Drive For Life XIV

October 3rd, 2011 - 12:19pm by Gray Caldwell

Since 1998, the Broncos’ community blood drive, Drive for Life, has been held on a Tuesday during the football season.

Working in conjunction with Bonfils Blood Center, Drive for Life has grown into one of Denver’s best Broncos traditions with record numbers of donors helping to bolster Colorado’s blood supply just in time for the difficult winter months.

Drive for Life has become the largest single-day blood drive in the history of Colorado and one of the largest in the nation.

This year, the 14th annual Drive For Life will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 4) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. MDT at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Attendees will have the chance to meet Denver Broncos players, alumni and cheerleaders while enjoying complimentary stadium food and entertainment.  Additionally, donors will receive commemorative T-shirts and lapel pins and will also be eligible for raffle prizes including gift certificates from local businesses and autographed Broncos memorabilia.

There are 49 players and alumni expected to attend, including the likes of Champ Bailey, Von Miller, Ryan Clady, Steve Foley, Randy Gradishar and Billy Thompson.

Thanks weatherman, but in this neck of the woods we don’t believe it until we actually get it.

What would it hurt to try Tebow for ONE Game?????

There is NOTHING to lose by letting him play for 1 stinking game!!

Just let him practice with the 1st team offense for a week and give him one game to either shut all the Tebow zealots up or shut up the Tebow bashers!!!!!!

One game a 55% contract escalator does not make!!!!

I DOUBLE DOG DARE FOX AND ELWAY TO PUT TEBOW IN FOR JUST………. ONE GAME….

PUT YOUR MOUTH WHERE YOUR FOOT IS FOX AND GIVE THE “GAMER” AN HONEST TO GOODNESS FAIR SHOT AT ONE GAME!!!!!!!!

They wont, because FOX and ELWAY ((FEAR))! they Fear that Tebow will WIN!!……. That is the only answer!!!!!

They FEAR that Tebow will WIN!!!!!!!!

If you are not afraid that TT will win than here is your chance to shut up all the Tebow talk, here is the chance to prove that Orton is our best chance to win! Put Tebow in against SD and let the WORLD SEE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!

Don’t be AFRAID ELWAY! Don’t be AFRAID FOX!!!!

I DARE YOU TO PLAY TEBOW!!!!!!!

    YOU TWO BIG CHICKENS!!!!! book…bbbook,bbbboook

  7. orangecrushTD says:

John Fox is about as exciting as Orton is. Does anyone think that this coach is the future of our franchise? I don’t… Does anyone think that if our team keeps this up that Fox will still be our coach at the end of the season? Elway can’t trust him that much. Does anyone think that there’s a chance Fox will start Tebow this year? I’m beginning to think no…

I’m calling the upset against SD, with or without Tebow being our starter.

  8. orangecrushTD says:

    hahaha. they are too chicken……

  9. seweatherman1 says:

If they put him in they will give him controlled plays where his hands will be tied like they were in his first game last year. You have got to grow a pair and turn the beast loose. RELEASE THE BEAST!!!

Still baffles me to this day how we could trade Cutler and get Orton in return? Not to say I think Cutler is all that……….but COME ON MAN! Bears brass must still be snickering over how they pulled that one off.

    MCGAHEE RUSHES FORWARD

For the second time this season, running back Willis McGahee eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark.

What’s more, McGahee’s 103 yards on 15 carries came against the league’s top rush defense. Coming into Sunday’s game, the Packers were giving up an average of just 55 rushing yards per game.

“It’s cool and all, but we didn’t get the win,” McGahee said. “You want the 100 yards and you want the win. The O-line did a great job as far as running the ball. That was our thing, we had to run the ball, get off the blocks and get me to the second level. I think we did a great job of that. But, it’s frustrating — you can get 100 yards all you want, but still no ‘W’.”

McGahee’s success speaks to the offensive balance Head Coach John Fox was looking to instill in the Broncos attack. The progress made on the ground allowed quarterback Kyle Orton and his receivers to find more space in the passing game.

“We have to run the ball, because without running the ball, the passing game won’t be there,” McGahee said. “You saw, we took shots, because they were playing the run heavy. It worked out for both ends.

“But we made a couple mistakes, fumbles, interceptions and just key things that always shoot us in the foot.”

  16. strandoftds says:

Willis Mcgahee is one bright spot on the offense, Eric Decker also.

