Light Work Before Practice for Walker

November 14th, 2007 - 4:08pm by Andrew

Javon Walker

Javon Walker wasn’t in uniform, and he wasn’t going through the paces of practice with his teammates. But his presence in pre-practice warmups — limited as he was to lightly running routes and catching passes — nevertheless provided the first tangible, public evidence of his recovery from the knee surgery he underwent on Oct. 19 in Houston.

“It felt good just to run around and catch some balls,” Walker said. “Every day will be just another step to being game-ready.”

That, however, might be a little while in coming. Head Coach Mike Shanahan acknowledged Monday that it was “probably a long shot” for Walker to return by Monday night.

However, the first post-practice injury report of the week — which was issued late Wednesday afternoon — did not list Walker as “out,” as had been the case for the injury reports issued since the procedure on his knee.

“I’m just kind of taking the time to see what the coaches and trainers want me to do,” Walker said. “They just don’t want anything to be another setback, so they’re going to kind of monitor it, and hopefully whenever they feel comfortable for me to get out there and start practicing, that’s what I’m going to go ahead and do.”

Walker acknowledged that his right knee was sore, but said that wasn’t anything unusual.

“Obviously, you’re going to have a little soreness, but that’s just because any time you cut on human flesh, it’s going to be sore,” he said, “but it’s nothing that’s going to be harmful to my body later on. It’s just letting my body heal and going from there.

“Right now, it’s just taking it day-to-day,” he added. “Before, I knew how long I was going to be out. Now it’s just waiting to see whenever they think the situation is right as far as being ready to go.”

OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE …

Running back Travis Henry remained sidelined with a knee injury and was not in uniform for practice. He underwent an MRI examination on the knee and the results were “good,” Shanahan said, adding, “I’m hoping that he practices (Thursday).” …

… Henry was joined by fullback Paul Smith (calf) and defensive tackle Sam Adams, who has always been held out of the Wednesday practice this year …

… Safety John Lynch made it through the full practice session after missing Sunday’s game because of the lingering effects of the neck stinger he incurred on Oct. 29 against Green Bay. “We hit (Thursday) so we’ll see where he’s at (then),” Shanahan said, “but he said he’s ready to go and hopefully there’s no setback when he does hit.” …

… Defensive end John Engelberger (shoulder), tight end Tony Scheffler (chest) and kicker Jason Elam (calf) also made it through the day’s work …

… Defensive tackle Antwon Burton wasn’t away from Dove Valley long; he went unclaimed after being waived Tuesday and was re-signed to the practice squad, replacing Greg Eslinger, who was signed by the Cleveland Browns from the Broncos’ practice squad on Wednesday morning.

we need j walk back asap. i got $ on broncos making playoffs

  10. Mile Hi Maniac says:

Marshall has been carrying the load, plus scheffler has contributed, but the sooner javon is back the better, Cutler will then be able to better utilize his slot receiver as well.

  11. oc60 says:

I think they should bring Javon back now and use him as a decoy to help open up the offense. It’s amazing that most teams have two cb’s on Marshall and he’s still making catches. With Walker in Cutler will be the benefactor and easier throws. Go Broncos MNF

    He is FANTASTIC!
Jake should open a barber shop & Shanny’s a genius!
Please forgive me for all my foolish comments?
    Thank you

Finally LPP comes to her senses!
Oh… Sure wish Javon could come back now.
But… Coach won’t risk losing him again… right coach?
    Go Broncos

PS: Thank You for that great win in Arrowhead!!

  15. LetPlummerPlay says:

That was not me. Jake shouldn’t open a barber shop, other than that the imposter got everything right.

  16. ballin bronco says:

I think its good to rest Jevon because we are in the stretch run and we are going to need everyone healthy to try to make the playoffs

  17. GBFAN says:

THE PACK IS GOING ALL THE WAY!!

  18. vegasbronco says:

I know this has been explained before, but what is the point at which a player is not eligible for the practice squad? I’m surprised Burton is still eligible.

  19. vegasbronco says:

  30. elway07 says:

Ok, there’s a problem on here… just got on here and realized someone said something I would never say. The previous “elway07″ was not me. Hope this little problem gets fixed ASAP

Anyway, hope Walker can come back soon… would give Cutler another person to throw to and plus Walker is just too good. Can’t wait for Monday Night… all I can say is we better win this time, I’m sick & tired of losing every other game or so. I can’t take another loss, I just got my bragging rights back and I get the privilege of holding the win in Arrowhead over every Chiefs fan I come across. I’m not ready to give up those bragging right… its kinda fun and I’m enjoying too much to let it go.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. broncomania48 says:

  34. your momma says:

andrew please comment and tell me wat happened 2 mike bell???? He was running VERY good last year
    PLEASE ANSWER!!!

