Surgery a Success

November 21st, 2008 - 8:07am by Ryan Torain

So I had my surgery yesterday. I did everything they asked me to in terms of my prehab, just doing some quad exercises and trying to keep the leg strong, working with Greek a little bit and always icing it.

Yesterday everything went well, as far as I can tell. I feel good. My leg’s still kind of numb, so I’m just taking a lot of antibiotics and pain killers. I’m just trying to heal up. Right now I’m just groggy and tired, so forgive me if this blog is a little short.

The plan now is to rehab at the hospital for like 10 days, just some light rehab. I’ll stay laid up, keep some ice on the knee and that’s pretty much it. I do get to travel back and forth to home, which is good, I just go back to the hospital for the rehab every day.

I just want to say to everyone showing me support: Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, and you know I’ll be back next year, ready to get going in a hurry.

I’ve been able to keep up with the rest of the running backs since I’ve been gone, and I am most definitely impressed. They’re stepping up big. Especially Peyton, with me and him being rookies and being able to contribute and help the team win, that’s what we play for — to get the W. Peyton is doing big things and I’m happy the rookie class is stepping up like that, all over the field.

I’m focused on rehabbing right now, but I know Thanksgiving is coming up right around the corner. What are all of you doing for the holidays? My mom’s coming in town and she will cook up some home-cooked food. We do the whole nine. It’s not a question of what we cook on Thanksgiving, it’s more like — what do we not cook?

I can’t wait to just grub and spend some time with my mom and my brother.

I just want to say thanks again to everyone, and I’ll check in with you next Thursday while I’m getting ready to eat.

Thats great news Ryan, and we all look forward to seeing you ‘hit the hole’ next year. Being English and living in England, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I will be staying up to the early hours watching (American) Football just like I always do :D

On a quick note when I read, “to get the W. Peyton is doing big things and I’m happy the rookie class is stepping up like that, all over the field”, I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what Walter Peyton had to do with anything, then it finally clicked!

Good luck with your rehab, and keep in touch!

    Ry,

You’re going to be our next great RB here in “The Nation”. Keep up your rehab for a fast recovery! You are truly gifted and will take this league by storm next year. On a different note… I beg of you to change your number from 42 to something in the 30′s. I personally like 33 for you, it fits you great! 42 is a bad luck number to you. Get rid of it!

Thanks for the update, Ryan. For our Thanksgiving, we plan to eat all kinds of food and I’m really looking forward to the pies my aunt makes. She always brings really good banana cream pie over. Other than that, there will be lots of football and I think the Eagles-Cardinals game will be the best of all. Hopefully, rehab continues to go well for you.

  24. BroncoSEK says:

I cant wait for Thanksgiving myself! We are going to have turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, pies, cheesecakes, everything you can imagine. I get to make the desserts, which is usually my job since I make some pretty amazing desserts if I do say so myself haha. But I love to bake and cook, and see my family. Especially with all the college food Im eating I cant wait for a real meal!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

I’m glad to see you’re beginning your rehab Ryan. I really hope everything goes smoothly. The Cleveland game showed that (even though it was just one half) you have the potential to be a big part of this team’s success a la TD. Show to put more pressure on you, but seeing you run reminded me a lot of watching him. Not exactly like him but very similar. So keep up the good work and I really hope we get to see in training camp making big strides. Take care and God bless. Also, have a great Thanksgiving.

  27. ericbball324 says:

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Good to see your staying positive through all this injury trouble. I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the rehab and have a great thanksgiving!

  28. 66forHOF says:

Good to hear about the surgerey, hope you can have more games like the one in New England, but with out the season ending injuries.

  29. cornersfan says:

Please thank Peyton for doing the Mile High Salute!! That fired me up!! Love it!! Happy Thanksgiving!!

  30. CUTemupLER says:

Glad to here it was a success. Next season we will be a force to be reckoned with that is if the injuries don’t kill us like they did this season we must have broken the NFL record for most injuries in a season and most season ending injuries. It sucks though because it’s going to be hard for everyone to get paid. I’m going to my grandparents house they live on a 33 acre land a few miles from anything so it’s kind of nice not to hear noise, but it stinks that I can’t like walk to the store or anywhere else, but I can walk to the beach. Have a good thanksgiving!

  31. brian_schneider says:

Glad surgery went well, and hope rehab and everything goes well. I can’t wait to see you rush for 1000+ yards next season.

  32. SuperBowl_32 says:

    Hey Ryan,

It’s good to hear the surgery went well and you’re starting to rehab. Any chance of playing again before the end of the season – or maybe in the playoffs? I think you and the other RBs are definitely due to catch a break and get some serious playing time. Can’t say enough about how Peyton Hillis and Spencer Larson have filled in though.

Hopefully we can turn things around against the Jets on Sunday. Tough game, but I know we’re a lot better than what we showed against the Raiders. My son lives in New Jersey and works in NYC so he is hoping to go to the game. Don’t worry, he’s still a Bronco fan and will be yelling for us. Do you still get to make the trip even though you’re on IR?

Glad to know your mom and brother will be coming to see you for Thanksgiving. Our daughter and some friends will be coming to have dinner with us – but not until Friday. So it’ll be Thanksgiving, turkey and all, just a day late.

Have a great Thanksgiving and hang in there with that rehab. Looking forward to seeing you back on the field ASAP.
