Finally, Some Time Off…

August 7th, 2007 - 12:32pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

It’s been a boring week. I guess not really boring, boring’s not the word. It’s like Groundhog Day, if anybody remembers that movie. Every day is the same.

We’ve been very fortunate. We have a veteran team, and coach recognizes that. When we work hard he gives us ample time off, so I would say this is a “smart” camp. Really productive, and at the same time we’re not pounding each other into the ground.

But when we go out there it’s full speed, so the fans who are here get to see that it’s a lot of contact, a lot of action, and everybody’s going full speed.  And when we do that we get some time off.

Training Camp Begins

Where do we start?

I want to address my friend TerpsFan. First of all, go Terps. Just wondering what class we had together back in the day. Tell me a little about yourself.

I guess we can get right down to what people really care about: the start of camp. It’s camp. Everybody has things in their job that are not quite their favorite. This is the toughest time of the year for coaches and players, and our day starts at about 7:30. That’s what time I get up.

I normally go to bed around 10, get home around 9:30, so it’s a pretty long day we spend over here. It’s not always a lot of fun, but the great thing is you get to spend a lot of time with your teammates. It’s when you start to build that team bond.

Fundraisers and Outdoor Fun, With Camp Around the Corner

July 24th, 2007 - 9:31am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

I had a busy week, actually. I went to the Museum of Nature and Science to see the Titanic exhibit, which was pretty cool. I’m going to Titanic on the Terrace this coming Wednesday, which is a fundraiser for the museum. Everyone gets dressed up and hangs out as if they were on the Titanic, I guess. I imagine as a black man on the Titanic I should probably put on some sort of help attire, but I refuse to. I’m going to pretend like things were fair back then and wear a suit.

I went white water rafting up on Clear Creek with Mile Hi Rafting — the same ATV people. It was a good time. My tour guides were Danimal and John — Danimal’s a funny name but he’s a great guy. We had a good time. It was quite an adventure. I’m a little competitive so we went on the intermediate so we hit some level fours. I’m going for some fives and sixes next time. It was my first time so I figured I can handle fours. We definitely bounced around a little bit.

Manning Up

July 16th, 2007 - 12:15pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

We’ve got to start with my man J.R. from Jupiter, Florida.

First of all, I thank FroHawk27 for standing up for me. Appreciate it.

But anyway, something I expect in my position is to have to deal with things like this and respond to it and it’s not something I shy away from. Something my dad taught me about being a man is to take responsibility when you don’t do so well and be proud when you do do well. So I’ve always been willing to take responsibility and I can think of a plethora of plays in games throughout my life from the time I was playing in Pop Warner to now where I wish I had done things differently and I wish I had played better.

The one that comes to mind first is actually my sophomore year in high school. The last play of the game, we were playing against the best running back in the state. He was a really good running back and also a really good linebacker. I was a sophomore, he was a senior. We were really close to beating them. There was no time left, we were on like the 3-yard line.

I was our running back so they handed me the ball and it was just me and him in the hole to win the game. He probably weighed about 210-220 and I was about 135. My ego got the best of me and I decided to try and run him over and score the touchdown.

Didn’t work.

It’s Amazing What They Call Sports These Days

July 10th, 2007 - 12:43pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

Fourth of July was a good time. I actually went to a party at the Sculptured House — some people call it the Space House. It’s this fancy, real big architectural wonder in Golden. It’s pretty cool. The house is amazing — fancy and I got the history and stuff. But the best part was the fireworks. Because we were up in Golden we could see the whole city and we could pick out each little area’s fireworks, which was pretty cool. It was fun to see that — good way to celebrate.

We had to come in and work out on Thursday. Nothing important happened on Thursday.

Friday I had a meeting. I think it’s about time that I start to get out and get a little experience in the business world, so I had a meeting looking at possibly buying a real estate brokerage. I took the Harvard Business class, and a couple of things I took it away from that was just to get experience. That’s the best way to learn. And don’t be upset if you get burned because it happens to everybody early in the business. But if you’ve watched me play I really don’t get burned that often, so…

I love that. That was good. I’ll give the people a second to laugh.

