Cheer for the Troops

November 23rd, 2010 - 3:19pm by cheerleaders

Hi Broncos Country,

With the spirit of Broncos Country and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday in mind, I’m excited to write about the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders’ fourth annual “Cheer for the Troops” charity drive.

From our Keeping Kids on Track event to DBC’s work with hospitals and charities here in Denver and abroad, I have loved seeing how much our team, fans, and community gives back. Your Denver Broncos Cheerleaders are now hosting their own charity effort and we need your help!

For those of you who missed my blog earlier this season, this is my rookie year as a cheerleader and I am loving every moment thus far. I have been hearing the wonderful success stories of DBC’s “Cheer for the Troops” charity in years past with over 70 boxes sent overseas last year! I hope we will surpass those efforts this year!

From my experiences this season on game days, I also have come to know firsthand the tremendous support our fans have for our troops. I am proud each time our crowd gives a massive Mile High Salute to the military members we are celebrating at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Denver Broncos have so many ways of honoring our military from the highly decorated veterans who present game balls to new Army members ceremoniously sworn in on the field. Deployed soldiers’ messages from overseas play on Thundervision sending love to family members at the game and we all cheer for the military fly-over’s at the end of our national anthem! (How incredible was the Stealth bomber at the Kansas City Game?!?)

I know Broncos Country appreciates what these soldiers do for us every day and now is the time to do a little something for them to show how thankful we are for them and their sacrifices. This week, I hope everyone ponders how many of the things we are so thankful for are tied to the work of our beloved troops overseas and brings in some items for our drive! I love this time of year when we can appreciate all of the things we are thankful for. I can’t wait to see the turnout of support from our fans in our charity effort supporting our deployed troops who are spending this holiday season away from family.

Here’s what we need:

We are collecting snack and hygiene items, packaging materials, and other holiday gifts in the Team Store at INVESCO through Dec. 1, to pack up and send over to our troops just in time for the holidays. This means individually packaged food items (chips, cookies, holiday candy, granola bars, tuna packets, gum, beef jerky, etc.) but PLEASE NO CANNED FOOD ITEMS. Our troops also need toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs, deodorant, shampoo, shaving equipment, rewetting eye drops, chapstick, lotion, etc. We ask that any donated antibacterial gel or mouthwash be non-alcohol-based. Zip lock bags and boxes of various sizes are very helpful, as well as packing tape. Books, magazines, DVD’s, puzzle books, and Broncos or holiday gear is always loved by the soldiers! Of course, personal letters and words of encouragement, which don’t cost a thing, are often the most treasured donations.

So please support your Denver Broncos Cheerleaders in supporting our troops who are deployed overseas. We already have a few boxes in our locker room filled with supplies for our troops, and I know with help from our fans we can have boxes overflowing by our December 1st deadline!

For any additional questions or if you would like to host a donation box at your business you may contact Allyson at Allyson.Daniels@broncos.nfl.net.

So we look forward to seeing you at Sunday’s 2:15 p.m. kickoff ready to support the Denver Broncos in their matchup against the St. Louis Rams and don’t forget to bring some items to drop off at the Team Store for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders’ “Cheer for the Troops” charity drive!

I hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving as well!

Thanks for reading,

Margaret

Thank you for supporting our troops, you ladies are amazing and do so many great things. I hope your collections go great. I apologize for the slow response to your blog, I’m afraid with the loss Monday night everyone is too busy talking about it on the other blogs. Have great Thanks Giving ladies!
