Broncos vs. Chiefs: Quotables

December 30th, 2012 - 7:02pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

HEAD COACH JOHN FOX

On what it means to be the No. 1 seed
“Well, that means we are the No. 1 seed. We get a week off, which is nice. We got a lot of things to work on and we will take full advantage of that this next week. We will find out who we play officially at the end of the week. We will have it narrowed down starting tomorrow, and so we will start working on whoever it may be. We start this second season, tournament, playoff season, whatever you want to call it. You know, they had people picked to win last year and it didn’t work out that way. So it doesn’t change much when they start doing playoff seedings in my experience.”

On his 100th victory
“Yeah, I think any time you can reach any kind of pinnacle in anything. Our owner thought I was a hundred years old, and I said no just a hundred wins. No, I’m teasing. It is an accomplishment but it’s something of a lot of people’s work. It wasn’t one guy. I have a great staff. I have been with great players and it is a proud mark. I think three more would make it even better. This playoff year, I don’t want to say this year because it is ambiguous, but the next three games.”

On the running game today
“Yeah, we started emphasizing that about a month ago. We put our guys in pads and challenged them, they responded. You know when you get to this time of year, there is a certain mental toughness it takes and you could run into weather and just to close a game, all the situational things we worked on, you need that. We are a work in progress; we are not a finished product by any stretch. But I think we have gotten better over the last month.”

On Friday, Head Coach John Fox announced the team’s final injury report before Sunday’s game against Kansas City. It was revealed that guard Chris Kuper (ankle) is questionable for Sunday. Fox said Kuper has made steady progress since suffering an ankle injury.

“I think he’s making good headway,” Fox said. “He’s healthier. He practiced for the first time yesterday and then today. I think he’s making good progress. He’s been out for a little bit. We’re just going to make sure he’s ready to play football and we’ll make that decision day to day.”

Covering All Their Bases

December 27th, 2012 - 5:15pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

The Broncos’ 2012 season has seen the team pile up 12 victories in a number of different ways.

From the furious 21-point comeback win in San Diego that jumpstarted the team’s 10-game winning streak to comfortable victories, Denver has shown the ability to win under various circumstances.

But through it all, one type of win that has eluded the Broncos has been that of the last-second variety. While the team has been pleased that it hasn’t needed dramatic rallies in the closing minutes, it believes experience in such scenarios would be valuable. That’s why Denver does as much as possible in practice to prepare itself for anything that might come its way. But it’s something that Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy admits is difficult to achieve on the practice field.

Elway Talks Pro Bowl

December 26th, 2012 - 6:15pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

Chris Hall of DenverBroncos.com sat down with Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway for the latest episode of Elway Access on Wednesday afternoon.

The week of preparation for Sunday’s Week 17 finale against AFC West rival Kansas City was briefly interrupted for a celebration of Wednesday’s news that a handful of Broncos have been named to the Pro Bowl. Quarterback Peyton Manning, cornerback Champ Bailey and linebacker Von Miller were named starters on the AFC all-star team, which will participate in the 2013 Pro Bowl on Jan. 27. In addition to the three starters, tackle Ryan Clady and defensive end Elvis Dumervil also made the team. Wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, guards Zane Beadles and Chris Kuper, punter Britton Colquitt and special-teamer David Bruton were named alternates.

Manning Still Eyeing Improvements

December 20th, 2012 - 8:51am by Tyler EverettOther posts by

For quarterback Peyton Manning, an 11-3 record and a nine-game winning streak don’t mean the Broncos have arrived.

Each week, Denver has prided itself on focusing on one thing and one thing only – the next team on the schedule. With New England’s loss to San Francisco Sunday night, the Broncos can secure the No. 2 seed – and an all-important first-round bye – by winning out. That won’t change the way the team approaches Sunday’s game against a Cleveland Browns team that has won three of its last four.

Hester Makes Impact in Broncos Debut

December 19th, 2012 - 11:55am by Tyler EverettOther posts by

Fullback Jacob Hester has been with the Broncos since Nov. 26, when Denver signed the former Charger to help fill a void in the backfield left by an injury to running back Willis McGahee.

But he didn’t suit up for his first game as a Bronco until Sunday’s win over the Ravens. Hester said he was happy to be back in the mix for his long-anticipated first taste of live action in 2012.

“I felt really good,” Hester said. “I was inactive the first couple of games so I could try to learn and do that kind of stuff. But yesterday I felt comfortable out there. It felt good to get hit a little bit and get your first hits in. I’m glad to be here and glad to be a part of this team.”
