Live from Shanahan’s Season Wrap

January 10th, 2008 - 12:55pm by Andrew

Mike Shanahan

12:27 P.M. MST: Bon giornio and welcome to the final press conference of the 2007 campaign, Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s season-ending gathering here at Dove Valley, which begins in 33 minutes. At the very least, he’ll almost certainly offer his first comments on Tuesday’s change at the top of the defensive coaching staff, when Jim Bates departed after one year as assistant head coach/defense.

12:45 P.M. MST: T-minus 15 minutes here in the media room, which is already full and has eight cameras poised to chronicle the doings.

12:55 P.M. MST: Testing is done … we’re ready to roll.

12:57 P.M. MST: Here we go … three minutes early.

12:58 P.M. MST: “I’m sure there’s no questions,” Shanahan joked.

12:59 P.M. MST: Bob Slowik will be calling the defenses, Shanahan confirmed … He said he offered Jim Bates the chance to continue as a linebackers coach and he declined … “I thought as a defense we needed to continue in a little different direction.”

12:59 P.M. MST: Shanahan said the decision to part ways with Larry Coyer a year ago wasn’t predicated on football matters … Shanahan also points to the team’s league rankings over the years compared to what they were in 2007 as reason for making the change from Bates to Slowik.

1 P.M. MST: “We’ve got a philosophy here on defense that I’d like to get back to.  Bob knows that philosophy and had some success with it; that’s why I think he’ll do a great job.”

1:01 P.M. MST: “Philosophical differences … (Bates is) someone that’s had a lot of success in different places; it just didn’t work out here.”

1:02 P.M. MST: “We’ve had a certain philosophy … We got back to it when we couldn’t stop the run this season — back to more 8-man fronts — but it was different coverages, different assignments and it just never came together.”

1:04 P.M. MST: In looking back at Ray Rhodes’ tenure in 2001-02, Shanahan said that his departure had nothing to do with football, but with health … He also reiterates that Coyer’s departure “had nothing to do with Xs and Os” but declines to get into it. “It’s really none of your business; I just make decisions based on what’s in the best interest of the organization.”

1:05 P.M. MST: “It goes back to me.  I gave (Bates) the freedom to run the defense that he would like … It just didn’t work out.”

1:06 P.M. MST: Now Shanahan is asked about the 2003 draft, from which no players remain. ”I think you have to average it out through the years, and the bottom line is you judge it through wins and losses … I can throw stats at you, wins, those types of things, but the bottom line is we were 7-9.  How do we correct it?”

1:07 P.M. MST: “The bottom line in drafts, free agency is if you win?  … We’ve got to correct it.”

1:08 P.M. MST: On Javon Walker: “Guys like him, I will talk to before March 1.” Also said he has or will talk to Travis Henry and John Lynch about their status but declined to get into details. “There’s different issues with different players … but for me to make comment before I talk to (Walker) would be inappropriate.”

1:09 P.M. MST: On what is next: “You decide what areas you need to improve, what you have to do from a coaching standpoint,” he said. “We go back for a couple of weeks and evaluate personnel and schemes, and after we get away for a couple of weeks, we get back and look back at free agency and the college draft.”

1:10 P.M. MST: On whether the offseason will be more intense after a 7-9 finish: “It’s more intense … You’ve got to take a hard look at yourself and then you look at different areas and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

1:11 P.M. MST: Said Jim Ryan will become the linebackers coach while Joe Baker takes Ryan’s old spot on the coaching staff.  Other than that, there will be no more coaching changes.

1:12 P.M. MST: On the offense’s efforts in 2007: “I saw us getting better.  Even though we didn’t play as well as we’d like to play consistently, I think there’s a big future there.”

1:13 P.M. MST: “You always have the personnel to win 10-plus games.  We’ve got to get a little healthier.  We’ve never lost 62 (games) for guys on offense.”

1:14 P.M. MST: “It’s not excuses.  It’s just the way it is.  It’s the bottom line.  We’ll see if we can step up and if we go in the other direction.”

