Shanahan Fireside: Week 10

November 12th, 2007 - 2:20pm by Andrew

1:20 P.M. MST: The trips back to Colorado from Detroit and Kansas City in recent days couldn’t have been more different. Take the bus-ride portions of the journeys, for instance. Eight days ago, the last vehicle in the four-bus convoy — the one which I traditionally ride, which is usually populated with guests, staffers, radio-network people, et. al. — was virtually silent, save for muted snippets of conversation that could barely be heard from one seat away. Last night, however, dozens of chats could be clearly heard, as could some raucous laughter from throughout the cabin. Just one of the many differences between winning and losing.

Why do I mention this? I’m not sure; I just needed something to open today’s press-conference blog. More to come when Shanahan arrives.

1:30 P.M. MST: Here we go.

1:31 P.M. MST: Tight end Tony Scheffler is “just a little sore” and Shanahan doesn’t think it will keep him out of practice … Travis Henry’s knee is “still just a little bit swollen” and he will undergo an MRI examination “just to be sure.” … Henry’s hearing will be on Friday with the NFL. “We’ll find out what happens shortly thereafter — how shortly, I’m not sure.

1:32 P.M. MST: Shanahan said that if Henry’s test was positive, he would not be on the football team. “We’ll let due process take care of itself … but if the test was positive, after what he promised me, he would not be on this football team.”

1:32 P.M. MST: Thinks he will hear about the result of Henry’s hearing “the week after” it takes place in Phoenix.

1:33 P.M. MST: Shanahan said that a hair sample on Henry came back negative, and that he underwent a lie-detector test. “If he tested positive after the commitment he made to me, he would not be with this team,” Shanahan said.

1:34 P.M. MST: “Knowing our commissioner, he’ll definitely give (Henry) a fair shake.”

1:34 P.M. MST: On Selvin Young: “It doesn’t surprise me because he’s been doing this since preseason; you can see the speed, explosiveness and quickness in practice … Travis wanted to play (at Kansas City), I just didn’t think it was the best thing for our football team since he didn’t practice during the week … You’ve got to go with the guys that practice and the guys you feel good about.”

1:35 P.M. MST: Said that he didn’t want to take a chance with John Lynch until the numbness resulting from his stinger went away.

1:36 P.M. MST: Said he thought Hamza Abdullah and Domonique Foxworth would provide more range in the passing game … and when asked whether Abdullah would stay in the lineup, Shanahan said, “You’ll have to see Monday night.”

1:37 P.M. MST: When asked whether he watched Adam Vinatieri’s missed field-goal attempt, Shanahan asked, “Which one?”

1:37 P.M. MST: “The thing that we did well last week was that we got better each week — good practices, sense of urgency. We took it over to game day. I was really impressed with our players and how they handled things last week.”

1:38 P.M. MST: Said that Javon Walker is probably a “long shot” to play next Monday … “He’s got to get extra reps during the week” … “I’m keeping my fingers crossed.” … “We’ll just have to wait and see … I don’t think it’ll be good for Monday night.”

1:39 P.M. MST: On Josh Mallard playing 46 plays five days after he signed: “It shows you we needed some help.”

1:40 P.M. MST: Said next week’s game with Tennessee almost like a division game because of his familiarity with Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, with whom Shanahan is close and converses frequently.

1:40 P.M. MST: And … we’re done.

Hair test? Freakin ridiculous. Henry’s hair is trimmed so short there’s little to no chance of detecting any drug trace in his hair. He would have to have not had a haircut in three months or more to pick up anything. If there’s no blood and urine test the process is a joke and it underlines why so many players are getting caught trying to dope up…they correctly assume have a reasonable chance of getting away with it. The league does its best to provide loopholes and keep controversy to a minimum…and you still have guys like Rodney Harrison, Shawn Merriman, the Carolina Panthers, etc; who are dumb enough to get caught.

I don’t want the Broncos to be down a man needlessly mind you. If Henry’s innocent, then by all means, let him stay. But a hair test? This isn’t the JC Penney job interview, it’s the NFL!

