12:27 P.M. MST: Bon giornio and welcome to the final press conference of the 2007 campaign, Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s season-ending gathering here at Dove Valley, which begins in 33 minutes. At the very least, he’ll almost certainly offer his first comments on Tuesday’s change at the top of the defensive coaching staff, when Jim Bates departed after one year as assistant head coach/defense.
12:45 P.M. MST: T-minus 15 minutes here in the media room, which is already full and has eight cameras poised to chronicle the doings.
12:55 P.M. MST: Testing is done … we’re ready to roll.
12:57 P.M. MST: Here we go … three minutes early.
12:58 P.M. MST: “I’m sure there’s no questions,” Shanahan joked.
12:59 P.M. MST: Bob Slowik will be calling the defenses, Shanahan confirmed … He said he offered Jim Bates the chance to continue as a linebackers coach and he declined … “I thought as a defense we needed to continue in a little different direction.”
12:59 P.M. MST: Shanahan said the decision to part ways with Larry Coyer a year ago wasn’t predicated on football matters … Shanahan also points to the team’s league rankings over the years compared to what they were in 2007 as reason for making the change from Bates to Slowik.
1 P.M. MST: “We’ve got a philosophy here on defense that I’d like to get back to. Bob knows that philosophy and had some success with it; that’s why I think he’ll do a great job.”
1:01 P.M. MST: “Philosophical differences … (Bates is) someone that’s had a lot of success in different places; it just didn’t work out here.”
1:02 P.M. MST: “We’ve had a certain philosophy … We got back to it when we couldn’t stop the run this season — back to more 8-man fronts — but it was different coverages, different assignments and it just never came together.”
1:04 P.M. MST: In looking back at Ray Rhodes’ tenure in 2001-02, Shanahan said that his departure had nothing to do with football, but with health … He also reiterates that Coyer’s departure “had nothing to do with Xs and Os” but declines to get into it. “It’s really none of your business; I just make decisions based on what’s in the best interest of the organization.”
1:05 P.M. MST: “It goes back to me. I gave (Bates) the freedom to run the defense that he would like … It just didn’t work out.”
1:06 P.M. MST: Now Shanahan is asked about the 2003 draft, from which no players remain. ”I think you have to average it out through the years, and the bottom line is you judge it through wins and losses … I can throw stats at you, wins, those types of things, but the bottom line is we were 7-9. How do we correct it?”
1:07 P.M. MST: “The bottom line in drafts, free agency is if you win? … We’ve got to correct it.”
1:08 P.M. MST: On Javon Walker: “Guys like him, I will talk to before March 1.” Also said he has or will talk to Travis Henry and John Lynch about their status but declined to get into details. “There’s different issues with different players … but for me to make comment before I talk to (Walker) would be inappropriate.”
1:09 P.M. MST: On what is next: “You decide what areas you need to improve, what you have to do from a coaching standpoint,” he said. “We go back for a couple of weeks and evaluate personnel and schemes, and after we get away for a couple of weeks, we get back and look back at free agency and the college draft.”
1:10 P.M. MST: On whether the offseason will be more intense after a 7-9 finish: “It’s more intense … You’ve got to take a hard look at yourself and then you look at different areas and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
1:11 P.M. MST: Said Jim Ryan will become the linebackers coach while Joe Baker takes Ryan’s old spot on the coaching staff. Other than that, there will be no more coaching changes.
1:12 P.M. MST: On the offense’s efforts in 2007: “I saw us getting better. Even though we didn’t play as well as we’d like to play consistently, I think there’s a big future there.”
1:13 P.M. MST: “You always have the personnel to win 10-plus games. We’ve got to get a little healthier. We’ve never lost 62 (games) for guys on offense.”
1:14 P.M. MST: “It’s not excuses. It’s just the way it is. It’s the bottom line. We’ll see if we can step up and if we go in the other direction.”
1:15 P.M. MST: “I think the gap is very big right now between the Patriots, Colts and everybody else … Those are the two teams that are obviously above the rest. Everybody’s trying to catch up to those guys, and rightfully so … It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.”
