1:20 P.M. MST: The trips back to Colorado from Detroit and Kansas City in recent days couldn’t have been more different. Take the bus-ride portions of the journeys, for instance. Eight days ago, the last vehicle in the four-bus convoy — the one which I traditionally ride, which is usually populated with guests, staffers, radio-network people, et. al. — was virtually silent, save for muted snippets of conversation that could barely be heard from one seat away. Last night, however, dozens of chats could be clearly heard, as could some raucous laughter from throughout the cabin. Just one of the many differences between winning and losing.
Why do I mention this? I’m not sure; I just needed something to open today’s press-conference blog. More to come when Shanahan arrives.
1:30 P.M. MST: Here we go.
1:31 P.M. MST: Tight end Tony Scheffler is “just a little sore” and Shanahan doesn’t think it will keep him out of practice … Travis Henry’s knee is “still just a little bit swollen” and he will undergo an MRI examination “just to be sure.” … Henry’s hearing will be on Friday with the NFL. “We’ll find out what happens shortly thereafter — how shortly, I’m not sure.
1:32 P.M. MST: Shanahan said that if Henry’s test was positive, he would not be on the football team. “We’ll let due process take care of itself … but if the test was positive, after what he promised me, he would not be on this football team.”
1:32 P.M. MST: Thinks he will hear about the result of Henry’s hearing “the week after” it takes place in Phoenix.
1:33 P.M. MST: Shanahan said that a hair sample on Henry came back negative, and that he underwent a lie-detector test. “If he tested positive after the commitment he made to me, he would not be with this team,” Shanahan said.
1:34 P.M. MST: “Knowing our commissioner, he’ll definitely give (Henry) a fair shake.”
1:34 P.M. MST: On Selvin Young: “It doesn’t surprise me because he’s been doing this since preseason; you can see the speed, explosiveness and quickness in practice … Travis wanted to play (at Kansas City), I just didn’t think it was the best thing for our football team since he didn’t practice during the week … You’ve got to go with the guys that practice and the guys you feel good about.”
1:35 P.M. MST: Said that he didn’t want to take a chance with John Lynch until the numbness resulting from his stinger went away.
1:36 P.M. MST: Said he thought Hamza Abdullah and Domonique Foxworth would provide more range in the passing game … and when asked whether Abdullah would stay in the lineup, Shanahan said, “You’ll have to see Monday night.”
1:37 P.M. MST: When asked whether he watched Adam Vinatieri’s missed field-goal attempt, Shanahan asked, “Which one?”
1:37 P.M. MST: “The thing that we did well last week was that we got better each week — good practices, sense of urgency. We took it over to game day. I was really impressed with our players and how they handled things last week.”
1:38 P.M. MST: Said that Javon Walker is probably a “long shot” to play next Monday … “He’s got to get extra reps during the week” … “I’m keeping my fingers crossed.” … “We’ll just have to wait and see … I don’t think it’ll be good for Monday night.”
1:39 P.M. MST: On Josh Mallard playing 46 plays five days after he signed: “It shows you we needed some help.”
1:40 P.M. MST: Said next week’s game with Tennessee almost like a division game because of his familiarity with Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, with whom Shanahan is close and converses frequently.
1:40 P.M. MST: And … we’re done.

That was for the people with hair test questions
i think they did good on Sunday, you know… they brought what they did during practice to the game, they have a pretty good shot at being on top of this division, but if Broncos loose to Tennessee on Monday, then i guess there’s no hope, they gotta go out there and play a good game each week… and if they try hard, and get some of the young guys to work, then they might win this division..
i still think they have shot because this AFC West is sooo bad…
just one question…
WAT IS GOING ON WIT THE MIAMI DOLPHINS?????
My KC highlight was watching Selvin Young play very well THEN reading his after game thoughts. His football talents are there and we should see a promising future. His character for me, was admirable. I believe we have another very good young football player. One that knows it’s a long road for greatness, he is 150% committed to bettering his game but most importantly knows that Bronco Country is watching. Respect the game and the players that came before you. I truley think he sees and believes that. As he said “I’m living a dream!”
LPP – I seriously want you to respond to me if you can. Why? Why do you continue to push this plummer thing? I’ve read all of your posts, as well as everyone else’s. At first it was amusing. Now, it’s like borderline juvenile. I think you know football. You have in the past made some good points. But this plummer vs. Cutler thing….Come on Man! It’s one thing to back certain players, it’s another to live in the past. If you’re upset Shanny benched him fine, but don’t come down on a kid that has played very, very well. You have to give him that. Like I said, I know you know football. I also know you believe Cutler is a better player & fit for this team now. If I’m wrong you tell me. Cutler will surely have his share of bad games. KC was not a mileston for him..But if you can sit down and type to me that you believe Plummer is and will end up being a better QB than Cutler, I’ll assume you’re being honest and move on. If not, leave Cutler out of the equation. Doesn’t it strike you odd, that in all his greatness, Plummer retired? Didn’t want to play. Had the chance and said “no”..
