Dove Valley Update: March 13

March 13th, 2009 - 1:58pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

On Monday, a number of guys were at Dove Valley continuing their rehab from injuries in 2008, or they were just stopping by. Today, a pair of Broncos stopped in after getting into town ahead of time for Monday’s offseason conditioning program.

Matt Prater and Brandon Stokley were hanging out down in the locker room. Both players have spent their offseason spending time with family back in their respective home states.

The kicker traveled down to Florida to enjoy time with his three brothers and the nice weather “instead of freezing out here” he said with a laugh.

“I hung out with the family back in Florida,” Prater said. “That’s pretty much it. I’ve been lifting weights, trying to stay in shape, but I took a little time off.”

One of his favorite things to do in his time off is go fishing, so he made up for lost time on the water by reeling them in with his brothers. A self-proclaimed “home body,” Prater isn’t one to do a lot of traveling. He’d rather just kick back with his family and enjoy spending time with them.

Dove Valley Update: March 10

March 10th, 2009 - 2:53pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

It’s called the offseason. After all, the Broncos aren’t holding practices or playing games on Sundays.

But as Daniel Graham said last Friday at a community event, “What offseason?”

With the offseason conditioning program set to kickoff Monday, March 16 at Dove Valley, a number of guys are already back in town to get ready. Sure, many of them enjoyed traveling around the country and relaxing, but even then, most of them have been working out to stay in shape so that they can hit the ground running once the team reconvenes.

This morning, there were several players in the locker room and training room at Dove Valley. Boss Bailey, Peyton Hillis, Kory Lichtensteiger, Tyler Polumbus, Carlton Powell and Ryan Torain were all at the facility.

Free Agency Update

March 5th, 2009 - 12:50pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

Things have definitely slowed down since the first couple of days of free agency, but there are still plenty of players joining new teams or re-signing with their old ones.

But first, let’s recap what the Broncos have done. The team has signed 10 free agents thus far, beginning with the All-Pro Brian Dawkins. Next came Correll Buckhalter, Jabar Gaffney and Lonie Paxton. A day after that saw Andra Davis, Renaldo Hill and Darrell Reid come to Denver. Tuesday brought Andre’ Goodman and Ronnie Fields, and yesterday the team signed LaMont Jordan.

Now, onto the rest of the NFL.

Most recently, the big news is that the Cowboys have released wide receiver Terrell Owens. What do y’all think about this move by team owner Jerry Jones?

Yesterday, the Ravens and Ray Lewis were able to reach a deal that will keep the All-Pro linebacker in Baltimore. They also added former Vikings Pro Bowl center Matt Birk.

After testing the free agent market and talking with the 49ers, Kurt Warner has signed a two-year deal to return to the Arizona Cardinals.

2009 NFL Draft Order

March 4th, 2009 - 10:54am by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

Over the weekend with all the free agency happenings, a number of y’all asked about the Broncos’ 2009 draft selections.

I now have an updated full round-by-round order of the 2009 NFL Draft.

As most already know, the Broncos hold the 12th overall selection in the draft, but they also have eight more picks as of now.

Their next selection will be the 48th overall, 15th in the second round. The third pick is the 79th overall selection, which is the 15th in the third round.

They pick 14th in the fourth round, and then things get interesting. They have two picks in the fifth round, beginning with the fourth selection which they acquired from Seattle by trading wide receiver Keary Colbert. Then the team has the 13th pick in the fifth round.

The Broncos have just one pick again in the sixth round, the 12th. And again in the seventh round, they have two picks. The first comes in 16th position and the last in 26th, acquired by trading Domonique Foxworth to the Falcons.

This is the most up-to-date list, however it very likely could change. The NFL has not determined compensatory picks yet, which will be awarded to teams at the bottom of rounds 3-7. Once the compensatory picks are announced, we’ll have an updated draft order.

Dawkins Press Conference Live Blog

February 28th, 2009 - 2:15pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

1:15 p.m. MST: We’re 15 minutes away from the start of the press conference, and the media is starting to trickle in.

1:21 p.m. MST: We’ve got some print reporters filing into the team room and more video cameras being set up in the back.

Right now we’re just testing to make sure all the audio/video equipment is working, and pretty soon we’ll be listening to Dawkins.

1:31 p.m. MST: We should be just a few minutes away, as the press conference was scheduled to begin now. There are more reporters and Broncos staff members in the team room now.

1:34 p.m. MST: Members of the Dawkins family have entered the room and sat down up front, so I expect we’ll start any minute.

1:36 p.m. MST: And we will apologize in advance. All the traffic on the site has slowed things down, but I’ll get all the information to you from the press conference as quickly as I can.

Dawkins has entered the room and taken the podium.

1:36 p.m. MST: Head Coach Josh McDaniels is at the podium, introducing Dawkins.

“Brian Dawkins is a special, special person and an even better player.”

“One of the things I realized once free agency opened is he’s exactly what the Denver Broncos are looking for. He’s dedicated and serious about the game,” McDaniels said. “He wants to come to a place where he can win. It’s our priveledge to add him as the newest Denver Bronco. He’s going to provide us with great leadership, great attitude.”

1:39 p.m. MST: Dawkins has taken the podium, and McDaniels has presented him with an orange No. 20 Broncos jersey.

Free Agency Day 2

February 28th, 2009 - 11:05am by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

10:05 a.m. MST: As is often the case, the first day of free agency was pretty hectic with a lot of signings all around the league.

Things could slow down a little bit today, but you never know. It does seem pretty quiet out there right now though.

It was great to see everyone getting so involved on the blog yesterday, and as more moves are announced today, please keep commenting and posing questions.

As for us here at Dove Valley, there’s no official news from the team yet, but we are picking up on some chatter that we might be hearing something soon. If and when that happens, we’ll let you know.

10:11 a.m. MST: Looking through the NFL’s free agent tracker, it looks like at least one move has gone through since last night. Tight end Sean McHugh has re-signed with the Steelers.

Free Agency Under Way

February 27th, 2009 - 10:46am by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

Free agency began at 10:01 p.m. MST last night, and since then a number of big signings have already occurred. We’ll be blogging all the big news throughout the day.

9:45 a.m. MST: It began late last night with Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who hit the open market for just a short while before he re-signed with Washington.

Then the Redskins were able to sign the biggest free agent prize out there, Albert Haynesworth.

The Patriots got into the mix and are expected to sign running back Fred Taylor, who has spent the entirety of his career up to this point with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It looks like the New York Jets have gotten one of the most coveted free agent linebackers in Bart Scott, and they also were able to re-sign their fullback, Tony Richardson.