  5. mommie7902 says:

WhiteHoss HE can cut his hair all he wants and even shave it bald it doesnt matter. They can trace pot back 7 years from a hair sample as long as he has a root that the hair comes out of then they can trace it. Now being that they can trace hair samples 7 years back it wouldnt work for him anyway because we already know he has smoked it in the last 7 years. I agree if he didnt do it then let him play but the way Young is playing I think Henry might need a new job. If Henry is guilty let his ass go. Also if he did do it I have to give credit where credit is due because he was smart. Knowing that they can trace it so far back in the strand of hair he figures if he appeals what he did then it gives him enough time to clear or dilute his system enough so the next time around he pees in a cup he will pass it thus getting away with smoking pot and being able to continue to play football.

  6. OrAnGe WiLk says:

    Hey Andrew,
Do you expect the NFL to fine or possibly suspend Brackenridge for that cheap shot on Marshall? I hope they do something, that dirty play should not be tolerated.

  7. Broncofan1088 says:

WhiteHoss, what do you know about hair tests? A hair follicle will show traces of marijuana for up to 7 years, so the fact his hair test was negative is actually ironic to me since he has smoked in the past 7 years, suspended while on the titans. Mostly what mommie said above me.
However, from what I have heard from a friend in the FBI, which is my current goal for my profession, you can also tell by the hair when the most recent time the person has likely smoked was. So I’m assuming a hair follicle of his would show the old positives and then a time of sobriety in between and if there is a decent amount of sobriety proof at the recent end of the follicle then it could be true.
All facts aside, I feel he is positive for some reason and i am very displeased with him for this. I just wish the facts come out and the suspension is decided fast to get this ordeal over with.
Nice win this weekend, very well played, they have a shot to make playoffs but I still don’t see them beating the pats or uninjured colts in the playoffs.

  8. elway07 says:

Travis Henry is well, probably gone. Honestly, I don’t think anyone thinks he did well enough, he certainly doesn’t compare to Young. Young proved himself yesterday and showed potential and heart. Henry’s average gain of rushing yards is somewhere around 5 at a time… pretty pathetic compared to Young getting at least a first down most of the time. And Henry testing negative on his test is pretty doubtful… I betcha he won’t be a Bronco much longer.

Sure hope Lynch can come back by Monday if Walker isn’t looking good… would be nice to have at least someone come back after all these insane injuries. But if Lynch is still not sure I don’t want him to jeapordize his health anymore than he does. I want him to come back 100% and play 100% as well. Foxworth was awesome yesterday too, I knew we had the talent and potential… our guys just needed a great opportunity to show it and we got it against KC – Thank God!!!!!! I’ve never been so thrilled to win in KC, that was almost like winning a Super bowl but not quite. It felt great to win against a huge rival team.

Cutler was fantastic, he really came out in the 2nd half. The boy has got a killer arm and when he gets a chance to use, he uses it. Too bad, Indy lost – I’d take them over SD any day whether or not our division depended on it or not. I’m no fan of any team in our division except, of course, the Broncos!!!! I really thought they’d win it, just goes to show every “perfect” team has their defaults. Indy’s came out yesterday – didn’t know Manning was capable of throwing that many INT’s in one game let alone the first half!!

Well, we won and that’s all I care for right now.
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

  9. WhiteHoss says:

I stand corrected I spose. My understanding was that the strongest chemical trace ends up in segment of the hair that grows out during use periods. If it’s a root thing, then by all means. Of course, with sports science as it is, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if some genius invented a chemical masking shampoo, probably with doped horses in mind.

Either way, I’m torn. After all, if Travis loses his job hundreds of child support payments would dry up.

  10. Up In Smoke says:

The man smoked a A DAMN JOINT!!…….. COME TO CANADA, IT’S BORDERLINE LEGAL OUT HERE

  11. dfish001 says:

regaurdless if henry passes the test, we should not start him, he sucks, he runs with no intensity or heart, if the game yesterday was not enough to make mike start selvin, then i will question his caching ability for the first time ever! i think we have a great chance to beat the titans, and wouldnt it be nice to get walker back, as well as lynch. then maybe we can put hazma in for ferguson, cause he sucks!

damn manning :( , thanks alot, i’v watched that dick blow the broncos out in the playoffs, and when he can actually help us, he cant, what a dick!!!

