A Cheerleader’s Game Day

October 6th, 2008 - 10:34pm by Romi Bean

Hello Broncos Fans!! My name is Romi Bean, and this is my fourth season as a Denver Broncos Cheerleader. I have to say that I enjoy it more and more each year! This year, there will be three cheerleaders rotating on this blog, so we can give you variety and different perspectives. Thanks to the extensive media coverage, it is easy for our fans to be involved and aware of the news, highlights, and rigorous practices of our Denver Broncos football team. Through the daily news, Jay Cutler Live, post game recaps and broadcasts and of course, the exciting Sunday match-ups, we can all keep our “Broncos I.Q.” very high.

In the spirit of boosting our “Broncos I.Q.” even higher, I thought I would talk about some of the aspects of being a cheerleader for the Denver Broncos. Connecting with our fans is of utmost importance to us, and hopefully you will all get to know us a little better by the end of this blog!

Just like the players, we have a very intense game day schedule that keeps us on our toes and demands our full energy all day long. Before we set foot on the field at 2:05, we have a field rehearsal four hours prior to game time. As a cheerleader, timeliness is essential – and we all tend to follow the old saying “if you are early, you are on time, and if you are on time, you are late!” This means we all arrive at the stadium about five hours before the game so we can stretch, unpack our bags, and practice on our own before field rehearsal. During field rehearsal, we run through all of the dance routines that we will be performing that day. Our Director and Director of Game Day Entertainment, Teresa Shear, and choreographer, Shelly Trujillo, expect our routines to be flawless at this point – this means no memory mistakes, strong technique, and performances that are energetic and powerful. We have approximately one hour to perform all of our routines and need to be off the field by 11.00; at this point many players from the opposing team head onto the field to practice their “routines” for the upcoming game.

Following field rehearsal we head into our locker room to eat lunch and get ready for promotional events that are held throughout the stadium before the game begins. Around 12:30, Shelly rounds up the ladies and off we go to our promotions! If you go to the games, this is a great time to come and meet some of us and get some autographs as well! You can find us in the team store, the Budweiser Champions Club, the East and West Clubs, the Broncos Barn, and various other spots. Of all the pre-game promotions, the Broncos Barn is my personal favorite, because we get to meet so many excited and energized fans. Everyone has face paintings, awesome jerseys, and that Mile High Spirit which makes you the best fans in the NFL!! At the Barn, we sign autographs and then perform two dances for the tailgaters – it’s “sneak peek” of some of the dances we will be performing during the game. If you get a chance, definitely come to the Broncos Barn before the season ends – you will love it!

After our pre-game promotions, we rush back to the locker room to make sure we are 100% ready for the game, and before we know it, we are on the field welcoming our 2008 Denver Broncos! The three or four hours of game time are exhilarating, exciting and absolutely breathtaking – to explain all the details definitely requires another blog entry, so stay tuned for more and more as the season progresses!! I can’t wait to get to know our Broncos fans better through this bog, and I look forward to your comments! Have a great week, and GO BRONCOS!!

One more thing – we are 4-1!!

Another cool addition to Bronco blogger nation! We don’t really have cheerleaders in English sports, so it should be interesting for me to read about the rigors of being a cheerleader.

  2. Big Wes says:

All I wanted to say was that you are VERY sexy Romi!!

    Hi Romi,

It’s so good to see that you and Alex have started blogging this year. I try to keep up on all of the Bronco blogs some. They are all good, but what’s great about the cheerleaders blogs is that we pretty much always get an answer - and that really means a lot.

I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of you in person and I’ve mentioned (every chance I get) that I think you are such great role models for young girls in the community. You show more than just beauty and talent - you show commitment to so many great charitable causes around the community. And I know some of you have gone overseas to entertain our troops. This means so much to all of us and I can only imagine how much it must mean to the troops.

Thanks for telling us about the pre-game opportunities to meet some of you. If I’m not mistaken, the “barn” is open to any fan - for a nominal admission fee? How about the clubs? I’m guessing they may have some membership requirements to get in?

Also I was wondering if there are any chances for fans to get pictures taken with you and your teammates - or perhaps that may be too problematic when you’re all seated behind a table trying to sign calendars?

Well, that’s probably all the questions I should ask for one visit. Looking forward to hearing back from you - and thanks for taking the time to blog with us.

    Don

    Romi,

I don’t know who invented the idea of cheerleaders but thank God (which happens to be a Bronco fan) we got all the talented and drop dead beautiful ones.

I mean for God Sakes, have you seen a Raider or Charger Cheerleader? You know what a Raider/Charger cheerleader and a Semi truck have in common?

They both use truck scales…..WEEEEEE! now that was funny :)
No seriously I’ll be nice…..no I won’t…I have one more venting session then I’ll let ya go….Who in God’s creation decided that the Dallas Cowhags get a CMT special about their squad?

Romi, you and the girls keep rock’n it out! You all are an extremely talented group of ladies and as a DIE HARD FROM THE MIDWEST (where cow tipping or chief cheerleader tipping is a sport) LOVE YA!

    GO GET EM’ GIRLS!

  6. BroncoBoy1993 says:

    True big wes, very true.

  7. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Yes, Romi, you’re a beautiful woman, as are all of our cheerleaders. It’s only fitting that we have the NFL’s sexiest cheerleaders as we are among the NFL’s best teams. Let’s win #400 in franchise history against the Jags!

  8. outoftowner says:

Thanks for the informative blog Romi.

Can I ask you a Question?

Why are there still a few NFL teams out there with no cheerleaders???

  9. Broncofanatic83 says:

    Romi,

First of all let me say you are very beautiful woman. You do a great job, and there are no cheerleaders better than ours.

    Hi Romi
It is always a pleasure to see you and all the cheerleaders. You all work so hard and it shows in your routines. - Esther

Thanks for reading my blog and for all the great comments! Well Outoftowner, if you can believe it, there are still six NFL teams that do not have cheerleading squads! The teams are: the Packers, Lions, Bears, Browns, Giants, and Steelers. I’m not sure exactly why these teams don’t have cheerleading teams - but we can take some guesses! Three of the teams (Packers, Lions, and Bears) are all in the NFC North - so maybe they decided as a division (excluding the Vikings) to not have cheerleaders?! Just kidding!

Well it is definitely a question for us to ponder on… but interestingly enough, both the Packers and the Steelers had cheerleaders in the 1960s, and I believe the Bears had cheerleaders in the 1970s too.

Hi Don! Thanks for your response! To answer your question about the Broncos Barn - it is outside the front of the stadium in parking lot B, right by the team store. The cost of entry is $8 per game - but it is definitely worth it! There are cheerleaders, alumni, a live band, and all sorts of fun tailgating events. Let me know if you attend one this season and what you think of it! As for the club levels, you do have to have a club level ticket, but you can definitely find us at all of the other locations every game day! And if you catch any of us at promotions before the game, you can absolutely take some photos with us! Thanks for writing and have a great week!

  13. romi_bean says:

Hello pacohlgs78! What a creative username! The Jay Cutler Live Show is awesome! It is every Monday night at 6:30 (unless we play on Monday Night Football, in which case it will be held on the Tuesday of that week). The show is taped live at the Old Chicago restaurant in Littleton, on the corner of Broadway and Mineral. If you get a chance, you should definitely try to attend one. Jay and Vic Lombardi co-host the show, and every week they have a different guest player who speaks on the game and other aspects of the team. It is a great way to recap the game from Sunday and learn about different players on the team!