1:16 P.M. MST: On San Diego: “If they put their best game together they can beat both Indy and New England … We’re going to have to play well to beat San Diego, which we didn’t this season … Can we get there? Yeah, we can get there … But we’re going to have to get lucky from an injury standpoint.
1:17 P.M. MST: Said both Tom Nalen and Ben Hamilton both believe they can be back. “We should have Tom back full speed and we’re hoping to have Ben back full speed … Will Ryan Harris step up? All that’s part of the evaluation process.”
1:18 P.M. MST: On Al Wilson being cleared to play and potentially rejoining the Broncos: “You never know what’s going to happen,” Shanahan said, adding that he had not spoken with Wilson since he left Denver.
1:18 P.M. MST: On D.J. Williams: “I’m not going to go through personnel — if he’s middle or outside — we’ll find out who’s on our football team before we make those evaluations.”
1:19 P.M. MST: “There’s some optimism,” he said as he rattled off the status of each unit, as well as some younger players who stepped forward because of injuries to players above them on the depth chart.
1:20 P.M. MST: On whether a coach’s message grows stale: “Not with the turnover,” he said, citing an annual 30 percent roster turnover that goes along with life in the NFL nowadays.
1:20 P.M. MST: “I think it’s personally embarrasing when I tell you we have the talent to win 10 games and we don’t.”
1:21 P.M. MST: “He (Pat Bowlen) understands you go through some tough times … He understands the big picture.”
1:22 P.M. MST: “Nobody can put more heat on me than me … When you don’t win, it’s pretty tough with the time we put in … You’ve got to have thick skin and believe in what you’re doing.”
1:23 P.M. MST: “It’s me. My bottom line is to get this team to win … When we don’t, I know when it’s coaching and I know when it’s players. Like I said, we should have had 10 wins … We did have a few guys we lost during the season, but even with that, we still should have won 10 games.”
1:24 P.M. MST: Said he likes Slowik’s “flexibility,” among other things.
1:25 P.M. MST: On free agency: “It’s getting harder and harder to get quality free agents because you’re overpaying for guys that others don’t want … You’re better off doing it through the draft.”
1:25 P.M. MST: Breaks down the left tackle position … reminds listeners that Erik Pears started there in 2006 … also said Ryan Harris was drafted in part because of the possibility of left tackle opening up if Lepsis left, as he did last week.
1:26 P.M. MST: On Pears: “He does a good job. He gives you everything he’s got. I like the way he handles himself.”
1:27 P.M. MST: Says there’s talk of microfracture surgery for Javon Walker, but that it “could be two to three years down the line; we really don’t know.”
1:28 P.M. MST: On Jay Cutler: “Strong arm, a guy that’ll compete … Now he’s got to go out there and do it, just like John (Elway) did … John had to prove himself in a playoff situation and finally got to that Super Bowl … His first four years all you heard was that he never played in a bowl game and that he never won a playoff game … But he believed in himself and kept on working his rear end off and finally got to the promised land … I was in the same situation with Steve Young, following Joe Montana.”
1:29 P.M. MST: “There’s a million things (Cutler) can work on — ball position, consistency with his short throws, blitzes and how to react to them, footwork, pressure, stepping up, scrambling. Different things that all quarterbacks go through.”
1:30 P.M. MST: Evaluating Travis Henry: “Any time there’s a setback with a guy you have to look back at what he did in the first four or five games.” … Said that he didn’t think he ever recovered from the initial medial collateral ligament injury. “You kind of get out of football shape … He tried, but he could never get back in shape.”
1:31 P.M. MST: More on Henry — “With the money involved, you have to make a decision that is best for the organization.”
1:32 P.M. MST: Said that Young can’t handle “20-25 carries” 16 games in a row … but that for 15-20 carries he can get five yards a carry … Expressed a similar sentiment with Andre Hall. Both dealt with injuries this year.
1:33 P.M. MST: “We definitely need the right returner … We thought we had it with Andre Hall this year … The thing we’re going to have to get better on is kickoffs … We had more of a hang time with kickoffs (after signing Matt Prater) … We’ve got a couple of guys that we think can help us already on our football team.”
1:34 P.M. MST: On Jason Elam: “I’m hoping he will be (here).”
