Broncos Visit The Crossing

December 14th, 2011 - 10:36am by Stuart Zaas

Champ Bailey and several of his teammates dedicated their time to give back to the community with a visit to The Crossing, a transitional housing facility, on Tuesday evening.

The Crossing is a clean and safe residential community providing long-term rehabilitation and transitional housing to individuals and families who desire to achieve a life of self-sufficiency and community contribution.

Bailey, who has been involved with The Crossing since early in his Broncos career, brought along many of his Broncos teammates, including Rahim Moore, Demaryius Thomas, Marcus Thomas and Wesley Woodyard, to the annual holiday event.

Tenants of the Crossing enjoyed a traditional holiday dinner, gift bags and a chance to mingle with Broncos players, who happily signed autographs and posed for pictures with the families.

“A lot of things (drew me to The Crossing),” Bailey said at the event. “The first time I came here, I just liked the feel of it. I liked what they were doing with transitional homes for people trying to get back out on their feet.”

Bailey credited his grandmother for imparting the values of helping others on him as a child.

“It’s a positive message and I wanted to be a part of that,” Bailey said. “My grandma had to do with that – she took in a lot of people back in her time when she could. She didn’t have much, but she gave everyone what she had to make sure everybody was fine. I just wanted to be a part of something like that.”

The cause hit home for Demaryius Thomas, who looked back to his own experiences growing up.

“I just wanted to go meet them because when I was growing up as a little kid, I was moving around from home to home, but I was never in a home like this,” Thomas said. “When I was coming up as a kid, I just wish I had stuff like this and that people would come see me – like football players – get fed and get gifts like this. I was blessed to be in a home when I got into high school, but I like coming back to give support and to hang around with these kids.”

Thomas and the children at the facility hit it off while decorating gingerbread men after dinner. He tweeted about how much fun he was having with the kids along with this picture of his orange and blue colored gingerbread man:

Bailey said that he enjoyed taking the time to give back to those who are in need of some help to get back on their feet, especially around the holiday time.

“We’ve been blessed and what better way to give back than coming out here and spending time with these people and making sure they’re okay this time of the year,” Bailey said. “We’re fortunate (as football players) there are a lot more unfortunate people and the more we give back, the more people that have been fortunate in their lifetime, the better we’ll all be.”

    Broncos – 27
    Patriots – 21
New England gonna get whipped by a hot Denver Defense
and NE’s defense is gonna get Tebowed, hahaha :p

Get it done boys, this would be HUGE for us.
I believe in the craziness that is this Denver Broncos Team.

    GO BRONCOS 2011!!!!!!

It is great to see the team mates getting out in the community, especially at this time of year. GO BRONCOS!!!

07elway I’m with you. I’m watching the Pats vs redskins replay on NFL network right now and I see that we can beat up on these guys. We need to find solutions for Gronk, Welker and Hernandez but our pass rush may whoop up on Brady and not give him a chance. Love this matchup and I think we have a good chance to win it.

    Broncos 27
    Patsies 24

On the other hand, Schlereth sees us losing this one.

  5. strandoftds says:

N.E. gonna get Tebowed, classic 007Elway. LOL

  6. strandoftds says:

    Is it sunday yet?

Winning has been a great feeling. These games have been so exciting its hard not to be an addict.

Good on ya for the community service guys.

  8. savinghyrule says:

In the pic it looks like Champ has a finger injury…anyone know about that? Cool blog, love the things this team does off the field.

  9. RH709 says:

Now that we are at least in range, its hard not to think SB for Dawk and Champ. They really deserve one.
Keep inching closer every week. December is for christmas miricles after all.

This is a big test this week. I believe in the resolve of this team and think we have a shot.

I rewatched the Pats/Skins game last night. Pats look very vulnerable. They look incredibly beatable. If Broncos play Pats as well as Washington did – Broncos win. Wash. was on the goal line with time – INT!! Pats run out the clock. If Shanny didn’t highjack the choke machine outta CHI – Pats woulda lost.

I think this could be a break out game for Denver receivers. They have been feasting on that film all week. Wash. took advantage of open receivers in the back field throughout the game.

I also think that the Pats defensive front in underrated. Either that or Washingtons offensive front is real bad.

  11. daddybronc says:

I think Harris can handle Gronky.

  12. daddybronc says:

The problem with Gronk is not his pass catching ability. It’s his yards-after-catch. He doesn’t seem that fast. He isn’t a dancer, making people miss. He just runs powerful.

  13. daddybronc says:

I think Harris can’t keep Gronk to only a catch or two.

  14. louisianabroncofan says:

    Broncos 33
    Patriots 31

Our d is gonna be stout but our o will keep them on the field for too long and they may wear down because of that. Of course we will be able to do alot against their d as well but most of it will come late in the game. we should get about 250 yds rushing and tebow may actually get a 300 yd passing game. the patriots d is just not that good. and our o is just not that good. somethings gotta give there.

