Cheerleaders Reflect on Woodyard’s Toy Drive

December 14th, 2012 - 2:13pm by cheerleaders

Hi Broncos Country!

I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season so far. Despite the recent cold weather, this is most definitely my favorite time of the year!

My name is Kara and this is my second year as a DBC. This season has been so exciting and full of amazing memories so far. This past Monday night added to these memories as I was able to share being a part of an incredible cause with a few of my teammates. Wesley Woodyard hosted the Third Annual 16Ways Foundation’s Toy Drive. The event aimed to collect as many toys as possible that will be given to children that otherwise would not receive gifts on Christmas.

My teammate Lauren and I started off the evening by gathering the gifts that people were bringing in and placing them around the tree. It was amazing to see the overwhelming amount of support and generosity that people had in providing the toys. After about 15 minutes of organizing the gifts, one of the volunteers told me that the amount of toys was already double what was donated last year. Although I was not at the drive last year, this did not surprise me, as every time Lauren and I turned around, more and more people were coming in and handing us toys.

This is one of the very reasons why I love this time of the year so much. To experience and see the generosity that our community has is such a privilege and unbelievably humbling. It is a reminder of how gracious the Broncos fan base is, and I sincerely believe that Denver has the best fans in the NFL. Not only are you all so loyal to the team, but you continue to show your generosity and commitment to making Denver such a great place. I wish you all a safe and joyful holiday season! Go Broncos!

    **** OPfficial Score Predictionb ****

    Broncos 27
    Ravens 20

I picked this game as a loloss before the start of the season and was highly tempted to go that way with my prediction with Kuper amlost certainly not playing again. Ravens biggest challange for the Broncos is controlling Gnata (sp?) If he can dominate the middle (Quite possible with Ramirez starting) the run and pass game both will be greatly hindered. Hope that the offenbse is geared to just that. If not, it could be a bad day for the Broncos. Plus, Flacko is a totally different QB at home and the prospect of then loosding three in a row is not their norn.

    ALL HAIL THE NECK!!!!

    DON’t WRECK THE NECK!!!!

Maybe this is what the Mayans predicted. Not an asteroid or a solar flare but the loss of humanity among our species. Abuse greed murder of innocent men women and now children. Humanity as a whole no longer cherishes love family animals earth or lives of ourselves or others. Open your eyes. The end of the world has happened. Not with loss of everyone life but loss of who we are as a species and the morals that molded us.

That is a text that has spread up here. Just thought I’d share it with broncos country.

There are no words I can say to express how sad or heartbroken the tragedy makes me feel or even try to understand what the families of everyone involved must be feeling. My thoughts prayers and condolences go out to them all.

  4. oldsouthstander says:

Saddly, the centerpiece of faith in all religions is, one variation or another, do unto others, etc., etc. How sad that so few actually live it.

  5. tlcat06 says:

“There will be a day with no more tears
No more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day when the burdens of this place
Will be no more, we’ll see Jesus face to face
But until that day, we’ll hold on to you always”

    -Jeremy Camp

As a teacher… I cannot even imagine. Prayers with everyone who is affected by this tragic massacre.

  6. sndvl says:

I’d send a link to this blog post if somebody sent me that text…

It’s unfortunate that there are hundreds of story’s like the one above out there, but are instantly forgotten when news of tragedy occurs.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

One thing is becoming clear, we as a society are in deep trouble.

The escalation of senseless individual acts of violence is accelerating basically at the same rate of the supersonic speed at which our technology is growing.

    Too much technology too fast.

And we can’t cope with it simply because technology is now running our lives instead of us running technology. It has opened pandora’s box and out of it comes as much evil as good.

This hyperspeed super highway of internet travel has got people travelling in all sort of places they have never been taught how to deal with, and they fall into all the traps because they aren’t ready for it. It’s like a bad acid trip. No experience with the stuff and off the edge you can go.

Just the violent games young folks spend hours playing doing nothing but killing whatever or whoever is on the screen at the fastest rate possible so they can survive and kill some more is mind boggling. And those young kids have yet to grow up in any kind of way, shape or form. How can anyone be even surprised that some of them transfer that aggression to the real world.

Freedom was always the greatest asset of this country since it’s inception.