1:15 P.M. MST: “I think the gap is very big right now between the Patriots, Colts and everybody else … Those are the two teams that are obviously above the rest.  Everybody’s trying to catch up to those guys, and rightfully so … It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.”

1:16 P.M. MST: On San Diego: “If they put their best game together they can beat both Indy and New England … We’re going to have to play well to beat San Diego, which we didn’t this season … Can we get there?  Yeah, we can get there … But we’re going to have to get lucky from an injury standpoint.

1:17 P.M. MST: Said both Tom Nalen and Ben Hamilton both believe they can be back. “We should have Tom back full speed and we’re hoping to have Ben back full speed … Will Ryan Harris step up?  All that’s part of the evaluation process.”

1:18 P.M. MST: On Al Wilson being cleared to play and potentially rejoining the Broncos: “You never know what’s going to happen,” Shanahan said, adding that he had not spoken with Wilson since he left Denver.

1:18 P.M. MST: On D.J. Williams: “I’m not going to go through personnel — if he’s middle or outside — we’ll find out who’s on our football team before we make those evaluations.”

1:19 P.M. MST: “There’s some optimism,” he said as he rattled off the status of each unit, as well as some younger players who stepped forward because of injuries to players above them on the depth chart.

1:20 P.M. MST: On whether a coach’s message grows stale: “Not with the turnover,” he said, citing an annual 30 percent roster turnover that goes along with life in the NFL nowadays.

1:20 P.M. MST: “I think it’s personally embarrasing when I tell you we have the talent to win 10 games and we don’t.”

1:21 P.M. MST: “He (Pat Bowlen) understands you go through some tough times … He understands the big picture.”

1:22 P.M. MST: “Nobody can put more heat on me than me … When you don’t win, it’s pretty tough with the time we put in … You’ve got to have thick skin and believe in what you’re doing.”

1:23 P.M. MST: “It’s me.  My bottom line is to get this team to win … When we don’t, I know when it’s coaching and I know when it’s players.  Like I said, we should have had 10 wins … We did have a few guys we lost during the season, but even with that, we still should have won 10 games.”

1:24 P.M. MST: Said he likes Slowik’s “flexibility,” among other things.

1:25 P.M. MST: On free agency: “It’s getting harder and harder to get quality free agents because you’re overpaying for guys that others don’t want … You’re better off doing it through the draft.”

1:25 P.M. MST: Breaks down the left tackle position … reminds listeners that Erik Pears started there in 2006 … also said Ryan Harris was drafted in part because of the possibility of left tackle opening up if Lepsis left, as he did last week.

1:26 P.M. MST: On Pears: “He does a good job.  He gives you everything he’s got.  I like the way he handles himself.”

1:27 P.M. MST: Says there’s talk of microfracture surgery for Javon Walker, but that it “could be two to three years down the line; we really don’t know.”

1:28 P.M. MST: On Jay Cutler: “Strong arm, a guy that’ll compete … Now he’s got to go out there and do it, just like John (Elway) did … John had to prove himself in a playoff situation and finally got to that Super Bowl … His first four years all you heard was that he never played in a bowl game and that he never won a playoff game … But he believed in himself and kept on working his rear end off and finally got to the promised land … I was in the same situation with Steve Young, following Joe Montana.”

1:29 P.M. MST: “There’s a million things (Cutler) can work on — ball position, consistency with his short throws, blitzes and how to react to them, footwork, pressure, stepping up, scrambling.  Different things that all quarterbacks go through.”

1:30 P.M. MST: Evaluating Travis Henry: “Any time there’s a setback with a guy you have to look back at what he did in the first four or five games.” … Said that he didn’t think he ever recovered from the initial medial collateral ligament injury. “You kind of get out of football shape … He tried, but he could never get back in shape.”

1:31 P.M. MST: More on Henry — “With the money involved, you have to make a decision that is best for the organization.”

1:32 P.M. MST: Said that Young can’t handle “20-25 carries” 16 games in a row … but that for 15-20 carries he can get five yards a carry … Expressed a similar sentiment with Andre Hall.  Both dealt with injuries this year.

