Two-Year Extension for Winborn

December 12th, 2007 - 6:15pm by Andrew

In the past five days, the Broncos have rewarded two of their most pleasant surprises this year.

Last weekend, it was Brandon Stokley, whose ability to help step in as a starting wide receiver after spending most of his career as a No. 3 slot wideout helped him earn a three-year extension. Wednesday, it was linebacker Jamie Winborn, who signed a two-year contract extension just two months after joining the team three months and a day ago, after the regular-season opener at Buffalo.

Winborn is the Broncos’ leader in special-teams tackles this year, with 10 total stops — nine solo and one assist. He’s also added five solo stops, an assist and a pass breakup in limited action on defense.

The Broncos are Winborn’s fourth career stop after three-plus seasons with San Francisco, one with Jacksonville and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But thanks to his emergence on kickoff and punt coverage, he’ll have the chance to stay awhile.

Good for Jamie, way to go all out Win, Hint Hint Win.

I love it! We sign an outstanding special teams contributor who can step in at linebacker with little if any dropoff in performance.

Hey Mason, I thought you said that there would be some thoughts from Selvin Young and some words from Javon Walker regarding his health?

So all that is good news…but can anyone confirm a rumor that Kubiack might be released from the texans. If so any chance we would get his ass back here until he takes over shanny’s job in the next five years. make shanny the gm or some $%#^

“Someday, we’re going to look back at the last few weeks of the 2007 season, a disappointing season for the Broncos in the short term but rewarding in the long term, as the time when Jay Cutler grew into a top-10 NFL quarterback. Not sure if you’ve followed Cutler much this year, but he’s going to finish the season completing about 64 percent of his passes (exceedingly good for a guy with a depleted receiving corps and for a guy who throws downfield more than most NFL passers) for about 3,400 yards. That’s really good.”

It’s nice to see a east coast writer give Cutler some credit and not a whole bunch of nonsense about Leinart and Young being the Magic and Bird of the NFL.

Always liked the guy. He’s been terrific on ST. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him earning a starting spot, or at least more rotation time, next year.

Jay will soon be in the top 4 QB : exept Brady , Romo , and Manning , i don’t see many more better QB ( provided Favre retire next year ) . Great QB , good ( great ? ) coach , the formula for SB , we’ve experienced that in the late 90′s so the future is bright and it’ll be just a matter of putting good pieces around the king .

  8. maceano says:

I agree with you broncosfrance, I think cutler has got what it takes to be one of if not the best QB in the league. He has got better mechanics than even the best QB’s in the league now. Look at Brady he doesnt have the arm Cutler has. Peyton is always throwing ducks that get completed miraculously. Mark my words on this one Romo will be a flop. He just doesnt have it. I cant put my finger on it but he doesnt seem up to the par like some of the other young talented QB’s like Cutler and Palmer.

Stand, had I felt better, I would have. I came back from dinner with a massive cold and a fever. Rest and working on the main site — flashback, Kubiak story, etc. — are higher priorities.

Hey I hear Villam isn’t a good fit with the Jet’s, So I have An idea of how to fix the D, We bring Villma hear to play MLB move D.J back to outside. cut gold and move winbron on the other side. Then draft safety kenny Phillips from the U. Even thought these aren’t your daddys Miami teama. the more players form the U you have on your team the better you are. What do you think Mason?

i thought winborn showed some impressive speed when he contained rosenfart on a rollout against houston thursday night. made me wonder if he’s got the skill set to start someday at that position. lord knows the bronos need his tackling skills on special teams, congrats out to #51 !