I certainly mean no dissrespect by any of this.
So many of you make excellent points on here. I’ll give my two cents, take them for what they are worth. I never hated or really liked Plummer either way. To tell you the truth, I always held my breath because at any moment he could make a great play or a bonehead play and change the complexion of the game for the good or the bad. Many of us Elway lovers (this includes me) forget that he threw a lot of interceptions too, but we tended to forgive him because he A) made to Superbowls early in his career B) Won Superbowls late in his career, and C) had defining moments that Plummer lacked such as “The Drive” The first Broncos game that I ever got to witness live (in live in Kansas unfortunately) was a season ending game against Jake Plummer and the Cardinals. Towards the end of the 39-9 pounding we dished out, people were chanting “we want Jake,” in relation to swirling rumors that Griese was out and that we were going to pursue Jake, I looked at my buddy and said, why? Well long story short, Griese and Jake were always the scapegoat for losses and to tell you the truth, I never saw many losses as their “fault.” I mean football is a team sport. Cutler does possess many qualities of both Elway and a franchise quarterback and I am excited about his future with the Broncos. If I may, I think our biggest problems are letting talent go too early (see numerous player cuts over the last few years) and a decent defensive coordinator who has a scheme to compliment the stellar talent our defense has.
Lot’s of good points today. 1st, on Henry. If he smoked pot then he’ll be gone. It’s a shame NFL players cannot be disciplined enough to avoid these issues while they are playing in the league. However, I have another point. Nobody cares that these players are taking every known “Legal” narcotics. Thats right, they are prescribed pain killers, muscle relaxers, etc. all which are very addictive. How come that is not part of the NFL’s policy. Oh but it’s ok, because you have a prescription, some of you will say. Here’s what happens with people who smoke marijuana. They relax, they don’t wake up feeling hung-over and they don’t have a dependency on pot, like they do perscription Narcotics. The perscription drugs are abused!!!! The physical dependency is gut wrenching to those it happens to. These players are asked to play injured, broken, and beat-up. They sell their soles to play this game. I do believe it is a privelage for the players to make their living playing a game, so he should be commited enough to say “NO”. Cause the truth of the matter is, his career is a sort span of life. After the NFL he can smoke as much as he wants, and nobody will care as long as he is discreet about it. Now as far as his play goes, I read a comment that stated he has no heart. I don’t believe that for one minute. He is a hard runner, he doesn’t have Young’s speed and quickness though. Henry is also injured and has been pretty much all season. Selvin should be the starter at this point because he ignites a fire that is normally not there.
Lets not be fooled by this offensive performance either. They played a very, very sloppy game and have not been very impressive all year. Sure their are flashes of greatness, and I think in time they will be better. The offense is far to inconsistent at this point due to lack of continuity. Also the coaches, thats right, the coaches, have not used Cutler in the appropriate fashion. He is at his best outside of the pocket period. When standing in the pocket, from under center he has a lot of batted passes. The offensive line, even with injuries has played pretty well all year, however, Cutler is a on the move QB. He has better vision on the move, and his passes have more on them when he has time to stop, set-up, and fire the pigskin. When he is forced inside the pocket his passes seem to be that as some of you stated a “game managing QB” and he has trouble with the def. line because his vision is limited. The offense all year has shot itself in the foot. They have 2 out 8 drives that result in success and then forget how to play in the rest of the game. I was happy this week that they were able to close out a win w/o Elams leg. But this win is because the Defense played their hearts out and the KC Cheifs are not a good football team. If we can win two in a row in this fashion with the offense putting up more scoring drives and the defense becoming more stingy, then I’ll scream and shout. I’m just glad they won this week. This season has showed one thing to me, They never quit, haven’t layed down, even after getting humiliated by SD & Detroit. This team has heart and character, it’s just that the other powerhouses in the league really are that much better than our beloved Broncos. Here’s to whippin Tennesees but, GO BRONCOS!!!!!! “IT’S NEVER OVER”!!!!! Keep on pushin.
OK! Henry Did you Or Did you not, that is the Question. Also what hapened too Mike Bell,If he cannot run,why not pitch and catch. Oh too be a Bronco with some insight. As I was a season ticket holder in Sf 95,as the pizza guy for 4949 Centennal Dr.Santa Clara,I watched as Steve Young would tell Mike what he saw. Can Mike again see throug the eyes of his QB? If he lets the eggo go,as Iam now a Bronco fan,and still a Mikie fan, super times are at hand.
