort Collins; Arapahoe Youth League Warriors Red vs. Aurora Crush; and Denver Public Schools Futures North Vikings vs. Pueblo Shamrocks.
Every player that day experienced the feeling of running out of the tunnel to a formal introduction on the 50-yard line and then played a full game on an NFL home turf. Fans were treated to some exciting play by these youngsters, including some near full-field touchdown runs.
The Broncos remain committed to youth football in our community and are thrilled every year to bring an NFL simulated experience to teams throughout Colorado, and hopefully throughout the world moving forward as evidenced in the presence of Panama this year.
Kids, we will see you next year . .. until then, have fun and be safe on the gridiron this fall!
