Preparing for Primetime

November 16th, 2011 - 4:54pm by Rahim Moore

I’ll tell you what, last week was great. It’s funny, with those type of stats, you’d think it’s tough to win, but we did it. Our coaches, they’re working their butts off. The win was definitely a turning point for us and I’m blessed and happy for this team. I was just watching the offense and kept getting more and more excited.

For an opposing defense, It’s tough, man. Because nobody wants to get run on. I just thank God that the things we’ve been doing as a team have been working. I just pray to God that everything keeps going and we give Broncos Country this good football they deserve.

Now we’ve got Thursday Night Football, primetime, the only show in town. I’m excited. But when it’s all said and done, I want to share it amongst these guys, my teammates. I’m looking forward to the challenge, seeing our guys going out there and balling out.

It’s the third straight USC quarterback we’re about to play — first Carson Palmer, then Matt Cassel, now Mark Sanchez. Being a UCLA guy, it’s funny. But Mark Sanchez is probably one of the best quarterbacks I played against in college. He really motivated me for my first offseason because of the things he did to me when I was a freshman. So I’m looking forward to the challenge. That dude, he’s a competitor, and I’ll say it — he came from a great program. He’s cut from that cloth. So it’ll be fun out there tomorrow night.

…BFE 92… I couldnt put it beter myself, besides skip bayless and the women from sports nation everybody else doesnt give him a chance. I just want the defenses to pick up a tiny bit on the run so they will call pass plays aswell as the run. If we can combined the run and pass offense no defense will b able to compete.

Jeremiah Johnson ran the option at Oregon so he may be called upon and possibly utilized, even thoroughly, this game. Of course this depending on a myriad of factors ie., how McGahee looks to the trainers, doc’s and coaches, and how he feels before game time. Also how effective Ball is on the hand-offs he gets including how he hits his gaps.

What I like about McGahee is that he has PATIENCE, a quality that is sometimes overlooked but shows how much of a vet he is. (Something Moreno lacked, until seeing it from McGahee — a day late and a dollar short, too bad for him.)

“I was thinking ‘I can do this,’” Johnson was quoted. Well, he may have an his opportunity. imo… It most likely will be Ball taking the lions share of the hand-offs — with Fox trying to preserve McGahee, as not to further aggravate his injury.

While looking at some old youtube footage of JJ; he looked good in the option. I don’t know his 40 time but he looked kinda slow, when he would break-off big runs, he would have a hole big enough to drive a Mack Truck through.

The only thing I hope he’s worked on is his ball handling skills. On one of his runs, out of the option, he went 88 yards shaking off a couple would be tacklers… but one popped the ball up with a simple swipe at it, after bobbling it for a moment he did regain control while running it in for the TD, I just hope he can hold it high and tight in the open field and two hands on it in traffic. If he can do these things, this could be JJs time to shine.

I am in no way, shape, or form badgering anyone (well I guess I’ll “badger” you real quick — just for kicks lol). How is Moreno going to be a factor down the stretch this season? Riddle me that, obviously you didn’t catch any news coming out of the Broncos’ organization this week. Right orangut? Nada huh?

So I’ll let you in on a lil secret just between you and I ok? Moreno is OUT for the season, placed on IR with a torn right ACL. So if he’s going to be a “big factor down the stretch” it’ll have to be him carried by his teammates up and down the field.

I actually was pointing out how he was starting to develop patience and how promising it would have been had he stayed healthy. He was becoming a good 3rd down back but I digress — yup he’s out for the season and for bays sanity that’s the last time I’ll bring up Moreno lol

Sorry orangut but you set yourself up for a little jabbing there lol, all in good fun though.

    LETS GO BRONCOS!!!

I was having a look at the Jets blog this morning. Not a very confident bunch. Hope the players feel the same. Having no pass rush keeps popping up. I wonder if this is the game were Tebow throws alot and puts the Jets completley out of sync.

I notice alot of score predictions have been low scoring. I went high as a bit like the start of the season with no preperation defences were getting battered. I feel this will be similar with a short turn around.

By the way left a message on there blog saying ” we are gonna clean your clocks tonite”. Hope they have a sense of humour.

Funny, Moreno will be a factor down the stretch this season, hahahaha, more like it’s a fact he is on a stretcher for good this season… It does do wonders to keep up with Bronco news to be able to talk about things Broncos, in fact there is a section titled that way in the DP and I bet you the Moreno placed on IR bit was on there, just have to inform yourself to be able to talk like an informed guy, LOL.

    Anyhow,

    GAMEDAY!

Always feel weird to say that in the middle of the week.

All picks are in, no picks on gameday, ever.

    Final tally:

    7 Jets
    56 Broncos

Good luck to everyone and GO BRONCOS!

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Actually a few of us here went low scoring I included but the vast majority went high scoring.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

In fact I went second lowest, looking for major points since the one who went lower posted a funny score of 3-2 Bronco win.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, champster with his late 21 point Bronco win prediction took the heat off daddy and arch for the WOS in case the Broncos lose, haha.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Even so this has hardly anything to do with the league right now, it brought back wonderful memories for me courtesy of Terry Frei:

The NFL has become more pass oriented since 1977, the Broncos’ first Super Bowl season.

But in the wake of all the attention paid the limited number of Tim Tebow pass attempts in his stint as Denver’s starting quarterback, it’s interesting to note that Craig Morton threw the ball sparingly too in 1977 — and was named the AFC player of the year by United Press International and won the NFL comeback player of the year award.

Morton played only one series in the final regular-season game, when the Broncos (12-2) had the AFC West title clinched, so it’s probably fair to average his statistics over 13 games. Using that 13-game standard, he averaged 10 completions and 148 yards passing per game.

