Some thoughts from the North team’s morning practice:
USC defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis: A man among boys. I opted to watch the one-on-one line drills closely on Wednesday morning, and Ellis was utterly dominant, throwing blockers out of his way. With North Carolina’s Kentwan Balmer out with a hamstring injury, Ellis could be the strongest defensive lineman here.

Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco was back in his old college helmet on Wednesday, and had his best performance of the week, doing particularly well in goal-line and red-zone work that ended the practice. As with many players that come to Mobile from outside of what is now officially called the “Football Bowl Subdivision,” Flacco seemed to have some issues adjusting to the tempo at first, but has shown some rapid progress.

You love to see receivers getting downfield to block, as Virginia Tech’s Eddie Royal did here to impede USC’s Terrell Thomas. However, I reckon Cal running back Justin Forsett wishes that Royal had managed to hold off Thomas just a little longer, since he still managed to stop Forsett a few yards upfield.

Royal did have some nice catches today, as he has all week. He is an intriguing prospect, to say the least, especially given his outstanding work on returns for the Hokies in recent years.
Over on the main site, clock on the audio/video tab to hear from Colorado linebacker Jordan Dizon, with whom we caught up after the morning practice.
Until next time, vaya con Dios … and I promise I’ll make time to get to some of the questions posed in the last three or four blog entries before I go to bed tonight, so keep posting there and below if you want to know what I think of other specific players and other topics from down here.
Time to head to the afternoon practice. More to follow.

We need a returner and a deep threat, Royal would be a great addition in the 2nd round. I don’t see him falling too far past the middle of the 2nd round anyway. Glad to hear that Balmer has shown he’s a beast, I hope he’s not too seriously injured though. I wonder if he could maintain a 300lbs frame throughout the season?
Flacco destroyed my downstate DSU Hornets. He is big and has a good arm. I think he will become a good pro. Just stay out of the AFC west.
did anybody else see that LIons D tackle Shaun Rodgers is either going to be traded or released soon…….im sure denver fans remember how he treated us and our running game this year in Detroit……I say that he would be a huge boost to our defense……he alone would clog up the middle and allow who ever we got a LB to run rampid.
I am with you ramoskithefan. I think Shaun Rodgers would be a great addition to the defence. Then we could focus on a LT or Saftey in the first round. Maybe we can pick up Okam in the second round to pair up with Rodgers.
I thinks we should also trade Javon for Vilma. It would help both teams. DJ could slide back to the outside
Shaun Rodgers would be a good fit. But trubroncofan07 you dont seriously think the jets would trade vilma for javon? I say we take philips at 12 then get dt and lb 2nd and 3rd, then pick up ol help later like the broncos always do. Remember the last 1st rounder at ol we had (George Foster)? All of our linemen are late rounders. Nalen, Lepsis, Hamilton, Harris, etc.
We should really try to get Shaun Rodgers, he is a beast in the middle. He would help shore up our RUN D really quick and allow us to us to use our first round pick on another need. Also I think we should keep Javon, we would have a great recieving core with Marshall, Javon, and Stokley. Opposing Defence could never cover all those guys. I think we should trade henry and pick up a RB in the later rounds of the Draft, maybe Kevin Smith. We should dry to get Briggs from chicago, that would take care of our LB’s. I also think we should shore up our secondary for the future, Bly is good but over rated and Champ is still amazing but i think we should take a shot at Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, The guy is 6-3 and runs a crazy 40-time around a 4.30. His cousin is of course the SD Bolts, CB Cromartie and look how good that guy is. We need a big, fast, corner and face it Bly is none of those. Plus he would be a great KR/PR with that blazing speed.