  17. HardHitting27 says:

For all that space that was created for the passing game due to the run, Orton was 22/32 Comp/Att 273yds 3 TD 3 INT 87.1 rating. Great numbers but the picks didn’t help the D at all. I don’t care how great your numbers are during the game, if the ones on the scoreboard aren’t more than the other teams at the end of the game it mead jack squat.

Orton is great at putting up good misleading numbers, it’s been his calling card in Denver.

In the end the Ws matter most.
So, once again, how is it he gives us the best chance to win? And why is Fox saying he kept him in for the experience since he needed it?

  18. HardHitting27 says:

means jack squat…… oops on the typo

  19. seweatherman1 says:

NFL approves Broncos’ switch back to orange uniforms

Orange has made a full comeback.

The NFL has officially approved the Broncos’ request to change its full-time home jersey from dark blue to burnt-orange.

Or-ange you glad? Team surveys say so.

“This is what our fans wanted,” said Broncos president Joe Ellis. “And we’re going to accommodate their wishes starting with 2012.”

The burnt orange color with the dark-blue stripes down the side and white numbers and lettering, has been the Broncos’ “alternative” home jersey in recent years, including this season’s opener against the Oakland Raiders.

Beginning next year, the Broncos will wear the orange for eight or nine of their 10 home games (including preseason). The dark blue jersey — which had been the team’s predominant home look since the 1997 season — will be worn by the Broncos for one or two home games.

The burnt-orange will be the seventh variation of the Broncos’ home jersey since they began playing in 1960. Orange was their predominant home color from 1962 through 1996.

Don’t know how much more of this I can stomach. Really pushes the boundries of “fanhood”. All I can hope for is for the young talent to keep developing. I would say this was a good start as far as drafting is concerned. Seems like we will be picking in the top ten again. We just cannot afford to miss on anymore picks.,,We need to,make them count. Keep developing that young talent, at least thats what Im looking forward to.

  21. HardHitting27 says:

In order to develope the younger guys they need to have the chance to play (i.e. Tebow and the other rookies and 1st/2nd years) that are not getting significant game time snaps or practice reps with the 1st teamers

  22. broncsbomber66 says:

I dont think Tebow gets a fair chance here. Just dont see it happen. Look at Fox’s history.

I am really grateful that this Frustration Forum exists. I get to swap ignorance with all you other arm chair QB’s and coaches who have a semblance of football education. Isn’t it fun to get all exercised over a game without breaking a sweat?! I really do appreciate hearing the opinions especially of those who spend the time to gather new info and stats and throw them into the mix.

I think I guessed how the game would go pretty well in my predictions before the game. I predicted a 42-3 blowout.

My surprises are that Orton was a little better than I expected in that he did throw a couple a perfect passes to Decker as red-zone plays. I was also a little surprised at how badly Orton under-threw Lloyd on several of those passes when Lloyd had outrun the defense, and was completely wide open. I was surprised that Orton could perform that horribly (INT’s) when the O-Lines seems to get him a more solid pocket week by week.

I was surprised that Denver actually had a running game against a top ranked run defense. Kudos to McGahee – and my apologies cuz I’ve bagged on him a bit. I think that I saw significant improvement of offensive control of the line of scrimmage. The pocket held against what was a real challenge. These things give me real optimism going on into the future. Go Broncos!

The defense went about like I thought and predicted. It was encouraging to see the defense able to hold early in the 1st quarter – but frankly, no defense can sustain very well against that A. Rodgers passing attack. That was artistry in the air. The Denver defense really did pretty well against the run with GB only breaking loose for a few long ones. They would have done better had they been able to get a few more breaths along the sidelines.

It looked to me like the Tebow play was designed to make Tebow look foolish to the fanbase. The O-line made no effort on that play to open a hole for Tebow. I take this as a clear statement that Fox and McCoy have chosen to sacrifice the Tebow career. I don’t know what Tebow will have to do to win over Fox. ???

Fox talked about Eeyor/ Orton needing to learn their system. Maybe the truth is that Fox is only capable of understanding and running ‘his’ own system. This really does present a huge problem for Tebow as “big Timmy” absolutely cannot succeed in the NFL without an offense the is design around his skill set. In the end is this a Tebow dilemma or a Fox Flaw?

  25. daddybronc says:

San Diego’s confidence is soaring, compared to Denver’s gut knowledge that this year is a bust. I predict that the score won’t show it but this game will be a much uglier game than the Packer game.

Champ ought to save himself for a ‘good Bronco team’ and hope that it shows up sometime in the next two years.

