We win!
Me and my main man Hamza Abdullah filled in at safety. Hamza is definitely one of my closest friends on the team. I’ve talked about him a lot on the blog before and how he’s a very good young safety. We were able to start together at safety for the Kansas City game, and all week practicing together we just had a great time. We had fun communicating and making plays all week during practice. It was a whole lot of fun, and then of course the game was even more fun. There’s definitely something special about playing and performing with somebody that you have a pretty good friendship with. While you’re on the field you feel really close to everybody out there and you want everybody to do well, but there’s something different about being out there with guys that you really care about. I think the people in the secondary, we all really care about each other and we’re close friends.
It was just a great performance by the team overall, and there were some great plays in the secondary. There were a bunch of interceptions, and unfortunately I was not able to get one, but it doesn’t really matter. We won. That’s all that matters, because we are now winners. I like being a winner. Being a loser stinks. I don’t think I want to be a loser anymore. I’d like to win a lot more games.
Something else that happened in the game that was amazing was that Karl Paymah got an interception. I was very happy to see it. Hamza kind of tipped it to him and it was a great play, but we always joke around with Karl about not having any interceptions in his career, and not having hands, and jokes like that. But he made a play, and I guess the jokes have to stop. Nah, jokes never stop around here. He’ll still get it. It’s not like it was a clean pick. It was kind of a tip that fell into his lap, so I think we’ll make fun of him about that.
We decided earlier in the week, on Wednesday, as a team that we needed to change the culture of our team and rededicate ourselves to winning, rededicate ourselves to preparing well, and just recognize that time was running out on our season. There was no more time for growing and getting better, it was time for us to start playing better. There was a lot of talk throughout the week, and the captains of the team and the leaders of the team spoke out several times to make sure we were all focused and practiced as well as we could, which would prepare us for the game on the coming weekend. Before the game, D.J. Williams had a quote that was pretty accurate. We had a bunch of talk throughout the week and motivation, but D.J. said to the team, “Let’s let the pads do the talking,” and we did.
I definitely had on my big safety pads, and I guess there was a point when I was a very good, promising young corner. These days, I still think I’m a good, promising young player, but it appears that at least in the eyes of the Denver Broncos coaching staff, I am a safety. I’ve started more games this year at safety, and I think I’ve probably started as many games in my career at safety than I have at corner at this point, which is incredibly shocking to me. Looking back on it as I was coming into the league, it’s something that I never expected to have to do. But it’s working out great for this team so far, and myself so far.
We just had a lot of fun, on defense especially, throughout the game. We communicated well and we made a lot of big plays, and we were excited to see everybody make plays. I think the chemistry, especially in the secondary, was really great. We were on the same page for the entire game, and times when Hamza would miss a check, I was there to put us in the right defense, and vice versa. As for the rest of the defense, we put a lot of pressure on our corners this game, and they stepped up. The whole defense stepped up. The defense had three interceptions, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and four sacks.
I had an opportunity to get an interception. I think I was more surprised that the guy threw it than anything, because I had good coverage on an early third down in the game, and I tried to fight off the receiver with my left hand and catch the ball with my right hand, but I wasn’t able to pull that move off. Maybe next time I’ll try to get two hands on it and not worry about the receiver so much. I’m definitely a little ticked off that I didn’t get that interception, because you don’t get many chances for interceptions. Even if it’s a tough play to make, you need to make those. It seems like everybody has interceptions these days, except for me. Even Elvis Dumervil has an interception, and young Marcus Thomas has an interception, and just about everybody in the secondary. Well, none of the safeties have interceptions, so I guess I need to be the first safety to get an interception. I’m definitely going to do my part to try to make plays for this team and for me.
