4:11 P.M. MDT: Overheard here in the DenverBroncos.com conference room: “I don’t know if I even feel comfortable typing ‘pelvic bone infection.’”
4:18 P.M. MDT: Longest first round ever. Good God.
4:25 P.M. MDT: As for Jarvis Moss’ number, well, there’s only two numbers not taken in the 90s — 95 and 96, the latter of which was recently vacated by Michael Myers. Moss had No. 94 at Florida.
5:54 P.M. MDT: The second round isn’t motoring along as much as it’s lumbering. At this pace, the third round will not begin until around 7:20 p.m. MDT. This is threatening to become the longest first day in NFL annals.
5:56 P.M. MDT: “We never give Mountain time,” Chris Berman says as he announces that the draft will move to ESPN2 at 6 p.m MDT … making this one of the rare times I’ve heard a broadcaster give Mountain Time on a national telecast in the last 15 years. About time the forgotten time zone we call home was acknowledged.
6:57 P.M. MDT: An interesting contrast among the players the Broncos have selected so far. Moss started 13 games in his years at Florida and never started before his senior year. Crowder, on the other hand, became a starter as a freshman and closed his career with 47 consecutive starts. The two also were key parts of the last two national championship teams.

so Andrew i was right?? he still has the infection? how will this affect his play this year…won’t it weaken him. I mean this is a rough sport..not like basketball…it sickens me
He doesn’t have it anymore. The last game he missed because of the staph infection was in 2004.
I don’t think the injury/infection is or will be an issue at all. If it was, we would have never given up three trades for four spots just to pick him up. They obviously see a lot in him
Crowder, what a stud this kid is….I saw an interview with him on Texas’ Pro day, the kid is chiseled. Nice pick, I think the third rounder is going to be a safety guys and girls. John Wendling out of Wyoming would be nice or Sabby Piscatelli out of Oregon State…
With that level of experience and his size and speed, he seems pro-ready. I’m already looking forward to the competition at D-end with those two, Kenard Lang, Ebenezer Ekuban and Elvis Dumervil.

Mason - Why a tackle in the 3rd Round?
I can’t believe we didn’t pick up a safety with our 3rd rounder. I was really gunning for John Wendling, but at least Harris gives us some depth at OT. What do you think Andrew?
Well, with Harris, Shanahan said that he could also play guard, although all of his experience at Notre Dame was at tackle — freshman year on the right side; sophomore through senior seasons over on the left. But one would surmise his future is more than likely at tackle, given his background. He’s well-spoken and highly intelligent, and when you look at the tackle situation the Broncos have — a 10-year veteran in Matt Lepsis coming off a torn ACL, another veteran in Adam Meadows, and a young starter in Erik Pears — there could be room for a young player like Harris to develop. He went into the 2006 season highly regarded and was a four-year starter. At 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, he also fits the “Bronco mold” of offensive linemen, so to speak. Given his resume, Harris seems like a very good value pick for the top of the third round.
This was a solid, if not spectacular, day for the Broncos, and I think Shanny did a solid job of addressing needs, and not taking unnexcessary risks. Sure, the trade to get Moss may have been unneeded, but if the guy you want is there, and you have any doubt about it, you have to make a move.
