Don,

Thank you so much for your comment. Hopefully once the engineers fix the mistakes in the levies the people of NO won't have to face such a horrific tragedy again. I will definitely keep you posted if I am able to set something up!

tjames238,

Your mom was right about the French Quarter looking great compared to the rest of the city. Because of the Sea Wall, the Quarter was pretty much protected. I can't imagine the devastation that your family was able to see so soon after the storm. It's great to hear that your aunt was safe though! Thank you also for your second comment. We (cheerleaders) always appreciate when the fans can see us for ourselves rather than just a Broncos Cheerleader. So I truly enjoyed that comment.

Hey Melissa. I really appreciate this BLOG. I am not from nor have I ever been to New Orleans. My mom and all her family however are from New Orleans. Most of her family had moved to areas on the outskirts of NO and even to other cities in Louisana. One older aunt still lived in the area that was flooded but never left. Her house actually was the only one on her block not to get damaged. This aunt is really good friends with the Manning's. She has pictures of Eli and Peyton when they came down with relief efforts to help. They actually came by to check on her. How cool? My mom went down to a funeral about 6 months after Katrina and she said it looked like it had happened the day before. It was Mardi Gras time and the French Quarter was looking better but she said NO itself was like a desolate town. She said she saw cars that were overturned, trees smashed into houses, just a really horrible scene. It is just really sad living in America to know that this place needs help yet we send money, supplies and troops over to Iraq to fight in a war we had no reason or business starting. That actually is another article all in itself so I will stop for now. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write this. I am going to send this to my mom because I know she will really enjoy reading it.

Hi Melissa,

I've been to New Orleans once, but it was about seven years ago - long before the flood. My heart really goes out to all of the victims who lost their homes and, in some cases, their lives or their loved ones. And, like you, I admire how all of the people have dealt with this disaster.

I've heard that the population is only about half of what it was before the flood and that a lot of people have decided to make new lives for themselves in Baton Rouge, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and, as you mentioned, a few in Denver. I guess that's understandable since the city is below sea level and if it happened once, it could happen again.

I think what you are doing in building a green space or playground for the kids there is really wonderful. I'm not surprised that you would make that kind of a commitment - it's exactly the kind of thing Bronco Cheerleaders do and what makes all of you so special. If you get a fund set up I hope you'll let us know - as I would be glad to make a modest donation.

Thanks for sharing your experience and your dream.