    SD – 38….DEN – 17

  26. WieminCA says:

    Observations …

NO pressure from the DL … we really suck there … we MUST get stronger there … until we do, nothing else matters … our run D statistics are skewed, because nobody HAS to run on us … Miller got 2 sacks yesterday, but so what?? … they were meaningless … did you hear Doom’s name called?? … Rodgers had a career day, but then what else is new … any time our opponent needs 10 yards, they can just run wide on us …

McGahee is a warrior … our run blocking seems to be improving … our pass blocking is great – 1 sack against us, I think?? … but in general Orton had time to throw … for the youth on the OL, this bodes well …

Orton’s consistency is suffering … lots of great throws, then he misses a sure thing … very frustrating …

#27 is a bust … he tries so hard, but he’s just too small/”slow”, in that he runs too long in one place … and he can’t stay healthy … I think that 1st rounder was a waste, as was the Tebow choice, and the Thomas choice … they all had a bit of merit, but were high risk …

As for Tebow – there must be some reason we don’t see him … you guys who want him so bad, it’s not ’cause you think he could save this team, it’s just selfishness, ’cause YOU want to see him play … I heard the quip this a.m., coaches who listen to fans end up watching the game with them … that’s probably true … your frustration is understandable, but you’re not calling for Steve Young here …

Our opponents so far are all .500 or better … even the Bengals … we do have an impossible schedule … but we can beat most teams, but probably won’t … we still make loads of mistakes … but the penalties seem down this year – attribute that to the coaches, I guess …

We were just up against the BEST yesterday – most games we’ll be in them … give the team some more time … like – DRAFT DL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What’s up Bronco Country

Long time reader first time blogger. Getty Up!!! Bronco’s forever.
So times r tough to say the least in Bronco land these days. We all need to take a deep breath and get on the Suck for Luck program. I’m Sorry to have to even think of losing games. Lets face it Orton is not the answer we can all see that. Tebow can’t say enough good things about the guy. Unfortunately John Elway “iconic 7″ and fox do not believe that Tebow is the answer ether. I would have loved to have seen Tebow in the starting line up just to watch him compete. Orton’s a smart fairly accurate passer within 15 yards not at all athletic. boring as all get up to watch.

I’ve been watching Andrew Luck play QB strait up legit the kid can play ball. yeah he can spin it accurately too yeah he’s mobile as heck, he can catch too. His drop backs r so impressive the ball gets to his run backs so smoothly it’s ridiculous. Don’t take my word though just watch a game or two.

Suck for Luck can’t say I have ever rooted for my Broncos to lose ever!! in 24 years. All won’t be lost if Elway does all he can to bring in Luck. To bring Bronco country back to Glory. It can be as easy as losing and I don’t even get all worked up about it any more.

So can we all just get along no more tebow this or orton that it is what it is. I say Suck for Luck and enjoy watch the broncos

    Broncos!!!
can’t really say go broncos right now :(

  30. stevecan2 says:

same ol song and dance. same problem with tebow. I thought it was more than evident that w just want him on the field period. because the gods honest truth is that if tebow were qb1 sitting at 1 and 3, the ortonite crowd would be gloating. told ya.ll so he ain.t an nfl qb. the irony has become sickening. with that we all just want to win and the reality is, we have seen inprovment with the d, the o line, the run game. what we have not seen is an individual inprovment from kyle orton. until we either start winning or he steps up his game, no amount of koolaid will change anyone mind. I do ask however that if quinn or tebow take over the arguments used to defend orton will carry over to our next qb1. I will hold you all to it. cause I guarantee you if tebow as qb1 fails, I will give the same amount of criticism and I hope ya’ll hold me to it. accountability separates the men from the boys. same for woman too!

  31. daddybronc says:

I don’t think I could disagree more with WiemanCA assessment of the defense. Take away the Eeyore / Orton pick 6 and the score off the onside kick and the Broncos win the first half as well as momentum for the second half. I think the defense is amazing and getting better. Most of Rodgers passes were perfection threaded through an opening nothing larger than a football would fit. The coverage was there. Exceptions of course – but not bad. Goodman blew a couple of coverages – maybe needs to retire?

If you didn’t see the improvement with Doom – I don’t know how to help you. Yes – Doom was a step off his pace but when you see the little guy go literally ‘up the gut’ of an O-lineman pushing him into his own QB. That’s an amazing feat. Doom forced most of the tackles and sacks to happen, and the way he played – it was no wonder the Pack avoided his side.

Until the late second half with only one exception – Wilhite, Mays and associates shut down the run game. Defense was on the field 6 minutes longer than offense for the game but I’d bet all of that and more came in the late second half. (Anyone one have TOP for 1st half?)