  15. seweatherman1 says:

What I honestly think everybody is doing in talking about the Patriots is that they are thinking of them of the team they used to be. This team is a lot different than they used to be. This team has qb Tom Brady, but that is really it. His supporting cast, i.e. the offense and defense, if not that good. This team is beatable, and I really believe that we can beat them. Sure, he has a couple of guys that can catch the ball, but the way I figure this is….if he can’t throw it, they can’t catch it.

  16. strandoftds says:

Shaztah, Answer from earlier blog: Free agency starts March 1 of every year and of course the draft in late April. But because of the lockout everything got flip flopped and turned upsidedown. Hope that helps.

  17. daddybronc says:

Anybody got the word on Goody. – Too early?

I have to play softball tonight, but I really want to see the game with Tebow on mic. Anybody know if the game plays alternate times? Maybe I can get it at First Row online.

  18. killerkod says:

man, this one is tough to make a score prediction on……….saving mine for a few more days……….I’m guaging off of what bay predicts…….I need to keep him off my behind!! haha

  19. seweatherman1 says:

I really would like to see us come out passing the ball with a no-huddle offense. That will keep their defense on the field rushing to get set before the next play and we burn them down quickly. If we get fortunate to score a couple of times on them really fast, we can pull this game out right from the start.

  20. daddybronc says:

Weatherman – from what I saw last night – you have them pegged.

Reminds me of little league when the guys were all bailing outta the box from fear of fast pitchers. Games are won and lost in the six inches between the ears. Good thing our QB is the greatest at playing that six inches between the ears.

  21. seweatherman1 says:

I’m not doing so well with score predictions every week, but my 11-5 season is still in play. We win this one I have a decent shot at this.

  22. savinghyrule says:

Yeah, if there was ever a game that we could benefit from starting early in, it’s this one. It would be really nice to go up 14 points early and force them to pass (it’s not like they love to run, but still) so we can turn up the heat on Brady all day long.

  23. daddybronc says:

I have the feeling that there has been a great deal of mental preparation around the pass catching this week. I think Deck – Royal (wishing it were Willis) and DMT are going to be on-fire and on their collective games. I expect Raider game type production.

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Always like to see Millionaires getting involved … when u are that rich its alot easier to give money than it is time. And while that is awesome … and i truly mean awesome … theres nothing like that personal feeling of physically doing something.

I really think we can beat the Patriots but I won’t be surprised if we lose … our secondary is not that good even with everyone healthy. And we are yet to play a guy of Bradies MVP, Multisuperbowl winning caliber. This guy can shred a defense … defenses way better than ours … on the upside we have a great pass rush which should help alot … but Brady has veteran poise … he wont get flustered in the pocket because he sees rush but once we start sacking and getting some hits …. im sure he will take more notice. No late hits please … Brady has his own special rule. We better not even touch or look at this guy wrong or we will lose the game because of personal foul penalties.

As improbable as it sounds … I see rahim moore being a factor this game if he plays.

    TRB

  25. savinghyrule says:

Imagine our WRs playing at their highest potential. Having Deck, DT and Willis all a huge threat would free up Eddie to stick to returning kicks.

  26. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    BRONCOS – 26
    PATRIOTS – 24

    Go Broncos!!! TRB out -

  27. daddybronc says:

I wouldn’t be surprised at some significant defensive production as well. I hoping that Moore – sniffs out more than one. Since he can’t seem to learn to tackle – that boy had better get some pick-six action or at least an INT.

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Definitely need royal for PR … especially since we don’t have vaughn … Cosby aint bad … but he is no Eddie ‘Casino’ Royal … kids money … when he aint droppig passes or hurt lmao. TRB

  29. seweatherman1 says:

    new blog

  30. strandoftds says:

More tackles come a defenders way than INT`s. He`s got to tackle better. I like Moore but he`s making big mistakes. I`m rooting for you RAHIM.

  31. daddybronc says:

I think Royal requires more room to run than Cosby. Royal is back there waving fair catch when the nearest opponent is 10-12 yards away. Cosby OTOH is going for it if he has a step.

I think that is what makes him look less productive – that and the fact it has been a while since he’s taken it to the house.

    Also – Royal seems fragile.

  32. ddk002 says:

BRONCOS 24-17. Lets turn up the volume a bit and force a couple of brady/rb turnovers!!!! i wanna see like 5 sacks on brady, that would make my week.

  33. buck484 says:

I love seeing our guys giving back and being so humble. As everyone knows I don’t think there is anybody in the league better than Champ. That said, I have little faith in Moore and Goody. That plays into Brady’s wheelhouse. I hope I am wrong but I just have to go with New England. New England 21 Broncos 13. Go Broncos Champ for President

  34. stephen_sholey says:

sorry to say…but this isnt the kinda blog we should be makin predictions…its ment to inform us bout things like the crossing…i live in idaho…and i help everychance i get with things like this…these guys are role-models and it means we all should be too…get out and help your communties lol :) having said tht
i hope bailey gets a pick!!! favorite player of all time!!!
