OTA Day 4

More photos, more notes, more everything …

… With Tony Scheffler out two months after breaking a bone in his left foot, the tenor of the competition for playing time at tight end changed — and perhaps no player at the position saw his work altered more than Nate Jackson, who enters his third set of OTAs there after beginning his career as a wide receiver.

“Today, I was on the first field, whereas last week I was on the second field,” Jackson said. “So I’ve got to step up and do the things Tony was doing, and not miss a beat and make plays.

“When (Scheffler) comes back, it’ll be back to normal. But I know my role — and I’ll catch some balls and do whatever I’ve got to do.”

Added Stephen Alexander, the senior member of the tight end corps: “I’m sure there’s enough room for all of us, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

The tight end scrum will be the focus of the final piece of the day over on the main site, which I’ll post later this evening …

… Head Coach Mike Shanahan also talked about David Kircus, saying the following:

“Well, we’re going to let the due process take care of itself. Like all situations, there’s two sides to every story, and obviously if he didn’t handle himself the right way, he won’t be with us. But I’m going to let the due process take care of itself first, find out exactly what the situation is and respond after all the information is in.”

ON KIRCUS NOT BEING AT THIS MORNING’S OTA:
“I talked to him this morning. I have not talked to the police yet. We sent him over to the police for obvious reasons — they were looking for him. Now we’ll let the due process take care of itself. A much different story from what came across from the other person.”

WERE YOU SURPRISED THAT IT WAS KIRCUS IN TROUBLE?
“When you ask a question like that, it sounds like he’s guilty … Nothing’s shocking. Let’s wait until the due process takes care of itself and find out if he’s guilty or not. If he’s guilty then he’ll pay the penalty. If not then he (will) be with us.”

IS IT FRUSTRATING THAT YOUR MESSAGE TO PLAYERS ON WALKING AWAY FROM TROUBLE ISN’T GETTING THROUGH?
Well, you’ve never been in those situations. You don’t know if a guy’s defending himself or if the guy punches you or throws a punch and does hit you. There’s different stories going on right now. Anyway, I can’t get into it for obvious reasons, but let me hear both sides of it and let the due process take care of itself. Obviously, I heard one side and it was very strong from his side. I haven’t heard the other side, and that’s why I don’t want to comment until I know all the facts.”

DO YOU EXPECT TO HEAR MORE?
“Yeah.”

And to wrap this up, five more snapshots:

    Hey Andrew,

It’s been a long time since I have been this psyched about a season. Our Defense has been improving by leaps and bounds. Our Offense is steadily tuning into be a force to be reckoned with. Hey, let me bounce this one off you: In 1977, it was the orange crush, (or the beginning of it), In 1987, round 2 of the AFC Championship with the Browns went to Denver while Elway took us to the big show, 1997 was the crown jewel of the franchise, and now……… 2007. History has spoken, it repeats itself all the time, and all of the staff and players just have to listen and play their hearts out. It’ll happen. I’ll be here just taking it all in….

    Thanks.
