Hey Broncos Country!
My name is Heather and this is my first season as a Denver Broncos Cheerleader. I am a native to Denver and have been a Broncos fan since birth! As a loyal Broncos fan, I can say that this isn’t exactly the football season I was hoping for. However, I have truly had the most memorable time as a rookie cheerleader, and I am sad that the season is about to come to an end.
With only four more games to go, an interim coach in position and a team that is playing solely for pride, I am anxious to see how the Broncos season will wrap up.
Unfortunately, playoffs are out of the question for our Denver Broncos this year, but many of us cheerleaders are still hoping OUR teams will go to the Super Bowl — the fantasy football Super Bowl that is!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard right — Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Fantasy Football. It has been an annual tradition for the cheerleaders to compete in their very own fantasy football league and this year was no exception. It is up to the individual cheerleader whether they would like to play or not, but being the competitor that I am, there was no way that I was going to pass up this opportunity.
For those of you who have never played Fantasy Football before, there is a Draft held at the beginning of the season to pick your team. Our DBC Draft was a lot more serious than I could have anticipated. Eighteen eager women (including our coaches and staff) packed into a room anxiously awaiting the fate of their 2010-2011 Fantasy Football team.
Some girls showed up with cheat sheets of their hopeful picks. Some had magazine articles of player rankings. Some were on their cellphones looking online, and others (like myself) were relying solely on their football player knowledge and gut instinct.
As someone who thought I would NEVER be in a fantasy football league, I have to admit that it has been a lot of fun. Since most of my Sundays were spent watching football anyways, it has been more exciting now to cheer not just for our Broncos, but different players throughout the league, all while competing with my fellow teammates. I highly recommend fantasy football to anyone!
Currently my team (Team H2) is in 5th place in our Denver Broncos Cheerleader League and the top 6 teams are competing in the first round of playoffs this weekend. If I can hang on and get 2 more wins, I will be competing in the fantasy football version of the Super Bowl in 3 weeks. I wish it was the Broncos heading to the Super Bowl, but until next year, wish me luck in the fantasy playoffs!
And to all you fantasy players out there GOOD LUCK!
Thank you Broncos Fans for your continued support and for tuning in to our weekly blog.
I wish everyone a very happy, healthy, holiday season and of course, GO BRONCOS!!