Andrew, if you happen to see this: Did Shanahan address the repeated off sides penalties at the end of the game? Thanks.

  15. vraptor567 says:

I don’t personally care what he smokes but if he is paid that much $$$ to stay straight and play football that’s what he should do. From what I have seen he certainly does not pull his weight on the roster, at least Selvin has the heart and soul of a good RB and showed it yesterday. I hope Shanny will play him against the Titans, we could use another win.

  16. broncofaithful says:

i dont know but travis henry runs pretty tough to me. if ya havent noticed he has been hurt from the get go, but i c him hit the defenders harder than they hit him.give the guy a chance even if he puffed the magic dragon.dont get me wrong i love the speed n awairness of young but i think he is easier to bring down then henry. im sure shanny n company cab find away to use them both. cant wait till monday night. all in all it was a great win.way to go D……
    GO BRONCOS………

  17. WhiteHoss says:

shelbo, LPP doesn’t seem to be here defending himself today, but seriously…that was not a “Cutler” win yesterday. Anyone who says it was cannot be the same people who were saying the Broncos won their games from 04 to 06 “despite” Plummer, otherwise you’re just being a hypocrite. In fact, had Plummer been the starting QB yesterday, this was the classic type of game where he would have been attacked by the people who wanted Cutler in there!

    Denver Drive Log:
    Q1
    8 plays, 40 yds, FG
    3 plays, 39 yds, INT
    5 plays, 20 yds, punt
3 plays, 8 yds, punt (blocked for safety)
    Q2
    10 plays, 34 yds, FG
    8 plays, 31 yds, punt
    Q3
    3 plays, 31 yds, TD
    3 plays 7 yds, punt
    Q4
    6 plays, 51 yds, TD
    6 plays, 15 yds, punt
7 plays, 34 yds, TO on downs
    1 play, kneeldown.

Up until the passing TD, Cutler had one scoring drive (FG) that was not at least 50% due to Selvin Young’s legs. The 34 yard TD drive consisted of 3 simple handoffs to Young. The passing TD, while impressive and obviously important, came when the Broncos were already up by two scores, and the Chiefs were held scoreless for the quarter anyway.

Now, this is not to overstate Jake Plummer’s importance to his teams nor to understate Jay Cutler’s importance. However there is an obvious double standard here between people who dislike Plummer for personal reasons and don’t like the fact that he was acquired from another team and not homegrown; and people who like Cutler because he’s a team draft pick and largely a blank slate with no previous personal history.

I mean, if you honestly just want to say “I hate Jake Plummer because I personally don’t like him,” fantastic. Welcome to America. But Cutler’s being anointed the chosen one here a LITTLE ahead of schedule given that since his scoring outburst from midseason last year, he’s been little more than a ball-control QB who owes as much of his fortune to Jason Elam’s accurate and powerful kicks as to his own accurate and powerful throws.

Having said this, I will take wins any way we can get them. But it’s definitely a work in progress. Yesterday was a combination of injured opponent and the Selvin Young show.

Also, if you’re going to whip out the “Cutler beat the Chiefs in KC, Plummer never did” argument, that’s just ridiculous. Plummer was like 6-2 against San Diego, Cutler’s 0-2…does that even matter? They don’t even have the same rosters…but of course a Plummer hater is going to gloss over the fact that when Plummer played the Chiefs, the Chiefs were, you know…good.

Look, all I’m saying is, when Plummer was here, these kind of wins got slapped with a “TEAM” label and the losses got slapped with a “QB” label. I always found that unfair. The fact is, we have not had a true Super Bowl-winner caliber roster since 1998 and that’s a management flaw, not something to drop across a single player’s shoulders, especially when if you peel back the layers of that guy’s brain, all he ever wants to do is WIN.