In two victories, over Buffalo and Oakland, he didn’t crack 100 yards passing. He also threw for only 108 yards against Cincinnati and 101 against Pittsburgh.

Significantly, Denver went 8-0 in the games in which Morton threw for 108 yards or fewer.

Of course, a virtual statue in the pocket at age 34 — he once had been a star outfielder before his knees were injured — Morton was no running threat at all.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

I guess Frei went on comparaison shopping today:

The young NFL quarterback operating under a white-hot media spotlight went 1-for-8 passing, for 14 yards. His team won, and he was moved to say after the game: “Based on statistics, I was terrible. But based on the decisions I made, I was pleased with my performance.”

That was the Broncos’ John Elway in the visiting team’s dressing room at Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium, shortly after Denver rallied to beat the Steelers 14-10 in the Sept. 4, 1983, season opener.

After suffering a badly bruised elbow, he gave way to veteran Steve DeBerg for the second half. While DeBerg engineered the winning drive and threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ron Egloff with 4:54 remaining, he threw only sparingly, and the Denver totals for the day wound up 5-for-16 passing, for only 49 yards.

The five completions matched the lowest total for the Broncos in a victory, and it had previously happened in 1965, 1974, and 1978. Denver hadn’t won with five or fewer completions since until Tim Tebow was 2-for-8, for 69 yards, in the Broncos’ 17-10 victory at Kansas City on Sunday.

And there even seemed to be a bit of a quarterback controversy, with one school of thought being that Denver was rushing Elway.

“I can’t figure out this quarterback situation anyway,” DeBerg said that afternoon. “I’m just going with the flow.”

Again making it clear that he wasn’t going to be a willing backup, or even a cordial tutor for Elway, DeBerg noted: “Everybody has to learn. You don’t just come into the league and do it even if you were a great college quarterback. You can’t get by on talent alone in the NFL.”

Elway was on the sideline for the second half, with his arm bandaged.

“I’m going to have to learn how to throw with a pad on my elbow if I have to play on AstroTurf,” he said. “I first hurt my elbow in Minnesota (on artificial turf) last week. It was fine before the game, but every time I hit the ground, I landed on the elbow and it got worse.”

Elway added: “If I play like that and we win, I’ll be happy. Steve came in and did a great job in the second half. . . . I’m just not throwing well. I think I’m trying too hard to be careful and not make mistakes.”

Denver coach Dan Reeves noted: “John has some rough spots. He’s definitely in a learning process.”

    Any of that sound familiar?

All and all really neat step back into time, thanks Frei!

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Like OC would say, back to the future.

  13. shaztah says:

I really hope that Elway does read these blogs because maybe your comments and links etc. will help him remember the difficulties he had instead of only his accomplishmets. Hopefully he sees a little of himself in Tim and decides that he is worth taking the time to develope and nurture. I would hate to see Denver lose Tim because when he does become the dual threat he is will be nearly impossible to beat. I have seen the team make huge strides in the last few weeks. I do think they are playing with more confidence and passion. Even the stupid analysts recognize that the teams mentality and drive has changed for the better. I really hope Tim goes like 12 of 16 for 268 yards and 2 TD’s, then lets see what the so called experts say. They will probably say it was a fluke or the Jet’s D was still reeling from the NE loss and it was a short week etc. Anything not to give Tim or the team credit.

Mr. Rex… it is our pleasure to introduce to you VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!! Have a pleasant afternoon…

  15. CarnageBronc says:

Why do people keep expecting the Broncos to put up these huge passing numbers? Fox has said that Tebow can’t throw…so why do people ask that? Not a Tebow jab…just want to get some clarification as to what people are thinking.

  16. seweatherman1 says:

What is such a big deal about passing? Cam Newton is throwing huge numbers, but they are loosing, so what is the big deal about passing? If you can win running the ball, then run it. We are winning. That is all that matters.

  17. seweatherman1 says:

    shaztah,
The analysts and all those that talk about Tebow not being able to pass are just the ones that have forgotten their own first year or two in this league. If you check any of their numbers, 99% of them had terrible passing numbers as well as win/loss numbers in their first couple years.

The difference here is, this is Tim Tebow. He must come into this league and be perfect across the board or else he is no good for our team. He must continue to win or he will be out. That is why he is “game to game” as Fox says. One other thing against Tim Tebow is that he is a product of Josh McDaniels, and he is hated for that too.

Actually, Tim Tebow is in a no win situation, at least here he is. This is what you call having the deck stacked against you.

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton put up a lot of passes and yards, but we lost,I’ll take the wins!!

  20. Atwater4HOF says:

Throwing the ball is much easier when we have success running the ball. The Jets are going to stack 8 in the box consistently. There will be a lot of 1 on 1 coverage on the outside. As long as we stay away from Revis we should be ok.

Hopefully David Harris doesn’t play for the Jets. Saw he was questionable earlier in the week. That will definitely help our cause since he is a fantastic player.

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

Ignore the David Harris part, he’s no longer listed on the injury report. That’s what I get for finishing a post before checking haha

AMAZING, ASTOUNDING stuff bay, where do you find these absolute gems of Broncos history? some of the stuff you come up with. And you are correct sir and all this stuff about #7 said this and that and the tebowites getting their panties all in a bunch, someday will to be looked at when there is a new name, Tim Tebow going up on the ring of fame and he’s up there in his own suite at the New Mile High Super stadium and Tim looks down at the new kid on the block and it all starts over again..There is nothing new under the sun. Go broncos beat the Electricheads!!
