Week 5: Shanahan at the Mic

October 1st, 2007 - 1:11pm by Andrew

1:11 P.M. MDT: Here we go … getting ready for Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s press conference, which is set to commence at 1:30 p.m. MDT. We’ll have his thoughts here, and you can click here to watch the doings live.

1:31 P.M. MDT: MRIs for Travis Henry, John Engelberger and Ian Gold … and Shanahan doesn’t know if Javon Walker and John Lynch will play Sunday; they are receiving treatment today.

1:32 P.M. MDT: Run defense: “We’ve been pretty inconsistent (there) all through the preseason, too … it’s something Indy (struggled with) last year.

1:33 P.M. MDT: On the tackling: “People make mistakes and you see it on film. I’m not going to go into detail, obviously, but something has to be worked out.”

1:34 P.M. MDT: Now Shanahan’s being asked about the Colorado Rockies … and their one-game playoff with the San Diego Padres tonight has captivated the media attention in this town, to the point where the attendance for this day-after-game press conference is the lowest I’ve seen in my five-plus seasons here.

1:35 P.M. MDT: “We’ve got some great effort but not a whole lot of productivity,” Shanahan says of the special teams. “You’ve got to have 11 guys doing the little things the right way … It only takes one (to mess it up). We’re not getting it done … Hopefully one of these days it will pay off.”

1:36 P.M. MDT: Shanahan spars with a new reporter about the red-zone offense, reminding him that even with its struggles, it remains in the league’s top half. “It’ll come,” Shanahan said.

1:37 P.M. MDT: Turns his focus to San Diego and now comments about Oakland and its improvement from 2006 when the Raiders offense was “completely inept,” and has improved now.

1:38 P.M. MDT: Kenny Peterson will return to the practice field this week following his four-game suspension; the Broncos can use him on the practice field this week and have to make a decision as to whether he’s on the 53-man roster next week.

1:39 P.M. MDT: And with that … we’re done. Short one this week.

play foxworth at safety and let lynch sniff out the run as a rover nickel back. swap lynch and fox in 3 wide situations to put fox back to corner in passing situations. otherwise a 5-2 defense could be the ticket. put a little bit of beef in the box to stop the run. either way, we need to put our best personnel on the field and let them make plays. changes need to be made, because things are not going as well as planned on defense.

Hey Mason, I reckon we all have to live with thorns stuck in our sides and “letplummerplay” seems to be a real big one. Maybe he or she should propose to him, I hear he is still available (unmarried). Any way good luck. The Broncos had this same problem (run defense and red zone issues) back in the 80′s when John E. was at the helm (under center). It eventually worked out. We are a young team in the rebuild mode. Maybe tht’s an excuse but I still believe in the team and they will do great things in the near and far future. The only thing we need to do is hang on and support the team. Good luck with the sore loser ( Plummer’s best friend)

who remembers 2005??? The best bronco defense ive seen in a minute!!! remember 13-3 record and home field advantage with a 1st round bye…Man that was nice…Im pretty sure its cuz our defense was # 5 against the run after playing tomlinson and all dem the wholse season… anybody remember dat eagle game dat season and how we jus mawled(wrong spelling im sure) donavon McNabb! we threw so many looks at him he didnt kno wat to do! movin 8 in the box and disquisng blitzes!! man!! NICE! The broncos rush attack against the best offensive line in pass protection in the NFL did decent in the 1st half…like a blogger said gettin jarvis up and around makin him look like a 7’3 line backer! do it more often and then we can do something…Remeber if we dont give up a long run we’re good. BUT! the other teams have to run wen we’re #1 in stopping the pass!

Hey P-Nut… Who is still available? Are you referring to Jake? Jake is married, so our proposal to him would fall on deaf ears!
