4-3 Defense as base “D”

February 18th, 2011 - 8:36am by mark_cooperOther posts by

O.K. 4-3 as the base DEFENSE and Coach Fox mentioned probably using some other defensive fronts mixed in from time to time……….. I LIKE IT!! There’s a number of variations of the 4-3 which are called overs and unders and then you have the twists that go with it. A defense based on stopping the run and having the abilty to drop guys from time to time into coverage too.

What I like is you have multiple options with the blitz with 3 LB’s close to the line of scrimmage to mix up the looks and walk guys up and drop them easier.

What do you guys/gals think? And here to you fit our guys and possible draft picks in?? Been seeing a lot of draft speculation.

GO BRONCOS!!

CBA Update

February 15th, 2011 - 12:10pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

I like you all try to stay updated on the CBA, so I’ll share what I receive from Fourth and Goal. We’re all starting to get the details of what the main issues are going to come down to….but there are usually a few twists and I don’t profess to have all the answers.

ESPN.com Feb. 14, 2011
WASHINGTON — The NFL filed an unfair labor practice charge against its players’ union with the National Labor Relations Board on Monday.

The league’s filing says the union “consistently has failed to confer in good faith” during negotiations for a new contract and the union’s “conduct amounts to surface bargaining and an anticipatory refusal to bargain.”

A statement e-mailed to The Associated Press by union spokesman George Atallah says the NFL’s “claim has absolutely no merit.”

Future Of The League
The NLRB is a federal agency that enforces the nation’s labor laws and referees labor-management disputes.
The current collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of the day March 3. The NFL Players Association has said it expects the owners to lock out players; the NFL’s filing with the NLRB says that the union wants to “run out the clock” and, essentially, avoid reaching a new CBA so it can decertify and file an antitrust lawsuit. Players already have voted, team by team, to authorize decertifying their union if a new CBA isn’t reached by the deadline.

Superbowl XLV, Draft, CBA, QB’s

February 8th, 2011 - 1:03pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

Well looked like a we had a few more Packers fans than Steelers fans on the blog (smart folks) and I ate some crow after the game. My wife was a Packer Backer and yea, heard it all the way home as my two boys giggled at me. They picked the Steelers too, so Mom was right….this time. :o )

Caramelloo, agree with your post in the prior blog and you all know the drill, the Broncos management has to keep things on an even keel and keep everyones stock as high as possible to keep the highest perceived value as possible…….don’t blame them if you want to get the highest pick possible for a trade regardless of who it is.

The CBA, again, same drill..blah, blah, blah and then they get together and “I THINK” they will hammer something out. The games at the top of it’s public awareness and popularity right now and the worse thing for all parties is to have a lockout or go into a scab-season, etc. So, I like you hope it’s all lip-service. There’s plenty of dollars to go around and I agree with a number of issues on both sides.

You have to have a rookie salary cap with the run-a-way dollars the owners are paying or UNPROVEN talent…seriously. Sorry fellas but having a good college career is meaningless in the NFL and the owners shouldn’t have to pay for it. I also agree that the prior players should have better benefits since they helped make the game what it is today. It’s a violent sport and some will say then don’t play….yea right.

Guys that say that, never had a chance to play, kinda like the talking heads in the media that never played at any level. Anyway, doesn’t make sense to get into all the items until we know what the major items will end up being that can or can’t be agreed on becuae it’s really just a waste of time. Kind of like speculating on a QB’s abilities until they have played. :O)

What do you all think and CONGRATS to all you Packer pickers……you won!!

Who’s your pick?

February 1st, 2011 - 3:49pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

Was at a Charity Celebrity event this weekend in Melbourne, Florida. Tim Wakefield, the knuckleballer for the Red Sox has a golf tournament that raises money for the Space Coast Early Intervention Center that helps kids that have special needs. Incredible event. Tim also won the Roberto Clemente award and had a community Service award named after him in Boston. Way to go Tim.

Pretty cool that he and other athletes do so much in a community. Wish I saw more of it from current players and I challenge guys to find a cause and make a difference.

Now, WHO YOU ALL PICKING FOR THE SUPER BOWL?

I got the Steelers, yep AFC guy at heart……what about you??

Welcome John Fox, your new Head Coach!!

January 13th, 2011 - 4:05pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

This never went up yesterday so I’ll leave it up and change what I now said at the end of this post. I’M EXCITED BY EVERYTHING I’VE NOW READ!!! STAY TUNED FOR THE PRESS CONFERENCE AT NOON TODAY

Yesterday: For lack of getting out there and doing a whole lot of research I’m reposting the press release at the team site and then we’ll comment at the bottom about Mac and Doog’s radio show I was on today and some text messages I’ve received from around the country.

Elway Era!!

January 5th, 2011 - 2:23pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

Great interview today. Waited to post until I heard the interview. If you didn’t, find it on KOA or other sites and see what you think. (DenverBroncos.com will have the video and audio of the press conference on the site shortly.)

Sixteen years in the league and some tough years are “experiences” you can’t read about and/or understand if you haven’t lived it. I was there for four of John and had another three of my own in Tampa with losing seasons, but 16 years and all he accomplished speaks for itself, so I’m excited for the organization, Mr. Bowlen and the fans.

John’s a winner, a leader, a smart guy, and like I mentioned before the MOST fierce competitor I ever played with in my “ENTIRE” sports career and I played with Kelly, Testaverde, Joe Ferguson, Steve Deberg and Bernie Kosar was a redshirt at Miami when I as a senior. You know it when you see it and you know by what a guy does on and off the field. Leadership and respect are earned, not a given.

Tebow and Elway

January 2nd, 2011 - 5:44pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

Valuable experience for TT and with what is being rumored it could get interesting. See here about Elway rumored to have agreed to a VP position.

Like Kubiak said, anything John does, he’ll bring success, especially with this team.

December 19th, 2010 - 9:22pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

CONGRATS on your first start Tim. I loved playing in Oakland. It was a great place to compete. Like I mentioned last week, kind of a cross between a Halloween party on steroids and a biker convention.

Tebow time!!! The blogosphere here has been waiting for you to start, so I am not going to keep them waiting. I’m going to leave this one WIDE-OPEN for the fans comments!!!

You have finally received what you have been asking for since the day Tim Tebow was drafted. Let’s hear it!!!
