Pretty frustrating way to lose, in overtime, having played as well as we did, for the most part, defensively. We had a rough first half on defense, but still managed to hold them to 13 points, because we played well in the red zone. We didn’t give up any red zone touchdowns, which is something that we focused on throughout the course of the week– just improving in the red zone and on key third downs. I don’t know that our third down percentage was all that great, but the important third downs when we really needed to get off the field, we were able to do that.
So defensively, I think we played outstanding overall, especially against a really good 6-1 football team. With the exception of a few plays here and there on both sides of the ball, I think we played pretty well. The red zone fumble from our offense was a tough one, and the two big touchdowns, the two deep touchdown passes were pretty big plays that hurt our team. I guess the most frustrating part is that I think we’ve been improving since Day 1, which is something that all teams want to do, just get better week after week. I think that’s something we’ve done, and I even include this last week, even though we lost. We showed major improvements defensively. You look at this defense compared to the defense that played against Jacksonville or even some other teams earlier than that, and we’re a better defense. We’re a better defense now, we just gave up some big plays, which is uncharacteristic of us.
The most frustrating part as a defensive back is we feel like we’re the strength of our defense, and I think throughout the course of the season we have been the most consistent and strongest part of our defense. Last night, we just weren’t. As you can see, it happens to the best players in the league. The most frustrating thing is we played really well, but there were a lot of mistakes made by the entire team throughout the course of the game, and it’s frustrating that it has to come down to one play at the end.
I just hope that Dre’ especially doesn’t turn into a scapegoat for this game, because we passed up many opportunities on the way. I can sympathize with Dre’. My rookie year we were having a very good season — I don’t remember what our record was — but we went to New York and played the Giants. We outplayed them the entire game, and the fourth quarter, as a team, I don’t know if we relaxed or if they just stepped up, but they played a whole bunch better than us in the fourth quarter and closed the lead down. Then they had a game-winning drive and threw like a 3-yard touchdown to Amani Toomer, who I was covering, to win the game. After the game, I took responsibility for the play, but kind of became the scapegoat for a game where there was a lot of other mistakes being made. So I can sympathize with Dre’, but he’s full of confidence, and I was then and I am now. The following week I think we played the Eagles and I had a key interception to help us win that game when the game was in jeopardy. I think it goes without saying — we all expect Dre’ to have that type of bounce back, and he’s had some key interceptions for us up until this point.
I think one of the things that’s kind of upsetting and encouraging at the same time is that the only way they were able to beat us was catching passes on Champ and Dre’. That doesn’t happen too often and it won’t happen very much more throughout the course of this year. So if the only way teams can beat us is by catching 80-yard touchdowns on Champ and Dre’, it’s going to be really tough for anybody to beat us throughout the course of the year. It happens to everybody, especially the way the league is set up. It’s really an offensive-minded league, so even the best corners — which Champ is probably the consensus best corner in the league — even the best corners are going to get beat sometimes. It’s just unfortunate that it had to be in such a close game. I just look forward to the entire team bouncing back from that loss.
The perception of this last game and the way this team is going, it really came down to one play. Had we won that game and scored on that last drive, or had a turnover in overtime and scored or whatever, we’d be talking about how great this team is and how much we’ve improved on defense and how great Jay Cutler is in the clutch, driving us to game-winning drive after game-winning drive. But I still feel that way, despite the outcome and the final score. I still feel like we’ve improved a great deal, especially since the beginning of the season, and tremendously since the bye week. I still feel that Jay is a great clutch leader and I still have a really positive outlook on the team, despite the fact that we lost this past week. We’ve shown a ton of improvement and we’re still getting better. Especially defensively, I’m really proud of how we’ve been playing. To not give up any points in the second half until the overtime period is something to be proud of. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way and it’s important that we start forcing the ball to bounce our way in the next couple games and get some more notches in the win column.
To be honest, playing against Brett Favre on Monday night is probably a big deal to a lot of people. But I don’t know, I don’t get too excited about playing against other players. I definitely respect Brett Favre, and he’s a great talent and he’s meant a lot to the NFL, but it’s just another game and another quarterback for me. I’ve played against Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb and a bunch of great quarterbacks. I play with Jay Cutler, who is the greatest of the great, as far as I’m concerned, or at least will be one day.
Tonight, the writing club is going to INVESCO Field for the Halloween party for the kids, so we’re getting a little volunteering in tonight. We’re looking forward to that, it should be fun. I’ve got the radio show tonight also at 4:30, rather than 5:30, so I’m looking forward to that. I welcome anybody to call. After a loss I always get much more difficult questions than after a win, so the show isn’t quite as much fun, but I think Mike Bell and I do a good job of still making the show entertaining without being all down. We give everybody insight on the perspective of the team, and I think we’re pretty honest and candid. We don’t always say the PC thing, which I guess could get us in trouble from time to time, but whatever. We don’t always have to give the 100 percent media-safe answer, we try to give the honest truth.