1:35 P.M. MST: Said that Tim Crowder and Marcus Thomas “both have a big upside” and that defensive linemen make big jumps from their first to second years.
1:35 P.M. MST: Ebenezer Ekuban will be back “in the middle of May (or) June … besides him, some bumps and bruises.” Said Selvin Young will have minor knee surgery, with a 1-2 week recovery time … Also, Jarvis Moss will be ready by the start of offseason workouts.
1:36 P.M. MST: “We’ve got people that have been on the road that have evaluated every guy in pro football; they’ll come back in three weeks and go over all the recommendations in free agents. Our pro scouts will rank them and put them in a pecking order … We do the same thing in the college draft. I don’t even know all the guys that are out there. … Even though I’ve got the final say, there’s no way you can do that without guys out there hitting the road and making recommendations that are in the best interest of your football team.”
1:37 P.M. MST: “You’ve got to get an independent contractor that will look at your players … it’s a good cross-check for us.”
1:38 P.M. MST: On Hamza Abdullah as long-term safety option: “We’ll find out.”
1:39 P.M. MST: “I think John (Lynch) will decide in the next month … I talked to John today for an hour, hour and a half.”
1:40 P.M. MST: On whether Travis Henry will be the No. 1 tailback next year: “There’s a lot of money involved and you’ve got to make the decision with a big signing bonus what’s best for the organization. To tell you right now — I can’t tell you … There’s a lot to weigh … There’s so many factors involved that to say one way or another right now would be a little bit — not dishonest, but I wouldn’t be telling the truth.”
1:41 P.M. MST: On whether a great coach or great quarterback is more important to win a title: “To win Super Bowls, you have to have an organization … it can’t just be a quarterback or a head coach; it’s got to be a lot of people working together … and you’ve got to be a little lucky with injuries.”
1:43 P.M. MST: “If you don’t win 10 games, the blame should be on the coach,” he said, reiterating that even with injuries, one should still expect to win 10 games.
1:44 P.M. MST: “If you play him 50-60 plays a game, I think you’re going to wear him down … sometimes you have to play him more than you wanted to, but I think to do that to Brandon was a mistake, and that’s why he wore down.”
1:45 P.M. MST: On Rod Smith’s involvement after his career: “I want to get Rod Smith to be a part of this organization, doing something … hopefully we can work something out down the line.”
1:46 P.M. MST: “As a player, you can only lead when you’re playing. It’s hard to do it from the background, but if anybody could do it, Rod could.”
1:47 P.M. MST: On whether there were second thoughts about Domenik Hixon’s release: “We felt that Andre Hall was a better look for us … but just because a guy has an 85-yard kickoff return, it doesn’t mean the guy has arrived; let’s see it over time … we gambled over (trying to get him on) the practice squad and we lost.”
1:50 P.M. MST: On whether the team has already started rebuilding: “Any time you have young players, everybody says (that) … I know after an 8-8 season my first year, everybody thought we had three or four years to rebuild, then we went 13-3 … Maybe it’s Terrell Davis or Tony Jones coming in … That’s part of football. I can’t answer that question,” Shanahan said, then citing the contributions of Brandon Marshall, Selvin Young, Chris Kuper, Andre Hall, Marcus Thomas, Tim Crowder, Elvis Dumervil and other more experienced players.
1:51 P.M. MST: “There’s a fine line to try to get that chemistry right and a lot of things that go into it.
1:52 P.M. MST: On Jamie Winborn: “He was our best special-teams player … He played well the last couple of games …. Jordan Beck was (also) a difference-maker on special teams.”
1:53 P.M. MST: Ronnie Bradford will coach the secondary as Slowik handles overall defensive supervision.
1:53 P.M. MST: And that’s it … 56 minutes, start to finish.

Yeah, I checked on Google and Javon did go on the radio and said it was out of frustration from his knee Injury. Also, he said that if hes a Bronco then Good but if hes somewhere else is okay with him. He said that the ball is in Denver’s court. So its all up to Denver to keep him or cut him. So where Javon ends up depends on the Denver Broncos
Bullridinmike:
Chad Johnson? Seriously? We don’t need him in Denver. He’s cocky and can’t live up to the hype. I want nothing to do with “ocho-cinco”.