Unfortunately, earlier in the week a college teammate of mine and a pretty close friend, Curome Cox, got cut. It was upsetting, but it’s the nature of this business. There’s always surprises and curveballs that you never expect to come out of left field. That was definitely a surprise. He was a great player for us on special teams and a versatile player on defense that filled in when necessary. But that is the nature of this business. One week we’re teammates, the next week you’re home. But I actually talked to him on Monday morning, and he is signing with the Houston Texans, which I was very excited to hear. I’m happy for him to be employed again and what’s even better is we get to play against him. That’s exciting. I like playing against my college teammates or ex-Broncos. It just gives you a little something else, a little extra bragging rights. But like I said, I’m happy for him. He went on down to Houston where there’s a lot of Broncos in the front office. I assume that had something to do with it, that they remember him and his talent when he was here.
Speaking of playing against ex-college teammates, we get the Tennessee Titans on Monday night, and they have Randy Starks, a college teammate of mine. We came in the same class and did some great things at Maryland together — conference championships, beating Tennessee in the Peach Bowl and blowing out West Virginia in the Gator Bowl. We just had a great time at the University of Maryland and he’s playing well out in Tennessee. I’m proud of him and look forward to the opportunity to gain some bragging rights over another player.
The challenge of going against Vince Young should be a great one for this defense. We’ve played some mobile quarterbacks, but I think Vince is past mobile. I wouldn’t describe him as mobile. He is dynamic. He is super-mobile. He is a great athlete. He’s still a young quarterback, which is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it works to your advantage to be young and super-mobile.
Speaking of Young, Selvin Young had a great game, who I believe is Vince Young’s old roommate. Selvin had a great game for us and he’s been stepping up since Travis Henry has gone down. I think that’s one of the really great things about this team that we have, is everyone is expected to fill in or fulfill whatever role is asked of them. They all do a great job, and Selvin had a 100-yard game against a tough Kansas City defense. Offensively, I think we made a lot of plays that we had to make, when it was time to get first downs to put the game away or when the defense needed a rest. Our offense came through for us, and that’s all we can ask for. But again, Selvin had a great game filling in, and he makes some cuts that would make us nervous on defense, and I’m sure they’re not cuts that are taught, because they are some dangerous moves trying to make people miss in the backfield. But he seems to be able to pull it off and make plays, and that’s great. He has his own style of running and it’s working well in our system right now. He had some really long runs, which we love to see, because we’re on defense and long runs are cool.
I got invited to some sort of conference on kids dropping out of school and ways to prevent it. We’re supposed to have some local politicians and things there, so I’m looking forward to that. It’s not for a while though, it’s on December 5, but nothing else is new. Just the same old, same old, running the writing group at the Boys and Girls Club on Tuesdays and hanging out there on Fridays. Same old, same old.
Veteran’s Day was this weekend, which is definitely something that I think deserves to be mentioned in the blog, especially knowing how many servicemen and women respond to the blog. So just to let you know, we are all very appreciative for what you do, keeping us safe and protected and free, and getting us a day off is always great. Well, actually we don’t get a day off. We have to work on Mondays.
We had to be in this Monday, win or lose, to watch film and get better, because we’re still not where we need to be, and we still haven’t lived up to the talent that this team has yet, but we have a good start and the culture of this team has been “de-volving” back to the team that we were my rookie year and years before that. The culture that this team had, just a commitment among guys, has come back to the forefront. I think it had been lost over the last couple years, especially with the influx of a lot of new players and some major changes, it just kind of got lost in the shuffle. Some of those things that are important to the Broncos kind of got lost in the shuffle, but they are no longer lost. The professionalism and accountability that we are known for is now once again our trademark.
And I hate to end the blog on a somber note, but I have to. A very important person in my life is leaving me. It’s kind of depressing, but exciting at the same time. Charlie O’Brien, one of our Web site interns who you guys know as the Blog Master, has accepted a new job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So we’re all proud of him and happy that he’s moving up in the world, but I need to search for a new Blog Master. We’re losing the Blog Master, so someone else in the Broncos organization, just like the players do, needs to step up and take the reigns of typing up my blog for me so all the fans can enjoy it weekly.
Anyway, thanks everybody for your support, and thank you for sticking with us through the hard times. I think we’re out of the woods as a team … knock on wood. All Ready.