Sigh. And with that I just got labeled a Cutler hater/Plummer lover, when all I’m really trying to be is a realist here. I want Cutler to succeed, but what I’m really crossing my fingers for is that if he DOES fail, he isn’t turned into the frickin’ pariah that Jake Plummer and Brian Griese (and even Dan Reeves) became when the city of Denver decided they weren’t living up to Our Lord and Savior John Elway’s standard.

    Good night y’all!

  18. WhiteHoss says:

By the way, calling Cutler a “ball-control QB” is not an insult nor cause for alarm. There have been many Super Bowl teams that featured ball-control QBs, particularly in the 21st century. There’s no shame in being Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer…they DO have rings, after all.

  20. Diskord says:

I know this is just one win. I also know that we are 4-5. But take a good long look at our roster and tell me that you’re not excited for the future? Here let me assist you:

    Mike Bell, Age 24
    Steve Cargile, Age 25
    Tim Crowder, Age 22
    Jay Cutler, Age 24
    Elvis Dumervil, Age 23
    Brandon Marshall, Age 24
    Karl Paymah, Age 24
    Tony Scheffler, Age 24
    Selvin Young, Age 24
    Jarvis Moss, Age 23
    Dominique Foxworth, Age 24

You want to talk about young talent? I think we have some. We’re going to be a powerhouse in two seasons if not next season. And this year doesn’t look so bad anymore :) . I hope we play the pats in the playoffs so we can do what we always do against them: win.

  21. doctorising says:

Oh no, here we go again with the Jake-Plummer-wasn’t-that-bad schtick…Ya know, personally, I didn’t dislike Mr. Plummer. I disliked him because he never grew up as a QB. He wanted to do the same thing that put him on the map in college: Play sandlot football hero. As I think has been demonstrated, what one does in college can’t always be done in the professional ranks. Granted, Jake ended up with a crappy team (Cards) to start his career off, all that really enabled was for him to try to play the same style of football he played in college. When he finally came to Denver, he still wanted to play the same way–by his own admission no less: “I love having the ball in my hands back there wanting to make plays” a la running around heaving the ball up for the heroic ending. Sorry Jake, those days were gone the day you signed a pro contract. And to verify that, his pro bowl season in Denver was marked by ball control and good throws, the very situation he made the above statement in light of. And as far as being unfairly compared to John Elway, John had the tools (a rocket launcher for an arm, great field vision & presence) to make the plays Jake wanted to make but often failed to. Sorry, but Jake was his own worst enemy in the end. He had a shot to turn it around and let his wants overcome his needs. I don’t care how many games he won, it’s the games he was TRYING to win playing sandlot football that got him the hook. As for Culter, he’s right in the middle right now. Sometimes he looks like Big John, but then he makes goofy Jake mistakes at the worst times. My jury is still out on him.
At last, for Mr. Up In Smoke up there, what’s with the stupid comment about coming to Canada where pot is boderline legal? Oh wait, that’s right, dope makes you stupid, hence, your remark so nevermind…Yeah, that’s right Travis, go be the second (and last) coming of Ricky Williams and play in Canada.

  22. gleaverman says:

    Andrew,

I was wondering if Cutler watched the most recent episode of South Park, in which he had made a brief appearance as a character on the show (as himself)? If he did, what did he think of it? I thought it was funny as hell.

  23. vegasbronco says:

I agree with you again WhiteHoss. You make excellent points about the double standards and the way we tend to turn on our QBs after some struggles (including #7). I keep waiting for it to happen, given Cutler’s penchant for INTs. Despite what some of our friends on here say, Cutler simply did not play a very good game yesterday. A lot of throws got away from him, and the deep completion to Marshall was underthrown but Marshall made a great adjustment. But a win is a win and all that really matters, and any QB that’s winning games gets my vote. I also agree with Diskord, that if we can hold on to our young talent and develop a little more, the future looks pretty good….

