Stokley Practices; Listed as Questionable

December 7th, 2007 - 2:45pm by Andrew

Brandon Stokley

On the one hand, Brandon Stokley and Javon Walker are both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. But both made it through the full practice on Friday afternoon — which for Stokley marked the first time this week that he’d manage to practice at all after suffering a strained left knee in last weekend’s 34-20 defeat at Oakland.

Both should be able to play Sunday “unless something happens,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said as the Broncos wrapped up the 90-minute practice, which took place under dreary, gray skies with the threat of snow flurries.

“We’ll just have to wait and see, and see how (Walker and Stokley) are (Saturday),” Shanahan said.

Stokley said he felt “pretty good,” but added that he was affected by the injury when he attempted to cut Friday.

“A little bit,” Stokley acknowledged. “It does because when I cut certain ways, it does affect it a little bit, but hopefully that will improve.”

Stokley rested the knee on Wednesday but worked out on Thursday as a precursor to returning to the practice field a day later.

“I jogged a little bit (Thursday) on the treadmill and I felt good, so when I went out there today I was able to run some routes and felt pretty good out there,” Stokley said. “So hopefully it’ll just keep improving.”

The Broncos are counting on that — for both Stokley and Walker.

“Both should be ready to go if there’s no setback,” Shanahan said.

ALSO OF NOTE:

Safety Nick Ferguson was the only Bronco to sit out practice Friday and is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game; he hasn’t missed a contest since suffering a season-ending knee injury 13 months ago … Every other player on the Broncos’ injury report is listed as probable and fully practiced Friday: Defensive end John Engelberger (shoulder), running backs Andre Hall (ankle) and Selvin Young (elbow), wide receiver Glenn Martinez (ankle), guard Isaac Snell (thigh) and linebackers Nate Webster (ribs) and Jamie Winborn (hamstring).

In Kansas City, offensive tackles Damion McIntosh and Kyle Turley were ruled out after missing a third straight day of practice. Will Svitek is listed as McIntosh’s backup at left tackle, while Turley is listed behind Chris Terry on the right side … Safety Greg Wesley (head/knee) and linebacker Donnie Edwards (hamstring) are listed as questionable, but both practiced fully Friday … Quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who suffered a knee injury in Wednesday’s practice, was placed on injured reserve.

way to go stokley WE NEED YOU
about the D honestly we have SUCKED on the D yeah we brought in bates but remember last year in the beggining we were on that amazing streak without giving up a tuchdown??? we have wasted our draft picks on the D-line and the only good one to come out is elvis dumervel and I believe he was a second round pick!!! lets face it champ and bly are having a HORRIBLE year they keep getting picked on. I think Darrent(god rest his soul) was playing way better than bly. in my mind the only decent move was moving abdullah to SS, but they signed this new guy underwood? dont get that signing movin DJ to middle ???? why not move him back to outside and pull off a trade to the jets for jonathan vila since the jets have move to a 3-4 he hasent been doing good plus the jets have a awsome rookie linebacker Harris in my mind its a possible trade

Hey guys, we just need to see Walker on First, Second, and Third down. Also, Cutler needs to at least glance in Walkers direction. Right now he wont even spit in his direction when he drops back to pass. Also, I would like to see some more running plays called then passing plays. Especially if we get in a groove of running the football. t seems like every time we do good on running the next play happens to be a pass. Am I right? So just try and throw Walker some passes in the game and start running more. Also, i agree with what you said BroncoBoyest95. Mostly about the linebacker situation. Maybe we can get Al Wilson back and put in Middle or was he already picked up in Free Agency yet. I always sign him when i play Franchise Mode on Madden 08 with the Broncos.

hey broncoboyest95 and bailey#1 you are both wrong about dj. He’ll be a great middle linebacker. No linebacker can be good without defensive tackles in front of him taking on offensive lineman. Look at ray lewis his best years were when he had sam adams at his best playing in front of him. And look at brian urlacher he was dominate last year when he had tank johnson and tommie harris dominating in front of him. But just look at him now without tank johnson and with harris struggling with injuries he’s having a way worse season than dj. So just give dj a chance. I thinkl we should try to sign Albert haynesworth this offseason. I think he could be the difference between us being a subpar defense or the league’s best.