I read all the responses this week, as usual, and I appreciate everybody’s encouragement and thank you for responding. It is the only reason why I do the blog, because I know you guys are reading and responding. Broncos D-Under’s response really caught my eye as a proper touchdown celebration. I guess on defense I don’t get a chance to score too many touchdowns, but if I do, I will definitely take into consideration the celebration that you recommended, to find one of the military personnel who are on the sideline and present them with the ball, a handshake and a thank you. I think that’s perfect, especially in a time of war. It’s really important to show them the respect that they deserve and I definitely will take that into consideration. I hope I can find somebody, because I don’t know that they’re always right in the end zone. But if I can, that is definitely what I will do.
As for Halloween, I think I’m going to bypass the Jake costume this year due to the blog responses. Not everybody thought it was creative enough. I guess it’s not that creative, but it’s pretty funny. I had some good ones back in the day, so I might bring back one of my classics. In fourth grade I was Homey the Clown. That was the best ever. My mom made that costume, actually. She did a great job. It was like a stocking cap with yarn around it to make Homey the Clown’s bald old man haircut, like George Jefferson. I had a nice, red George Jefferson haircut and a clown outfit that my mom made, and a sock stuffed with socks. I definitely went to the principal’s office quite a few times that day from hitting everybody with my Homey the Clown sock. If you don’t remember Homey the Clown, I feel sorry for you, because In Living Color was one of the best shows ever for at least four or five years. It produced Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, and the Wayans brothers and sister, like 40 of them. Anyway, I always reference YouTube, but I’m sure you can find some Homey the Clown clips on YouTube if you are not aware of who he is. I should bring that costume back. That was a great one. Well, I have until Wednesday, so I’m open to any recommendations till then.
I definitely check up on the other blogs quite a bit and I’m proud to see that everyone else gets a ton of responses just like me. They also have interesting blogs so keep reading them and responding. AG started the blogging process, Amon Gordon, so definitely give him some support. I’m the king blogger though. I am king of the blogosphere, so even though Amon stepped in, I’m not intimidated at all about competing for readership or competing for responses. I do have the Blog Master on my side, which makes me a dominant force in the blog world. I’ve overtaken Andrew Mason, who was the previous king of the blog world. Now he’s like a prince. We have a whole blog court, and I’m definitely king of the blog court. I don’t know, you guys can assign everybody else their titles. Maybe Andrew is the jester. I can picture him in one of those funny octopus-looking jester hats with bells on the end. I like bells on the end. That would make me laugh.
Signing off. All Ready.

Dom!
Nice blog buddy!
Yeah that was sure a tough one to swallow…. That was definitely our win and unfortunately we ended up giving it to the Packers.
I called Bret’s throw as soon as they won the coin toss! Something told me he was going to try it again……sure enough it worked. Hopefully Bly will bounce back from that next week…..
I’ve been a loyal fan for over 20yrs now…… this by far has been the most frustrating season I’ve seen. Even though things seem to be getting better overall, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
I would also have to say you guys played better last week then this week. There seemed to be more pressure on Ben then there was on Bret, you guys just seemed more pumped against the Steelers…..in my opinion anyways……
We’ve reached mid way point now, there’s a lot of football left but the weeks are flying by quickly…… you guys are gonna really have to step it up and take your A game to the – Next Level.
Time to bring it!
Taker easy Buddy!
Happy Halloween!

GO BRONCOS GO!!!
I agree about the game. Three freak plays cost us the game. The fumble in the red zone, that kind of thing is no one’s fault, it’s just a bad break. And the two best corners in the league getting burned for touchdowns. 99 times out of 100 Champ knocks the ball down, but sometimes the breaks just don’t go your way. Aside from the two bombs, one of which was in overtime, you guys allowed 6 points all game. Against a one-loss team, that is very impressive. A solid effort tonight. You guys still pretty much control your own destiny, so let’s go out there and take the division.
And Domonique, with the Lions coming up, you’re going to be spending a lot of time on either Mike Furrey or Calvin Johnson. This will be a big game for you. I am looking forward to that pick six against one of the best passing offenses in the league.
Go Broncos.
Very good read!
I think we can still make the playoffs if we toughen up some more.
I was going to dress up as John Elway for Halloween but I’m sick and it sucks..
I would have to agree there was much more pressure on Ben last week than any pressure on Favre….obviously the players cant change that as it is play calling…
I am 23 and a die hard fan since inception, this year unfortunately is the hardest on me, maybe because of my understanding of the game on a higher level this year compared to at a younger age, but more than that I just believe it for me is the expectation of what we can be. I really see greatness in Cutler and hope he is here to stay as Elway was in his career.
Dominique,
I am responding to your blog today because of something that happened over the weekend.
My cousin was fortunate enough to meet you and Champ over the weekend at the Rockies game. However, it was not the out come he expected. After asking for a picture he was treated HORRIBLY and told no.
How can you guys do that to your fans? WE are the ones cheering for you week in and week out. I am absolutely disgusted that we mean that little to you players that you would treat us fans that way.
Thanks for showing some class!