1:33 P.M. MST: “We definitely need the right returner … We thought we had it with Andre Hall this year … The thing we’re going to have to get better on is kickoffs … We had more of a hang time with kickoffs (after signing Matt Prater) … We’ve got a couple of guys that we think can help us already on our football team.”

1:34 P.M. MST: On Jason Elam: “I’m hoping he will be (here).”

1:35 P.M. MST: Said that Tim Crowder and Marcus Thomas “both have a big upside” and that defensive linemen make big jumps from their first to second years.

1:35 P.M. MST: Ebenezer Ekuban will be back “in the middle of May (or) June … besides him, some bumps and bruises.”  Said Selvin Young will have minor knee surgery, with a 1-2 week recovery time … Also, Jarvis Moss will be ready by the start of offseason workouts.

1:36 P.M. MST: “We’ve got people that have been on the road that have evaluated every guy in pro football; they’ll come back in three weeks and go over all the recommendations in free agents.  Our pro scouts will rank them and put them in a pecking order … We do the same thing in the college draft.  I don’t even know all the guys that are out there.  … Even though I’ve got the final say, there’s no way you can do that without guys out there hitting the road and making recommendations that are in the best interest of your football team.”

1:37 P.M. MST: “You’ve got to get an independent contractor that will look at your players … it’s a good cross-check for us.”

1:38 P.M. MST: On Hamza Abdullah as long-term safety option: “We’ll find out.”

1:39 P.M. MST: “I think John (Lynch) will decide in the next month … I talked to John today for an hour, hour and a half.”

1:40 P.M. MST: On whether Travis Henry will be the No. 1 tailback next year: “There’s a lot of money involved and you’ve got to make the decision with a big signing bonus what’s best for the organization.  To tell you right now — I can’t tell you … There’s a lot to weigh … There’s so many factors involved that to say one way or another right now would be a little bit — not dishonest, but I wouldn’t be telling the truth.”

1:41 P.M. MST: On whether a great coach or great quarterback is more important to win a title: “To win Super Bowls, you have to have an organization … it can’t just be a quarterback or a head coach; it’s got to be a lot of people working together … and you’ve got to be a little lucky with injuries.”

1:43 P.M. MST: “If you don’t win 10 games, the blame should be on the coach,” he said, reiterating that even with injuries, one should still expect to win 10 games.

1:44 P.M. MST: “If you play him 50-60 plays a game, I think you’re going to wear him down … sometimes you have to play him more than you wanted to, but I think to do that to Brandon was a mistake, and that’s why he wore down.”

1:45 P.M. MST: On Rod Smith’s involvement after his career: “I want to get Rod Smith to be a part of this organization, doing something … hopefully we can work something out down the line.”

1:46 P.M. MST: “As a player, you can only lead when you’re playing.  It’s hard to do it from the background, but if anybody could do it, Rod could.”

1:47 P.M. MST: On whether there were second thoughts about Domenik Hixon’s release: “We felt that Andre Hall was a better look for us … but just because a guy has an 85-yard kickoff return, it doesn’t mean the guy has arrived; let’s see it over time … we gambled over (trying to get him on) the practice squad and we lost.”

1:50 P.M. MST: On whether the team has already started rebuilding: “Any time you have young players, everybody says (that) … I know after an 8-8 season my first year, everybody thought we had three or four years to rebuild, then we went 13-3 … Maybe it’s Terrell Davis or Tony Jones coming in … That’s part of football.  I can’t answer that question,” Shanahan said, then citing the contributions of Brandon Marshall, Selvin Young, Chris Kuper, Andre Hall, Marcus Thomas, Tim Crowder, Elvis Dumervil and other more experienced players.

1:51 P.M. MST: “There’s a fine line to try to get that chemistry right and a lot of things that go into it.

1:52 P.M. MST: On Jamie Winborn: “He was our best special-teams player … He played well the last couple of games …. Jordan Beck was (also) a difference-maker on special teams.”