But that was in a mechanical world.

This is an information super highway world, big difference.

As long as in the name of freedom we allow as much unspeakable deadly information to be disseminated to the public as we do now, technology will be our undoing, as weird as it may seem.

For starter we need strict internet and game laws world wide, rated G or R or XXX doesn’t mean anything anymore since everyone can have access to it.

Mechanical world vs. High Tech world, the same rule don’t apply anymore, it shouldn’t be hard to figure that out.

Let’s hope for a big wake up call, but usually it’s just another tragedy instead…

    And that’s all my opinion.

  8. alaskanbronco06 says:

Bay did you really just blame video games for the kinda of stuff like today thats been happening? Wow. Thats just a silly thing to do.

Violent video games you can try to blame but fact is if they were at fault then why isnt there even more than there are? I know a few hundred people my age who have grown up on video games. I was. Not one of them ever felt the need to do something like today.

If you pay attention to all these mass shootings it comes down to mental health bullying depression rejection. If you can find one mass shooting were the killer said he did it because he felt more aggression from video games then I will take back what I just said. But there isnt. People try to blame that these games also glorify violence which isnt the case because like I said if people who played these games really felt that way then it would be happening more than it is.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

That’s your opinion, we all have one, that was mine and I respect yours but no need to try to change mine. I haven’t felt that way overnight.

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

I wasnt trying to change yours bay. I was stating mine and why I thought yours is just down right silly.

  11. sndvl says:

No sense in trying to make sense of a senseless act.

Honestly, I don’t think it really matters what a person has access to when they are intent on violence. Maybe the change needs to be made in our own personal level of awareness.

Sometimes people snap and there is nothing anybody can do to stop it.

  12. CARAMELLOO says:

Bullying today is no different than it was in the 80′s and 90′s. At least back then kids would fight with their fist if they had a problem with someone. I want to argue that it’s bc of a lack of male figures in these kids lives, but my grandmother raised me since I was 3 months old. I hung out with tough crowds, saw killings, drug exchanges etc. Never once was I apart of any of it. The reason is bc I had respect for my grandmother and elders.

Todays generation feel like they are OWED something. Bay has a point about the digital age. Look at all of the stuff that was censored back then but are easily said and displayed now on tv and in music. The musicians especially rap gas these kids heads up and make them think they are disrespected if they don’t get what they want. They also send a message that gun play is ok and the way to go.

  13. baylinorcrush says:

    And I didn’t call yours silly, interesting…

Anyhow you just talked video games, what about all the info available on the web about committing the perfect murder, like all the stuff the girl from Florida used to kill her 3 yr old daughter (forgot her name, good thing), which she walked from. My point was about the super highway technology of the world now and you missed the point, it’s totally out of control, 12 year old kids can open any site.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

    AND THEY ARE NOT READY!

    That’s the point.

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

Melloo I will disagree about bullying being the same. Whats said may be the same but it is how its said and how fast it spreads. THis goes to one thing I agree with about Bay. How digital the world has become. Back in the 80′s 90′s it was said to your face (mostly) and you knew who said it so you could fight back. Now its said via anonymous texts/emails and spreads much faster.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

But I’m an old fart, what do I know, thanks melloo for making me feel that I’m not a complete idiot, LOL.

  17. alaskanbronco06 says:

Bay I read your whole thing and I got it all. Its all about the technology and how its to blame. But you have a paragraph on video games and how they could be blamed. That is silly (to me) for the reasons I stated. Everything else you said I didnt have a disagreement with you about otherwise I wouldve said something.

The fact that people can go online and figure out how to kill “perfectly” or what guns can cause most damage. There are even websites where kids can learn to build their own bombs. Stuff like that does need to be stopped because when people do snap that just gives them easy access on how to do it “correctly”

  18. DaddyBronc says:

Certainly technology and the emphasis on ‘death’ and ‘violence’ from electronic media has its influence.

But people have always been violent and violence resides in the heart of mankind – (likely the ultimate reason we all love football)

    {I am intentionally avoiding the murder of the innocent because the I find the aborting of the pre-born equally appalling – there were hundreds who died from that today!}

Our president is likely to use today’s incident to attack gun ownership. I find this also, to be misplaced blame. Remove the guns and the next school tragedy will involve household chemical bombs, a gasoline explosion, or simply a vehicle. Any of these could easily kill more innocents…faster.