, 2007 IS OVER FOR BRONCOS
I hope this blog has been edited or written as a fluff piece, because if Foxworth thinks the defense played “played outstanding overall” he needs to get his head out of his rear end. Maybe that’s the problem… the expectations of those within the organization are far less than the fans. He writes that the only way they will lose is if teams continue to complete 80 yard passes on Champ and Dre… what about the fact that over the last two games (when the defense supposedly played so well) Favre and Roethlisberger were a combined 45/62 (72%) for 6 TDs? Sure, the big plays hurt, but it’s not like opposing QBs haven’t been completing passes underneath at will as well.
Hi Foxy D,
Great blog. Its fun to get the after thoughts from players about the games. I’m gonna have to agree with you on the game… defense was pretty awesome for only letting the Packs get 13 points during the whole game. Quite honestly I thought one or both teams was going to get at least into the 20s but I’m not gonna argue about the defense. You guys have clearly improved and I applaude you all for that. Taking the initiative upon yourselves to change for the better and it shows; it pays off to do the hard work even though we lost.
As far as offense, we weren’t horrible but we could have played smarter. Cutler did very well — no INT’s which is great but there was a fumble which wasn’t really his fault. He never even got a hold of the ball — that little stinker on the Packs just got in the way too soon. We would have had a TD if it weren’t for him. And at the very end of the 4th quarter, instead of a game-tying field goal we should have had a game winning TD as well. We should have dominated that game. I heard John Lynch getting you guys all worked up before the game on TV in the huddle and before you guys broke the huddle he was saying to dominate this game. That should’ve happened. And speaking of Lynch, what happened? Is he alright & will he be back for Sunday?
We shouldn’t blame one person for the loss, as fans and you guys as a team — we win as a team and lose as a team. There were mistakes made and that’s gonna happen but the important thing is to learn from those mistakes and improve off them. We can come back Sunday fierce and in charge and not scattered. There were a few times when it looked like the defense wasn’t sure what to do, like when there were only 10 guys on the field then we got penalized I think twice for have 12 guys on. We should always know what we’re doing and be confident. I believe in you guys and I know I’m not the only fan who knows we can win. I’ll always have faith in my orange & blue so I hope you guys can have faith in yourselves.
And last a couple questions, how long is Henry supposed to be out? Do you know when Rod Smith is coming back? If you got the time, I’d love to know what’s going on with these two. Keep up the good work and…
GO BRONCOS!!!!
I hope this blog has been edited or written as a fluff piece, because if Foxworth thinks the defense played “played outstanding overall” he needs to get his head out of his ass.
Last night was one of the most disappointing losses I can remember as a Bronco fan. I don’t understand the poor play calling and the last minute drives. Why can’t we hold a lead when we’re up and why are we always winning at the last second with Elam as our hero? We could have had last night’s game by going for a play-action pass instead of a Cutler run on the 3-yard line, even if the pass was incomplete it would have stopped the clock. We’re playing like the 2006 Raiders! Regardless, I’ll still cheer for my Broncos, I just expect alot more and better football. Now I’m just a fan, but like any other fan, I know bad football when I see it. Step it up team. My hopes are still high but we need alot of improvement. We can do better. Protect this house.
Eveyone on the team played great last night. I was very happy with how well the defense looked. You guys are making great strides.
I have no doubt that you will make the playoffs.
Just do one thing for me… When you go into Kansas City, please stomp them horribly this year. I’ve been to Arrowhead to watch you guys play for the past 4 years, and nothing could make me happier than watching you shut them down in their own stadium.
I’ll be with a bunch of lame Chefs fans, so it would really make my day!
I thought it was a great game….very exciting. I think I scared my dogs by yelling at the TV so much. You guys should have won that game, I thought the Packers were outplayed. The D looked lost in the 1st half but made great changes in the 2nd half & didn’t allow points which was awesome! I’m excited to see what the team can do for the rest of the season.
Fox,
Hang in there, there are people out there that support the team through thick and thin. I believe you guys are getting better, offensively and defensively week by week, and if you keep doing that over the next nine games, the wins will come. When the result comes down to a play here, and a play there, you know you are close–eventually I think the team will break that collective door down and the clutch plays and then the wins will come.
Good luck at Detroit!!!
Fox we should sit down one of our lazy overated corners and start you. I remember how you played vs the steelers! You had the most tackles on the team. You have to talk to our line backer core they are doing terrible I culd run on them for over a 100 yards. HAHAHA just kidding. Anywyas lets turn it around on D! Help Cutler out the kid is busting his butt out there. One more thing why is BATES still in COLORADO? The man is a DAMN FOOL!!!