1:53 P.M. MST: Ronnie Bradford will coach the secondary as Slowik handles overall defensive supervision.

1:53 P.M. MST: And that’s it … 56 minutes, start to finish.

is he gonna come out and surprise us with his retirement? i hope not hes still got it he just needs to get control of the reins again.

  2. hrdnokd says:

Come on Shanny, face the music, stop the “averages” crap and admit you can’t seem to get both free agency and the draft right. Be a man!

  3. smithalltheway says:

i wish we could bring wilson back and lynch since we lost smith

  4. funnycar says:

Coach Mike, the Prince of Vagueness…….

  5. powderaddict says:

hednokd – Scheffler, Cutler, Marshall, Dumervil, Foxworth, Paymah, Young, Hall, Stokely, Moss, Thomas, Graham, Crowder, the list goes on and on of FA/Drafts gone RIGHT. Every coach will have hits and misses, Shanahan as of late has had many more hits than misses. Any “music” he may need to face is getting fainter and fainter…

  6. precisiontint says:

Alan Faneca is looking better and better.

  7. clutch734 says:

Man, I hope they bring Al Wilson back!! He will light a fire on that defense!!!

  8. jlalum01 says:

I can’t believe someone gets paid enough to go and ask an NFL Coach is “Chris Myers” will be able to play tackle? C’mon guys do your homework before you ask questions !!!!

  9. biggymac609 says:

poweraddict, we didnt draft stokely or graham…..

  10. GnarlyBroncos says:

Slowik as D-Cord, that is the biggest mistake, He was never successfull before as a D-Cord, I guess we just bring in washed up nobodys to coach us these days. We need someone fresh with a new outlook but that wont happen becuase that will take power away from shanny and he wont let that happen. This is the worse move then it was to bring in Bates. Expect another crap year from the D. Oh and Bring Back AL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. jhns says:

we did bring them in through FA, as the conversation stated

  12. navy_bronco_fan says:

Al Wilson’s leadership would be a boost to the defense even if he didn’t start at MLB. Bring him back!!!

  13. jlalum01 says:

what’s up with the audio, went from 225Kbps to 16Kbps?

  14. jlalum01 says:

    Henry is gone.

  15. Stand Ablaze says:

What the heck is wrong with the video and audio it keeps skipping and stuff.

  16. smithalltheway says:

if we could bring back wilson trade henry and walker for boldin and hire that ryan guy from Baltimore holly crap i think we would be able to go 14-2

  17. smithalltheway says:

get these boys into the locker room right now and start the off season lifting and running. that would help us out quite a bit.

  18. BroncFanIN says:

I like Shannys comment on Rod Smith and trying to get him to do something in the organization…

  19. bigstevet07 says:

We have to get Al back. Even if he can’t start, he was the heart and soul of that DE. Get it done Shanny!

Smithalltheway, I would love that trade, but no way will Arizona do it with Edge on the books for so much already. They would never take Henry. Boldin would be an injury concern though just like Walker.

  20. smithalltheway says:

well wheel n deal with them. who knows they might like the idea of having two pretty good backs. maybe give up a second round draft pick.

  21. smithalltheway says:

another good pick up this off season is to get jarred allen over here

  22. bigstevet07 says:

They’ll probably franchise Allen. They already have gonzalez and Johnson locked up. We do need help on the line. I kind of like how quick the ends will be if Moss comes back healthy.

  23. GO CUTLER says:

LETS GET ARRINGTON OUT OF MICHIGAN THEN WE COULD LET WALKER GO I DONT THINK HE WANTS TO PLAY HERE ANYWAY. THE GREAT THING ABOUT SHANNY IS IF BATES DIDNT WORK OUT LETS MAKE A CHANGE THIS IS WHY SOME DAY WE WILL BE SUPERBOWL CONTENDERS!!! LETS GET AL BACK HE IS A GREAT COMPETOR. I ALSO HOPE THAT JOHN LYNCH COMES BACK HEALTH FOR HIS FAREWELL SEASON. GO BRONCOS!!!