I would encourage all to use your own influence to keep the discussion on point and deal with the real culprit.

Technology while being a contributor…maybe…cannot be removed from our culture and therefore is not a constructive solution to the problem…well defined as a society in deep trouble!

    1. We need to be able to combat the glorification of death and violence with the equivalent idea that God said, “Thou shalt not commit murder.” (Repost the ten commandments in every school!~)
    2. The idea of school marshals in elementary schools is overdue – it seems to be working at the high school level.
    3. Metal detectors are good ideas as well.
    4. All parents who are able could be encouraged to home educate – it won’t prevent home invasions – but my children have never been bullied.

I’d love to hear real workable solutions that cure the evil in the heart of mankind as well as those that could control the improper use of weapons of all kinds.

  19. CARAMELLOO says:

The big thing is…. We have gained ways to communicate but we’ve lost our way of truly communicating with each other. Now when someone talks to you they are either face planted into their comp, cell phone, ipad, etc. Things do spread much faster bc we have craved instant this and instant that. Like bay said… Kids can’t keep up and us adults can’t even keep up half the time.

Hahaha bay you’re far from! I respect your intelligence bro!! My wife and I was laughing at X-factor the other night as I said…… Half of these music folks these days wouldn’t sniff a stage let alone be on one back in the day. Today’s music is more about looks aka sex appeal and then talent. I know some will argue but it’s true. Most bands, groups, artist these days don’t have staying power like back in the day.

You take the Bible out of public schools, you take in God We Trust off of the walls of Washington DC, you take the Fear of GOD out of a once GOD FEARING COUNTRY and the end result is the death of a once great nation that is no more. If the USA would not have taken GODS Statutes out of the CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES and abide by HIS WAYS, we’d be mightily blessed by HIS HAND! Thats my take on it!

  21. strandoftds82 says:

I’m all for playing a game of Astroids or Defender. How about Donkey Kong or Pac Man! Thats my idea of Video games. And lastly how about playing a game of Pinball!

  22. baylinorcrush says:

I made my constructive suggestions, worldwide restriction laws about games and internet sites, never said to stop technology.

As for the utopian how to cure the evil in the heart of mankind question I will leave you with that one. To be able to figure that out one needs at least as many doctorates as you have, LOL.

And I bet now that Obama doesn’t need to be re-elected, next on his agenda is gun control.

  23. CARAMELLOO says:

What’s more crazy is that they are giving us behind the scene access inside our military and stuff like that with various tv shows. I watched a 10 part episode on netflix last week on our various military groups. How they train etc. I’m thinking….. Why would you put something like this out for everyone to see?! Including people who hate our country. If people want behind the scene footage then maybe they should join the military for a up close and personal look.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

It’s out of control melloo. As I said we as a society are in deep trouble right now, and that would be worldwide. Maybe Obama can fix most of it? That’s why the majority elected him, he can do no wrong, haha.

  25. CARAMELLOO says:

Classic games strand! Also the memory game of ” simon says”.

  26. strandoftds82 says:

They take the guns of the people and the only ones who’ll have them are the criminals. Just look at Australia, their crime rate has sky rocket 300% since the guns have been taken from them. It’ll never happen in the USA, There will be a revolution before that ever happens with Ted Nugent leading the charge!!

  27. strandoftds82 says:

    Good stuff Melloo. LOL

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Melo while I see your point there are people (like myself) who are very proud of our military and like to see into their training regiments and all that. I knew a couple guys who would watch those kinda shows and train like that so they had a legs up when they went to basic.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

I think it’s more the case of who the people are, take the British, no guns, hardly ever hear of gun issues there, maybe it’s the music there…. Australian music, not so much, haha.

  30. CARAMELLOO says:

What’s crazy is….. My little 1 y/o Bronco and I were at the very crime scene here in Oregon an hour before the shooting happen. I had to leave so I could get him home in time for his nap. Thank god he’s still on a two nap schedule!

  31. strandoftds82 says:

    WOW Melloo! Whew!

