Oprah’s Big Give Lands at the Broncos Boys and Girls Club

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Happy Friday, Broncos Country.

We have learned some exciting news this week. Oprah Winfrey’s new show, The Big Give, will air a segment Sunday evening on the Denver Broncos Boys and Girls Club in Montbello.

Last year, Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler (along with teammate Tony Scheffler and former Broncos quarterback Preston Parsons) was contacted by one of The Big Give contestants who was challenged to spend some serious money in our community for worthy causes and people in need. Cutler took on the challenge and rallied his teammates to join him on a special delivery run to the Broncos Boys and Girls Club.

What was that special delivery about? Who actually benefited? Tune into The Big Give Sunday evening to find out. The segment will air on ABC at 8 p.m. MDT.

Have a great weekend in Broncos Country.

Drive For Life X — A Mile High Milestone

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Unbelievable to think that today is the 10th Annual Denver Broncos Community Blood Drive with Bonfils Center.  As of about 2:30, we have collected over 1,000 units of blood — each of them with the potential to save up to three lives in need.  What a great day!!!!

Our team once again has represented our organization with such class and professionalism — Louis Green, our resident early riser, was here at 7 a.m. welcoming the morning’s very first life-saving donors.  Shortly thereafter, donors saw the likes of Nick Ferguson, Brian Clark, Domenik Hixon, Nate Webster, Elvis Dumervil, Steve Cargile, Andre Hall, Antwon Burton, Mike Leach (who was pulling double duty today as he then went on to his monthly visit to the pediatric ward at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s . . .above and beyond) just to name a few.

Nate Jackson, Tony Scheffler, Chris Kuper and  Chris Meyers joined some of their teammates in the afternoon.  Nate, by the way, is going to help us with a special mural, the “All Ready” wall, at the new Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center by giving permission to have some of his wonderfully written tributes to Darrent scripted into the mural .  Thank you, Nate.

Champions in the Community . . . A Look Inside The Broncos’ Offseason Work

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Jay Cutler, Champ Bailey, John Lynch…just a few names of our players who have been extremely busy impacting the community during the offseason.

Jay Cutler launched his new foundation that will partner with United Way, supporting “Lights on After School” in Denver. Through his commitment, Jay has adopted Columbine and Wyatt Edison Elementary Schools and has visited with both schools regularly since his foundation was launched. The ultimate goal of his work is to keep kids safe, in school and reaching their dreams.

Champ Bailey has partnered with Vitamin Water to support a volunteerism campaign on behalf of the Denver Rescue Mission. In so doing, he has himself committed regular volunteer hours spent with kids at the Broncos Youth Center at The Crossing, a transitional housing facility of the Denver Rescue Mission for families in need.

John Lynch continues to advance the positive work of his foundation through regular recognition of outstanding student athletes and leaders in the metro Denver area and through his annual Salute to the Stars scholarship luncheon held at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