  24. jwalkbmarsh says:

I agree, Slowik is a poor choice for the DC. They really need to bring back Al Wilson, I don’t know how things went during his realese, but Al should know the fans have been asking him all year, he will be welcomed back huge! Keep Javon. He was on a Radio show and said his rant was all out of frustration, with every thing he has gone through, he should get a pass on this one. Shanahan has no idea what he is planning for this off-season. He should have at least interview sombody else for the opening. Next move: Take away Shanahan’s VP, and bring sombody who can see the reason our defense went from one of the top scoring D, to the worst at everything: #56 AL WILSON!!!

  25. imready says:

i like slowick getting a chance after being with the team for a while. i will be a fan of his till i see some version of a prevent (prevent you from winning) defense on the field. if he is as flexible as shanny says, he will keep offensives guessing. only time will tell……
i think walker is gone, i think henry stays. shanny like his running style and his backfield is set with henry, young and hall. if henry gets hurt he has talent to fall back on. walker is a different story and went public with his whining after the broncos took a chance on him. shanny don’t like that kind of stuff! how many good games did he really turn in? we have stokley, marshall, scheffler(semi wide receiver skills) jackson( semi wide receiver skills), martinez. who needs walker!
maybe harris will be the man at left tackle, i sure hope so. i thought the young guys stepped up on the o-line and did a pretty good job this year. there is plenty of room for improvement especially when facing some of those big d-lines.
glad to hear he is planning on staying away from risky ,expensive FA’s. i have been preaching that here and it only makes sense. if you can build a great team from undrafted free agents and the draft you may gain some loyality from those players, hopefully enough of them to keep a team together long enough to be successful . it is a team game after all and that was very evident this year in broncoland, no cohesiveness.
i don’t think shanny was happy with dj williams. not his play but his leadership ability. i don’t think they’ll bring al wilson back because of his age. i think they may try and get a young middle linebacker through the free agency. if they can’t get one maybe they will sign al for a year or two and draft one. speculating sure is fun, ain’t it?
i’m glad he likes the guys on the d-line, i like them too. they will be better next year and a beastman or two being brought in at tackle will really help out.
he really didn’t tell us much , did he?
how much do you think was intentionally misleading to throw off the competition?
what’s your take on the whole press conference mason????????

  26. 07elway says:

That was alot to read but I think it was pretty much well said. I would be so happy if Al Wilson came back… I really think we would benefit greatly with him, his leadership and the way he gets the team excited makes a huge difference. I know that’s what Rod Smith was trying to do and for him its natural to be a leader but when he’s not playing and not on the field with the others its harder for the guys to keep going. If Wilson came back he’d be on the field with his leadership, being able to encourage them as the game goes on. As for Rod Smith having some position with this organization… I say he should coach. There would be no greater person than him… he’d be perfect for our team. I’d be in 7th Heaven if he decided to coach, if he can’t play at least he could coach.

As for Lynch, I really do hope he comes back… I can’t let go of him yet. Watching Smith leave is hard enough, I can’t take watching Lynch go too, not in the same offseason. He is such a HUGE contributor to our D, I honestly can’t picture our defense without him. Come back man, we need you!! The same goes for Elam, his foot was a lifesaver for us and just the thought of any other kicker makes me nervous. I know I could count on Elam – every kicker misses now & then but he’s got one heck of a foot. And for the offense, I think we’re going to be on FIRE next season… Cutler, Marshall & Scheffler – there is no better matchups than these. I hope we can keep Young & Hall too, with time they’ll be so good it’ll be scary (for the other teams).

And there’s no way I would want Jared Allen on this team… he’s a Chief, YUCKY!!!! I can’t stand the Chiefs nor would I want one of their guys over here… plus I don’t think he’d want to just b/c he’s spent his whole career over there like some of our guys and he’d probably be forced to shave that hideous mullet he has. I hope Shanahan stays too, I love that guy he’s a great coach… one more Superbowl ring and then he can go out on top like Elway did, he deserves that much.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  27. jwalkbmarsh says:

Sign Al Wilson before the patriots, raiders or tampa bay does. I hope we’re at least talking with agent while i type this…. it would be hard to #56 on another team.

