Mile High Salutes and Lambeau

September 30th, 2011 - 3:02pm by Willis McGahee

Saw a lot of you talking about the Mile High Salute, which I’ve done after my touchdowns so far this year. That’s something I’m going to do every time I score a touchdown. That was a spur of the moment thing, and now I’m going to be consistent.

I saw Terrell Davis do it back in the day. That’s the good thing about running backs, we watch other running backs and there’s a lot of things I can learn from what T.D. did.

This weekend, people keep asking me about us being the underdog. We really don’t look into it, and really don’t even care about it.

It’s a great chance to turn things around, to get a win in Lambeau against the Super Bowl champs.

I think it would be a real eye-opener for everyone.

I remember reading TD’s autobiography and he said that one day on the team plane he had his headset on listening to Master P’s No Limit Soldiers and that is what gave him the idea of the Mile High Salute. I could see how Monodono thought Mike Anderson created it except that MA came after TD.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

Story goes TD did it for his father who was in the military.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

I know where the confusion comes from, when Anderson started doing it some fans weren’t real pleased that another RB would use TD’s salute and as time went on they turned around and said it was ok after all and embraced it because Anderson was a marine, then years go by and now some folks say Anderson started it because he was a marine, LMAO. Too many beers or related buzz things, haha.

  4. eddiecheddar says:

Hey Bay, if you haven’t read TD’s autobiography before it is really worth taking the time to do. I can’t say that I am much of a reader but that is one book that I can’t put down.

I liked when we were in SB 32 and TD and company met some navy guys out there who taught them to go to parade rest after the salute. Parade rest is a stance where the hands are placed at the small of your back and your feet are placed shoulder length apart. As a retired navy guy, that was awesome for me.

Okay, I’ve thought about it and I’m going again with my heart and not my rationality……

Broncos D has a big game and McGahee finds some holes for some big gainers. Moreno is used effectively on some nice screen passes for some big gainers and this opens up the pass game for a big showing from Decker.

    Biggest upset of the year…..

    Broncos 24
    Packers 23

  7. raidrhadr says:

BTW RIP Mike Heimerdinger who left us way too soon.

  8. killerkod says:

Man, did I really just post that? LOL

Guess I gotta stick to it now! haha

  9. baylinorcrush says:

20 bloggers pick us to win now.

  10. raidrhadr says:

I see a shootout but I just can’t bring myself to say we win.

    Broncos 20
    Packers 31

  11. Jwscout says:

    Denver 9
    GB 21

  12. baylinorcrush says:

To me the dilemna about this prediction has nothing to do about whether we win or lose.

Rather it has all to do with whether we are gonna cover for the very first time this year.

For those who haven’t paid attention we are 0-3 against the spread so far, so can we cover the 12 to 13 points the Packers are favorite by?

Unfortunately that is the real question to me. Lose by 2 TDs or more, or by under 12 points? We’re bound to cover the spread at least a couple of times this year, could this be the first one?

  13. 88Odoms says:

Well I dreamt Orton threw an INT in the red zone giving the game away again…it felt like we coulda pulled it out ( like the Titan game) but the best man for the job threw it away AGIAN! *sigh*

  14. royalbroncofan1 says:

Packers defensive rankings just about covering both ends of the spectrum with run & pass.
Their pass defense has given up a ton of real estate.

    First three QB’s they’ve opposed:
    Brees
    Newton
    Cutler

    Packers Pass Defense: 31st
    Packers Rush Defense: 1st
    Overall Ranking: 29th

    Broncos Pass Defense: 13th
    Broncos Rush Defense: 14th
    Overall Ranking: 15th

  15. Mikeyb1203 says:

I am going to be rational broncos 7 other guys 27. I just don’t see Orton sustaining drive wearing
    Down our D.

  16. Al Wilson 4 Mayor says:

You play with a lot of heart Willis. You make Bronco Nation proud!

  17. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Packers Offensive Rankings:

    Packers Pass Offense: 9th
    Packers Rush Offense: 10th
    Overall Ranking: 8th

    Broncos Offensive Rankings:

    Broncos Pass Offense: 27th
    Broncos Rush Offense: 28th
    Overall Ranking: 27th

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Packers QB opponents so far as pointed out by rbf1:

    Brees, Cutler and Newton

    Broncos QB opponents:

    Campbell, Dalton and Hasselbeck

Sure the Packers defensive backfield looks bad, had multiple injuries there, but the competition they’ve played has to be taken in account, just saying.

  19. baylinorcrush says:

If I take Odoms dream for it, that means we cover the spread, haha.

  20. Mikeyb1203 says:

Can someone remind me of what Fannin’s injury was again.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

And I thought Orton was all world stat wise, 27th passing???? Nothing like last year early in the season when they were talking about him being on course with the season passing record, remember?

