Mabye so that they can pick him up sometime later when he is recovered in case of another TE injury. Just a thought.

If the reason why they released Alexander was injury, why didn't they put him on IR???

Good I never really liked Alexander in the first place, he was overrated. With Graham we have a tight end that will be great at both blocking and catching the football. Plus Scheffler will not get some playing time, and wait... He was one of Jay's favorite targets last year. I only see things improving from now on.

What I like about the move with Mustard is his versatility. He can play TE, G, and T so he adds depth at several positions. I hate to see Alexander go but with his injury I'm thinking he might not be claimed and who knows he could be back next week. Said another way I think it also means Shanahan has confidence in Graham and a heathy Scheffler who's ready to play this weekend.

In a way, I'm shocked.... but if his injury is the reason it can be understandable. I hope Alexander has a good outcome after this... he's a great player. He's got a bright future ahead of him if someone would just keep him & give him a chance of more than 2 seasons. He had great playing time in Denver but he could have been given a lot more exposure to showing his true talent. I absolutely hate seeing someone get cut... it's got to be the worst thing for a team like Denver... he'll be missed. Truth is he'll always be a Bronco.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan made an interesting comment during Friday's press conference in relation to the teams depth. While he was very impressed with the depth at running back, along the defensive line and even said they were fine at linebacker he said "not so much with our offensive line.". I believe that this not only is a statement towards the improvement of TE Tony Scheffler both physicaly and from a skills stand point but I also think that Chad Mustard is turning into one of those blue collar lineman that the Broncos invariably fall in love with. They may not be the strongest or the biggest but they do exactly what you expect of them.

I hope the release of Stephen Alexander means that Tony Scheffler's injury is progressing rather nicely. Alexander used to be our "blocking TE", but with the arrival of Daniel Graham, SA was left without a position because of Scheffler's vertical threat.

I assume his time in Denver is up, thanks for the memories SA

I am assuming that means that Alexander's injury is a bit more serious than previously thought?? Since he was on the roster last weekend, Alexander's contract is guarunteed, so there is really no motivation to release him other than to have fresh bodies....

Unless, of course, having only one healthy backup offensive lineman isn't reason enough to bring back Mustard....
