Quiz for a Cause

September 11th, 2012 - 8:35pm by Gray Caldwell

Tuesday night, linebacker Wesley Woodyard and teammates Nate Irving, David Bruton, Demaryius Thomas and Matt Prater provided brain power to teams competing in a pub quiz for prizes.

More importantly, the group helped raise money for Colorado Youth at Risk and Woodyard’s 16Ways Foundation.

“We definitely hit on a lot of the same things,” Woodyard said of his foundation and Colorado Youth at Risk. “They’re touching kids’ lives and so do I. We all try to grasp that concept of giving back to the youth at risk in Colorado and throughout the world. That’s one of the reasons why I partnered up with them.”

The Touchdowns for Tomorrow: Trivia Night event was held at Rackhouse Pub and hosted by the Geeks Who Drink’s Quiz for a Cause.

Teams of four could register for the event for a fee, then bid on Broncos to join their team during a live auction at the start of the evening.

“I get a chance to team up against some of my teammates, so it’s going to be fun,” Woodyard laughed. “Hopefully I have some answers.”

Colorado Youth at Risk aims to reduced the amount of high school dropouts by pairing youth with adult mentors. Woodyard’s 16Ways Foundation has a similar purpose. The foundation recognizes an emotional need for at-risk youth.

“At-risk youth require reassurance that they matter, in order for them to achieve their highest possible academic and social levels, with the intent to become productive, contributing members of society,” reads the mission statement on the foundation’s website.

The foundation works on a national level to develop and implement workshops, seminars, camps and other activities designed to build self-esteem, promote responsibility and provide knowledge.

Tuesday’s event was an especially fun way to help raise money toward that cause, and the next fundraising event comes at the end of the month — Woodyard’s second annual MVP Dinner on Sept. 25. Woodyard said it meant a lot that his teammates came out to show their support on Tuesday.

“It’s always good to see these guys come out for something like this,” Woodyard said. “It’s real exciting to see.”

Hiya DB! I know it sounds wierd, and you know my concerns were never with his talent, just his longevity and paycheck etc… I think he played great, and since he is our guy now, I found myself cheering as loud as ever! I hope he stays healthy and all my concerns were for nothing! Would make for a very fun season indeed!

  2. DaddyBronc says:

Shhh – me too… but don’t tell anyone or you’ll ruin my reputation. LOL

  3. DaddyBronc says:

Still concerned about the same things. I gave PM 3 games…before I eat crow and grovel.

  4. Bronco_Turtle says:

:) haha! Mums the word then!

I’m off to bed! talk to you guys soon!

  5. DaddyBronc says:

I think PM is actually going to have to survive the first six games before I stop being concerned.

  6. DaddyBronc says:

I think I really like Woodyard!

  7. sndvl says:

I do turtle. Just not sure which one yet. Got a cousins wedding in November. So one of the December games.
That’s where I’m having some trouble though. That last game could be… Well, I want to see Manning play.
The plan was the opener. But then me and my sons mother seperated and I took him on the camping trip in July instead.

  8. sndvl says:

    What about you?

  9. sndvl says:

Evening to you as well Daddy.

Too bad I missed AI2 talk… Lol. Actually. Right now it’s all about the Orange. And Blue!

  10. DaddyBronc says:

Sorry to hear about your split Sndvl. I hope that works out for the family and a game.

  11. DaddyBronc says:

Debating with myself whether or not to ‘Go Big’ for Monday’s game….what to do?…..what to do?…..what to do?…..what to do?…..Hmmm???

  12. tlcat06 says:

Wolfe, with that CB out for Atlanta I have to change my mind. I think we win this one… haven’t decided what my score prediction is yet… you? What do you think?

  13. DaddyBronc says:

    what to do?…..what to do?…..what to do?…..what to do?…..Hmmm???

  14. DaddyBronc says:

    Hi Cat!

I’ve been goofing off here too long. Stirred up enough trouble. It’s your turn now…LOL

  15. sndvl says:

Oh. It’s ok daddy. Thanks though. Our breakup happened in June. I’ve gone through all 5 stages of the grieving process and have moved on.

I know there are always 2 sides to the story, but I realized I deserved to be treated better than what I was. I have my son 90% of the time and that’s all that matters to me!!!

Btw, I’d like to hear yours & turtles take on that sprint option left to Tamme for the TD…

  16. wolfedom says:

Hi Cat, one teacher to another, I was so excited watching PFM and the boys play that I can’t go against them. Were they great or what? We will beat Atlanta by 10 at least. (I hope). Elway sure seemed excited also on his interview. I also think someone should shake Fox every now and them so he remembers to take that red hanky out.

  17. DaddyBronc says:

I saw that play and wondered if McCoy kept that from last year as the one play that Manning could pull off. It was the perfect time and place because they needed to spread out the D.

Actually, on that play, and when PM picked up the first, I thought that I hadn’t seen Manning move that fast since he was a kid.

  18. DaddyBronc says:

I really expected PM to go into this season being a statue in the pocket. I have to admit. I am more than pleasantly surprised.

While it isn’t as exhilarating as watching Tebow. It is great football and it is very entertaining…though I hate to admit it.

  19. DaddyBronc says:

I also saw that play all wrong. I was certain Tamme let go the ball before he hit the ground and everything was out of bounds. My boys were all screaming TOUCH DOWN!! I was arguing that it would get reversed.

Then they showed the slow mo…

Oh, to have young eyes again!