it says the Lions would be expecting a 1st day pick but probably not a first round pick. That would be amazing if we could get him and still draft phillips in the first round.
I agree with GnarlyBroncos, marshall, walker, and stokely, along with the bronco running game would be unstoppable.
I think we should keep Walker to but he might not restructure his contract, which we would then cut him. We also don’t have 3rd round pick this year. Phillips would be great! but maybe getting Clady would better value with this pick. I am a little worried about having Ryan Harris protecting Cutler’s blind side next year.
don’t slide D.J. Back to the outside. He did a great job this year. Shaun Rodgers would be a great fit for our D-line, and a little cheaper than Hayneworth cause he a free agent too i think. If we can pick one of those two up, then we should draft a first round safety or tackle, and get a second round running back.
Andrew, thanks for your interview with Tashard Choice.
He’d be a great fit here in Denver and he sounds like a real nice guy.
Keep up the great work, and rest assured - you’re gettin’ plugged on every update I put out.
Thanks so much!
i agree with you all. An addition of Shaun Rodgers would immediately boost our DL….now we can focus on getting Phillips in the first round…get OLB Xavier Adibi in the second round, and another tackle in the 3rd or a RB.
As for the DB depth, I agree with Gnarlybroncos. We should get Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Dwight Lowery. They practically have the same physical talents.(can return kicks, speed coverage, physical).
Don’t forget Whatley from CU. Lock down corner could be a gret kick off and punt return guy as well. We REALLY need offensive line help though.
If I may interject, you can never have too much depth at linebacker or in the secondary. I think there are several good safeties and corners we could draft in order to assist Champ, Dre’ and Fox. The players I really like at linebacker is Arizona’s Spencer Larsen. He’s a tackling machine like Jessie Tuggle who used to play for the Falcons. He’d be a great addition, but I trust Shanny and Mr. Sundquist will make the right decisions.
Trust me, you do not want Shaun Rodgers, I live here in Detroit but I have always been a Broncos fan, I only cheer for one team and that is my Broncos, but I get to see the Lions and by the way I was at that Lions game when we got beat down, Shaun Rodgers had so many off the field issues one of them was a rape in the back of a strip club but the charges was droped, he is way out of shape he can not play but maybe 2 downs at a time then he has to set on the bench and rest, all of the local radio shows are glad to see him go he is a bad bad bad seed to have in the locker room please don’t ask for him stay away he is one of the reasons that Dre wanted out of Detroit, Just Say No To Shaun Rodgers.
whoa! is all that about Shaun Rodgers true Detroit Reggie??wow,,thanks for warning us early. we dont want another player with off the field issues,,we dont want another set bak…
then the team should look out for DTs in the draft…
I completely agree with Detroit Reggie. Shaun Rogers started each year as a huge promise and ended at best as a medium disappointment. He had surgery during his suspension last season. His ankles and knees have to carry 380 pounds. He is still recovering from running back that 66 yd INT against us. Most Broncos fans have seen him only once last year - in his best game of the season. I follow the Lions a bit and wouldn’t want him in Denver (…although, if I look at his potential … no, I don’t believe in his willingness to be disciplined). By the way, Detroit News hinted, the Lions might trade him for a mid round pick and were hoping for a third rounder. That shows how he is valued by his team or the local press.
On the discussion about DJ as MLB: He had a huge number of tackles, which proves (what noone ever doubted) that he is a great athlete and can take his man down. Why did he need to tackle this much? His gap was most appealing to opposing RB’s. He tends to react too early, leave his assignement in order to help and thus creates an open lane. His stats look great, but I see him as an important part of the problem “inconsistent front 7″.
i think we need to pick up kenney phillips and sean rogers at dt trade javon walker for a 3rd pick and pick up turner fron san diego if he go Fa 2nd round pick wide out sweed from texas tall strong
Yah rodgers is still a premere d tackle in the league he still had 7 sacks for a D tackle, in what yalll are saying limited action…he in a rotation would be a great fit…dont forget hanynesworth has his issues also….i still wouldnt want Rodgers if its true about the rape cuz who wants that around..but if its not then give him a shot in a diffrent setting…he is still a beast!!! and better then warren, myers, mckinley, luther ellis, he with Thomas would be great!