  24. KoobLis says:

Remember one thing though guys, in cutler’s defense, he was playing hurt too. He has had histories of not being completely honest with his injuries and prefere to play through them. He honestly looked very uncomfortable with his throws yesterday, so we’ll see how he does against the titans.

  25. vegasbronco says:

KoobLis, I agree with you. I think the injury was affecting him more than anyone let on. It almost looked like he was having a shoulder problem or something on that ball to Marshall. More concerning to me was having 4 (or 5?) passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. It shouldn’t happen that many times in one game, but I think that’s another thing that will get worked out in time. Another qb around here tried to gun every single throw on a rope, and he turned out pretty good….

  26. elway07 says:

To defend Cutler, I’m glad he can play through the pain, that’s the kind of QB we need around here. That shows he’s willing to do anything to help this team out – I can see why he sat out the rest of the Detroit game b/c he wasn’t sure how bad it was but if Cutler can be a man about the whole thing and not make up some lame excuse to not play, we’ve got the right QB on our hands. He’s the future of this team along with all the other young talented guys we have.

But I also want Cutler to play to his full potential and I don’t want him to jeopardize his health by playing injured and then something happen to make it worse. That play when Jared Allen unintentionally hit him in the leg and he was out for 2 plays – that could have been disasterous. I was in a panic mode for those two whole plays, but I was relieved beyond belief knowing that Cutler was back and toughing out the pain. That shows character and heart, you have to give him credit for that.

And I’m going to jump into this never-ending & very tiring talk about Plummer and say that I never saw this much heart in him (Plummer) or any QB that we’ve had since Elway. Cutler shows promise & will-power for this team and the future. I’ve honestly had enough of all this pointless Plummer talk knowing that he’s gone and he’s not coming back. Yeah, I’ve gotten involved with all this talk, but I’m done – its the past we have all got to move on. I’ve no doubt moved on from the Plummer era, I’ve seen worse QB’s but I’ve also seen better!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  27. gotfootball says:

My main issue (and I have been saying this from the beginning of the season)- Travis Henry doesn’t seem like a good fit for Denver. Regardless of drug issues.
He runs AROUND… Selvin explodes up the middle and generally gains positive yardage on every play. Henry will sometimes explode upfield and get a first, and other times try to run around guys and end up getting a loss of 2 or 3. Being CONSISTANT is key- 10 yards in four (well, 3 really) downs doesn’t sound like a lot on first down, but it can become miles pretty quickly if you try to run around defenders and lose yardage on first and second down.
I am not trying to take a way from Henry (even though he is pretty stupid for throwing away a great NFL opportunity just for a cheap high)- I’m just saying that we need to do what is best for the team (now and in the long run). What is best for this team is Selvin Young. We want heart, explosion, drive, and- above all- POSITIVE YARDAGE on EVERY run.

  28. bluebronco says:

i do have to say that i love the way Young runs. The explosiveness, the heart. Is just amazing. I love to watch him, And i dont say that for alot of RBs now a days. unless its adrian peterson or something. but while everyone is harping on travis Henry for being an idiot. I can only agree. but i think Travis Henry could do alot for the team. He runs in more of a workhorse fashion. and thats a good thing sometimes and thats a bad thing sometimes. But its CONSISTENT! We could still use him because you know what hes gonna do. So if you know he”s only gonna pick up 5 yrds on the average then let selvin carry it five (Or more) and then let travis pick up the first. this way you have more dynamics and teams dont want to have to switch up defenses for two types of runners a slasher and a pounder. but whatever happens happens. Anything to make us better and be champs again. #15 :)

  29. Vinci says:

    Selvin Young is good, I’ll give him that, but so were a lot of previous backs;

    Orlandis Gary
    Mike Anderson
    Reuben Droughns
    Tatum Bell

They were all good backs, but they weren’t elite. Clinton Portis was an elite back who we got in the second round rushing for over 3,000 yards in two seasons and surely would have gone over the 2,000 mark in a season had he not been traded.

