Be a Champion in the Community Week

June 10th, 2012 - 8:19am by Cindy Kellogg

June 9th marked the end of the first of what is anticipated to be an annual Be a Champion in the Community Week — a full week of roster-wide community service, while asking the community to get engaged as well.

Saturday’s service projects included four Habitat for Humanity home builds, led by the likes of two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year Wesley Woodyard, and featuring new home owners Frank and Shiane Wilson, who are Habitat ambassadors in the Broncos’ new “Be A Champion in the Community” campaign.

Players also made visits to partner HealthONE Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and to both locations of the Ronald McDonald House, spreading cheer and goodwill to patients and families.

Two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year Champ Bailey remained committed to the Denver Rescue Mission, serving meals alongside other Broncos players to residents of The Crossing and Lawrence Street Shelter.

Broncos players could be seen elsewhere in town bagging groceries at partner King Soopers and serving up orders at the McDonald’s drive-thru. Von Miller even gave fans special commemorative Broncos glasses to fans at Arby’s.

In addition, Ryan Clady was serving up some mean frostys at Wendy’s and that Demaryius Thomas was great with the crowds at Red Robin.

Before the day came to an end, Broncos Bunch members were treated to a Chris Kuper-led summer kickoff at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Also, youth football players honed their skills with Assistant Director of Pro Personnel Champ Kelly at his annual camp at All City Stadium in Denver.

Last but not least, Chipotle guests got a special treat with their burritos Saturday — warm hospitality served up by the Denver Broncos.

Looking forward to seeing you all next year, but in the mean time, we challenge Broncos Country, “What can you do to be a champion in our community?”

Preserving life and quality of life is always morally right…especially so for humanity. Any law or policy that violates principle #1 must be resisted.

  2. tlcat06 says:

DB… I cannot believe you called me stupid. I think that was totally uncalled for. I obviously do not agree with you, but that’s nothing new. You have tons of access to water, you’d just have to go the store. Just FYI, I don’t like being disrespected like that.

  3. DaddyBronc says:

Obviously -not wishing to gravitate into a political debate on death penalty – there is a time when life, and quality of life is forfeit. Forgetting to pay a bill doesn’t get us there! LOL

  4. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB no. They couldnt turn your water back on without the payment being processed by them. Its how it is. It is unjust that the rabbits would have died. But they have their policies and cant break them for you. Something you seem to not understand. Its really rather simple. Your not above their policies. Plain and simple.

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB you still are failing to understand. First they have their policies that they cant break. Im sure if you told them the situation things would be different but from my understanding you did not. So they do not know. You cant blame them for following their policy because they dont know you have rabbits who need that water. Then again they are rabbits and sorry to say it would be a completely different story if it was a person.

  6. DaddyBronc says:

I didn’t call you stupid – I said you could join that club!! LOL

I deeply and sincerely apologize – It was not my intention to disrespect – because I have lots of respect for both you and AB. And I truly do appreciate the fact that you take the time to discuss. If I come across the time when your logic convinces my of the error of my own – I will appreciate the discussion even more. I fully recognize my capacity to be flawed in logic and behavior.

  7. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB there really is no difference in calling us stupid straight up and saying we can join the club. What you said is calling us stupid without saying your stupid.

  8. DaddyBronc says:

Go back and read what happened AB – they have accepted payment. They haven’t even billed for the amount that they are not turning it back on for and that is the payment for the turn on service – (which by the way it is illegal in my state to bill for more than 10% of a service that has not been performed.)

  9. tlcat06 says:

Well, I am very intelligent so I don’t want to join the club. I’m out, I have a baseball game to go to.

The rabbits in Wyoming do just fine with a bowl of fresh water to drink so logically I think you’re blowing it way out of proportion … seeing as you can go to the store and purchase water.

  10. DaddyBronc says:

You can choose to take it that way or not but I don’t think either you or Cat is stupid – not at all! I don’t think that the workers at the DMV are genuinely mentally challenged either. I do think that people that put rules, policies, laws etc. over liberties, rights, and health and well being of people – have their brains operating on a level that I am not willing to travel on.

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB in your first process you say: I go online and pay the bill and then contact them to ask when they are going to turn it back on. They say I have to pay an additional $42 for them to come out and turn it back on. Fine – How do I do that? Can’t do that until they process my payment within 24 hours and then whenever the tech has time to get to it………….after payment???

