Making Progress

August 28th, 2008 - 9:47am by Ryan Torain

I just want to start out by thanking everybody again for your support. And just so you know, my doctor’s appointment last week went great. They told me I could start doing rehab, and that I could take my brace off when I do and get a little rotation in. So I’ve been doing all that since last Thursday.

They still say three months is what I’m looking at, though the goal now is to get back on the field by Week 6 against Jacksonville. I’ve just got to keep working hard, though, because you never can tell the future with an injury. I’ve got to stay on top of my rehab and hopefully I’ll be able to come back sooner.

The elbow is a little tight when I take the brace off and work the rotation, it’s just kind of stiff, but I’m working the little kinks out, so it will be all good.

I’ve started riding the bike, too, and I’m excited about that. It gives me something to do and I feel like I’m staying up on my cardio. With all that going and me still going to all the meetings, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things, just being with the team.

What else is new? I got to watch my first NFL game from the sidelines last week against the Packers, and it just felt good to be out there with the team. It was a new experience — watching the guys warm up, play the game and finish the game — it was exciting and I can’t wait to get out there.

Later today I’m off to Arizona with the team, it’ll be the first time I fly on the team plane, so I’m excited about that as well. As you guys know, I went to Arizona State so I have plenty of friends out there. I’ll see a few friends and family and have a good time, but I’ve still got to stay focused and get the game plan down and be there mentally for my teammates.

Whenever I’m out there watching the guys play, I’m always thinking about what I would do if I was in there on a play, or how I would have taken the defender or trucked over a linebacker. I can’t wait to get back out there. I’m itching, you know? But I’ve just got to stay positive and stay patient and don’t push it.

I asked you all to ask me some questions, so I’ll go ahead and answer a few of them.

As far as my favorite NFL team growing up, I didn’t have one. I just had favorite players that I liked to watch. OK I’ll admit it…being from Kansas I’m a little biased — I liked the Kansas City Chiefs. But I’m a Bronco now, so no worries on that one.

Nate Webster is probably the biggest prankster on the team, to answer that question, but of the rookies, it’s got to be Wesley Woodyard. That guy is a clown.

One person asked if I’ll wear a little extra protection on the elbow, maybe some elbow pads. Nah, I’m not going to wear elbow pads. I will probably have a sleeve on my elbow just to protect it, but I don’t plan on doing anything different. It’s not superstition or anything, but I like to look nice out there. Like I say, “If you look good, you play good.” I like to be, as us players would say, I like to be clean on the field.

Catch you all next week.

Week 6 against Jacksonville is 8 weeks from now. Is there any concern with the joint not rebuilding as fast as the muscle around it, thus having potential for reinjury from stress applied too early? I am eager to see you contribute on the field, but don’t want you to risk further injury to the elbow.

    Ryan,

Thanks for the update! It will be exciting to see you out there soon, its actually not too far away!

Good to hear about the bike and the arm. Exercise speeds up the metabolism and will help wounds heal faster. Can’t wait to see you tote the rock in New England. Godspeed.

That a boy ALL-TERRAIN Torain, I cant wait to see start running them linebackers over…! Week six is earleir than all your fans expected. These fools just dont know…welcome back to the valley of the sun and enjoy your visit! Dont get to close to Lienhart, I wouldnt want his mediocracy to rub off on you…HAHA! Hey Ryan its good to hear that your coming along great. I was at the Packers game I’m one of the wounded soldiers from Iraq that got to go out on the field before the game. I had the time of my life. I can’t wait to see you on the field. Keep up the hard work.

Glad to hear things are getting better with your elbow!! Hopefully we can see you sooner rather than later. Too bad we couldn’t have beaten the Packers….even though its just preseason. Its good that you can do scouting and such when you’re injured. I’m sure being on the sideline adds a whole new perspective for you. Thanks for answering my question!! :) I really appreciate and enjoy your weekly updates.

I just loved reading how you like trucking over LBs!

Hurry up and get well and make us forget about TD.

Well . . . we aren’t about to forget about TD, but you can make us forget about Stewart. :)

    holla

  12. Broncosfreak_56 says:

I can’t wait to see you out on the field once your elbow heals up.

  13. slkdjfod says:

I drafted you as my sleeper in the last round of fantasy football, cause I know you’ll be worth holding on my bench until you get on the field!! Selvin will do great, but I think you’re going to blow everybody away the second half of the season!! Good luck with the rehab!

  14. broncosfrance says:

Hey Ryan , i firmly believe our running game will look good this year , Mike S knows first hand how important it is to establish the run to win in the NFL . Running backs have hard time in this league , absorbing many hits so this injury could be a good thing for you provided you don’t rush the rehab time ; stay patient , your turn will come in the better part of the season !!! Good luck ( nevermind you rooted for the chiefs ! )

  15. Orange_Nut says:

    Ryan,
Good to see you bloggin!! And good to hear the recovery is going well. “Truckin over linebackers” .. love it. I’m gonna call you Ryan T-rain .. like Freight train.. cuz yer gonna be running over linebackers. I think I speak for all Broncos fans when I say we are impressed with just the little bit we got to see out of training camp…and we’re excited to see you get out there and run the ball. Proud to have you as a Bronco and keep us posted on your recovery and all the other shinanigans you experience with the team. Later bro~~

  16. BroncoNY says:

    What up Ryan,
From what I am hearing around camp, you were doing great until your injury. We are truly missing a big goalline back who can pound it in between the tackles. I am glad your rehab is going so well. Can’t wait to see you in action dude!! Tear it up.

  17. broncoAI says:

From everybody who is a true bronco fan, Good luck and GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  18. musa47 says:

Hope you get better soon torain I was really looking forward to seeing you early this year

  19. Meckrules says:

    Torain,

I assume with an elbow injury that you’re still working hard to be competitive when you heal. How much weight are you doing on squats, good mornings, hip slide press? How many sit ups a day do you do?

We’re all looking forward to seeing you play, and hoping that you dominate.

    Good luck,

  20. 15thebeast says:

Shanahan said you are nearest thing to Terrel Davis he has seen which running back do you think you play like

  21. BroncoBob42 says:

Keep doing what you got to do Ryan. We’re all rooting for you big time

  22. alwilson56 says:

    Hey Ryan question for ya?
After fellow Rookie Jack Williams return for a touchdown in the game against Arizona. Will the team let him live it down that he got caught by a qb against Dallas.

I really like this group of players. Ryan Clady, Eddie Royal, Jack Williams and yourself. The Broncos just might be good for a long time.

  23. 1ARABIANKNIGHT says:

    Great attitude Ryan,

I’m glad to have you with us. This will be a special season for Us, and You as well. It is always pleasant to have a rookie/vet with a balanced and positive outlook, not to mention great PR skills. Take care of that elbow ok.

May God bless you man……we’ve waited a long time for a balanced, agile runner with power and speed and acceleration. The “ideal back” for our system. You will have a awesome career ahead with us……Welcome, aboard.