What I’m saying is we tried to get a big time back in Henry – it didn’t work. What we should look to do in the next year or two is look for a big time back in the 1st or 2nd round. Selvin runs good, but he’s not going to take his game to the next level. Imagine A.D or Marshawn Lynch in Denver. They would tear it up and take us to the Super Bowl, just like T.D did.

  30. Krystina says:

We def needed this win. It would of been nice if the chargers would have lost, but that just means we play harder. Im fine with getting a wild card for the playoffs, but AFC West would be nice too. It’ll probably come down to us playing them. Jay looked great out there, looked like he was playing throught some pain but other than that great. And young looks just like the running backs we always have in denver. henry really doesn’t look like that. it would be nice to get javon back but i thing were getting the job done. keep up the good job boys on both sides of the ball!!!
    Future Mrs. Cutler

  31. ocrush4ever says:

Whitehoss–LPP isn’t here to “defend” himself, because he only shows up after losses to pretend that Plummer is still on the bench. He’s gone for chrissake. He’s not much missed. Let’s move on.

  32. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

If Cutler is called a “game manager,” he sure has a strong arm for a signal-caller with that designation. As for the Titans game, this is crucial for us to win if we are to retain a shot for a wild card, if not a divisional championship so we should be motivated to crush Vince Young and his friends. Travis Henry’s status, I hope, will be inconsequential, especially if he’s guilty. If he is, I feel confident having Selvin Young as our feature back as he gets better and better as the season progresses. Let’s have Javon Walker back swiftly because he’ll only make us even more dangerous offensively!

  33. SlyBronco says:

You have to remember. Cutler is a first year starter. Plummer was playing for around 10 years. Cutler is allready as good as Plummer. I was a Plummer supporter but you cannot deny Cutler is doing great overall.

  34. cobraowner1996 says:

Selvin Young runs for 100 Yards and it’s CUT HENRY.. HE SUCKS… HE”S a POT SMOKER!!!. Sure, Selvin Young is good. If he wasn’t, then I doubt he would be on the team. It’s just funny to me that after 3-4 weeks, Travis Henry was leading the league in rushing yards and people on this board say he’s got no heart? The fricken guy was pounding people. Just because one guy fills in for another guy and does good, doesn’t mean the other guy sucks. Especially after one game.

  35. cobraowner1996 says:

By the way, there is NO WAY San Diego should have won that game. Their coach stood in the locker room after the game telling his players this was the game that would get them started… even the players knew this game was a fluke. Some of them even said it in the locker room. The good thing is… we’ve got a chance because they aren’t playing well right now. The bad thing is… that’s the same team the wooped us in Denver.

  36. CRUSH AZ says:

I am glad to see the team recover from that humilliating lass to the lions, I was really impressed with the way our Spec. teams played and th D finally lived up to the hype. And Selvin young…WOW!!! lets play the colt and Lions again,LETS GO DENVER!!!

  37. tjames238 says:

I don’t think Jake was a bad guy at all. As a matter of fact I was pretty mad when they benched him last year. I just felt Jake threw lots of INT’s at horrible times of the game (what is horrible ya ask?) Going in for a score in field goal range, with the game on the line. That *&#$ed people off. Cutler has thrown some bad interceptions too but everyone overlooks these because he is new to the system, has the cannon arm etc etc. Plummer was a gamer and I liked the dude by Cutty is our man now so let’s move on with him. He has been playing most of the year without Javon, Nalen, Hamilton and Henry. The newer guys are stepping up but he is still pretty productive in moving the ball and that is really what you want you offense to do. Now if we can start putting the ball in the endzone we will be just fine.

