Before he returned to the NFL as offensive coordinator with the Chiefs in 2008 and later took over as the Buffalo Bills head coach in 2010, Chan Gailey spent six years as the head coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Gailey might have a few flashbacks to those college coaching days this week, as he prepares the Bills to play a Saturday game against a Denver offense that’s integrated the option to its attack.
In a conference call Tuesday, Gailey was asked to recall if he ever thought the option could work at the professional level when he coached in college.
“I thought this: I thought the first team that had guts enough to try it, it was going to work for about two years, and then defensive coaches in the NFL would catch up to it a little bit. Then it would be a struggle,” Gailey said.

After a 41-23 loss to the New England Patriots, the Broncos’ attention has immediately turned to preparation for Buffalo on a short week.
Denver and Buffalo will meet Saturday, condensing the Broncos’ weekly schedule.
Yesterday’s defeat vs. the Patriots stung a team that had previously won six straight, but Head Coach John Fox is confident his team will put it behind them with two crucial weeks left in the regular season.
“Immediately after the game, obviously disappointment,” Fox said Monday of the mood in the locker room. “I didn’t think we played as well as we’re capable of and I think our opponent had a little bit to do with it. In this league you’ve got to have a short memory and we need to forget about it and move on to Buffalo.”
Here is the Broncos’ Week 15 injury report.
David Bruton — Achilles (Questionable)
Andre’ Goodman — Concussion (Questionable)
Brian Dawkins — Neck (Questionable)
Spencer Larsen — Hamstring (Probable)
Eddie Royal — Concussion (Probable)
Von Miller — Thumb (Probable)

Tim Tebow and the Broncos have surprised a lot of people with their six-game win streak and subsequent surge to the top of the AFC West standings.
Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick isn’t one of them.
“We’ve seen Tim perform well many, many times, so I don’t think it’s a surprise,” Belichick said of Tebow’s success in a conference call. “He’s a good football player. He knows how to win, and he takes care of the ball. He makes good decisions.”
Belichick has known Tebow since his collegiate days at Florida and in 2010 he brought Tebow to New England for a pre-draft visit to get to know the quarterback even better.
Now he’s preparing his team to play against Tebow and the streaking Broncos.