Sports and Arts

We start by addressing Avrilanche — Joey, the goalie from last week. He played well. I was impressed — had a great game. Sorry that he came up on the short end of the stick, but he probably would have saved more goals if he wasn’t looking in the crowd. But I appreciate him finding me, I guess.

I do not know anybody on the Avs, but I don’t know that the Avs need a goalie. Especially one that’s checking out the people in the stands. Anyway, good luck the rest of the season to Joey.

And now that we’re on to hockey — I’m getting good at these segues — we can talk about last night’s game. Big Monday night hockey, 10:30 was the puck drop. The Broncos were able to notch their third win. They are now 3-2-1, which is the first time they’ve ever been above .500 in Broncos hockey history. Breaking down all types of barriers.

Spending Time With the Family and More…

June 26th, 2007 - 4:25pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

We had a good week of workouts last week.  That is always nice to see and we are now off this week which is really good. Some much needed rest.

My weekend actually started last Friday. I went laser-tagging with some of the guys from the Denver Broncos hockey team. It was all the guys from the equipment and operations staff. I got off to a rocky start, but I ended up being the high-scorer. I think the person in second place was right on my tail, only 3,000 points behind. We had a great time. I am really competitive so I think that I owe some of those guys apologies, but I just couldn’t take losing to the Denver Broncos hockey team.

Later that day I picked up my brother from the airport. He came into town and along with my parents and my cousin we all went downtown for dinner. We went to The Broker, actually. We ate in the vault and got a tour of the wine cellar in the basement. It was pretty cool, got a little bit of star treatment. I like that every now and then, although I don’t get much of it. It was cool, but I didn’t get any star treatment when the bill came around. That would have been nice. It was a good night.

Kids Camps, More Writing and a Trip to the Mountains…

June 19th, 2007 - 10:30am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

Went back to the DC/Virginia/Maryland area this past weekend for Curome Cox — my college teammate and current teammate. He had his first annual free camp for the Curome Cox Foundation. There were about 350 kids there — it was amazing. Had a lot of big sponsors. Some other players went out there. Brian Clark came out. Madieu Williams from the Bengals, another college teammate of ours, was there. Demetrin Veal and Elvis Dumervil were there and a couple of other players.

We had a really good time with the camp and we spoke to the kids at the end about the general things that you speak to kids about — teamwork, dedication, hard work, school and all these things and how you need to have priorities and football is not always the number one priority at that age.

High-Character Guys

June 12th, 2007 - 11:25am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

Well, we’re starting to see the look of our defense change a little bit, going a little bit towards what Coach Bates is used to — monsters for the d-line. I think it’s caused a little stress for our equipment managers, but they’ll figure it out sooner or later. Hopefully it takes a lot pressure off the linebackers. D.J. is a great athlete, really fast and talented guy, and if we can keep the offensive linemen off of him he could have a Pro Bowl-caliber year in my opinion. Athletically he’s as good as it gets as far as that position. So I look forward to see how he does in this defense now that we’ve added these huge guys that Coach Bates is famous for.

It should also make life a lot easier for us on the back end. I think defensive line and defensive backs are probably some of the more linked positions, as far as how well we do sometimes affects how well they do. And if they can get a pass rush it makes us look like the best secondary in the world, which we are.

Another Busy Weekend

June 5th, 2007 - 1:07pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

Busy, busy weekend.

Start with Fan Fair. Fan Fair was great. I got there an hour early to do a signing with College in Colorado, which was a hit. We had a ton of people there, and it was really cool because a lot of the kids were not so much talking about the football but they were talking about school.

We ended up meeting probably hundreds of kids, with paperwork and stuff about college as they were leaving. Whoever was there, we’d tell whoever would listen. They got paperwork and stuff and we linked them up with the web site — CollegeinColorado.org — just in case. I signed non-stop for an hour straight, then as I was leaving I had like a convoy of kids chasing me. I was trying to sign and run at the same time. It was really exciting.