I think when a team that averages 60 yards a game rushing against other NFL teams and runs for 120 on us there is a problem. Foxy I love you guys to death but if you think the defense played pretty good its a good thing your not coaching. We have a long way to go and it starts with our rediculous playcalling. Have we really turned into a cellar dwellar? I guess we will find out at the end of the season. P.S. please tell coach to pull his head out of his &*% and get Moss back on the field. We had our best QB pressure in a long time against the Steelers and coach changes things up? What a freakin Genius he is!!!!
next week it’s Detroit and it would be great to see some Bronco spirit on both sides of the ball. It was unfortunate to see our corners get overrun this week, and a team with no RB or running game run over our D, but hopefully it will be lessons learned and be the glue that binds the team for the rest of the season. One way or another BRONCOS are my team win or lose, just wish it was more win than lose I just hate to see KC and SD leading the AFC West. Luck in Detroit guys
Fox whats up man
i enjoy readin this blog, its a good interaction with fans and players. i agree with you that bly shouldnt be the scapegoat for losing because this game could have been won way before that. You win and lose as a team and this was a complete team loss. I just hate to see u guys lose games that you dont deserve too. Stay strong man
i think bates does most of the play calling on D. but yeah Fox u should definately start over Dre did u see him trying to cover in that game completly terible!!!! i know Champ got beat to but he maid up for it as the game went along but Dre gave up some big 1st downs b4 favre launched the game winner on him…what r we doing playing zone Champ i think is better in man and why cant we cover the TE!!Donald lee was dominating webster. and the problem of stoping the run showed its ugly head agian when Lynch went out if the game do we ahv a back up saftey????? that was a very frustrating game to watch it wasnt the packers so much beating us as it was we just giving the game away. All i have to beg of u is please please please dont loose to the chiefs @ mile high cuz that might completely kill whats left of the magic up there and also dont loose to the raiders!!!!!!!!!!
adf
I know that you all are professional athletes, and you are in a business. You could get traded, released, or whatever and be a Raider before you know it. All of a sudden you’ll say Oakland has the best fans, and yada yada yada. You have 32 potential employers, is my point. There is only one Denver Broncos. I don’t see the pride for being a Bronco. I really get a “yeah, Denver’s great but I gotta look out for me and mine” attitude from the team. I gotta be honest, every time the defense is on the field Dre is pumpin his arms, trying to get the crowd into it, and I just wanna scream DO SOMETHING! Fans are not part of your all expense paid trip to Denver. You gotta earn our love and respect and when you do, you’ll never lose it. But do it!! I don’t care if you lose trying, just try! It seems most Broncos today are to caught up in doing their job so that when you look at film they won’t get pointed at and singled out. I want to see Dre jump it front of every pass trying to make a play, and sure, he’ll get beat once in a while, but he’ll also take one to house, and earn the type of love he keeps asking the fans to give. So Dom, if you are reading this, the fans love you. I saw you at safety last night and wanted badly to see you just go nuts, but you got a game to play and job to do, and if you do the things I want, you WILL be in Oakland before you know it! All I’m saying is I want to know you’re all having fun, and if you guys lose I want you to lose playing Bronco football, then the fans will cheer and support you win or lose. But this football? It just sucks to watch, and I have to assume it sucks to play like that. You are getting better, but what is that saying? I’ve been going to games for years, I never saw someone have to sprint from the sideline to the D-Line just in time for the snap. I have never seen a look of pure confusion from a defense. I thought the motto was “impose your will”? I don’t see that, I see “try not to get beat”. I’m just a fan. I’ve never played a snap of football in my life. I know that you are all playing for money, and you gotta play well to get paid well, and the trite stuff like “pride” and “respect” are great talking points, but they don’t pay the bills. All true. I’m the one paying. I’m using my money to watch my pride and respect for the great Denver Broncos get trashed by imposters wearing orange and blue. It sucks.
Dom,
Thanks for the blog and the insight. I think it is pretty classy that you even do this!
I have been a Broncos fan for 20+ years (highs and lows). By all standards, that was a very tough emotional loss – sooo close. We need to get the Mile High Magic back!! I can’t recall the last time we struggled like this, especially at home.
Man, that last 4th quarter drive in the red zone about killed me. We should have won the game right then! A quarterback draw with that little time left just seemed inappropriate, especially since the run game in general was not really producing between the tackles – Greenbay got a lot of penetration in the red zone the entire gain. Hindsight is always 20-20 and it’s easy to be an armchair headcoach after the fact.
I am happy that you are getting more playing time because I have always felt that you are a solid player. In my opinion, the defensive backfield is playing strong from the hashes to the sidelines and in the flats but the middle of the field is a weak spot right now. This is likely due to the fact that everyone is so concerned about run support. I constantly see people having to cheat up which takes away from the DB’s focus i.e. making sure the TE’s, slots and RB’s aren’t chewing up the middle of the field yardage (oh yeah, and DEEP BALLS). My point is that something still needs to change in the front seven because I see people not getting off blocks either by design or because they can’t, then gaps very sporatically get filled. When we have to cheat up, we get killed by TE’s and/or short passes to the slots and RB’s. Until the bleeding in the run is managed, who cares if the DB’s get tested? The really good teams will just run us into the ground, and by no means, at least statistically, is Greenbay a good run team (last in the league) but they went over 100 yds for the first time since Ahman Green was playing. I think we have some “great defensive players” and some “great defensive players on paper”…if you know what I mean? There is no doubt progress has been made but I think it is time to stop dwelling on what “I” or “We” did in the past and focus on just winning each assigment. It’s time to wear that pride on your shoulder, shed a block, and put that shoulder into someone’s chest (let’s get some Al Wilson passion going)!! GO BRONCOS!!
