Happy New Year Broncos Country!

My name is Chelsie, and this is my first season as a Denver Broncos Cheerleader! I am one of three girls on the team from Minnesota and I am loving this season. What better way to bring in the New Year than with a playoff game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on January 12th!?

During my first year on the team, there have been so many new opportunities I have experienced and memories I will never forget! One of my favorite things about being a Denver Broncos Cheerleader is being able to interact with the fans and make a difference in their lives!

I thought I would write my blog a little differently, and make it more of a Q&A! As a cheerleader, we are always asked so many questions about our job and what it’s like being a cheerleader. I have come up with a few questions that I have been asked most frequently from fans I have met at appearances and during games this season!

Q: Being a Denver Broncos Cheerleader, is the time commitment a full-time or part-time job?

A: As a DBC, it is a part-time job. Depending on the amount of appearances we are available for, it can definitely be more like a full-time job though. We practice twice a week, and arrive extra early on game days to rehearse on the field before the game. Outside of being a DBC, everyone on the team is either attending school or has a full-time job.

Q: Do we travel to away games?

A: The answer to that question is no. We do not travel to away games during the season. If we make it to the Super Bowl, we do get to travel to that game!

Q: How many girls are on the team?

A: There are 26 girls on the team.

Q: Do we have to try out every year to be on the team?

A: Yes! Every year, each girl on the team has to try out again. No one is guaranteed a spot on the team even if you have already been on the team previously! It can be very competitive, and that’s why being a Broncos Cheerleader is such an honor!

Q: How long and intense are tryouts each year?

A: Tryouts are usually a week long! Being my first year on the team, I thought tryouts were competitive and at times very intense! The hardest part about tryouts is that there are so many factors that go into your final score. We have to learn multiple dances, take a football test that we are required to pass, and there’s also an interview. At the end of the week, each score is calculated and the team is announced during a show that’s put on for friends and family to watch!

Q: Where do we practice for the games?

A: We are very lucky to have our own rehearsal room at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. We have a large room with a dance floor, and mirrors so we can watch ourselves practice!

Q: What is the best part about being a Denver Broncos Cheerleader?

A: There are way too many answers to this question so I will name a few of my favorites! First, I loved going to Mexico this year to take pictures for the 2012-2103 DBC calendar! We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go somewhere tropical, and I had an amazing time bonding with the girls on the team. Another thing I love about being a Broncos Cheerleader is interacting with the fans, and having a positive influence on their lives. We really do have the best fans in the NFL, and it wouldn’t be the same without your loyalty! Lastly, cheering during the games is definitely one of the best parts about being a DBC! I will never forget walking out of the tunnel for the first time and hearing the applause for the cheerleaders! We truly appreciate all of your support and dedication Broncos Country!