Right there you say they cant do that until they process your payment which means that your payment hasnt gone through their system. You may have it paid and have a receipt # for it that you called them or something like that you said but the payment still has not been processed or gone through their system.

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB you said you can join the stupid club. Which is calling her stupid. Something must not be clicking in your brain if you dont realize that.

  13. alaskanbronco06 says:

    In your first “post”

  14. DaddyBronc says:

Rabbits have heart attacks – actually their hearts race and rupture when exposed to heat. A drink of water won’t do. we use Ice blocks and the rabbits can get in close proximity. That got me the time till I got the water on. But as happened this morning – I missed the fact that one of the females was ready to be bred – the males start fighting. The females always fight everything but their own offspring. And the little ones start fighting at about 4 months.

Regardless, the two year old with sweat running down her face – I’d go to jail to fix that!!!

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

DB Did you tell them that you have reasons to need to water as bad as you do?

  16. strandoftds82 says:

A heads up for all of us Broncoholics: the NFLN is going to be showing back to back games of the 1986 and 1987 AFC Championship games. Thats of course the DRIVE and the FUMBLE against the Browns back in the day. The Drive is on at 6:00 PM MNT. Enjoy yall!!

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Thanks strand!!!!

  18. strandoftds82 says:

Your welcome Alaska. Hey we`re Broncos fans, gotta get the word out.

  19. DaddyBronc says:

The bill payment was processed – in that they accepted the receipt – and verified the availability of funds. That was not an issue with me or the Water CO. It was the $42 that was in question and they wouldn’t allow me to hand them cash or check or credit card. They have to have it paid online or through the mail at their payment processing center in Arizona. Who knows how long that will take? I’m going to take a break here from this discussion to see if I can get it through now. But the problem is that they have not even billed me for the amount that they are demanding therefore the online process will not accept the funds.

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

I love watching both those games Strand. Since of course I wasnt around when they happened lol

  21. DaddyBronc says:

Yes – I got my blood pressure up trying to explain to the desk clerk what the need was and I couldn’t even get her to break away from her little mantras that she is used to speaking in in order to find out what could be done. I blew my stack a bit. That’s how the discussion got on the blog.

  22. DaddyBronc says:

    Thanks Strand!

  23. strandoftds82 says:

It seems like yesterday to me. Time flys, it really does. The funny thing is that the Browns QB Bernie Kosar is just 1 day older than I am. That could have been me playing QB for the Browns. LOL! I`m so glad it wasn`t though since I`d hate to play against my beloved Broncos. LOL again.

  24. strandoftds82 says:

    No problem DaddyBronc!

  25. DaddyBronc says:

Seems like yesterday to me too. I hope I can upgrade my personal copy of this tonight. That would be cool.

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

Well 85 is getting his wish….Dolphins are talking to him to get a contract done…..Thats what Tannehill needs LMAO

  27. strandoftds82 says:

DaddyBronc, that was inappropriate in saying that to Cat. Maybe some passive-aggressive there. You hurt her feelings. By the way, I do agree with you on the matter of what you did. Its a small matter that can be fixed. It might cost you a pretty penny, but oh well. Its kinda irrelevent I think.

  28. strandoftds82 says:

We`re getting up there in age Daddy. LOL

  29. DaddyBronc says:

So it turns out that they want $135 for there little wire tab thing that I yanked off. Now the question is – do I pay that in accordance with being willing to accept the consequences??? or do I fight them!!!

  30. strandoftds82 says:

Its strange calling you by your handle Daddy since we were both born only 2 weeks apart. Hey, we`re almost twins. LOL

  31. strandoftds82 says:

That little wire tab only cost approximately $3.00, the question in hand is the labor. Heck, tell them that you`ll install it for them and call it square. LOL

  32. DaddyBronc says:

    Dearest Cat,

Please forgive me. There is no excuse for my bad behavior on the blog and I won’t sit here and attempt to justify my actions. I do not think you are stupid and I never did, not for one second. I do not wish to offend, disrespect, or belittle in anyway though I have obviously done so…(thank you Strand for being a good prophet Nathan.)