You have to go with the Plummer costume, complete with beard (or at least the ‘stache). That’s an incredibly original idea, and it’s pretty funny too…
Hey Fox!
These past couple of days sure have been rough. I told my mom at the start of ot that I would be the youngest person to ever go into cardiac arrest from all this sports stress.
I thought your Homey the Clown costume story was hilarious! Very creative! I was really little when In Living Color was on tv and probably had no business watching it but Homey the Clown was my favorite skit.
Its hard to pinpoint one or two things that killed the chance to win last nite, obviously there are a few plays that stand out. In Colorado, as you know, fans like to point fingers at one or two players, justified or not. Its an unfortunate loss and it looked to me that there was a new fire lit inside of you boys last nite. Keep that going. We saw what happened to the Rockies with that spark.
There are a bunch of quality guys on the team and because of that it makes winning and losing easier for me to swallow. What I mean is this: I know you all are upstanding and of high character so I know you’ll be back at it the next Sunday but because of the team personality it makes me identify with you more and makes the losses harder to take.
So get back on the high horse and take care of business next week!
ps great start! congrats!
From Fort Worth, Texas:
I definitely agree with your comments about Bly and Bailey – they’re two Pro Bowl corners, the best of the best, and they just had two bad plays last night that came at pivotal moments. We could easily be talking about a 17-13 victory, or even a wider margin – had the plays of the two Favre TDs gone differently.
Jay Cutler has to be given a ton of credit as you mentioned – that was the fourth last-minute drive he’s engineered. Congrats to him for a game without an INT as well. He has incredible talent, and it’s great to see that the team is behind him. Shanahan knows what he’s doing.
The rest of the offense should be given credit as well, and *everyone* should donate at least 30% of their Halloween candy to the kicking unit – that’s the second time they’ve run onto the field and set themselves up with less than 18 seconds left in the game!
How incredible is that! Jason Elam – we love you. Greatest kicker of all time. You gotta respect Adam Vinatieri, but Jason Elam is the best.
Truly #1.
Speaking of clutch kicks, rushing onto the field, and kicking units – forget Allstate – you’re in good hands with Todd Sauerbrun! We love him, too. I’m proud to have him as our punter.
Last night was a devastating loss of course, but Bailey is still a Champ, we still love Bly and value him as a Bronco (and both of them will want to make us all forget about Monday with some big plays throughout the remaining 9 games.)
And we love you too, Dominique. I’ll be seeing y’all live for the first time ever on December 13th in Houston.
Mile High Salute, Broncos (speaking of the salute, think you could give us one when you make your next big play?)
I was just checking my password on the previous entry, didn’t want to blow my top on here and have it not go through.
Last night: 1 word-Disappointing!
Wow where do I begin……I’m a fan remember and I have been a broncos fan since 1985. As a previous post also stated now that I am older and some what wiser I’m able to understand the game and the strategies alot better now. How many more times do I have to hear that DJ Williams is playing out of position. DJ is an outside linebacker not a middle linebacker. Don’t get me wrong he’s a phonemonal talent he’s just playing the wrong position. Slide Webster to middle and put DJ back at outside. DJ’s struggles were evident last night, he was late hitting the holes on most of the runs off tackle and that allowed Green Bay to rack up enormous yards on 1st and 2nd down. We really missed John Lynch’s experience on the field last night and that was evident on the long passes Favre kept completing. I can’t believe Foxworth said “the D played oustanding” now if he meant the Packers D I could understand that but our front 4 were getting pushed back 2-3 yards off the snap on every running play! Come on, our D line isn’t this bad, they are young I give them that but to be dominated like they have been is mind boggling! I forgot to add the 2 defensive holding calls by McKinley, sup with that and the one that hurt the most was on 3rd and 5 from our 40, we stuff the run and force them into a punting situation but the penalty negates that and they get a first down and thus kick a field goal.
Play calling: 1st and 10 at the Packer 35, about 8 minutes left.
They call and end around with Marshall who was then supposed to throw the ball back to……..Cutler? What was that, no time for gimmicks here just keep doing what you had been which was working just fine. I can’t believe they called that play. If it works great, what a call but it didn’t and what are the percentages that play would have worked, not great! Also, last drive, the 2nd down and 1 or goal pass play to Marshall was great I liked the call just a bit under thrown and Marshall slipped but did anyone see how open Stokely would have been if he would have ran a hard slant, that’s something Jay has to see and audible to at the line. The DB for the Packers was 3 yards deep into the endzone, hard slant, bullet pass, TD we win! Now……..the play call on 3rd and 1 or goal, Cutler run? Why? Just put the ball up again maybe to Marshall? Marshall is 6’4 and built like a brick house, throw it up to him and let him get it at it’s highest point, he could have done that and if he didn’t it’s in-com-plete and we don’t have to rush the FG unit out there again like we have already this year…….is anyone seeing these things on the field like I am?
