Last week proved to be an incredibly meaningful journey for the community side of our organization as we started work on the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center, which will be a much needed expansion of our Denver Broncos Boys and Girls Club in Montbello. Our current Club is running over capacity and the teen center expansion will enable us to serve significantly more kids each day.
We are excited to share that the proceeds from this year’s Mike Shanahan Golf Classic (June 4th) will go toward the development of the Teen Center. We have also, in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, applied for a community improvement grant out of the City and County of Denver to be put toward the project. We find out in September if that comes through. In the meantime, we will be working with the teens at our Club and Jim Bershof of Oz Architecture Firm (by the way, Jim is donating his fee for the designs back to the project . . . .thank you, Jim, for such a gracious gesture!) to design the layout and make sure the new center fully suits the needs of the teen population.
Darrent Williams spent much of his childhood at the Boys and Girls Club in Fort Worth and devoted time here in Denver to the kids of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. It is thus so fitting for us to properly honor his memory by helping to advance the futures of the young people in Montbello in his name. We are absolutely thrilled to be part of such a legacy in the making…