Face reality. Teams go through ebbs and flows, as does business and the Broncos are a business. They deal with personnel and challgenges of the market as such. See, if you understand that, and for that matter others also, then these blogs would be a lot more objective written and not taking pot shots at players. Real concerns of the team, it is how coaches take the players given (hand they dealth themselves) and make it happen. There are really no excuses beyond injuries for what and how the team played a few games ago, but othewise, coaching and players have to give themselves a gut check. Now, loser, give yourself a gut check and ask the real thought provoking questions like someone that knows the game would ask. Namecalling to players, questioning their competence when you never played, is totaly a consciously incompetent manner. I realy don’t think you can carry on a serious conversation with all of the Bronco fans about real football talk in a professional manner without non-threatening, backstabbing and lame comments included. Try it once. Ask a question that really means somethings that Bronco fans can understand or consider. Again, last time I checked you were not on an NFL team, caught zero passes, had zero PBU’s, or made zero tackles. Unless its just me, is this correct.
The Broncos will be back and they will get their act together. For any player that the Broncos feel don’t feeel meet their needs, then this is business and the player knows that they are marketable to play on teams that really want to win the bowl. Look at players who were on this team and went elsewhere and now are doing well. So i’m sure that any player who the Broncos trade, beyhond injury, they are gainfully employed, and would not mind being on a team more serious about winning. Can you talk intellegent enough to respond to this blog.
Dgilmer777 is immature obviously. Dont pay him attention because he obvioulsy doesnt understand football, talent or manners.
Congrats on the win and thanks for the post. It seemed the D line was in the backfield a lot more on run plays and pass plays which seemed to directly correlate with the ball ending up in our DBs mits. I hope the same happens against the Titans w/ outside support though, especially w/ Vince.
Honestly, the 1st half of last game was atrocious. Don’t know what happened in that locker room at halftime, but I hope it happens before the game next time!
Always thougt you were a good player and that you would start on most rosters. Would like to see you stay, but would understand if you left. Just don’t go to the Raiders or Cowboys.
SHOW EVERYONE Monday that KC wasn’ a fluke!
Go BRONCOS
hey fox, what made you decide to change your facemask? and Wear a Visor?

Look low rent, you need to watch your mouth! It obviously compensates for a lack of intelligence (but keep blogging loser) there are mostly educated, well spoken, professionals in here (Not you) Clean it up, or get out! OH, maybe you’d like Foxworth/Mason to bail you out? You know you can “Google” words too….moron!
And now Ncheel01….You can post whatever you like about the Broncos, and that’s cool, because it’s fun to banter back and forth. But if your honestly dont see the obvious problems with OUR D Broncs, the dude, dont rock on about your football expertise. Call it like you see it. If you really think that the KC win erased the horror that was Detroit, perhaps you’d like to explain the revolving door or DLs for unknown DE’s. We all have to come to the realization of the injury bug, but you can not convince me, or some in here, or the NFL Live crew, Fox Sports, Shannon Sharpe, Mark Schlereth, and more that the moves of Bates have been good for our team. Because all that I have mentioned sure dont either. Unfortunately, I have to give the nod to those guys. Hey…They actually played and they dont show the love your looking for…so the question is, what is it you see, that no one else does? Back to class rookie! It’s already later than you think!!!!!
Great win! Living in Chief territory isn’t easy but it was a lot of fun this Sunday! Way to play the game.
I will be going up to Denver this weekend to watch the game. Looking forward to more of what we saw this week!
Domonique,

Hamza Abdullah gives me a sense that Atwater is back there in a way.
I don’t know it’s hard to explain, but it’s a good thing.
Great victory in KC, always great to win there.
Thanks for the effort, keep it up.

Great game Fox. Okay, so quick question…ever since eddie kennison left Denver, it seems like we’ve been targeting his head on hits. The dude has been knocked into next week by us. I saw you try to decapitate him on Sunday…is he a guy that you bring a little extra heat for? Is that still the feeling on the team with him? I know us as fans still can’t stand Quitterson, but that’s us.