Jay’s only played in 12 games so far so I expect him to learn from these situations and get better. He’s an unbelievable talent and I can’t wait for him to mature more, he’s got it in him to lead this team back to the promise land!
When the game went to overtime I said “if we lose the toss we are going to lose the game” and rightfully so but I didn’t think Favre would throw an 80 yard rocket down the field and beat our other dominant DB? Speaking of dominant DB’s what’s going on there? Champ is not 100%, something is naggin him and Bly has been getting beat all year in crucial situations. Tackling, the only DB that knows how to tackle is Bailey the other secondary guys are pathetic. Now our Safetys can tackle but when Lynch went out we missed his force on the field.
I hate bashing my own team but I’m so frustrated I’ve come to a breaking point. I have to and had now said something. Let’s look now at our next 8 games. 6 of them are on the road and being as Mile High is no longer intimidating to visiting teams I see a glimpse of hope….just a glimpse. It’s safe to say we have to run the table all the way through to the Charger game on Xmas eve or we are looking at a top 10-15 draft pick next year and don’t get me wrong I’d love to have Lauranitis from Ohio State, this way he can play the middle and we can move DJ back to Outside Linebacker……his best position!
That biff on the tackel hurt us. We need the packers to do the same to k.c and petterson to have a big game agisnt s.d. If you look @ our scheduel it favors us. We are definitley getting better, and if we just continue to play that way 9 out of 10 times we’ll be victorious.
Vic from philly!
i think we should go after chad johnson
The defense did make stops when they had to. The offense had a nice drive with two minutes left in the game. It was a tough game to lose. The holding call on Marshall when Selvin broke a 45-yard run was a bad call. Can anyone tackle Marshall? I don’t have a problem with the play-calling. Had the scramble by Cutler gotten the touchdown we would be hearing about how clutch Cutler is instead of the mistakes that were made. The coaches watch film for HOURS each week and script plays that should work against a defense. As a fan, I have NO right to question play-calling because I do not watch game film. It is always easy to judge decisions in hindsight. Anyways, the play worked earlier in the game. Just keep trying and I enjoy watching the Broncos play. Beat the Lions!

I don’t watch game film either and I understand why they script certain plays after watching HOURS of film but sometimes you have to change things on the fly if you want to be successful. Those changes weren’t made and that is why we lost. Go Broncs and I expect us to beat the Lions!
Hey D
Man i couldnt believe what happened last night but that just goes to show that anything is possible. I must congradulate my man Jason Elam though he always comes through for us! He is just so composed and looks like it never effects him that the entire game is in his hands but you know. I think my boyfriend forgot about the game already because unlike me he is not a Bronco fan, but i was just waiting for the phone call and the hahahehe’s but they never came so i dont know if he forgot or just feels sorry for me because it was such an emotional loss. No joke ask my sister, i teared up…Uugghh but i will always and forever have faith for my boys…stay focused…keep your head up…All Ready!!
packers kick ass
the packers dominate life
haha
broncos suck
Dom,
Great blog of course, you’ve been doin it for awhile now. This is actually my first response to you but I have been reading. I’m a diehard Bronco fan trapped in Fresno, CA. I got nothing but Raider, Charger, and 49er love all around me. Even in my own restaurant my executive chef is a Chiefs fan so I got adversaries everywhere. You’re absolutely correct about a lot of things in the game including that the defense has improved. But we still need to work on stuffing that run. Green Bay was last in the run all year, but that Grant does look pretty good and will be their starter now. Anyway, I wanted to bring up a point about the offense. At the end of the game, we went with a shotgun formation twice!! from the 3 yard line. Why? Selvin was balling it up. Ask the offensive coordinator if maybe a fake QB sneak with a screen to Selvin would have been good because then the linebackers all clog the middle to stop the sneak while Selvin Young is open for short gain on the screen. Anyway, I thought that would’ve been better from the Shotgun anyway. The quick pass to Brandon was a good idea, Cutler was just a little off. What about Tony Scheffler? We could look for him in those too with a Play action Roll out. Either way we knew that Elam would make such a close field goal, but we should’ve been thinking WIN!!!! Anyway, we are the underdogs agains Detroit, so I hope Elvis enters the building and gets lots of sacks and BLY and Bailey and even yourself will have a great opportunity to redeem themselves agains that pass happy offense. Don’t let Kevin Jones look like a star. Our rush D needs to get better. I’m always with you guys through thick and thin.