  28. jwalkbmarsh says:

Sign Al Wilson before the patriots, raiders or bucs do. I hope we’re on the phone with his agent while i type this… it would suck to see #56 in another jersey.

  29. jwalkbmarsh says:

Just look at the fan poll on the home page!!! Mason, pass it on….

  30. bullridinmike27 says:

Manningham is staying for one more year but i would like to see him as a brocno, Rod should coach, We have a great offense, maybe we trade javon for ummm we’ll say a little guy that i think is a little overrated, chad johnson. draft a saftey, and second round get a d tackle.

  31. slimwigg says:

trade walker and henry to miami for #1 and get Mcfadden. Then use the rest of the picks to help our defense……then give manning and brady herpes… we’ll be champs n no Time!!!!!!!!!!

  32. BroncoBoy1993 says:

slimwig you are an idiot. i can see trading henry but not walker. and why do we need mcfadden???? young and hall are amazing. we need a safety. badly.
    BRING BACK WILSON!!!!!!!

  33. Buff_bronc_fan says:

I like the people saying Slowik is a bad hire because he doesn’t have a track record in the league– Well, the last 3 guys in here have been guys with track records in this league (Ray Rhodes, Larry Coyer, now Jim Bates) and none of them seemed to work out- so why does everyone assume that you had to have coached a defense elsewhere to have success in this league?

Furthermore, if you listen to the defensive players, Foxy among them– they wanted Slowik to be the guy last year… They’re just looking for continuity, not having to learn a new system every 2 years.

In conclusion, I’ll take an unproven guy who has the players’ blessing over a proven guy who the players have their doubts about anyday.

  34. slimwigg says:

it was a joke people. Young is good in the open field but was i the only one who saw him stopped in the backfield at Houston. You are retarded if you think he is better than Mcfadden and that is not a hit on young.

  35. bsahatjian says:

Al Wilson is not coming back people, get over it! I hope the Broncos trade down in the draft, because they need lots of help on defense and one player isn’t going to make the defense all of a sudden good. If they do stand pat, I’d like to get Kenny Phillips out of Miami at #12, the guy is a monster that can hit and cover. Lynch has to go, he just doesn’t have it anymore, pretty obvious to see if you’re paying attention.

  36. slimwigg says:

it was a joke people. Young is good in the open field but was i the only one who saw him stopped in the backfield at Houston. You are retarded if you think he is better than Mcfadden and that is not a hit on young. Miami would never do that though

  37. htekid says:

Yes Al was awesome, and of course his loss hurts but you have to remember he was released because of his injury, he injured his neck when gerard hit him late in the year last year, he’s not healthy and coulndn’t pass a physical that is why he’s not on the team. A bad year for the D isn’t going to change his neck is ruined

  38. briansd says:

bring back the leader AL WILSON
I think Slowik might be ok if we have great leaders with our defense players. Henry is a waste of money; we can draft a 4th round running back that would work with Young and Hall or re-due Henry’s contract for less money.

  39. shelbo bronco says:

this is a response to a comment from the Lepsis retirement blog. some jackass said that matts most famous move as a bronco was when he hit terrel davis from the side and hurt his knee, then he went on to say that kartz and studdard and habib were all better. well first of all jackass that was tony jones that hit T.D. from the side not lepsis, and lepsis is one of the best lineman to ever play in denver.

  40. broncomojo says:

PLEASE GO GET AL WILSON!!!!!!!!!!! If Al comes back, then Lynch could come back for one more year and all would be well in Bronco world. I know there are not the youngest but leadership can’t be drafted or signed in FA. Thery are the heart and soul of our TEAM, not just defense. Also we should keep Walker, other teams can’t double-team both of them (Marshall), Plus Stokely is better as a slot reciever anyway. Then we can get younger in the draft while still having our leaders on the feild (at least part of the time) oh yea I can smell a championship!!!!!!

  41. superchop7 says:

We are better on the d-line ???? Ummmm, no.