  32. baylinorcrush says:

Well, now that I started a healthy discussion my job is done, gn you all.

  33. CARAMELLOO says:

    yeah it is stran!!

alaska I agree bc I enjoyed the shows as well. Found myself pulling for guys to make it through the training and I had never met them. I just wonder and sometimes fear they are showing the world a little too much.

Don’t they play that 80′s song down thunder constantly?!?! Hahaha

  34. alaskanbronco06 says:

WOW Melo!! Thank god you got away from there!

  35. CARAMELLOO says:

Same thing my wife said strand! She was still bothered by it yesterday and today only re hashed it

  36. tlcat06 says:

Do not tell a teacher in this day and age that bullying is the SAME as it was when I was a kid in the 90s. It is not. No where near. Not with social media involved. Kids are not the same as they used to be, even in the last 7 years that I’ve been teaching kids are different.

This is a parenting/bullying/depression/self esteem issue.

  37. tlcat06 says:

I agree with you strand… Taking God out of school has really had a devastating effect on this country.

  38. strandoftds82 says:

Its scary to alot of people. I have a lady friend who wants to go Christmas shopping after she gets off of work which is after dark some time next week, and she wants me to go with her because of all of these mass shootings. And she’s older than I. People are very afraid.

  39. strandoftds82 says:

    I knew you’d agree Ticat06. Totally obvious.

  40. strandoftds82 says:

Cat, I sent you an Email.

  41. DaddyBronc says:

yep – I just can’t figure out how to put God back into our education system when the teachers have no consensus of doctrine of God.

I think the culture is beyond all that. America is a war zone. My president wants to remove my ability not only to engage in the battle but also to remove my ability to defend myself and my family.

It is close to the time where we will be forced to choose sides.

No culture in the history of the world has ever reversed these types of trends. The historical solution is to prefer tyranny.

  42. strandoftds82 says:

And there’s no grey area in between. CHOOSE WHOM YOU WILL SERVE! AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD WE WILL CHOOSE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!

  43. DaddyBronc says:

A friend of mine was killed on his motorcycle this morning. He was a young man, just married seven months ago.

Can we just rewind and not do this day?

My solution is mass time travel!!!

  44. strandoftds82 says:

Daddy, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Such a sad day!

  45. strandoftds82 says:

I’m off to bed. Night all.

  46. DaddyBronc says:

Thanks Strand – we were not close, but the young couple worked for me in clubs. Today feels a bit like 9/11/01. Just sad!

  47. DaddyBronc says:

    http://www.signalscv.com/section/36/article/83567/

This is the story – His wife’s name is Samantha. Probably shouldn’t share my sadness…but – oh well. I work at comforting others. You folks are there for me whether you want to be or not.

    :)

  48. baylinorcrush says:

DB, heart wrenching to read the comments below that article, specially the ones posted by his young wife. From what I can gather this young man did everything right and all it took to end his life is someone else doing one single thing wrong. I bought a brand new KZ750 in 1978 at age 24 and drove it for years, I can totally identify with motorcycle/automobile issues and the auto is almost always at fault. Motorcyclist respect the road in general because they know their lives depend on it. On the other end folks in cars are non attentive a lot of the time because of the safety they feel in their vehicle. Not to mention all the phone calling and texting done in cars. Have you ever seen a motorcyclist do that? I rest my case. RIP to that 20 year old man, and condolences to you DB.

  49. OTbroncos says:

My condolences to everyone involved in the CT shootings, how awful.. I heard an interesting take on a possible explanation on why there have been so many horrific events involving young people lately, and thought I’d share it, as I know there are a few teachers here in Broncos Country.

Apparently teachers are more and more being evaluated on their student testing scores, which is used as more of a performance review for the teacher, rather than a true gauge on the student body. More and more money is going into these testing scores, and surrounding industries, and as a result there are less and less time and energy going into to after school programs, as these type of things are not being considered as heavily (or at all) when evaluating a teachers performance. I found this to make a lot of sense, and it seems like the systems priorities are not in order IMO.

  50. OTbroncos says:

I hope that didn’t sound like I’m blaming teachers, because I’m definitely NOT doing that at all.. I’ve always thought teachers should be better compensated, considering they help shape our future generations.