I deeply and sincerely regret what I wrote – because I have lots of respect for both you and AB. And I truly do appreciate the fact that you take the time to discuss.

    God Bless,
    Daddy

  33. DaddyBronc says:

Funny thing is – even my own dad calls me Daddy most of the time!!! LOL

  34. strandoftds82 says:

    Good man!

  35. DaddyBronc says:

No – this is the penalty. I already paid for the labor and they accepted that payment now as well.

  36. strandoftds82 says:

    Thats totally hilarious!

  37. DaddyBronc says:

Having all those kids – it has become my identity.

  38. strandoftds82 says:

Daddy, I expect the same from you if I ever cross the line in disrespecting or attacking someone. Thats what brothers do huh?!

  39. strandoftds82 says:

Some day soon, your going to become a Gramps! LOL

  40. strandoftds82 says:

And instead of calling you DaddyBronc, we`ll be calling yo GrampaBronco. HaHa

  41. DaddyBronc says:

    You got it!

Never easy – but when I’m coaching or playing softball I’m especially always screwing up. I am not near as polished some times as even Tebow. What an amazing kid. I would have blown my stack a million times sooner than he does. Oh well – he gets to let it loose on the football field and I don’t – Haha

  42. strandoftds82 says:

Its time for the Drive!! Later Yall!!

  43. strandoftds82 says:

    good ole Timmy!!

  44. DaddyBronc says:

Can’t wait to change my handle to that. I’m hoping for over 100 grandkids. Since I’ll be well into my sixties by the time the youngest leaves my home – I gotta keep working on impressing my kids with the understanding of how important children are. LOL

  45. louisianabroncofan says:

cool. the drive. love to see that again! and db i’m glad you apologized to cat, she didnt deserve that. had you not apologized i’m pretty sure you and me would be arguing right now and i know you like a good ol spat. but i am one to say apologies should be excepted when offered sincerely. and i have no reason to think that wasnt sincere. so we’ll see if she excepts. she will i think. and i’m kinda with you on the water thing. around here you can cut those tags off and nothing happens cuz they cant make you pay for something they cant prove you did. so now they take the whole meter. being a plumber i deal with our water dept all the time and they are just plain bozos. they are charter members of that stupid club you were talking about. and i too woulda cut the tag off to save my animals. so i see no problems there as long as your willing to pay what needs to be paid and take whatever punishment is dealt. you should be fine. its just water. they’ll get over it.

  46. louisianabroncofan says:

hey strand whats goin on man? thanks for the tip i’m gonna watch both greatest games episodes.

  47. DaddyBronc says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if I need to give Cat some space and time. My wife needs either that or blood, when I offend. Again, sorry Cat. You too AB. Please accept apologies – if you can’t – I understand.

  48. DaddyBronc says:

So Lou – they actually can remove the entire meter?? If they did that I’d get to splice back into the service and get it for free right?

I actually am in a battle with the city since we moved in here. They made me remove my well pump and connect into city water and sewer. They waived the sewer because it was over 500 feet to get there. Now I find out that I could have kept the well and pump for everything except the house water. (- they feel the need to contaminate me with their fluoride and chlorine.) or I could have had the testing done to prove the purity of the well – but this was all handled through escrow. Now my landscape water bill is over $300 each month trying to get my landscape to the city standards. Why do I live here with all these crazy folk. I’m moving to Alaska to deregulate!!!

What to think about number 85!!! I think he’s gone much further than his reputation should have been able to take him. He still has that break away speed – but he’s always in the wrong place.

I love this game!! Elway looking good!!! When you can see him! Ha!

  50. louisianabroncofan says:

well is your well still doable? you can hook it back up and run your sprinkler feed to it. if it would save $300/mo it would be worth it. i’ve done that for customers plenty of times once they realize just how much it costs to water their yard. and a 500 ft distance for your sewer couldve been handled by a lift station. but i bet you’d rather not. but yes if you have a 1″ meter then you need 2 1-1/4″ pvc male adapters with a 10 3/4″ distance between the end of the threads. that will be the exact same thing as a meter there. if you have a 3/4″ meter then you need 1″ pvc males with a distance of 9″. thats standard everywhere i’m almost positive. then you have free water once they take the meter and they never come back and check. at least not here.