PS. DJ trained me in high school on my fast twitch muscles…don’t try his program, the thing made me puke…literally. The guy works you, ha
HOGBLOG, YOU SHOUDNT EVENBE ON HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO TALK SMACK ABOUT HOW THE D LINE STILL SUCKS…AS YOU CAN SEE (IF YOU WATCHED THE GAME) THEY HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES AND MADE INTERCEPTIONS AND FUMBLES AND SACKS….YOU MAYBE NEED SOME HELP IF YOU ACTUALLY MISSED EVERY SINGLE TURNOVER THE BRONCOS MADE..THEY ARE AWESOME AND WHATEVER CHANNY IS DOING, HE NEEDS TO KEEP DOING IT…I HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR THE BRONCOS, AND I AM TRULY SORRY FOR CUSSING BECAUSE I AM THE BIGGER PERSON AND CAN WALK AWAY FROM STUPID THINGS LIKE THAT…ANY WHO BRONCOS WHOOP ON THEM TITANS AND HOPEFULLY YOU CAN MAKE THAT INTERCEPTION YOU DROPPED LAST WEEK, IM MORE THAN SURE CHAMP HAS SHOWED YOU SOME DIFF WAYS OF CATCHING…BY THE WAY TELL CHAMP I SAID WASSUP AND TO BRING THEM INT’S UP…
GOOOO BRONCOS!!!

D-Fox,
Great game against those hated Chiefs. I was in attendance rooting you guys on. I have seen the Broncos play at Arrowhead every year since 2004 and also in 2001. Each of those times, the Chiefs won and their fans were not very nice about that. NOT THIS YEAR THOUGH!!! You all played a smart game, executed well, and made the big plays when needed. It was gratifying to walk out of a very silen Arrowhead Stadium. Thank you so much for that joy.
Thank you for all you do with this football team and in the community. You are certainly a positive influence on this team and that presence has not gone unnoticed. Tell Mr. Bowlen to lock you up with a long-term deal because true Denver fans want you hear for a long time. Especially with this rough season, it takes a lot of guts to come on this blog and write every week. Yet, you have been very gracious with your words and your time.
Anyway, keep up the positive momentum. Good luck against the Titans. Hopefully, this Monday Night contest turns out better for Broncos Country.
God Bless,
Jason Ault
I went to college in Miami and know how tough players practice and work hard, and have been to many Broncos practices, watching them close up. I have never seen them go out with a sense of trying to loose. So this is where I’m confused about many of the comments and responses. Teams go through changes, and this team is at that point. There are some dynamics going on that none of us know or will knoe, and all we really can do is support the team. Calling people names, talking about how weak they are or challenging the coaching process is totally uncalled for. Hoghead and dgump, have no clue of what football, being a “true” fan is about. I have also supported the NY giants before Denver, and when they lost, most fans hated them losing, but we always supported the team, knowing that they go through changes and challanges.
So what I’d really like to see is all of us in and around the city and stadium on Monday nite, raising so much noise to show our support for this team. The players have made mistakes, as do many of us in our jobs. So what is the difference? Does anyone challenge you from other professions about your performance? I’m an accountant and no one knows two cents about corporate accounting who doesn’t do it regularly. So how can you guys continually questions the players competence. As I stated earlier, I haven’t read one persons comment that they run a 40 in 4.4, have scored an NFL touchdown, or performed at the combine. So lets support our team with good, objective banter, but not cutting the players down. I can see why Jake gave the finger to some.
D-Fox
I’m a long time bronco fan and I know how huge this last win was for us. It was great to get a good win on the road especially against a divison rival. I’m from Maryland now living in Miami but I had the privelidge of watching you play for the terps and now for my favorite team in the pros. Your doing a great job for the team and as a fan i want to thank you for that and the blog you put up weekly. After a win or loss its good to hear about the game from your point of view. I know for me to hear you being as positive as you can after a loss definately makes a difference, because i’m feeling really low at that point. Terps basketball is starting up now I can’t wait to see how the season goes. Thanks again man, lets get this win Monday night and hope for a Chargers loss.