I’m as big of Bronco fan as the next guy, but the reality is that the Patriots and Colts are streets ahead of everybody else, including our beloved Broncos. The point is that we are not likely to improve so significantly in one year to be able to content. Therefore hanging on to older players like John Lynch or Al Wilson (yes I love these guys too) does not seem like a smart move. And nether does bringing in older free agents. Let the Pats and Colts get old and go young Broncos. Plan for the future, because right now is the Patriots days of sunshine….
Selbo Bronco you are wrong about Matt Lepsis he did hit TD after a Brian Greise int and wrecked TD knee. I agree with you though that we was a great Bronco. I am willing to give Shanahan one more year. I am tired of his act, he sits there so smug on all of these interviews. Read Dave Kreiger’s article in the News it talks about good old shanny in great detail. He blames himself for a 7-9 record, and said he had better players than that and then makes excuses about injuries. He doesn’t have great talent, and who’s fault is that, its his. His drafts except for the Cutler drafts have been bad, real bad.
Frame of reference, and I could be wrong here. Moss, Crowder and Thomas are all from places Shanahan has ties. Son played @ Texas and he coached @ Florida. Moss has long history of injury’s why not draft Reggie Nelson instead of trading picks to get Moss. Crowder is overrated, he had great workout numbers at the Combine but was not that productive @ Texas. Thomas was not impressive and didn’t make enough plays this year. Ryan Harris is as soft as butter or margarine. I watched him in college and he was constantly beaten just ask Brady Quinn. He plays like a 49er draft pick who shares the same last name Kwame Harris.
Last point is Shanahan needs to coach and let a real personnel guy come in and get the job done. He might be a great coach but he is not a player personnel guy!
AL WILSON
FREE WILSON!
FREE WILSON!
FREE WILSON!
Seriously, you guys think our team would be that much better with a 31 year old LB with a serious neck issue? I think not. I love Al, but his time has come and gone in Denver. I hope he stays healthy first and foremost, but I have serious doubts. You aren’t told to not play football for over a year for no reason.
AL WILSON (See my # 56 in my screen name) He’s the man. Sure would be nice to see him back out on the field. Only want him to play if he is really able to. Neck injuries are a scary thing and I certainly don’t want to see the guy wind up in a wheel chair. I know the risk factors involved in football and really every guy is one play away from ending their career, however no need to push it if you don’t have too.
On to Shannahan.. At least he took responsibilty as any leader should. Just hope were not getting lip service from him. On Javon walker, people get frustrated and say things they shouldn’t all the time. He was injured most of the year and really wasn’t contibuting, I’m sure his comments were more out of self-pitty than anything. On Henry, please send him packing. Lets develop some of the young guys. Henry was fine in the 1st four games, but I didn’t see that threat that we get from Young and Hall. J. Lynch as much as it pains me, should walk away. He’s sacraficed his body enough and he’s not performing to his true abilities. He’s a true leader and can hit like a freight train, but in his position he’s got to be able to cover a tight-end or receiver, he’s lost a few steps compared to the receivers of today. Enjoy your family John and good luck in your future endeavors. Too early in the morning to make good sense, so I’ll close. Shannahan, last free ride you get from this fan. Oh, Yea Pat Bowlen will not fire Shannahan they are to good of friends. You should see how often they are in Vegas together. They are real pals. Friends first business later.
My predictions are pretty simple. Henry, Smith, are out. And Al won’t come back. Lynch will stay. With that, I will state, that the biggest coaching change the Broncs need, is to part ways with Shannahan. His schemes are weakening and arent proving effective in today’s NFL. They were once brilliant and ahead of their time, however as of late, they just do not cut it anymore. It happens. My problem with Shannahan started when he benched Jake Plummer. You have a quarterback who just came off his best season, went to the AFC Championship, and lost to the Superbowl winners, and in the next year you bench him, for a player because he has a strong arm? Dont be confused I like Cutler, he will be.
[...] minutes later, you can find a detailed recap of Mike Shanahan’s season-ending presser here. [Mason’s [...]
