OTA Day 5: Notes and Photos

OTA Day 5

Guten tag and hello from Dove Valley, where cooler temperatures — 56 degrees as the session began, to be exact — greeted the Broncos as they took the field for the fifth of their 14 organized team activities. Storms have since arrived at team headquarters, and thunder and lightning is crackling through the skies as I type.

Addendum: The practice was truncated by a half-hour as a severe thunderstorm slammed Dove Valley with lightning, thunder and hail.

Notes:

… There’s not too much to note from the 10 minutes of pre-practice warmups. Dre’ Bly returned for a full day of work; wide receiver Glenn Martinez was out of uniform; no one got called in front of the team to do a pre-stretching dance. It was a very quiet start to the on-field work …

… Things haven’t been so quiet at the league’s May owners meetings, currently ongoing in Nashville, Tenn. The venue for Super Bowl XLVI will be announced today, but the league has already released a medical panel’s recommendations to the league on dealing with player concussions and head injuries, the findings of which were presented to owners at the meeting.

One key tenet of the plan is to require mandatory examinations on players. As the league’s release states:

Neuropsychological baseline testing will be required for all NFL players beginning this season, using a standardized test to establish an individual functional baseline. Neuropsychological testing is one tool a physician can use to assist in the management of mild-traumatic brain injury (MTBI). It cannot be used by itself to make clinical decisions. For players removed from games due to concussions, repeat testing will be done during the season to track recovery and to help decide when they can return to play. These players also will be re-tested against their baseline performance the following season at training camp.

The league will also “strictly” enforce the rules regarding full buckling of chin straps. No player will be allowed to alter the chin strap, or its attachment to the helmet …

… And with that, more photos. By the way, I know there were a couple of complaints about the legibility of the script fonts I used on the photo captions in the last week, so I’m trying something different today … hope you like it.

David Kircus should just hand in his jersey now…

Try and get a feel for what everyone thinks of Roderick Rogers. He was a stud at Wisconsin, and if he can come back form teh knee injury we may just have an undrafted gem on our hands…..

Andrew – thank you so much for this. We can’t be there but you are!

How does Darrell Hackney and Patrick Ramsey throw the ball?

Is Preston Parsons still on the team?

    Thanks

I’m sorry, but the captions on those photos are entirely too legible. Just Kidding. Nice work, Andrew. I love reading these, as I’ve been starving for football, and the season still seems so far away…

I can’t wait for the July Training Camps to come down and have a look at all the new faces for myself! Andrew… thanks for the continual updates and pics.

BTW… unlike others I am pulling for Kircus. Since there are two sides to every story and due process must take place… Kircus is entitled to a defense against these charges. It is not difficult to be in the wrong place at the wrong time involved in an altercation, get charged with assault, and even found guilty even if you weren’t the initiator of the problem. I applaud Shanahan’s approach and patience with this issue. Kircus is a great asset to the team.

    Go Broncos!

It’s nice to finally see Bly in a Bronco uniform, it made me a smile. :)

Thanks again, Andrew. Vaughn looks huge in that stretch; really like the idea of a 6’4″ LB. I’ll chime in with the others on personal focus: I’m keenly interested in who looks good for backup MLB and starting SLB; no 4-3 can afford a big drop in MLB play if the starter goes down, and Bates sounds like his MLBs play an even bigger role than “just” pass coverage, blitzing and run stopping in addition to being defensive QB. That and a big NT to rotate with Warren are my only real concerns about what looks to me like a very good team.

I like Kircus and hope we find out he was in the right, but admit it doesn’t look good. On the other hand, that’s why we have juries, eh? I’m not gonna judge him, especially without all the facts.

Good stuff; thanks again, and keep us posted.

Yeah, we just started a thread over at Broncomania about the LB spot and the guys competing for it: http://forums.denverbroncos.com/showthread.php?t=94267

P.S. Someone actually complained about the captions…. wow. That’s someone with way too much time on their hands. :)

Ditto everything everyone else is saying. Andrew, your fan’s best friend!

Hamburgler: Tough to say on either; they only let us with cameras and notepads in for the first 10 minutes of these sessions. Next week’s work is expected to be open to the media, so I’ll have a better idea then.

Denverobsession: You’d be truly amazed with some of the feedback we’ve received over the years. The issue with the fonts is piddling compared to some of the odd e-mails and suggestions we’ve fielded. I just want to make sure the font is not something generic like Arial or Times New Roman.

  14. denver fan says:

keep up the good work with dre’bly

  15. denver fan says:

will dre’bly be better than before? the answer is 4 shaw (yea)