  20. DaddyBronc says:

BTW – The grieving process for divorce is worse than for death. You should plan to cycle through the stages of grief multiple times. Two months is not long enough. It is usually less intense as time goes on. Usually.

I am not a grief counselor, but I have plenty of practical experience walking that path.

  21. DaddyBronc says:

Dang – scared ever body away again.

  22. tlcat06 says:

Wolfe… I didn’t know you were a teacher! True kindred spirits over here! I can’t go against them. I believe that we can beat everybody. Anytime. Anywhere. I don’t think that Fox believes the refs know what they’re doing. Plus they only ended up getting 3 out of that drive so I am not too concerned about it.. he couldn’t challenge the 12 man on the field call anyway even though it was bull we didn’t get it. The refs will be better aware on Monday I think.

DB I went to bed and am now awake. The lameness of being a girl. I do not think that will be the only option. Play we run this year and I told you or someone at some point that Peyton runs it more than you think, there was just no way he was going to do it in preseason.

  23. tlcat06 says:

Difference between Peyton and Tim… Peyton runs as a last resort and truly only when he feels he can get positive yards. Otherwise he will throw it away.

  24. killerkod says:

cat, you reminded me of one of my favorite moments in the game……….when PM left the pocket and ran to the sidelines for that first down! That was freaking awesome and just shows that while that’s his last resort, he can make a play with his legs!

  25. tlcat06 says:

And that he doesn’t give up! Love that guy kod! And that’s what’s on ESPN weekly… a picture of Peyton running! LOL

  26. killerkod says:

I’d love to see our D shut the Falcons down………I don’t think we’ll have any problems scoring points…

I think that scoring play from Thomas really instilled a lot more confidence in Manning about him. Not that he didn’t trust him before, but I think he’s made huge strides in building that chemistry that’s needed…….the kind that PM and Decks seemed to have from the get-go.

Here’s hoping the Chiefs lay an egg in Buffalo……..the Bills looked AWEFUL last week. Also a relatively easy game for the Chargers…..but it might become tougher if Hasselbeck plays.

  27. OrangeTsunami says:

I’d really like to see us improve in time of possession, as we need to get better in this area when we play the teams with elite QB’s. The Steelers controlled the ball way to much on Sunday, and it is a big concern IMO.

Demaryius looked real strong out there, fighting for extra yards after the catch. I couldn’t be happier with his development thus far and I think he (and Decker) will only get better.

Porter had so many plays it was ridiculous, I really hope we lock him up ASAP.

  28. tlcat06 says:

Kod did you see Peytons face after DT scored that touchdown. He was smiling and shaking his head like the whole thing was unbelieveable! Lets do it again!!!!!!!!!!! LOL it was dang awesome. I have seriously never seen so many smiles from him during a game. He was smiling so much except when he couldn’t get on the field. He was pissed.

    I don’t know… I think the AFC west wins this week…

  29. tlcat06 says:

OT I don’t get why we haven’t already extended Porter!

  30. killerkod says:

Yup, Oakland has a relatively easy game too against the fins………we have the toughest game and the toughest schedule by far.

    Morning OT!

It’s really gonna come down to divisional games……and we’ll get our first taste of that in a few weeks. We absolutely need to DESTROY the faiders at home!

  31. tlcat06 says:

I am very positive about beating the division. KC might get better as time goes on but the Chargers and Raiders booth looked beatable.

  32. killerkod says:

Yeah, we should lock Porter up………as long as he stays healthy, he’ll be a force to reckon with on the other side…….

  33. sndvl says:

Hahaha Daddy. Im pretty sure I’ve already cycled at least twice. In hindsight I waited too long and her actions since have made it clear I made the best decision. Not for me, but for my son.

Anyway… I know that’s not what abybody wants to read this AM. So my apologies.

Is it possible to be more excited for this game than last? I was concerned the Steeler defense would give us fits, combined with the revenge factor and a new QB…
This game though! If it turns into a track meet, unlike last year, I like our chances :)

I’m listening to John Lynch on Mike & Mike and he stated if he were still playing, he would be the first player that payed to play (due to the amount of fines he’d accrue!)…

    Broncos Country Strong 2012!

  34. OrangeTsunami says:

I know we’ve had our share of draft issues, but here’s something in our favor:

    Darrius Heyward-Bey; 2009 draft; 7th overall selection

Demaryius Thomas; 2010 draft; 22nd overall selection

Jon Baldwin; 2011 draft; 26th overall selection

  35. OrangeTsunami says:

Morning kod, and everyone else. Too bad we have to wait until Monday, but at least we have a ton of national games!

With Warren done, together with Hunter, that’s two DL that are out already after just one week.. We need to stay healthy on the DL from here on out, and hopefully one of our younger guys will step up and impress.

As far as our LB’s go, I don’t care what anyone thinks, but I for one can’t wait for DJ Williams to get back (this is football, not the boy scouts).

  36. killerkod says:

I hear ya OT…….as much as he’s disappointed me with his actions lately, there’s no denying he can make an impact on the field. He’ll be a huge boost to our D when he gets back.

any idea of when Goodell might extend his suspension? Is there criteria as to when these types of decisions are made?

  37. OrangeTsunami says:

No idea.. What an idiot for not taking the original deal Goodell offered, lowering it to 3 games…. Suspensions often get reduced, and the recent Bounty Gate developments may help his cause, hopefully he can work out out a deal, and keep it at 6 games. I just hope he can stay in shape, and keep his nose clean.