  38. GO CUTLER says:

LETS PLAY 1 GAME AT A TIME AND WIN . THAT WAS A GREAT TEAM WIN AGAINST THE CHIEFS . I STILL HOPE JAVON PLAYS SOON. JAY WILL GET BETTER EVERY GAME . I REALLY ENJOY WATCHING THE BRONCOS PLAYING AGGRESSIVE .!!! GO BRONCOS!!1

  39. vraptor567 says:

not to undermine the efforts of the offense but how long has it been since the D held to 11 points? hard to beat most teams if they score 40 points or more so I think the D needs a lot of credit in this game and lets hope to see it for the rest of the season. But I love to see Cutler run the team down field and even better when they actually get some TD’s on the board (I’m glad Elam wins games with FG’s but its just not the same). Hopefully this is a trend of the whole team coming together, makes me proud to wear the orange and blue. GO BRONCOS

  40. bronco_hyde says:

All you Henry Bashers . . . do you really think you are smarter than Shannahan? Shanny is the one who knows what Henry promised, and Shanny is the one who has the best ability to decide whether Henry broke his promise or not.
As far as the “tests” go. The one sample that was supposedly positive was a Urine sample in which they found “TRACE ELEMENTS THAT MAY INDICATE MARIJUANA”. That doesn’t sound very definititve to me. Nothing has claimed it was a definitive test, just a maybe. Besides the fact that the test didn’t follow the leagues own procedures, and could have been contaminated at any point. You people know what the league is like. Lately they have just been on a rampage. They don’t really care what is accurate, the just look for smoke and figure there is fire.

Why do you think Henry requested a hair follicle test and a lie detector? It’s because he’s innocent . . . . or at least he believes he’s innocent. A hair follicle is a much more accurate test than a urine sample, and there is no chance of it being accidentally contaminated.

Now I really doubt that the league will care at this point, and they might suspend Henry just because they want to. Also, I am also of the opinion that Selvin is better for the team than Henry and I’d prefer to see Selvin starting. That having been said, I hate the way you all are jumping all over Henry for something that he probably didn’t do. I agree that Henry putting himself in position to get some 2nd hand smoke (as the rumors suggest) was pretty stupid. I agree that he’s not a very good guy. But that does not change the fact that he should be presumed innocent until some legitimate proof surfaces.
I personally would love to see Selvin starting and Henry as a backup. Henry is at least better than any of the backups we have, and a decreased workload for him would mean less chance of all these persistant injuries he’s getting. It would be a good 1-2 combination.

I don’t think Cutler played as well as he has in the past, but considering the injury it doesn’t bother me. He played hurt, and did well enough to win the game.
I also hope Lynch and Walker are back for Monday, but even if not, I think we’ve got the guys to fill in for them. Keeping my fingers crossed for a win! GO Broncos.

Well about Henry. In my opinion I think that we should give him another chance. I don’t think its fair that we should just wash away a NFL veteran because he hasn’t been playing well I think that if we makes alive out of the whole “YOU SMOKED A JOINT “ ordeal he should share carries with the rookie. As for the commitment to RB’s over the years I think that Clinton Portis is a elite back but that doesn’t matter much it really and it didn’t matter much in Washington because as long as I can remember Washington hasn’t really done anything to be a power house. And if Selvin Young stays hungry and really wants the position we will take his game to the next level I think we see a lot of players come and leave what im trying to say is that we could stick to somebody like him we can get through the hole underrated if you are not drafted just because you where looked over in the HOLE six seven rounds doesn’t mean they cant productive. Drafting a back should not be a option we should draft a somebody on the offensive line.

Well, that’s settled, Henry passed the tests and is good to go. Also, the Colts picked up Simeon Rice…if they bounce back and win the Super Bowl with Rice contributing in any way, I’m just going to smack my forehead, thanks.

Cutler is only in his second yr. Has played pretty good and is getting better. Look at Alex Smith, been in the league for a couple of years and he looks like he is getting worse. Cutler is going to be awesome!

Adam Vinateri is a very bad kicker. He will NEVER make it into the Hall of Fame unless he fixes that problem.Indy needed that win so the Chargers could be tied with the Broncos And the Chiefs.Mike,if you read this,I bet you would agree with me:Try to win the rest of your games but PLEASE don’t feel pressured by this message.

    Sighned,

I don’t personally care what Henry smokes so long as he racks up the yards on gameday, but we have yet to see the big running plays out of him so far. That is my only complaint about him, but if he doesn’t follow up on a promise to Shanny well…… we know where that goes.
