Tuesday Practice: Inside Job

December 11th, 2007 - 2:29pm by Andrew

Brandon Stokley in the Sports Dome

For Brandon Stokley, it’s time to wait.

Two days after pain in his strained left knee truncated his workload to barely over two quarters in the win over Kansas City, the veteran wide receiver did not practice, with he and the Broncos opting to give him at least one extra day before testing out the knee.

“He’s still a little sore,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said following the team’s 90-minute practice, which was moved to the nearby South Suburban Sports Dome due to the overnight and early-morning winter storm that covered the region with a few inches of snowfall.

Stokley said Tuesday that he wouldn’t even hit the treadmill for some jogging, opting for complete rest. He worked out on the treadmill last Thursday before practicing a day later in advance of the Chiefs game.

“Today I’m going to rest it, see how it feels and then see how it does (Wednesday), see how it feels and then it will probably be a game-time decision,” he said.

Stokley also didn’t believe the upcoming two-and-a-half-hour flight to Houston would exacerbate the issues with his knee.

“I didn’t think about that, but it probably won’t be that big of a deal,” he said.

Other items of note …

… Safety Nick Ferguson was the only Bronco other than Stokley to miss practice … Wide receiver Javon Walker “went full speed” during the practice. “He was able to get some reps, so hopefully there’s no setback,” Shanahan said … Running backs Selvin Young and Travis Henry both practiced … Shanahan also added that the Broncos plan to return to the South Suburban Sports Dome Wednesday for their morning session before decamping for Houston. “That’s our plan,” he said … In Houston, four Texans did not practice: Kicker Kris Brown, running back Ron Dayne, linebacker DeMeco Ryans and quarterback Matt Schaub. In regards to Dayne and Ryans, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said there was “still hope” for both to play Thursday in spite of sitting out Tuesday … The retractable roof at Reliant Stadium is expected to be open for Thursday night’s game. A final decision will be made in the hours before kickoff.

Andrew Mason, do you have any info regarding Brandon Marshall’s scheduled appearance in court on Thursday?

  2. Dekreybroncofan says:

So it sounds like Det is going to get some help with Sean out for the game sunday… We may go into SD with a shot at the Playoff’s with a win!

  3. TheFuture6 says:

Dekrey, due to tie-breakers, a win @ HOU coupled with a Charger’s loss does little more for us than both of us winning does. We need to win out, and the Chargers MUST lose to BOTH us and the Raiders. Thats the only way we win division

Where were these guys the last two weeks???

  5. vegasbronco42 says:

That’s why this site is the best in the NFL! Mr. Mason, you are the man. You, along with the rest of the organization, are working on a very short week, yet you still find the time to give us the information we ask for! Again, thanks from all of us who read the blog!

  6. BWoZ26 says:

although it doesnt matter whether or not SD wins to the lions, it would be nice if they injured LT and kept him out for the next 2 weeks, therefore we can easily beat them, and the raiders will have a chance too.

I loved watching the game on Sunday that’s the way the Broncos play. The offense was aggresive and the D was flying to the ball.

  8. Ed-the-relic says:

Tell me if im right on all of these scenarios please! Im going insane, we have to win out, pittsburgh could lose out and we get wild card…or tenn lose once and buffalo lose once and cleveland lose twice, also to win division San Diego lose to us and Raiders? We have a chance just like anyone else, if we take care of buisness……now please tell me if im right about all these scenarios…(we beat pitt and tenn and buffalo)

  9. hrdnokd says:

Yeah Ed, I’m pretty sure you’re right. Seriously, Ryan AND Schaub didn’t practice but Walker went full speed? OUTSTANDING! Houston’s down to the 3rd string back, I think he’s a quick hitter, LB’s gotta close the lanes quickly! Chargers have 2 losses in ‘em, you can see it between L.T. and Mr. Peckerwood. Great work Mason, thanks for the update!

  10. Ed-the-relic says:

Bronco Fans, listen….our schedule favors us believe it or not….we take care of buisness agaisnt a banged up houston team, then we got alot of days off to heal up for a monday night show down in a weather favored game then we come HOME agaisnt a Vikings team based around the run. All it takes is one fluke or two and were in.