  35. iwannameetrod says:

lets start by saying Cutler has progressed nicely and you have to admit none of us knew what we were getting in the Vandy rookie, and all though Plummer was off his game near the end…He brought us to the playoffs every year and had one hell of winning record with us.. so we asked for cutler and we got him great arm, great mobility, great though process but it will take awhile and look around him, selvin, sheffler, walker, marshall, grahm, damn it looks like elway, maccaffery, smith, davis and sharp, we can do this, we can. have faith and a little time, it will come around to us again, maybe this season maybe not but i will always be a believer and broncobacker, go denver!!!

  36. vegasbroncoboy says:

what did happen to bell, he is explosive i like him and young, henry was the talent but i guess he is going to be out for a while, i though they were going to move bell to fullback after he recovered from his concussion?

  37. westcoast says:

I am confused. Is LPP a girl or guy beacuse I keep making cracks about his women. Somebody please clear this up. I might have to come up with new material.

  38. watchtheboard says:

I think the Broncos ahve quite a few problems but quite a few things that are going to be working in their favor this second half of the season…. I am a HUGE fan of the Broncos…all the way on the east coast of Virginia and I watch EVERY SINGLE GAME. I also read the board daily and I am amused by many of things that are said. LPP is an idiot, but I do respect his right to love Jake. I do think that he makes comments on the board just so other posters will get angry therefore he wins. Moving on, the Broncos have a talented young group and the season is in no way over, but I do think that although they played better against the Chefs, (intentional) that is not a good team and we SHOULD blow them out. Say what you want but they had no LJ and their QB situation is a farce. Bowe destroyed Bly most of the game, and Priest ran well for a man starting for the first time in years. But, they did win the game and that is what matters. This week is an unique test because the Broncos weakness all year has been RUN DEFENSE. TN, is a team that will RUN until the wheels fall off, not only from the running back position, but from the QB. The key for this game is actually going to be the OFFENSIVE execution. If we are able to get a lead and force the other team into passing situations, where the Madden cover boy is shaky, we have a better chance of winning. I do think we can win, but it is goig to be a MONDAY NIGHT FIGHT.

Sidenote-I agree that Bates sucks, I do think that Shanny has lost soe of his edge. DOes anyone else notice that we have gone away from the bootleg that was so successful. It not only helped the passing game, it helped the run (DE’s could not crash down creating a lane ). Also, is it just me or has Shanny become predictable on offense in his play calling. Kubiak, was more integral than a lot of people thought. Travis is good runner and should be starter. Young is a GREAT change of pace back. Honestly, He is another Tatum Bell. Speed guy. He does run backwards a lot, and some fool said he is averaging like ten yards a run, so untrue. He does get you a good ten to twenty yard run because of his speed and elusiveness, but he has not demonstrated the ability to get the short yardage play, that Henry has using the stiff arm. Cutler haters, what are you guys watching, this kid is the truth. Remember he is not even a season in yet and he has put up better numbers than a lot of vets AND everyone in his draft class. Well I have ranted enough. Love your work Mason. Broncos go 10-6 win the division and defeat New England to get to the AFC Championship game against THE STEELERS. WAIT on IT

  39. clutch734 says:

Can’t wait to have Walker back…i think we can beat the Titans without him and I rathter they rest him one more week….
    2 in a row broncos!!

  40. bronco_hyde says:

    Andrew,

With Lynch healthy again, what are the chances we will see a starting duo of Lynch and Abdullah?? Nothing against Fergy, but Abdullah has star written all over him. He’s much better in coverage, and he just gets to the ball.

  41. KoobLis says:

I don’t know about Lynch guys, he’s a good leader but Foxy has played well when given the chance to play at safety. We’ll see what happens… As for Travis Henry, he’s good but Selvin is showing something that Henry isn’t showing and that is maturity along with game play.

  42. vegasbronco says:

What is all this flimflam with using other people’s names on here?

  43. vegasbronco says:

    i dont know good question

  44. vegasbronco says:

The Broncos, showed a great stride in their defense against KC. Even though they are last in the league against the run, how do you think they will fair agains V. Young?

  45. RealisticFan says:

The D has to step up. It all comes down to the front four. No pressure=loss: it’s that easy. We have the best dbacks in the game that includes Hamza Abdullah (he can cover lot’s of ground) Domo and to some extent Karl Paymah. DJ Williams is only getting better in the middle- Al’s shoes are not easy to fill. On offense stick with Selvin but put in Travis on 3rd and short. Cutler is unquestionably the best out of the 06 class and will be better than Elway. I love John, but yes I said it. Man do we ever miss Nalen. We need Javon back, but Brandon Marshall is a horse- he is the future of Broncos receivers. Brandon Stokley is the best route runner in the game.
I hate to say it, but unless this team starts playing 40% better, I don’t want to make the platoffs. Do we want to barely make it there just to get blown out like in the 80′s? There are some powerhouse teams out there that we can beat, but not at our current level of play. I bleed blue and orange, but I was on suicide watch after all of those Super Bowl losses.