Hey Fox,
I am not that disappointed with out play last night. I thought we should have tried to out it away on that last third and one, but it was the Coach’s call. I told everyone that we would win by 10, but I guess that Fumble on the 1 was the 10 point swing that made me wrong. I am really not that down on Champ or Dre, or any of the D for that matter, but I really think we could have won that game. Hey speaking of T.D. Celebration’s why not a Mile High Solute (to the sky) in dedication to your teammates that are watching you from above. I know you may not get a lot of T.D’s but maybe a team member could do that one.
hey dom, good blog! you guys played really well! i really thought you could of won! but its ok! hope you guys can counce back against the lions! good luck! cant wait till sunday!!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
-PARIS (#1 BRONCO FAN!!)
Speaking of being composed like Elam, Cutler is like the most calm person on the field. I don’t know how he does but I’m glad he can be calm & collective b/c they had me nervous.
And I’m not so sure about Chad Johnson… yeah he may be a good football player but can you say ego??? That’d almost be like having a watered down version of Terrell Owens. The last thing this struggling team needs is a huge ego beyond comparison. They’d be even better football players with out the ego. We have great players just the way they are but we need to bring out their talent and show how good they are. They’re in the NFL b/c they’re good, why aren’t our coaches showing that off. If we’re not going to put their best potential forward… why do we have them?
I have no problem whatosever with Shanahan, but like the players the coaches have to work together. If Bates wants to last another second with this team or any other coach, they need to compromise. It’s not hard to do but it does take effort. If its not worth the effort to some people on this team, then go away. If none of them are willing to do what is needed, why are they still around?? Seriously, do what you need to do to help this team succeed to get out of town. I’m going now.. I’ve already written my novel.
GO BRONCOS!! Get those Lions!!
Dear Dominique:
You guys should keep your heads up, you played a great game and had chances to win but the ball simply bounced the other way this time, its known to happen in football. I hope you guys will take all that disappointment from the game last night and turn it into pure rage and take it out on the Lions next week.
I want to see you guys bring a firestorm of burning hail on those punks down from the sky like you’re the horsemen from hell and its judgment day. The world’s going to end right after the game and you’ve got the ultimate score to settle with them and you aint taking any survivors, you’ll fight strong and hard to the last man. Send them back to the locker room with snot bubbles and soiled pants. Knock it right out of them so hard their wives feel it for a month and they start begging for mercy with tears in their eyes right there on field.
Fox,
Don’t let the negative comments get you down! I understand that the losses are tough to take for players and fans alike but most Bronco fans( well the real fans)are still behind you guys!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
Happy Halloween Homey!
Dom,
This is my first response to a blog here, but I’ve been reading them for awhile now. Yeah last night was disappointing, but you guys really did play well. Like you and alot of other people have said, the ball sometimes just doesn’t bounce our way.
And I completely agree with what you said: ALL corners get beat. It doesn’t matter who you are or how good you are, every defensive back will get beat sometime. Champ, Dre, you, everyone of you DBs are insanely good, but it’s impossible to never get beat. The only thing that matters is how you handle it the next game.
But I’m repeating what you and others have said because I realize how foolish some critics, and fans (even some of our own fans), can be when witnessing what happened last night. I was watching the post-game show, and was disgusted with what people have been saying about our DBs now. “Champ and Dre are shut down corners?? Yeah right” and so on. No one is a complete shut down corner; all corners will get beat from time to time.
I played ball in high school, and what I’ve learned from the game of football is that it is never one person’s fault in a loss. It’s a team game, every person on the team is to blame in a loss. The scores are the results of a SERIES of events, from one play leading to the next, and the next, and so on. This means that every person who played on the field contributed to the events that occurred. The person who “chokes” at the end or whatever, can rightfully blame his teammate (not like we would) for messing up his assignment on the previous play, and he can blame the previous faulter, and so on. This is probably something that most athletes understand, but a lot of critics don’t, because all they care about is either stats or the spotlight and who shines in it and who messes up in it. I just wish that other people could see this.
But what I’m trying to say is that you and the DBs should ignore everything that ESPN and some fans say about you guys, hold your head up, stick your chest out, and give it to the Lions next week. Hopefully Kitna saw last night’s game, and thinks he can throw on you guys now; if he makes that mistakes, ya’ll gonna have a field day with them picks.
Good luck. All ready.
I don’t necessarily mean that I never think about what play I would call in a situation. At the end of the fourth quarter when the offense was within ten yards of a touchdown, I would like to have seen a playaction bootleg to get Cutler out of the pocket. On second down I would like to have seen a jumpball to Marshall and on third down maybe a quick slant play. I can not argue with what was called though because I don’t know what defensive plays the Packers like to run in that situation. I cannot rip Shanahan for the plays that were called. That is what I meant. Have a great game against the Lions, Fox. I mean King Fox! How does that sound?
a good job huh? I saw the same porous rush defense, the 2 best corners in the league get burned for long TD’s and some of the worst tackling ever from the rest of you role players. The play calling from Shanny on the last drive was just pitiful, to play to tie instead to win was very poor judgement.
