Cheering for our Troops

November 20th, 2012 - 10:25am by cheerleaders

Hi Broncos Country! My name is Sam and this is my third season as a member of the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. It’s also my second season as an instructor for our Junior Denver Broncos Cheerleaders (JDBC) program. I wanted to share something very special with all of you about the way that our young cheerleaders (ages 6-14) are making waves of difference in the lives of others.

As you all may know, this past Sunday, November 18th, was a home game against the San Diego Chargers and an exciting victory! Not only did we continue our winning streak, but the Broncos have now secured a big lead in the AFC West. That’s Mile High Magic at its very best!

The game was also extremely important to our organization in another special way. Sunday was our Salute to Service game honoring all the men and women that have served and those who are currently serving our country both at home and overseas. The Denver Broncos are strong supporters of all the individuals that put their lives on the line to protect our country, and one way that our cheerleading team gives back is by holding an annual drive called Cheer for the Troops.

As a part of our Cheer for the Troops drive, we gather items that we can send to our troops overseas such as non-perishable foods, toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving equipment, soaps, books and magazines and other useful items. This drive will be actively collecting donations through December 10th.

Of course, serving overseas might mean having to sacrifice more than simple necessities like toiletries and other items which we may expect to use in our daily lives here in America. It can mean sacrificing things such as time spent with family and friends during the holidays. Last weekend, over 600 young girls who participate in our JDBC program opened up their hearts and creative geniuses to make very special, hand-written and homemade cards, letters, and posters to send to those who will be overseas and lands away from their loved ones during the upcoming holiday season.

Each card or letter consisted of heart-felt messages from our JDBC members wishing our troops Happy Holidays or just thanking them for all that they do for our country. One message said: “Thank you for protecting our freedom and for keeping us safe.” Another said: “Wishing you Happy Holidays and hope you enjoy your gifts.” While they might or might not realize what an impact they are making as individuals, each JDBC girl’s efforts and warm wishes will make a huge difference in the lives of those who serve in our military.

These values of community service and giving back, above all, are the things we strive to instill in our Junior Cheerleaders and to demonstrate in our own program on a daily basis. Dancing for stadiums with more than 75,000 fans and cheering our Broncos on to a victory is, of course, an important part of our job as Denver Broncos Cheerleaders; however, the act of giving back to our community and honoring those that do so much for our country is the biggest part of what our cheerleading program is all about. And I couldn’t be more proud to represent a team that does so much for so many and instills those same values in the young girls that look up to us as role models.

    Hey Gang!

Not very happy about McGahee being out………wishing him a speedy recovery! He’s been a true workhorse for this team.

Now Moreno will get his shot at getting back into the line up. I’ve never been much of a fan of his….cause he really hasn’t done anything to make me cheer for him. His TD celebration in that blow-out loss still irks me.

I’m just hoping that now that he’s faced a lot of adversity through injury and being a healthy scratch all season that he realizes this might be his only opportunity to show his worth to this roster and he makes the most of it. He’ll have fresh legs, that’s for sure. While I’m not holding my breath that he’ll have a break out game……..it’s all I can really hope for at this point. If he can help the team win, that’s all that matters.

And just think……..it looks like Brady Quinn will get the start for KC………….Von Doom are already licking thier chops. And so is the secondary cause we all know what Quinn is when he gets pressured…….A PIGSKIN DONOR! I can see a ton of turnovers by our D in the next game.

    GO BRONCOS!

Tell all involved, THANK YOU, for all the JDBC’s are doing to make a difference in our military life. It’s good to see all of you taking time to make a difference, even if it is just a smile…..Thanks Sam!

I just saw that Brandon Stokley has more TD catches than Miles Austin Dez Bryant Larry Fitzgerald Antonio Gates and Roddy White.

I couldn’t be happier with Stokely this season…….he’s clutch. Whenever we need a big third down conversion or a score, he always seems to be the guy. He’s just what PM needed in this O. Looks like he still has at least a couple good years left in him.