Lynch doesn’t want to take a limited roll and as much as I like him, he can’t cover anymore making him a liability. Kenny Phillups may not be Ed Reed, but who is? Phillups is the real deal and would complete the best secondary in the league. If Slowik returns the defense to the scheme it was in 06 than Champ and Bly will go to the Pro Bowl with a lot of ints.
Nate Webster in the middle, D.J. Williams back on the outside with Warrick Holdman or Winborn on the other side. Al Wilson would be good for a year or two to bring fire and passion back to the D. The D-line was young and will improve next year. I’m not sold on Sedrick Ellis anymore and if Denver is smart enough to take Kenny Phillups than Frank Okam or Dre Moore look good in the 2nd.
I’d like to see Walker on this team and I think he will take a pay cut to play for Denver at least for one year to at least prove to other teams he can still play and not get hurt (hopefully he’ll enjoy success and stay). It would give us till next year to draft a WR. I’d like to see Henry stay if he is healthy and take a paycut. Selvin nor Hall can carry the load and haven’t proved they can get the tough yard, however that could be due to the predictable playcallling since Kubiak left. I think the offensive line will be fine. All the pieces are there for a long run.
A lot of you are convinvcing me that free agency is not the way, but I still like Ken Hamlin if Denver can’t get Phillups.
I think Shannahan has one, maybe two years to turn this team around, which I think is very possible with a good offseason, Of course he’s going to be vague, when has he not? Just hope he turns it around.
The best time of the year, the offseason. Analysis of defense.
Linebacker
I am amazed how many people want Al back. People complain about Shanahan risk taking decisions, yet there is a consensus to take a huge risk on Al. Bottom line the league leader in tackles was Patrick Willis, second was DJ Williams with 141 tackles, he was all over the field getting it done. He can be the MLB. I like Nate Webster’s intensity and statistically he did really well. However on occasion there would be a lapse and a big play was given. I have been a fan of Gold’s for the longest time but he has lost a step, he is just not making the plays he once did. I don’t know how much of Bates’ system was the cause. The team has Warrick Holdman who is a good linebacker who is a health risk, neck injury. A cheaper risk for LB with neck injury, than Al. Denver draft position could get us the best linebacker of the draft but this dependent on what to do with DJ Williams. The first linebacker in the daft is typically a MLB. If DJ plays MLB then improvement is needed in OLB. Briggs would be a great addition, cap space will be free’d up if Rod Smith retires and Gold is let go.
Defensive Line
There is no need for DE. Because of Denver’s rotation there are a plethora of quality players at DE, Ekuban (who was hurt), Dumerviel who is awesome (12 in a rotating system), Crowder was impressive (4.5 sacks in a rotation and showed push on the line), Englberger is a high motor player who played the entire season with a nagging injury, a separated shoulder. I am not sold on Moss. Granted he was hurt during the beginning of the season, specifically with Bates “system” in place, but he was frequently losing the battle with the offensive tackles.
DT is another story. It did get better once we got rid of Sam a waste of space Adams. It is a shame we traded out G. Warren for Bates’. Marcus Thomas did well at the line of scrimmage, was not pushed around but did not have many stats. I was impressed with Josh Mallard, picked up in week 10, had no experience with defensive system had 3.5 sacks (his only stats) with minimal playing time and plays hard every down. The rest of the DT can go. Great DT in the draft are taken before the 12th pick and the rest fall making the value of the 12th pick not good for DT.
Defensive Back
DB is pretty much set. Granted Bly is overrated, a little inconsistent, not worth the money. This is why he has no trade value, so it will have to work. I was disappointed with Foxworth, his play dropped off. Would like an upgrade in the safety position, one that is physically aggressive and will lay players out cold. Typically the best S is around this pick, it would be awesome to get a Laron Laundry type safety.
I suppose a safety with the first round pick, OLB with second round pick, and find a proven DT in free agency and use later draft picks.
if the broncos dont end up getting Al Wilson and he ends up going to another team would be the most horrible situation. He already passed his physical and has the green light to play again, so why not bring him back and at least let him contend in camp. He fires up a defense and always picks the right hole and makes the tackle. I love DJ but not in the middle, he’s better off using his speed to run down running backs on the outside and covering tight ends. Al Wilson would change the defense dramatically.
Please shannahan, sign Al Wilson to a 2-year deal.