This defense needs Champ back, DOOM full strength, Miller with better reads – and these guys are gonna go the distance! Go Broncs!

Fix the Offense! and frankly I saw great improvement offensively. Yesterday’s performance would have the Broncos 3-1. No doubt the Pack was a superior team yesterday – but nothing to be discouraged about. Nearly every position is improving including QB because the more Orton looks like Orton, the closer the QB position looks like Tebow.

  32. daddybronc says:

While I’m posting encouraging comments –

Momentum in favor of San Diego – 38
Denver knows they have issues – 17

    Season 4-12 or 3-12

They beat MIN and MIA and maybe pick up the home game against KC.

It’s gonna be a long year – find encouragement where you can.

A comment about Steve Young: Steve Young may have known that he had the talent all along. But if it wasn’t for Montana having being hurt no one would have even given Young a chance.

Because Young was such a good runner and athlete he was heavily recruited by NC who wanted him to play more of an option type role. However, Young chose BYU. Initially, he struggled at throwing the ball, and BYU’s coaching staff considered switching him to defensive back because of his athleticism. Left handed, considered more of a running QB, Young had to work hard on his skills passing. Sound familiar?

He was actually considered a bust so he got traded to the ’9er’s as a backup. Get this; On October 30, 1988, Young ran through the Minnesota Vikings for a 49-yard, game-winning touchdown run. Again sound familiar?

All in all i’m not saying that Tebow is the next Young, but Tebow just like Young may just need an opportunity to prove himself.

Check out Young on Wiki i’m sure a lot of stuff will surprise you about this guy and how comparable he and Tebow are… Just saying sometimes you just need an opportunity.

Man, Wow… I never thought of it like that before iconic_7…

I could actually be in a great mood right now and thrilled to have witnessed our roll over on the tundra….? humm?? doesn’t sound too bad..tell me more..

It’s way better than being depressed about losing….

So, lets see. I need to root for the Broncos to lose, and watch Andrew Luck to get excited about losing…

But, what if we don’t suck very well? Should I be depressed then?…

What if we don’t suck enough for Luck and end up, like, just sucking only enough to get a top ten player and then we end up signing Orton for a few more years and sucking some more…???

I dont know about all this losing now to gain and win in the future idea of yours??? hummmm? I’ll have to go watch some video of Luck…

    Well…. Here’s to losing!!!!!

    Go Orton!!!!!!!!!!uuum, woohoo….!

  35. sndvl says:

We will not suck enough for luck. Miami, Indy, St. Louis, Minnesota, KC and Cinncy (we hold the tie breaker over them already) will suck more. We might be up **it’s Crick without a paddle. We will, however not suck for luck. I see that honor going to Miami. Maybe Indy. Who might take that flier with Mannings career in it’s twilight.

  36. sndvl says:

We would have to mortgage the homestead to be in a position to get him. But, then again, 6 1st round picks in the last 3 years and only 1 of them appears to be the real VonDeal.

  37. sndvl says:

Oops. Posted before I was done.
Mortgaging the homestead may not be such a bad idea. Then again, our D line could use a guy that would put a Crick in any QBs neck…

  38. daddybronc says:

Bronco Royalty is right. Tebow looks just like Steve Young only more passionate and stronger, runs lower to the ground. I think Tebow is more disciplined and determined than Young as well.

The real question is will Gator fans cheer him in Denver, or someplace else?

  39. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

    New blog…

  41. daddybronc says:

    Stevecan2 – depends….

Tebow needs an offensive game package that is designed for him. Niners did that for Young.

Tebow is guaranteed to fail if they continue to throw him in on stupid plays like they did yesterday.

On the otherhand, if the O-line continues to improve like they did from week 3 to week 4, (I was really impressed with how well Matthews was shut out of the game) Tebow is going to do just fine in that kind of pocket.

If they give Tebow 1/2 a season under center and they have done a fair job of designing plays with his mobility in mind. I’ll join you in calling for Luck or whoever.

  42. jsizzla says:

I’ve thought of Steve Young similarities to Tebow since we drafted him. Only problem is Kyle Orton is not Joe Montana!

  43. stevecan2 says:

a little background about how I feel about tebow. I believe he should be our franchise qb, I believe in him that much. but if when he plays, if he drops the ball in an empty backfield, throws pick sixes because he never looks off his first read, under throws open receivers for picks, etc. I will not let him off the hook. those things are inexcusable at this level. I try very hard to stay with criticizing orton with the things that are already being held against tebow.s ability.