Terps / Broncos 4-life
WAY TO GO FOX KEEP PLAYING HARD MAKE VINCE THROW ON YOU GUYS.
WE NEED TO STOP THE RUN .!!1 GO BRONCOS!11
Hogblog ~ You are dead on about ncheel, reality has yet to hit him in the face. As for only “pros” being able to comment or be critical of players, that is obscene! Has anyone seen Emmit Smith commenting on the games, he is lost.
way to play against the chiefs. there are some stupid fans out there, but don’t worry what they say you are an amazing player. good luck the rest of the way, we all support you and your teammates.play ht eseason for 27 and 29.
sorry, the last sentance should say play the season for 27 and 29.
HOGBLOG IS STILL GAY!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!
I know some of you may not have the time, but if you do, be sure to catch the Channel 13 Fox News tonight at 9:30 PM for an amazing interview with a previous Denver Bronco named Glenn (Lumpy) Hyde.
Mr. Hyde is in 4th stage Cancer and his life story is one that you do not want to miss. Here is a man that had “every thing” going for him as a Denver Bronco and lost it all through the use of drugs and alcohol. He went from being a “Millionaire” to living as a “homeless person” to today is suffering with Cancer.
His testimony will amaze you.
With that being said, at the end of the day this game called Life is much bigger than football or who got burned or how many points were scored on the defense. It really is.
Which is all the more reason why I truly appreciate and respect the Foxworth’s and Ferguson’s and Gold’s of football. Guys with class and character. Grounded. Respectable. True class acts…

dominique is awesome
“because we’re on defense and long runs are cool.” lol
Fox,
I think of you as a playmaker, not necessarily a safety or a corner, just a playmaker, much like Troy Brown has been for the Patriots over the years. So, as a fan, I don’t necessarily read a lot into the fact that you’ve made more starts as a safety–to me it just indicates that the coaches want our best and most versatile players on the field.
In any event, best of luck this Monday night against the Titans. If you guys can start stacking wins one by one, then you can still accomplish a lot this season. I’ve always thought that it’s not how you start, but how you finish, so keep up the good work, and I’m confident you guys will get this turned around.
Best of luck tonight!!!
good luck tonight!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To DBJL,
Stop with the hateful names, and get a real sports related opinion. Cultural prejudice is not appropriate in this forum, and Im sure mr. andrewmason would not be happy!
Now back to your movie…Broke Back DBJL….
To Dgilmer,
Thanks and lets agree to keep putting pressure on DBJL….He’s a lost cause! And I think he likes dudes….lol

Dude you are LOST! We don’t care where you went to school, but you never mentioned that you actuallly finished!!!!!! I doubt it! You’re in love with Jocks, it’s so obvious! Perhaps you should look inside yourself, before defending those who think you’re a moron (all of us), like everyone who reads you’re wining perspectives in this forum for sure.
You’re not a player (EVER). Your game is weak, and your writing is even worse. Now, stick to the issue of what you know so little about(football) or prepare for a barage of garbage aimed right at you!!
Do you want to share football perspectives? Or would you rather continue your rambling, incoherent, unsophisticated name calling!
hey foxy,
first i want to say that people like HOGblog should be kicked off! but anyway good game you guys looked great out there! and now since im so late getting to this blog i want to say nice win over the titans 2! well see ya dominate!
Catching up on last week’s blog – Hamza has been incredible at safety and it’s obvious that you can corner and safety Foxy, seeing you, Hamza and Paymah out there in the KC game was great – such great energy. Keep up the good worth in every position you play! I see you making plays on Special Teams too – all ready!!!
Sorry to hear that Curome Cox was cut, glad Houston aka Broncos South picked him up, he’ll do well there! I’ll miss him as a Bronco though!!
