Losing a Bet…

December 11th, 2008 - 8:11pm by Ryan Torain

So the National Championship is set, and I think it might be Florida that comes out on top. I haven’t been able to watch much college football this season for obvious reasons, whether it’s preparing for games or rehabbing, but I’ve seen Florida play a couple times and they’ve got a lot of playmakers. I’ve been able to catch highlights from other games, too, and I’m just feeling like the Gators are going to come out on top.

Speaking of college football, some of you might remember that ASU played Arizona last week, and unfortunately it didn’t turn out as well as I might have hoped for the Sun Devils. Well, even more unfortunately, Spencer and I kind of made a bet. If ASU wins, Josh Barrett and I would give him some Arizona State stuff to wear. But if Arizona wins, we would have to wear some Arizona stuff.

It was actually kind of funny how it turned out. The game was on Saturday and I ran into him on Monday. I had on a red shirt and some blue shorts, didn’t even mean to, so I was already wearing Arizona colors. He said he didn’t have any gear for me to wear right then, and the week is almost over…so I think I’m getting a pass. Plus I was technically sporting Arizona anyway…

But back to the football field. I was real disappointed when I saw Peyton go down last week. Right away I thought, man, the running backs are cursed. We’ve got a curse put on us. It’s unbelievable. But the thing is we keep fighting through, we keep making plays, keep doing what we do and we’re making our running backs corps better because of it and helping our team.

It also speaks to Coach Turner. The way he coaches, he’s really a great coach and he works hard at his job. He works hard so we have to work even harder just because of the competition. When you’ve got a coach working every back like he could be the starter, and like five backs really wanting to be the starter, it has us working all the harder.

But the running back room is getting pretty crowded lately. New guys have to come in, but us guys that have been there from the beginning are still going to meetings — the ones that can, who aren’t rehabbing. And the injured backs are all sticking together, always being positive, getting ready for next year. Like I said, the room’s pretty packed, but we’re all there.

So that’s it for now. I haven’t even started looking for Christmas presents for everybody, so hopefully by the next time I write to you guys I’ll have started on that.

Thanks for the update Ryan. what active running back do you like the look of? With the end of the season coming up and with you guys likely going to make the playoffs, I’m curious who you like the look of, and who you think can carry us.

Well, well, well… look who it is. Glad to hear from you Ryan and giving us an update.

Hope the rehabbing is going well for ya… just want you back healthy and ready to go for next season. All ready looking forward to it just because I want to see you in more than 2 games!! You’re quite a guy and player.

Yeah, Peyton going down really hurt us, as if we didn’t have enough problems to begin with. I truly truly believe we can get past all these tough injuries because we have all season. We’ll be playing much tougher teams when and if we get to the playoffs which will just test this team and the abilities of the players but we’ve been able to pull through all these rough patches.

And just out of curiosity, if we get to the playoffs – what team do you think would be our toughest test there and how well do you think we’d do in the playoffs? Just like to know the thoughts about it all coming from someone who spends day in and day out with this team. Plus, no matter what you say I can respect a professional’s opinion.

God bless you man, get well soon!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

who agrees that we should trade young, pittman, and hall in the offseason and see who we can get
then have torain, hillis, and aldridge as a 3-headed monster?

  4. matt203 says:

i like the Hillis and Torain Combo. Thunder and Lightning. get well ryan, cant wait to have you guys back next year

    Just wanted to say……………BOOMER SOONER!!!

  6. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

Matt tennessee already has thunder and lightning and both hillis and ryan are more like thunder lol but i have 1 question for u guys who do u think will be dropped next year cause u know we cant have 15 RBs lol. i think u can say goodbye to Hall and i really dont think ull see Bell back unless he has an outstanding end of the season and playoff run but say he does id say aldridge young or pittman. Hillis will be back at FB and i think bell will be great and so i say bell pittman and torain and aldridge will go practice squad. young will prolly be traded.

BEAR DOWN ARIZONA! BEAR DOWN RED AND BLUE! Sorry Ryan, I just couldn’t resist. In any case, it’s nice to see that you’re still in the swing of things and I fully expect Boyd to excel as he gets several carries against the Panthers. With any semblance of a running game, Jay will tear the Panthers apart.

RT – Hope the recovery is going well on the injury. It’s really good to see the team jelling the way you are this year. This is the first year in a long time I think everyone has gotten along so well… we can see the chemistry and I think it goes a long way towards team productivity. Just keep jellin’ and working to improve. Looking forward to you guys steam rolling into the playoffs. Thanks for taking the time to holler at us… Good luck to you guys this weekend and…

    GO BRONCOS!!

    Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the update cutie. I look forward to your blogs every Friday (by the time I get to read them) to see how you are doing.

Hillis bein out sucks but you know I was at that game and when I saw that play happen it looked so much worse than what it actually turned out to be. I mean it still sucks but we will be alright…I think we have proven that we arent scared of an injury….I would prefer to have you guys back on the field but thats just god’s way of makin us stronger.

haha you arent the only one on that hasnt started Christmas shopping. I only got th people in Cali done…I still have to get everybody here done.

Well I hope you have a good week!!

Merry Christmas Ryan, and you too Bronco Country!

Let’s win out and leave no doubt!!! Here’s to an orange and blue Christmas!!!!

I don’t know what the deal is with all the RBs going down. But the continued success definitely speaks to Coach Turner and to the offensive line. Without them and their great blocking all year…the entire offense would look foolish. They are hugely underrated.

You need to get to Christmas shopping. There are only 13 more days, including today. :)

    1 more win!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Train,

Man, it’s just crazy with all these freak injuries to you running backs. Like you said, it almost does look like a curse!

It’s interesting to hear your perspective on your coach. Sounds like he’s doing a really good job at getting, what seems like, a new RB the confidence they need to start every week. It’s pretty amazing when you look at that IR list, then you see the production of all these different backs, and you just have to scratch your head. It’s great to see how a team can plow through this adversity the way you guys are.

There have been some ups and downs this year, but there’s one thing I get out of all this… it’s that you guys are playing as a team.

Keep up the rehab, Ryan! GO BRONCOS!!

I think Ryan Torain is more faster and quicker then Peyton Hillis we just could not see his potentials because he got hurt so early in the season. Peyton Hillis is a good reciever fullback. I hope that Ryan Torain has a healthy and successful season next year.

  15. armchair scout says:

Keep ‘em coming Ryan. It is always good to hear updates on you.

We need to find a way to get our guys more flexible I think. I study Kung-Fu and we work on flexibility as a preventative measure to avoid injury. Nothing can prevent those knee injuries, but hamstrings and groins are fully preventable in the opinion of an art that has proven it for hundreds of years. Again, your injuries were both to joints being tweaked and there isn’t much that flexibility can do for those. But Peyton’s injury would not have hurt someone who can rest with their whole upper body against their extended legs. I hope the conditioning folks consider this. If they want, I have been working on a flex training regimen for football. Okay, enough of that. I am just trying to help the team I have loved my whole life. Go Broncos!

I must say Ryan, I think just by reading your blog(catching up), you have just become one of my favorite players in league, in all of pro sports. You seem to a very astute and good person. That’s pretty cool especially in today’s world. Not many good guys out there. I truly hope that your dreams of the NFL continue. I’m a fan, I wanted to enjoy the game (NFL-TV which I don’t have) but I followed based on the hype. No doubt you have the talent and with your attitude, I see soup commercials coming your way very soon. Keep you head up!