Let’s end this season on a high note, it would be perfect if chargers loose 2 of final 3, but that won’t help if we get smacked in the mouth by a team we should easily handle.

  13. DeadDrunk says:

I don’t understand why SD would have to lose to both us and Oakland. If we beat the Texans and SD, and SD lost to the Lions, our overall records would be tied at 8-7, our division records would be tied at 4-2, and our conf record would actually be better 8-4 vs 7-4. So, could someone explain how if SD loses to the lions and us, and we win the next 2, we wouldn’t take the division?

  14. viccity77 says:

I think we have a real positive buzz and just a overaul good energy, and we must not 4get about the rockies, something just feels good!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks Dru

  15. DeadDrunk says:

I also like how all 4 teams from the AFC south are still in the hunt… Guess we know which division is the strongest this year.

  16. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

While we love Kubiak, let’s eliminate the Texans and keep our playoff hopes alive. This game is crucial, come out strong, Broncs!!!

  17. elevation inc says:

    dead drunk-

conference record is the third tiebreaker, the second is win loss tie between common opponents and san diego takes it with wins over indy and chicago. they need to loose out and we need to win out. wild card is easyily attainable if we win out because we hold tie-breaker over tennesse and buffalo. but cleveland has to loose twice.

  18. deaddrunk says:

    Ahh…

Thanks for the information elevation inc. I don’t know the specifics on the tie breakers. It sucks because we all know that SD will not go very long in the playoffs, I mean they beat the chiefs by 3, and the titans in overtime, both very boring disgusting games, not as bad as miami vs jets, but you know what I mean. I just think that out of all the teams, the Broncos could beat the Pats, because there a pass happy team, and thats where our defense should excell, especially if we play like we did on Sunday.

Of course Jacksonville still could be a big problem.

Anyways, heres hoping for something beautiful to happen.

  19. broncosfrance says:

If we win out and SD lose to Raiders, regardless of there result of their Detroit game , then we have better division record and we win the division , i’m right ? Sundauy was a playoff game , we eliminated the chiefs ( so sweet ) , then 4 days later we have another , should we win , Houston is eliminated an we’re still alive , so GO !!

  20. hrdnokd says:

Either way we need San Diego to lose at least 2 more games. The way the Steelers are going though they could easiy fall out of contention. Jacksonville just needs a win or any number of teams to lose in order to clinch this weekend. The playoffs started last weekend for the AFC, KC can eliminate Tennessee this weekend and Detroit MUST win to stay in the hunt. Great God I can’t believe I’m pulling for the Lions, Jacksonville and KC this weekend.

  21. clutch734 says:

actually the lions/SD game does matter….if for some reason Den loses to either Minn or Hou, the Den could still win the division if SD loses all 3…a Charger loss is always good….
If Pitt loses out, we could still get their wild card…they play Jacksonville this weekend…go jags….
then they go on road to play STL and Balt..weak teams but anythign can happen on the road….
We must have Buffalo win this week!!!
lots to watch this sunday but first lets take care of businness agianst Houston…I will be at the game in my Cutler Jersey…!!!
    Go Broncos!!

  22. wormyblackburny says:

I pray to god that the loss to the Raiders is not the deciding factor in whether we make the playoffs. How disgusting would that be? If Cleveland beats the Bills, we are hosed, unless San Fran could manage to spoil their season in the final game like they did to us last year. Tennessee has the easy road cuz they have Chiefs, Jets and, Colts. Colts will have clinched by week 16, so probably no Peyton, Wayne etc…playing. We were an 80 yard pass from Favre or a win against the Faiders away from having complete control of our destiny. Good sign for next year. We need to finish strong and show some heart, then build on the success next year. I would hate for us to win out and only cost ourselves better draft picks in the process if we don’t manage to make the playoffs. Crazy year in the NFL this year.

  23. Odomsfan says:

You guys are all morons. Can’t you see that our defense sucks this year? We are not going anywhere. We SUCK. We’ve got alot of serious changes to make in the off season. First we need a new coach and we will worry about new players afterward. We’ve got to get rid of Shanahan.