“If you guys read about yourselves in the paper everyday, you would go beserk” Mike Shannahan

True, had to snicker at that one.

  42. tigervixxxen says:

Why is only part 1 of the presser up?

Anyway, I’d love to see Al back but only in the right situation and if he could play as well again. Remember, he is a free agent so he’s not going to take a back up role when he could start somewhere else. I have no idea how that situation will play out but I have a feeling it won’t be here unfortunately.

I’d say Henry is out unless he agrees to restructure his deal or the Broncos can get a really good free agent to come in. I like Hall and Young but we need someone who can get 3rd and 1, 3rd and 3, and punch it in on the goal line. I don’t think either of them are up to that level yet.

I’d guess Walker comes back. Its going to cost too much money to cut him and the Broncos will keep him unless they get a decent trade offer. Hopefully he will calm down and be willing to restructure.

I’m not upset they kept Slowik, they players really like and respect him. I know thats not the be all end all of a good defensive coach but its a good start. Remember, he coached the secondary this season and that clearly wasn’t the area of issue this season.

I agree that poor drafts from 2003 and 2004 have caught up with the Broncos. But 2005 was decent, 2006 was fantastic and 2007 looks to be decent as well so the fruits of that should blossom the next few years. So its a bit unfair to crucify Shanahan for those bad drafts when he clearly got better recently.

I wish there had been more talk about the direction they want to go in the draft and free agency. But I guess its too early for them to know that or to reveal it publicly.

Andrew, can you tell us when typically does the next presser occur? Anytime before free agency or will we have to wait a few months to get some fresh info?

I just want to see more than 2 free agents and 2 draft picks make a significant difference next year. It’s been too long since we hit on both! GET A NOSE TACKLE!!!

  44. West Coast says:

How does Shanny think we were better on the D-line? What is he smokin? Our Dline was a joke. That’s why we sucked so bad. Maybe next year

  45. superchop7 says:

After seeing part 2, Shanny realizes the jump between year 1 and year 2, (for a young d-line) so therefore, he is right, we are definately better off than we have been in the past.

    But this year….ummm no.

    Frank Okam solves all.

i think they should try to get al wilson back but work with dj williams and ian gold cuz there both still good and git ride of javon walker cuz he is just bein ghey and the got brandon marshall and brandon stokley who are both good… and then try to work on getting better deffensive tackles and offensive linemen or safteys just incase john lynch retires

  47. hrdnokd says:

He’s a big hoss too. We’ll all have a better idea after we see these guys 200 times over the next 3 months. It amuses me, however, that the majority of Broncomaniacs agree that a nose tackle is the number one priority for the team. Safeties are nice when there’s a ‘can’t miss’ prospect such as Taylor or Reed, but not every Miami safety is a stud. The LB’s this year aren’t that great and don’t EVEN bring up the kid from Ohio State. He’s still trying to figure out what LSU’s offense was doing.

  48. superchop7 says:

Do not post drunk or stupid.

  49. imready says:

i like the path the broncos are on now. a youth movement is now rolling down bronco lane. i don’t see bringing in any old guy free agents like the last couple of years is the right thing to do. an attempt at instant gratification is what has gotten the broncos where they were this year and i’d like to see most of the recent “bandaid ” players go down the road. be patient, save the money to keep the talented younger players here. older players that bleed orange and blue we need also, they need to show our new heros how to be a bronco, be it playing or coaching. you watch, this youth movement will get us to a superbowl in a few years with health young players giving us another long run of winning bronco football. go broncos!

Yea, get Wilson back because i heard on NFL Network that he was cleared to play before hearin Shanny’s press confrence. He was huge for us then and he will be huge for us now. Also, Walker was only ranting out of frustration? If he was then yea he should come back. You guys know you still like Walker so stop acting like we dont need him. He will be great for us and we can put Stokley where he played at most of his career:In the slot. Is rod done? I hope not, i have been a long way from Denver news. Couldnt get access to a computer. But we will prevail next year count on it fellow Broncos Fans
