Minicamp Day 2: Notes and Photos

July 10th, 2007 - 3:27pm by Andrew

Javon Walker
You asked for it, so here’s a shot of the wide receiver’s new look. He’s got a ways to go before it has the length of the “‘Fro-Hawk” that the late Darrent Williams displayed last year, but it certainly gives Walker a unique look, to say the least.

Anyhow, back to football after that detour into fashion and style, with some minicamp notes:

… Just like Monday, the Broncos concentrated on specific situations, working in the two-minute drill and at the goal line, among other scenarios. The team also continued to shuffle defensive line combinations; Kenard Lang, Jarvis Moss, Sam Adams, Alvin McKinley, John Engelberger, Ebenezer Ekuban, Gerard Warren and Elvis Dumervil were among the linemen who saw first-team work in various packages …

… Ekuban worked at tackle; he lined up on the inside through much of the final three games of the regular season last December …

… Wide receiver Brandon Stokley took another step forward in his recovery, seeing some action in seven-on-seven work …

… New father Nick Ferguson was back at work on Tuesday and was called upon to lead the pre-practice breakdown after missing Monday’s session for the birth of his first son. “I have another mouth to feed now, so you’ll probably see another type of Nick Ferguson — more aggressive,” he said.

“Nick, he’s going to experience the greatest thing in the world,” safety John Lynch said. “He’s just real excited right now and should be. It’s the greatest thing that I’ve been through, and he’s getting that experience for the first time. We’re all real happy for him.”

… Brandon Marshall injured his quadriceps muscle during individual work in Tuesday’s session and did not return, but he did not believe the injury to be serious and he remained with his teammates on the sidelines for the rest of the practice …

… Rookie offensive tackle Ryan Harris went through a full morning’s work after being knocked to the ground and treated on the field Monday …

… Eddie Moore was absent Tuesday. “It was a situation I can’t get into right now, but it’s an excused absence,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. Warrick Holdman moved over to first-team strongside linebacker in his place.

… Ben Hamilton was not at practice Tuesday. Chris Myers filled his spot on the first team at left guard …

… Cornerback Lamont Reid, offensive lineman Doug Nienhuis, tight end Tony Scheffler and wide receiver Rod Smith also sat out Tuesday’s work.

Last, but not least, some photos:

“I thought he missed half of his head,” Shanahan said of Walker’s John Riggins-esque ‘do.

Hey Mason got a question why does it seem that jay cutler hates to be interviewed or show up at public apperances or anything that as too deal with media appeal. Why I ask he just seems to me that he is really quite of a guy.

    Andrew,

Do you know if Javon’s mohawk is linked to D-will?

    Thanks,
    Jon

  7. [...] First, and foremost, is the excellent coverage of all things orange & blue by our hero of the Denver blog-o-sphere Andrew Mason. He continues his work with daily news and pictures from mini-camp. Check out the pictures here: DAY 1, Day 2 [...]

I got a feeling Kennedy’s going to be a good one. B-Marsh needs to stay healthy if he wants to have his breakout year this season.

Thanks Andrew great job. I love Javon Walker’s mohawk almost as good as the famous ” Monday Night Look”Fro-Hawk by D-Will. I was wondering if you could give us some more on Champ Bailey , Dre’ Bly , and Domonique Foxworth.

Love the Mohawk!!! This should be an exciting season for Javon, 1,536 YDS and 14 TDS. Holdman may very well stay first team strongside. Stokley should make things very interesting here in Denver adding so much depth.