Shanahan s era is over
fireeeeee!
Trade a new coach, we need.
D.J. isn’t moving back to the outside. You can’t expect the guy to change position nearly every year of his career. Let him grow in the middle. He did an outstanding job with a poor supporting front seven in a poor system. He has the physical attributes to be one of the greats. He’s right up there with his Miami alumni, better than Dan Morgan, Vilma, and in a few more years he will elevate his play above Ray Lewis.
Bring Al Wilson back and give him a shot. If he’s healthy he can come back and be a force on special teams and compete for a spot at OLB. I think all Al would want is another chance to play.
I’d still like to see Jarvis Moss at WLB. He’d be more of a threat at the position given more room on the outside and the confusion whether he’s going to drop back or blitz. I could see him put up some Dumervil type numbers.
John Lynch if he returns should switch back to strong safety and play closer to the line. He’s basically a glorified linebacker. Kenny Phillips would be a great addition; we wouldn’t be talking about him though if we had drafted Ed Reed instead of Ash Lelie. Let’s not make the same mistake.
i couldn’t hurt to give Al a chance at a OLB spot. He wouldnt have to be great to make a difference on this team.
who would u guys take if they were both still available, kenny phillips or sedrick ellis?
if Al can play, there’s no way he goes outside and DJ stays in the middle. It’s not like he would have to learn it, he already knows it, and with Al beside him they would be spectacular, but that all depends on Al being healthy.
They also need to step up there offense in the red zone.. they can always get to the red zone but never get it in. next year is mostly gon to be working on the defence and o line cuz i think jay cutler and brandon stokly and marshall will be good toghether and andre hall and salvin young are bouth good
another thing i’d like to see in the off season, get an ashley leilei type wide out or even trade walker for leilei and maybe move up in the draft. we need a burner on the outside that can stretch the field to make the long ball a threat. that leaves more room for marshal, stokey and the tight ends to work underneath.
for all of walker’s mouth and his lack of performance on the field, I’ll be happy for any trade that puts his lackluster and whiny ass in another city.
pack your bags, crybaby!
stevecan, the plummer comment makes no sense. You don’t play a player based on how they played last year, you play them based on how they are playing on GAME DAY.
And plummer was on a serious downhill slide when he got benched. Check the numbers.
I think the emergence of Brandon Marshall as a #1 WR, along with the injury to Walker, prevented Walker from being the #1 guy…initially signed to be the #1 guy, but not anymore.
I think it’s clear that Shanny doesn’t think Hall or Young can be the back to get 25 carries a game. If the quality of free agents are indeed going down, then maybe he will trade down for more picks. Definately need a high quality Tackle, and Safety.
i too like Phillups to be the team’s first round pick….lets not forget the All-American DB Lowery…He too can play safety and is a Jammer/Cromartie like corner(very fast and physical-can be all over the field)..jst a suggestion.
Dj is a solid MLB….even w/o a solid nose tackle he managed to have the second most tackles this season…thats quiet an accomplishment for a first time MLB…
Get an Ashley Lelie type receiver? Get a whinny underachiever who thought only of himself? Don’t we already have one of those in the form of Javon Walker? How about, get another Ed McCaffery? A total team player who did everything that was asked of him and then some. Bring back Al Wilson? Why would he want to come back to the team that tried who trade him while injured and then cut him? It’s a great fantasy, but not vetyry realistic.
I have one major complaint about the way Shanny handle the offense. When is the last time we’ve had a true fullback sized player at fullback? All he’s had recently is bulked up running backs, e.g. , Anderson, Sapp, Droughness, Bell. You’ve got to have that great blocking back who makes that all important hole on third and short. They may be in short supply, but at least try several prospocts out during the presaeson.
It will be interesting to see what the Patriots do with the number 5 pick. My guess, trade it for 1st rounders this year and next or a current all-pro of some sort.
It will also be interesting to see who the “experts” project as the Broncos pick. The first 5-10 are pretty cut and dried, after that………..
I just read Shnnon’s comments on the Super Bowl win. Griffith was our fullback then. That was thje last time we had a real class blocking back. Ten years!!!!!!!