  22. baylinorcrush says:

    Knee injury.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

BTW raidrhadr, once again you are trying to slip in multiple predictions haha, got you down for your first one, 24-13 Packer win.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Prediction, we don’t cover the spread, Broncos 13 Packers 27.

  25. henryac says:

@rbf1, didn’t mean to come off cranky about the BBQ crack, dude. Keep talking it up, gives me something to look forward to when I can chew again! Can’t say I see a whole lot to look forward to with the game. All we can hope is that the GB Offense takes the day off or their Defense misses the bus to the stadium!

  26. olap2009 says:

    49 Packers
    3 Broncos

  27. baylinorcrush says:

No respect for either side, haha.

  28. royalbroncofan1 says:

no prob henryac.. didn’t take it that way.
Hope you get back to being able to eat some good food after your adjustment.

  29. daddybronc says:

    High hopes for tomorrow.
    1. I hope that Orton goes pass happy and Loyd catches 10 passes for Quick TD’s.
    2. I hope that McGahee sees the hole instead of plastering himself to the numbers on the jerseys of the offensive line.
    3. I hope that the Broncos O-line creates a hole as big as Texas.

Gotta lotta other hopes as well, but mostly I hope that the Broncos can make some sort of game out of it.

    Don’t think so – Pack – 42….Denver -3

That’s a repeat prediction Bay – you don’t get to count it twice.

  30. daddybronc says:

What happens is that is initially looks like a game. Denver may even score first. But then it’s that 3 and out – over and over until the defense can hardly stand up. Second half, it will be ‘Mr. Rodgers neighborhood – in the end zone’!!

I expect the defense will hold their own for most of the first half, and then the entertainment value of the game will be completely lost to Green Bay fans.

Hoping I’m wrong – but this has the potential to get ugly. The Packers are really efficient.

  31. Bro says:

    Broncos 20
    Packers 17
    OVERTIME

I live for games like this, much more intertaining then playing the bengals and titans, it will be a tuff match but theres no way i can go against my own team.
    GO BRONCOS!!

  32. BroncosRmyReligion says:

    Denver 17- Green Bay 27

  33. Randy2191 says:

IDr if I put my prediction in if not Denver 13 gb 24

  34. marshisboss says:

GB 24 DEN 16. I hope it is the other way around and somehow Orton lights it up

  35. camharland says:

    Bay,
    Broncos-27/Packers-24
That’s based on the possibility of Doom and Champ stepping in. Kyle needs to keep our D off the field regardless!!!!!!! Do us a favor and show some heart and determination tomorrow Mr. Orton!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  36. stevecan2 says:

    *Official Game Prediction*

    Den : 28
    GB: 24

  37. stevecan2 says:

Something in the air, we are primed to be the upset this week. No other game is begging for it. We are out matched, out coached, and plain ol just don’t stand a chance right? Well, every dog has his day and tomorrow, I think that dog is the Denver Broncos.

  38. stevecan2 says:

The Broncos are 0-4-1 in GB. Franchise record Den Vs GB of 6-5-1

  39. tnalen66 says:

    Broncos 16
    Packers 33
3 Orton TOs = 17 points for the packers He will hear Mathews and fumble w/o getting touched. He will be interpted by Ragi and Hawk. Rodgers will only throw at Champ once for a short gain.
Rod Smith should be in the HOF but like many Broncos he will be snubbed

  40. stevecan2 says:

well have a fun and safe night Bronco fans. I am off to watch ZZ Top in concert.

    Yes, ZZ top. Live.

  41. oldsouthstander says:

Anybody know where I can find the complete listy of the current 100+ HOF nominees?I tried nfl.com, but without any success.
tnalen66 Isn’t Mathews out for the game???

  42. sndvl says:

LOL tnalen. Thats just a big bowl of “whatever the opposite of cheerios is”…

    GO BRONCOS!

  43. sndvl says:

I’m actually gonna take a peek at the Washington/StL game…

Didnt really dawn on me till I read fantasy start em/sit em!!!! LMAO @ McD and high powered offense in the same sentence

  44. sndvl says:

Atwater, you can try the pro football hall of fame website

    http://www.profootballhof.com/default.aspx

  45. baylinorcrush says:

    Matthews is probable

  46. sndvl says:

Sorry Oldsouthstander. Didn’t mean to refer to you as Atwater.

    Won’t happen again. Lol!

  47. baylinorcrush says:

ZZ Top, seen them three times, always awesome, specially this one time in Austin when they weren’t happy with the sound system and were mad about it so they just bagged the regular show and went into over an hour of like of a heavy duty blues jam session until they felt good with the sound again and finished their show, it was an outdoor show, the best.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

You have to remember they are from Texas and play here a lot so they often get off their normal routine show because they know they are loved here unconditionally and anything goes, big hits or not, that’s what’s awesome about ZZ Top in Texas, just saying.