Hey guys, I have the solution to ALL of our problems…. starting NEXT year.

First, we hire a DC who runs a 3-4 defense, and runs it well… someone like Dick Labeau in Pittsburgh. Do what it takes to lure him away. Every QB struggles against the zone blitz and a 3-4 defense… ESPECIALLY Peyton Manning…. AND Pittsburgh consistently has one of the best defenses in the league…. we don’t

Secondly, we trade for “Ocho Cinco”, or try REAL HARD to pick him up if he’s released… I believe he’s in the last year of his contract???

Third, we should pick up DeAngelo Hall from ATL. He’s young, fast, and idolizes Champ Bailey. Maybe if he comes in, he’ll encourage Dre’ Bly to play better to keep his #2 spot, or he’ll overtake him, and Bly will move to nickel, and then we SHOULD be able to hang with Indy… just MAYBE.

Lastly, probably the most important of all, we should trade away ALL of our draft picks for the next 10 years, as well as sell our souls too… to the Bears, and get Devin Hester. That way, we’ll FINALLY have starting field position different from the usual…. the shadow of our own goal post. Last week, Cecil Sapp, and that new kid (Jacobs?) were fighting over who got the ball on a kickoff return. STOP FIGHTING, AND GET YOUR BUTT UPFIELD!!! It’s not like you’re gonna “pad your stats” with a TEN YARD RETURN!!!

We always have success running the ball, so we can dump T-Hank to free up the cap space for the big time (and more talented) players. Then, we’ll spread it out 4 to 5 wide (like the good teams in the league this year do), and no one will be able to stop Cutler picking defenses apart with Ocho Cincco, Javon Walker, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Stokley, and Devin Hester, Glenn Martinez, Tony Sheffler, Daniel Graham and Rod Smith? subbing in at the #5 spot giving the other 4 a breather at times. Having all that “talent” on the receiving core, Shanny SHOULD BE ABLE to pull a few new tricks outta the bag… especially starting on a short field because we got Hester, and he’s already took a few to the house, so we’ll just need the offense to put us over 40 points. At the rate, you don’t need a good defense. But Shanny doesn’t have that “killer instinct” and he’s often content with a 10 point lead, instead of a 42 point lead like the UNDEFEATED Patriots. How many times have we let a lead slip away because we didn’t keep piling it on?! A few times too many.

And after all that, maybe…. JUST MAYBE we’ll finally be able to string to together a double digit win season and hang with the best of them.

    Ya think?

Things are finally turning around and we’re going to have great success from 2008 on. Of course, there’s still a chance to make a wild card run, albeit a long one, but if we can win these final four games, perhaps we can take some momentum into the offseason, if nothing else.

I would like to remember the taste of a win! The team is getting healthy and is coming home. Now give me what I want! Go Broncos!

    Dear DenvaBroncos,

Your best bet on getting your hands on either one of those jerseys, is online. I’ve seen a few D-Will jerseys here and there, but not too many. Try your basic sports shops in your local mall(s). If you don’t have any luck, try the online websites that I’ll list for you below. Online is probably the ONLY place you’ll get Damien Nash’s jersey, because he wasn’t a popular player, and you’ll probably have to MAKE a custom/personalized Nash #29 jersey. The only problem with online shopping is it’s more expensive due to shipping and what not, and you get your items on delay (especially personalized ones), because they have to MAKE the item, ship it, etc. You’re usually looking at AT LEAST one week out on buying/making items online. Here are the websites, I hope this helps….

    nflshop.com
    espnshop.com
    footballfanatics.com
Broncos Home Page: Click On “Online Pro Shop”

Those are just a few websites for your team memorabilia needs. I still find it strange that they have Ashley Lelie jerseys and Plummer jerseys on the Broncos Shop, but no D-Will. Plummer is understandable, but Lelie? Come on.