Why is it that everytime a team “plays” poorly the “coach” gets blamed. Last time I checked players play and coaches coach. You can’t say Shanahan doesn’t put them in the best position to win. The players were the ones not getting into the endzone, not blocking, and not pressuring the quarterback. You guys want to put the blame somewhere, put it where it needs to be the players. The guys Shanny brought in were proven winners, thats why he brought them in. If he knew or even had proof that they were going to be busts, he’d have never brought them in. Bly was lockdown before coming, and Travis Henry was looking like a premier back. At the time those both looked like brilliant moves, who knew that they wouldn’t pan out.
And D.J is finally going back to where he’s always been at his best: The Outside. You want to bring up those florida teams and Jonathan Vilma. Who was on the inside? Vilma not D.J. It’s about time the Broncos became the team of folklore and with a stud DT and some young offensive linemen, we will not only win now but we will definately be the Patriots or Colts of tomorrow.
GO BRONCOS!!!!
ok i love lynch but come on people, really is it worth it. He’s not as good as he used to be anymore. I kind of hope he retires. Yes, I’d miss him, but you have to think about the direction to go in. He’d be even older and more fragile and slow than he was this year. And how many times did he also get beat this year. You have to upgrade at the position to get better.
Also, the same thing with Al. Yes again i’d love to see him back, but again whats the best thing for the team, to have a LB you don’t know if he’ll be good or if he’ll still be effected by his neck.
IDK if anyone agrees with me, but i still havent seen how jarvis moss is suppost to be a solution at DE. yes i know he only played about something like 5 or 6 games, but watching him play, i never saw the reason we traded up a couple positions for and lost a pick or 2 in the draft for. i’m pretty sure we could have gotten him if we stayed at #21 i think it was.
and who ever said trade walker and i think it was henry for Chad Johnson, do you really think the bengals would accept that trade, honestly!? And people who are saying trade henry, i understand why you say that but, when he was FULLY HEALTHY in the begining of the season, he was a monster, then our line got hurt and he got hurt like Shanny said he doesnt think he eever recovered fully. and also he said young and hall are not everydown backs
I wouldn’t mind Ocho Cinco for Walker. To WR’s that need a change of scenery!
I wouldn’t mind Ocho Cinco for Javon. to WRs that need a change of scenery
I agree with vinster572, why in the world would the bengals trade ocho cinco for henry and javon. So chad had one bad year, so. thats like saying we would trade champ after he had one bad season. And I don’t see what is so special about Moss either. why did we even get him after those problems he had in college with drugs or whatever it was. Our only good DE is dumervil, so I think that that is where we sould focus with the draft; getting some more good DE.
I also agree with vinster572. But i do think we need to get ride of javon and travis. If they sign travis to a greater contract he still might get into trouble with drugs. its too risky. trade javon and henry for ether anouther wideout or defensive offensive linemen.
The smartest guy on the Bronco’s right now is probably the owner. He is tired of cap hell and over-paying for players, we will have to get creative to produce more picks in the draft, but, in the long run, developing young players is the best direction for the team.
As for Lynch, well, truth is, he is our best player at diagnosing the play, teams will literally run away from him, safety is a position that takes brains and brawns, if we can get a guy like Phillips, he will need to learn from Lynch. Lynch has alot more plus than minus, even at this point in his career.
Hey guys its quite aperent what we need. DEFENSIVE TACKLES! ours are a bunch of wimps, they get no push in the back field. We also need bigger offensive lineman. The chargers sent 3 guys on our 5 and man handled us. Look at the patriots. Tom Brady has ALL day to throw, i could find an open man with that time. Finally we need youth at safety. John Lynch is awesome but slow…. Abdulla single handedly forced atleast 3 INT. Lynch hasnt had a pick in years!!! FInally we need an agresive defensive play caller, enough of this rush 4, my gosh. Fix those 3 things wich really isnt that hard, and we would have beat green bay this year, and the bears like we should have. Leave the offense alone, there doing great. Are defense more specificaly our RUN stopping defense is pathetic.
i have a question? who do you think should be the deffensive player of the year
Just another point on Lynch, you can be fast as hell, but if you take the wrong angle, you miss the play.
The more I study, the more I appreciate John Lynch.