I just don’t know about the team this year, all the injuries and distractions (Henry) aside, you still have to step it up. Where is the defensive line? the only times they got to Farve was when they had a busted play. I’m telling you Dom, I saw the stat for the number of returning starters from game 7 last year to game 7 this year and it was like 7 total players, out of 22 thats not good. If you guys can’t turn this season around Shanahan is going to take alot of heat and when he gets heat he gets new players, the big contract players like Champ and Dre are probably safe, but role players like you are a dime a dozen, you want to be the real king? you step it up, you be the type of guy that Lynch is, you motivate your guys, you play like your gonna get cut if you make a mistake and you hold the rest of your team to that same standard.
I am a spoiled fan, I like to root for a winner and Shanahan and Elway finally delivered on that but Elway is long gone now. this team used to be a top teir team, if we miss the playoffs for a second straight year expect changes and I mean alot of new faces.
Ok, now that I am done bagging on you, it was great to see Rod practicing and I hope that Lynch is feeling better. I know that Bly will shrug off that last pass, really good players do, same with Champ. I saw Champ make great tackle after great tackle which is common for him to do, I think Dre plays a little flat footed and waits for the receiver to come to him before tackling him but overall he does have good cover skills.
Kudos and congrats to Selvin Young, he had a monster game for his first start and he truly helped get us in position to try to win that game. As for Cutler, the jury is still out, he had a lousy second quarter, I called it, I said to the people in the room that this is where we come out and do nothing and sure enough there it was, short runs, bad passes and then here comes the punter. typical. I am a realist, I know that other than in New England and Indiana teams just don’t come out and move the ball and put points up every single drive. I have seen flashes from Jay,hopefully he will be the great QB we have been waiting for since Elway retired.
Maybe the fans expectations are too high for our broncos, maybe our team is that great but we are just experiencing little hiccups that prevent us from being a winning club this year. maybe the team just needs to learn to play together because of all the new faces in the line-up, I don’t know, but I truly hope that it gets figured out because I love this team, I have loved this team longer than you have been alive Dom, and I will love this team long after you retire from the game, so please, I ask you, While you are with my team, be a caretaker of it and make us all proud, let us root for a winner and if you have to will it to make it so then do that.
hey dom,
ey dont listen to critics be like me and hear what you wanna hear. Moday night football was tough to watch but it did seem you guys are coming along, i think D.J. is playing really well and alot of the guys are pulling together and playing as a team. I was really proud the way you guys played maybe not as much as when you played the steelers but hey i see some real improvement and you got to remeber alot of our players are injured. i dont think this season is over i think it is just beginning of a good season. i maynot be as good as your rookie year but its a new scheme and alot of injured players. As far as that guy who said you should have signed them an autograph hey dude its there day off they arent supposed to sign them. they were at a game not in a game ok its there day off and we got to respect that its not like they are your servants just because they play for the denver broncos. Get your head out of your #@% ok ask for it another day its like if you worked as maintenice and you had off and some guy wanted you to fix a leaky sink, get over it. Dom keep doing what your doing your playing good football right now you really steped up your game since being a rookie. Tell every one in that locker room that there are fans still out there waiting for you guys to make the ball bounce your way. green bay struggled in this defense at the beginning but they got it together. your a special player and i can see that flashes same with selvin and jay and dj almost everyone is waiting for you guys to stay consistant and get some wins. If i were you Dom i wouldnt be afraid i would just step my game up a little bit more and i know it sounds tough but as an athelete you should keep pushing your self to be better. you didnt allow many catches that game vs the steelers, dont listen to people like wdlavs he didnt make it to the nfl and he isnt a coach he and many other people are just people that only root for you guys if your winning just like the rockies before i heard at my school about them all the time then after this people that were originly rooting for the rockies were then saying that they were rooting for the boston red socks. denver fans arent that loyal is what i guess im trying to say atleast many are proving that with thier responces. Still loyal fan right here. BRONCO 4 LIFE though the bad and the good thats the way i see it.
already!!!
sorry for the long responce dom
Dom your here to stay your a fan favorite even if some people ^ are saying your a bad player good enough to start for any team. I dont think people have that much of a right to say your not a good player i mean if they know so much why arent they a coach or a player quit talking out of your a&# people its not that late in the season and the broncos are just beat up.
Your a Very good player. I hope we can get a good Def.Cord.and Head Coach in here to exploit your talents. The offense has no vertical game. That is why Al Davis FIRED Mike Shanny. I hope you stay another saeson with us.
Tough Loss, but I know you cats can turn this around, you guys got all the talent in the world
Fox,
What up, man? This is Tyler from the operations department. Just reading through your blog and thought I’d say what’s up. I have to say that I’m extremely impressed with how well the team is performing with so many key injuries. This season is a trial by fire for a lot of the young guys–we’re pretty much playing with our second team it seems like, the O-Line in particular. Guys are stepping up though, which is awesome.
I hope to see you guys in KC in a couple weeks. Not for sure yet; I need to give Chip and those guys a call soon. Football here at Nebraska is kind of on a historical slide–below .500 for the season.
Anyways, do me a favor and throw me a shout out in your next blog. See you in a few weeks (hopefully).
Peace,
Tyler