Oh, you can also go to the Broncos practice/training facility off of Broncos Pkwy in Dove Valley, they have a shop there (that doesn’t require shipping), and try the shop at Invesco, same deal there…. nothing but old and new Broncos stuff. Good luck!

This is funny yet sad! The best defense Denver has had all year came from a lawyer!, Travis Henrys lawyer.

    Somehow Shanahan was fined 25k.

Glad Stokely is healthy enough to play and sticking around for a while.

NO83, while I like your enthusiasm, that is a bit of a pipe dream. The problem on this team is not the players. They are not being put in position to make plays with the scheme or playcalling. Hope something changes this week. Going to be at the gme this weekend and I pray the Broncos show up and play!

  17. BroncoBoyest95 says:

hey like albert haynsworth but dont change the de-fence maybe sign jim mora jr

  18. BroncoBoyest95 says:

wat we get Jim Mora JR

  19. big merv says:

No.83 the things you are suggesting are good strategies to win but they are very unrealistic. There’s no way we can sign chad johnson even if we could that would hurt us more than help. Think about it our team is filled with young talent that can help us build a great future but most of them have deals that our not for long and if we don’t resign them they’ll be out of here. Some of them are tony scheffler, brandon marshall, elvis dumervil, chris kuper and chris meyers. Another one of your ideas that is not great is the one about changing to a 3-4 defense. While I admire the great defenses in the league that run it, not all teams have success with it because you need the right personnel to run it and getting that personnel is harder said than done. You need a huge nose tackle who can dominate and two defensive ends that are as big as defensive tackles but good enough to get pressure and play the run while rarely ever having the luxury of being single blocked. You also need four linebackers who are very dynamic and saavy and can rush the passer, cover and play the run. Only teams with all those components can use that defense and it still takes a while before this defense can be learned by all the players. That kind of time could set our franchise back a few years. Another reason it is not a good idea, just look at all the teams that have tried to emulate the patriots and steelers by using this defense. Only one, the san diego chargers, have had success. Teams like oakland, houston, new york jets, cleveland browns, san fransisco, and the arizona cardinals have tried and have either failed miserably and changed back or are still horrible on defensive and debating about going back to a four three. The Cowboys have some success, but still are in transition.Even the mighty Ravens defense is struggling now that they have have gone to the 3 4. So that’s not a move we should make. The biggest thing we should do in our offseason is go after albert haynesworth or try to acquire Glenn dorsey in the Nfl draft.

    Big Perv… I mean Merv,

Thanks for writing a novel explaining to me and everyone else in the world why my WISHES for the Broncos are “unrealistic.” That was kind of my point. I’m VERY aware of the necessary components to run a 3-4 defense successfully, and I’m VERY aware of the fact that we’d have to draft, trade, and sign accordingly…. and that would set us back. If you read a little closer, you’ll see that I mentioned selling OUR SOULS to the Bears in order to pick up Hester. You obviously missed out on where I was coming from.

So again, thanks for overwhelming us all with your vast knowledge of football and the NFL. I was unaware that everyone would eventually want to pick a fight for one reason or another. (especially you) I was just making a GENERAL statement of things that would be nice for the Broncos in a FANTASY WORLD, WHERE CHANGES COULD BE MADE OVER NIGHT. I’m sorry that I offended you, and you wasted your time writing me a BOOK explaing all the reasons why my “unrealistic dreams” would not work. I was just throwing stuff out there… it was my mistake for not preparing for someone like you, taking us all back to Jr. High, and picking a fight. I don’t know why people like you even bother with a rebuttal… I don’t remember directing my paragraph(s) towards anyone, especially you.

Get a life and grow up.
