A Memorable Debut

Margaret

Hi there, Broncos Fans!

So most of us are aware that last Saturday’s match up against the Detroit Lions marked the Broncos’ first home game this season at INVESCO Field.  What you may not know, however, is that it was also the cheerleaders’ debut performing as a team and my first game ever as a Denver Broncos Cheerleader!

My name is Margaret and like 10 other girls on the team, this is my rookie year as a Denver Broncos Cheerleader.  I am so excited after my first game to now have the opportunity to give you fans a little insight into what it is like for us on game day down on the field cheering on our beloved Broncos!

If you haven’t had a chance to read Jessica’s blog from last week be sure to do so because she illustrates perfectly how I would also describe my exciting interactions with you fans while cheering in Broncos Country.  I have met  many wonderful fans at promotions and charity events, but after experiencing our crowd on game day and performing  for the first time for our fans, all I can say is that if this is what pre-season is like I cannot wait for what regular season has in store!  Our fans are amazing!

On Saturday, our day began at 2 p.m. when we arrived for our final rehearsal on the field before the game.  We had been working hard preparing for the season since May, so we knew that in just a few more hours it would be our first chance to bring everything we had learned from summer rehearsals and put on a great show for our fans.  So, man, did we rehearse hard before the game!

We then headed to our locker room to get ready.  Many girls had promotional appearances before the game, and I would like to thank all of our sponsors for all of their support on game day and throughout the season. We could not do it without you!  Once ready, we circled up, said a prayer, and listened to our veterans and coaches as they reminded us to take in and enjoy this whole experience, have fun with the fans, and remember our troops who are not able to be here with us but are certainly watching overseas!  Then we headed out to the field.

Before walking through our entrance onto the field the excitement pumped through me like I had never experienced.  I could hear the crowd already cheering, and as soon as I walked onto the field I was greeted with smiles, high fives, waves, lots of cheers, and people dancing along with me.  It was wonderful being so close to all of you and seeing your excitement for the game.  Everywhere I looked I saw Tebow jerseys, handmade signs and people with face or body paint in nearly every section!  As we circled around the field to get in position for our first dance I looked up into the section in which I knew my family was sitting.  I could see my brother standing up waving his arms to make sure I could see him, and getting to wave back at him from the field was an elating experience I will always treasure.  We then performed with the Stampede. Hope you enjoyed the throwback to the older fight song!

Next, we lined up in the tunnel for the players’ introduction, and the excitement only grew.  Now the team was behind us also getting amped up and as I looked over my shoulder, Josh McDaniels rushed by.  I thought “Wow, this is it,” and marched out to introduce the team to Denver.  When Brian Dawkins came running through the tunnel, I couldn’t believe my eyes!

That was only the beginning. When Thunder delivered the game ball, I loved getting to see the fans’ overwhelmed response.  When the National Anthem was sung, I appreciated the respect our fans showed to our nation and flag by removing their hats and placing their hand over their hearts.  When we launched footballs into the crowd, I loved seeing the fans get excited and out of your seats to get one.  When we performed our side line routines, touchdown dance, and quarter break routines, I relished dancing for all 68,000-plus fans and hearing your support as we walked nearby afterwards.

But most of all, even though our Broncos weren’t winning, I LOVED seeing you fans cheer!  This is Broncos Country and I am so honored to get to be a part of it as a cheerleader!

So I hope you enjoyed our first performances and I look forward to dancing for you again soon.  Be sure to check us out on our Facebook page and leave us a comment if you liked what you saw on Saturday!   GO BRONCOS!

Till next time,

Margaret
